Earth Bet: House of the Sun (Cultist Simulator/Worm)

Welp, despite our best efforts the Corrivalry ignites. The Lionsmith is ascendant and The Colonel dismisses our efforts.

Aiet.

(@Witherbrine26, did these rolls account for the Weapon-artifact we were carrying? Edge 3 probably wouldn't save us since a tool can't give us a Realization, but it might have caused some wounds.)

Edit:
They bloody well better be, last time was like watching a UFC champ lose a brawl with an amateur boxer. Admittedly a very skilled amateur, but still a comparative amateur. This time we're the one with the exotic ammunition.

The rolls were not, in fact, good.

Combat is an Application Bonus, and having a higher level artifact apparently doesn't boost those.

Okay, now I say we take a couple of turns setting up a trap to lure her in since taking the fight to her is clearly not working. If Michael needs to increase his debts to the other inner circle members to finish this woman off, then so be it. Maybe Arch can send a Hint after her or something.

*grumbles in saltiness* I'll tell you, my first thought was that we should've just fought to the death, so we could either put this behind us or start over again. We even lost one ally, and now she may know about the cult. This is a mess.

In hindsight we really ought've let the Master deal with this clown-show, all the combat preparation and stats in the world don't matter if neither you nor your allies can roll double digits and your enemy crits.

I think the bigger problem here was that we were outnumbered. I think if we could match her in numbers, we would have a good shot. If we can outnumber her, I think her demise is highly probable. Regardless, I think we need to build up our forces more before assaulting her again. Although, she does know where we live, and if she ambushes us with a 4v1, it might be quest over.

I still believe that our choice at the time was right. I expected that we lose, but not that it would be this bad.

"Caught me just as I was about to kill ya."

She is planning to assault us this turn as well, so maybe we'll still get to kill her — fingers crossed.

The outnumbering only cancelled out our Edge influence, even then we still had a +48 to combat compared to their combined +43, furthermore our minions each had +14 compared to hers only having +9. We had a pretty solid shot even with the extra enemy but despite all of this we only managed to inflict one wound on one of her minions, and our ally managed to trip over his own feet and get captured.

Oh wait, I forgot he's in a Winter cult. Just have Michael beg on hands and knees (aka irrevocably deepening his debt) for the master to summon a Maid-in-the-Mirror and let it slaughter Alicja. I doubt tinker bullets will work on spirits.

I suggest we use someone else's hands.
First, we immediately inform the master that one of the henchmen has been captured and take the punishment upon ourselves. Since the safety of the cult is at stake here, it is better to let the master act ahead of the curve before the enemy gets everything out of the cultist about our cult.
Secondly, we pay back the debt to Ai and establish a larger cooperation with it. With her help, we find out what compromising materials Alicja has on us and destroy them. After that, we help the police to follow Alicja in order to deprive her of the remaining money and prevent her from preparing. When she gets exhausted or makes a mistake, that's when we strike.
Seems like a pretty good plan to me. But for its successful implementation, we need a lot of grail and moth, so I also suggest going on an expedition to the well at the first opportunity.

Honestly we should just build up allies, set up some nice traps for home defense, and go up the Mansus to find some rituals. Like The End is Beautiful.

Wow. That's the first nat-100 of the quest, right? Lord. At least we're not dead.

We had the choice to go to the Master to solve this, a choice we should've taken, and we didn't.

I'm not sure we can have them solve it now.

It's kinda funny how bad our guy is at the one thing he was designed to do. EDGE combat. Yet he jobs every time, and we can't be straightforward. (Yes, I'm a little salty).

That is because of the "made for it, but can't do it" effect, where something(or in this case someone) is created with a specific purpose in mind but constantly fails at fulfilling it. Should have gone for the Velvet Covers build(trained in everything but combat) it would have confused the Histories so much the rolls would have been mostly good.

Or that is just the dice saying we have a Dyad and we shouldn't kill her(OR ELSE).

Planning is just more dice rolls.

Won't change much assuming she continues to get this lucky.

There's nothing you can do about dice rolls. Luck isn't real, and just because she has rolled high in the two encounters we had does not mean she will roll high on the third encounter. The only thing we can do is try to increase our bonuses, and attack her again. The more dice rolling we do, the more the average of all those dice rolls will approach 50, at which point bonuses will be the deciding factor.

