One thing I'd like to note: I suspect it will be fundamentally impossible to hide Animus connecting to the Secrets. Whenever that connection goes live the entire galaxy is going to shudder.

We may be able to hide where it came from, but that would likely make the frenzy it sends the shiplords into even worse.

Think of it as plugging a keyboard into a sleeping computer - even without any keystrokes most computers go into standby. If the secrets do the same and Animus can't override is faster than it propagates the entire galaxy is going to notice something, even if only the shiplords will be able to realize exactly where it's coming from. Which is going to get quite the response.

So we want to plug Animus in only after we have everything we think we could need ready. Because there is a very good chance that act will end our time acting in secret.

Fortunately that's also a win condition if the infrastructure is at all intact on the secret end, since Animus literally changing how the rules work in front of them would be an… ample… demonstration that we have found a (vastly) better answer. But we'll want to be ready in case Animus connects and the back end is toast.

[X] Animus Data - Dedicate a solid section of your time to Animus' technical files. The nature of their existence, their Telaxion, and also how any of this might be able to help Iris evolve. Maybe you can get an answer on what they mean when they call your daughter a 'sapling'.

[X] Visions and Order - There are two points of interest remaining among the research that was still ongoing when you woke Animus. Understanding the nature of the not!Practice suffusing this world, and finding out who, or what, is waiting at that starlit cathedral where Tahkel met you months before.

  • Current disposition of the FSN's FTL components, gathering for a strike on one of the outer rim naval bases - PoV Lina Sharpe
  • 'Neath perfect veils, answers we seek - PoV Eyes the Sun (Shiplord Central Intelligence)
  • Between the stars we seek - PoV Alternate Nutrient Source Advised (Neras Starhome)
These are the PoVs I would like to see, myself. We see so little of the Neras, the one polity the Shiplords consider peers. Why do the Shiplords consider them peers?

Why do the Shiplords consider them peers?
Well, we have some idea of that: they are just as old, having existed prior to the secrets.

The stranger question is what the heck are they still doing around? Only the Shiplords and Neras from the pre-secret era remain. We know the reason the shiplords persist. But why do the neras?

I am genuinely curious about the thoughts of the Citadel Council Shiplord Central Intelligence to this latest mess. Might also give us a hint as to the current status of our captured dude. Though even the implications of that are likely to be a horror show, considering what they tend to do to people in their shadow wars, nevermind their active wars.

Ooh the CIA, definitely going for the shiplords central Intelligence sidestory.

"Difficult to manage, at least," you countered, thinking of Kicha. "We've made a few friends among the Shiplords. It would just be rather difficult to get either of them here."

"A task made even more difficult by the current state of affairs," Animus nodded again, considering. "I could access the functions of the local interstellar array without difficulty, but transmitting through it isn't something that I could hide from the Shiplord sentries. A last resort, perhaps. My files lead me to believe that a properly planned effort could succeed in convincing my senior that you are here to help."
The shipteens shall be the key to subverting/controlling the defenses once they arrive, and that's hilarious

EDIT: And oh boy,
"The connection profile you've built is rudimentary by the standards of our own infrastructure," Animus replied. If not for their tone, it could have been insulting. "But it is entirely functional for the purposes of a real-time link. And I, I must confess, would be fascinated to observe any attempts on your part to repair the copy you've extracted.

"From my own understanding, that should hardly be possible." The holo bobbed again, twisting in a way that somehow felt amused. "But that would also have been my understanding of any attempt to restore my core matrix."
apparently even the Consolat would have considered Practice to be bullshit.

Which leads to the question of what the absolute fuck did the dragons actually DO?

These are the priorities right now. As for the sidestory? Shipteens, Shiplord Central Intelligence, Neras and Nileans read the most interesting right now.

Okay, so the vote for the turn is...

Going to go with these. As for the Sidestories? I'm most interested in the following:
  • Can young minds only watch, when ancients stir - PoV Shipteens
  • Warden once meant something. Today, we shall remind our people that we do not bend - PoV Kicha, Entara (Gysian survivor)
  • 'Neath perfect veils, answers we seek - PoV Eyes the Sun (Shiplord Central Intelligence)
  • Between the stars we seek - PoV Alternate Nutrient Source Advised (Neras Starhome)
  • Whispers on the road to freedom - PoV Kendl Merizan, Strand of Enigma, Nilean Community
... Damn. Thought I could narrow it down more.

Okay, so analysing these, it feels like my opinion is the following: I believe we need to cover the Neras soon but I just... Don't know how soon 'soon' needs to be as we know so little about them. How critical is whatever the Neras are doing? What shall it do? When do we need to know what they're doing by?

It's simultaneously the lowest and the highest priority of my narrowed down choices because it's a great big ???? for what it means.

Of the other choices? I believe I give highest Priority to Shipteens and Warden. Shipteens over Warden, but that requires the Shipteens have either advanced far enough, or been effected by other events enough, to make it worthwhile. Warden however is definitely one of the top priorities no matter what as it's about time we learn what's happening there.

This just leaves Central Intelligence and Kendl and for them... I really want to find out what the 'hostile' Shiplords are doing about... Everything and Central Intelligence is our insight there. Meanwhile I have loved Kendl's story in this setting so far and I am really curious how everyone is reacting to all the nonsense and hope Humanity has just brought to their living rooms, having somehow bypassed the front door and doorbell, let alone the street they should have travelled down.

I hope this makes things clearer? Even if it doesn't help me winnow down the options.

These, I believe, are the actions I wish to pursue. In order.
1) The foundation of many as research to come
2) The understanding of Practice and related topics in general
3) and finally, the understanding of the specific instance of Practice user that is notably unusual, with the foundational knowledge we acquired from the second action, if it's applicable.

As for side stories, my top picks are basically, aliens who aren't Shiplords.
Between the stars we seek - PoV Alternate Nutrient Source Advised (Neras Starhome)

Whispers on the road to freedom - PoV Kendl Merizan, Strand of Enigma, Nilean Community

Then flaring radiance behind her eyes faded, shuttering to a gentle spark as she turned to Kalilah and spoke.

We've been building tall the last few turns, but I think we need to shore up the fundamentals before we go and tackle the secret of the Secrets and what relates to them.

The Guardians are also important, but I have a suspicion that other options for that may open up in the near future.

Completely unrelated, but a Shipteens POV could be interesting. Though I'm also interested in Kicha or the Neras.

Out of curiosity, though your part in voting is likely an answer in itself, did this feel better as a way of handling 'turn' votes?

The question is open to the rest of the thread here, too. It certainly seems to have been better received.

It did make it feel more accessible, and I was less anxious about just picking things and posting.

I really want to see what's the Neras think of what's happening — Between the stars we seek - PoV Alternate Nutrient Source Advised (Neras Starhome)

[X] Guardian Code
[X] The Nature of Souls
[X] Practice Secrets

As for sidestory...
Warden once meant something. Today, we shall remind our people that we do not bend
'Neath perfect veils, answers we seek
Whispers on the road to freedom

The Shiplords' Intelligence people must be in a hilarious state of crogglement right now. Well, funny to humanity, anyway. And I like Kendl as a character, I'm always down for more Kendl.

I like the voting! Definitely more user friendly.

Whilst part of me really doesn't want to mention this, I feel like I should give just a small reminder.

You've seen the name Eyes the Sun twice before.
