Finding the Spark (Pathfinder 1E Quest)

This is hard to plan out because it's very position-dependant, but I wonder if we can make it walk away from Sirim, past Cob, so Cob can get an AoO sneak attack.

And with a crit bluff on that taunt, I'm fairly confident that the undead ogre is likely to still go after Sirim. Which might mean that Cob gets another AoO.

Edit: Apart from the sudden raising of the Ogre, Goldfish's stun/debuff plan looks to be working quite well indeed.

You can try that yeah, the positions work out.

bites off his head whole before spitting it out in disgust
Condition still serviceable? Asking for friend Gorok.

If only the shadow demon would leave one too. Speaking of, I think it's the most dangerous opponent on the field? Should probably do something about it and the Ogre Priest then. Sirim and Sylestrix can keep the Thing busy.

Do we know people's positions in initiative? I ask because I'd like people to be allowed to make multiple AoOs. Well, from Kori at least.

Here's my thinking.
Kori readies a Boneshaker on the Ogre
The undead ogre moves towards Sirim, and takes AoO from Kori and Sylestrix.

Kori then cast Bonehsaker as an intimidate action after it takes those hits, and forces it to walk its full movement so it takes more AoOs from Kori and Cob, and the ogre ends its movement so Cob is not in its, and also positioned so that to go after Sirim, it has to go past CoB again. (I'm really banking on that nat 20 bluff holding its focus)

Keep in mind, without specific feats you can only make one AoO per turn.

Also, little Syl shows all the wisdom and restraint typical for dragons.

Challenging an evil god right to his face while surrounded by his minions?
Sure, why not, he can only try to smite me, looking all the more stupid when it fails.

See the thing is dragons cannot imagine anything more grand and magnificent than an elder dragons and elder dragons are defined as 'those dragons who have survived in spite of all the stupid risks they took', so obviously taking stupid risks is how you become great. :V

I thought mainly those that avoided stupid risks became ancient and powerful?

Very few dragons reach old age, proportional to the number of Wyrmlings hatched.

Dragons take fewer risks as they age from a combination of fewer things being able to pose a threat to them and sleeping more, but all young dragons have the touch of their divine mother about them, greed beyond the dreams of mortals for wealth, for power, for fame, even for honor and righteous victory, if they were content to sleep away the years until power was delivered to them they would be unworthy of being children of Tiamat. If they did not learn from the trials of youth they would be unworthy of being children of Bahamut/Apsu.

This is a pretty serious Ogre war party, not just some opportunistic assholes. The boss, whatever it was before becoming Undead, was at least equivalent to a CR 10 Ogre Destroyer. Probably was an Ogre Destroyer, based on what I can see of his HP and saves, and the apparent favor of an Ogre god.

It's a good thing we didn't just send a warning to Sylestrix.

From the look of things, Mina comes before the Shadow Demon in the Initiative order, so she's back on Daylight duty. Her keeping that up is the most important thing she can do while the Ogres are being dealt with. Daylight renders the Demon powerless and forces it to flee and/or use its Deeper Darkness SLA, which keeps it occupied.

Beyond keeping the Shadow Demon locked down, the most important thing is to take the Undead Ogre down. I have no idea what it is now, but in life it was probably an Antipaladin. That means it has Smite Good, and Mina is the only target it can use that ability on (this is why I don't want to send it toward Sirim, @BeepSmile, because he and Mina are bunkered down in the Magic Circle).

I don't know if Gorok can handle the Undead Ogre in combat for very long, but hopefully it won't be too bad. Gorok is well buffed right now, and if forced to move, the Ogre will at best only be able to make a single attack against Gorok this round. If it succeeds against Kori's spell, I expect Sylestrix will destroy it for good, but it would be better if Gorok keeps it occupied so she can whittle down the number of lesser Ogres.

Right now we have one Fascinated Ogre who should be out of action for another 4 or 5 rounds, two that are Stunned for 1 or 2 more round, and two that are Blind for 2 rounds. Hopefully Sirim's next spell will take another one out of action for a bit and Cob will finish off the one he is fighting. The Blinded Priest has the Fire Elemental attacking it and only about 2/3 HP left, so it is occupied, probably fatally. If the Undead Ogre goes for Gorok and Sylestrix is able to focus on a different Ogre, that mostly keeps them all occupied or otherwise indisposed, except for one.

