Earth Bet: House of the Sun (Cultist Simulator/Worm)

[X] Plan: Kill the enemy and make friends
-[X] On work and the challenges it entails.
--[X] You'll cut a few corners here, leave a bit early (Gain an extra action, will not be noticed if not done often)
-[X] On Rites, Rituals and the things inbetween
---[X] You'll cast The Attention of the Laws (EDGE)
-[X] On furthering the cause.
--[X] Search out the talented, teach them Edge
-[X] On matters outside the cult.
--[X] Spend time with somebody
---[X] Invite William to help develop and rehearse new battle tactics that utilize his power.
-[X] On your Foe, and the danger she wields
--[X] Tail her, keep an eye on what she does (Doing this yourself will be less effective then sending somebody else)
-[X] On your Foe, and the danger she wields
--[X] Attack her, finish this (This is Assaulting an Opponent Expedition)
---[X] Take the Combatants with you
-[X] On your Foe, and the danger she wields

---[X] Take the Combatants with you

A reminder that we already have info on an Endbringer weakness: chronomantic attacks. So we don't need to keep digging right now. Instead, we should build up our Socials some more. Like Anatoly, who is clearly suffering right now, and Ai, because she has been super helpful to us.
If the information received had been enough, we would not have received a separate warning about this.
You have 2 months until the cult reconvenes, it would be a very good idea for you to have gained at least some understanding of Endbringer durability and some form of combatants are ready.

Technically studying manuscripts is also a guaranteed success, that's the whole point of the Cult Library.
No, we study books in the cult library, which means we need to pass a test against DC 50 to get a piece of knowledge.
Reading a book
-You roll against a DC of 50, using Learning and Lantern gaining a scrap of Lore on a success
-The book will not be destroyed on a failure, you have merely failed to learn from it

In that case, for the plans that are picking both attack her and tail her, attacking her twice would probably be a better choice. Why waste time tailing her when if she's gone that won't matter, and attacking twice makes it twice as likely to get rid of her?

Also, while I am advocating to attack her, I've begun to worry that she's set up a deadman's switch that will smear our reputation if she dies after our fight. That would get us investigated, and probably ruin our chances of a promotion.

Changed the plan.

Unfortunately, we cannot find out this, so it is better to kill her now while there is hope that she did not have time to develop and implement a plan.

the book/manuscript thing is a sorta balancing thing as I understand it. We either try to read the book now and put our dubious scholastic ability to the test, or we wait for Arch to finish reading it and write up an understandable manuscript. I'm sure in the future we'll see availability issues, such as Arch not really wanting to study Edge or Knock books on a particular month, that might drive us to make the attempt ourselves.

And of course, high-level books may give little traits, not to mention all of the literary lore entries we wouldn't get to experience.

[X] Plan: Steady Development

Not a huge fan of learning Lantern, not our circus not our monkeys, and more than that our closest ally is currently a lantern expert.

Befriending the other inner circle members is a must though.

But we're the one who's got to go mucking around in PRT files. We're the only one with the proper security credentials. Research and investigation is literally our job until the scary Wolf-Name says otherwise.

That's also kind of why I'd rather read a manuscript than ask her for training honestly, there's no good way to tell her we've been sitting on Lantern-0 this whole time while theoretically trying to uncover a secret.

[X] Plan: Steady Development SH Edition
-[X] On work and the challenges it entails.
--[X] You'll work your hours and no more (Gain no extra actions, default)
-[X] On your Foe, and the danger she wields
--[X] Attack her, finish this (This is Assaulting an Opponent Expedition)
---[X] Take the combatants trained in Edge with us.
-[X] On furthering the cause.
--[X] Search out the talented, teach them Edge
--[X] Assist somebody else in their task (Ai Hayashi)
-[X] On learning the Lores.
--[X] You Master is willing to teach, request a lesson
---[X] The manuscript on Secret Histories (You will gain 1 scrap of Secret Histories)
-[X] On Rites, Rituals and the things inbetween
--[X] You'll cast The Attention of the Laws (EDGE)

Pretty much the Steady Development plan but Secret Histories instead of lantern to improve our odds of finding alicja in the expedition and using a manuscript instead of asking the Master.

[X] Plan: Steady Development

We're doing research we need lantern.

There's no functional reason not to swap the lesson with the Master for the manuscript, and we wouldn't have to answer awkward questions. I really do like the plan otherwise, since Lantern might well help with tracking our Foe as well. Say @OatmealOatmeal, thoughts on swapping The Master for the Manuscript, since Wither clarified on books/manuscripts?

I honestly don't wank to bother making a whole other plan for the sake of a minor quibble...

I would like a higher level of Secret Histories in the future but we can only develop so many lores without overextending. Either Knock or Lantern will be needed to advance further in the Mansus anyways, whereas if you are just searching for targets that could probably be substituted with a Secret Histories artifact.

As for swapping the master to manuscripts, I will do that. It's probably better to learn from manuscripts anyways, as learning from the master seems to incur some narrative cost, even if minor.

There is the immediate future to consider as well. Lantern has no benefit to us this turn as we are not doing endbringer research. We could improve lantern next turn and there will be no difference to our rolls compared to doing it now because beneficial/non risky actions occur first in the turn. Secret Histories is used to find alicja in the assault expedition this turn and if we fail that roll we both waste an action and give her more of a chance to hinder us.

On the other hand we're off to talk to Ai, and Lantern is probably necessary for seeing through whatever Moth-flavored friendship quest she's got for us.

[X] Plan Friends and Obligations

-[X] On furthering the cause.
--[X] Search out the talented, teach them Edge

---[X] The manuscript on Secret Histories (You will gain 1 scrap of Secret Histories)
-[X] On matters outside the cult.
--[X] Spend time with somebody
---[X] Anatoly

Every update he shows up in Anatoly is looking more haunted and distant. I am pretty sure his constant close proximity to the Master is giving the poor man Dread, and so I really want to check in on him outside of cult business. It's the least we can do for him getting us into the know regarding the occult. Ai has been great and I want to see more of her. I've opted to learn a crumb of SH because we'll in all likelihood be looking for our Enemy a lot in the near future and, well, an SH of 0 is rather bad for that. I am willing to swap aiding Ai with assaulting our foe if need be, I'm just really worried about Anatoly.