I do kinda like that we're in a corrivality now, at least. That's pretty fun.

I also think we should do Mansus climbing and get stronger rather than tossing ourselves at her again and again!

Find a ritual, or a summon… our advantage is the eldritch side of things, we should leverage that!

I find it darkly humorous that you guys probably chose Winter because it and SH are the mildest Lores and yet got the fucking Wolf Name that became so due to suicide.

Also, the fact Shaper isn't here extolling the virtues of every morally…questionable action is strange.

Another History: Turn 8
Breathing hurt. Every inhale felt like someone was stabbing you in the chest, but there was nothing you could do about it. It was a fact you had to accept, as frustrating as it was. Your body was on the mend, but it would take time to fully heal—time you didn't have. You knew Alicja wouldn't let you recover in peace. She was smart enough to seize the advantage while you were still licking your wounds, and you needed to be ready for that.

"Here you go, sir," the nurse said as she handed you a clipboard with a discharge form. Her voice was soft but professional, and the sympathy in her eyes was barely masked. You took the clipboard, looking down at the paperwork with a frown. Your hand moved slowly, the pain in your chest flaring with every slight movement, but you managed to start filling out the form.

The doctors wanted to keep you here for observation. They had patched you up well enough, but they were concerned about complications—internal bleeding, infection, any number of things that could still go wrong. But you knew your body. You'd been through worse and walked away from it. Gunshot wounds, stabbings, all kinds of trauma that should have put you down for good, yet here you were. You healed fast. You always had. And while these new scars would be a nuisance, they wouldn't stop you.

Your pen scratched the paper as you signed your name at the bottom. The nurse looked at it for a moment, her eyes flicking between you and the clipboard. She clearly wasn't happy with your decision to leave. But there was nothing she could do. You hadn't committed any crimes, and nobody was coming to arrest you. Your wounds weren't enough to keep you trapped here, so you handed the clipboard back and made your choice.

The nurse pursed her lips but said nothing, simply taking the form and walking away, leaving you to your thoughts. You weren't walking too well yet. Your legs felt like they could give out at any moment, which only deepened the frustration gnawing at you. That's where Ai came in. She had been waiting outside, and the second the nurse left, she appeared in the doorway, her eyes sweeping over you, assessing the damage.

Her expression didn't shift. No disgust, no pity, just a calm, quiet observation. Even with your wounds stitched up and bandaged, you knew you looked like hell. Still, there wasn't even a flicker of revulsion on her face.

"I'm fine," you snapped, seeing her start to move as if to help you. With a grimace, you pushed yourself up out of the bed, ignoring the stabbing pain in your ribs. It was a struggle, but you managed to get yourself into the wheelchair without her help, though it was a close thing. Ai, ever patient, just stood by, waiting, not saying a word.

Once you were seated in the chair, she stepped behind you and took hold of the handles, wheeling you out of the room slowly and steadily. Her hands were gentle like she knew exactly how to push this wheelchair and how not to harm you. It was infuriating in its own way.

You hated that she had come to help you. The whole thing grated on you, even if you couldn't put it into words. You were used to handling things on your own, even when you were hurt. Having someone swoop in when you were down felt wrong, as if it was undermining your ability to stand on your own two feet. The fact that it was Ai only made it worse. You trusted her, sure, but there was always the nagging thought in the back of your mind that she might hold this over you later. Yet, she hadn't made any indication of that. Not a single word of leverage or manipulation. It seemed like she was just… helping.

"You don't owe me anything," she murmured as she leaned down close to your ear, her breath warm against your skin. "I simply wished to help."

Her words, soft and sincere, only made you grumble in irritation. You shifted in the wheelchair, trying to alleviate the ache in your body, but it just triggered another wave of pain. You weren't in a position to argue, not right now, but that didn't make it any easier to accept the situation. You had too much to do, and your injuries were already putting you behind schedule.

There were battles to fight, plans to make, and with Alicja likely regrouping and plotting her next move, you knew you couldn't afford to rest. Every hour you spent recovering was an hour closer to her launching a counterattack. And right now, you needed to be three steps ahead of her. But first, you had to get out of this damned hospital and back to work. Even if your body wasn't quite ready, your mind was already preparing for this month.