-[X] Mina recasts Daylight. She then uses her Slumber Hex on the nearest Ogre she sees which is not already under some other CC effect, unless she needs to cast Daylight again, which she gives priority.
-[X] Sirim uses Shadow Enchantment to target an Ogre that avoided being affected by spells in the previous round with an Hideous Laughter spell. He then uses Ray of Enfeeblement against whichever living Ogre seems to be the most significant threat.
--[X] Hideous Laughter: Will save DC 18.
-[X] After he and Sylestrix make their Attacks of Opportunity against the Undead Ogre, Kori targets it with a Boneshaker spell. If it fails to resist the effect, he forces it to run toward Gorok, hopefully past Cob, too, if positioning allows for it, so the Goblin can take an AoO swipe at it in passing. His next spell is another Burst of Radiance aimed to Blind as many non-CC'd Ogres as possible.
--[X] Attack of Opportunity: +12 [+7 + 1 (Bless) + 1 (Haste) + 3 (Divine Favor)], 1d6+3 damage; 19-20/x2
-[X] Gorok Power Attacks the Undead Ogre if it approaches him. If it does not, he instead attacks it with his bow.
--[X] Power Attack: +15/+15/+8 [+12 + 2 (Heroism) + 1 (Haste)], 2d8+10 damage; 18-20/x2
--[X] Bow: +14/+14/+9 [+11 + 2 (Heroism) + 1 (Haste)], 1d6+2 damage; x3. Special: Allies gain a +2 Morale bonus to attacks and damage against the Ogres for 1 round after Gorok shoots it.

-[X] Cob continues attacking the Ogre he was fighting using Piranha Strike. He makes an AoO against the Undead Ogre if it passes nearby due to Kori's spell.
--[X] Piranha Strike: +14/+14/+9 [+12 + 1 (Trait) + 2 (Heroism) + 1 (Haste) - 2 (Piranha Strike)], 1d6+10 damage; 19-20/x2
--[X] Attack of Opportunity: +14 [+12 + 1 (Trait) + 2 (Heroism) + 1 (Haste) - 2 (Piranha Strike)], 1d6+10 damage; 19-20/x2
-[X] The Large Fire Elemental continues attacking the now Blinded Ogre Priest.
-[X] Sylestrix uses her AoO against the Undead Ogre, then either makes another full attack against it if Kori's spell fails to force it to move, or turns her attention to the next nearest Ogre and destroys it with extreme Dragonocity.
-[X] Pepper does his best to distract one of the remaining non-CC'd Ogres, if only for a few moments. Perhaps a claws meets testicles situation?

A few things
  1. Mina used her turn to hit the Ogre with lightning when it looked like he was going to hit Kori.
  2. The stunned Ogres are stunned for 2 rounds
  3. The fascinated are fascinated for Concentration+2 so it depends on what you do with Sirim

That's asking Pepper to get squished. Would Pepper be ok with that, so as to eat up an Ogre's action?

Like, he is a Figment and he can come right back if Mina uses Slumber on herself; so if he feels ok about throwing himself at something to distract it I'm fine with it, but I'd feel bad asking it of him, if that makes sense.

Edit: Sirim only got one ogre in his Hypnosis spell. I think he's more useful trying to CC other foes, since he does get two rounds of hypnosis on the ogre.

Sirim's Extended Illusion ability adds +1/2 level rounds of duration to Illusion spells that have Concentration as a component of duration. So even if he doesn't concentrate on it, it has a minimum of 5 rounds at his current level.

We rolled low on the hypnotic pattern HD, 2 (+6) on a 2d4 + 6.
Would Sirim be able to target two or more lesser ogres (excluding the one that already failed its save) with a new casting?

I think a chance at knocking out two or maybe three ogres is more useful than a chance at knocking out one ogre.
Edit: @DragonParadox wouldn't Sirim cast Hypnotic Pattern at CL 8, because of his Spell Specialisation, Shadow Enchantment?

  1. Sure, another casting means another roll
  2. He cast that spell straight with a level 2 charm, he did not spent a shadow enchantment

Pepper is immortal, so long as Mina survives, so him distracting an otherwise unoccupied Ogre is a great survival tactic for him, IMO. He also has decent AC, so he isn't guaranteed to get hit if attacked.

@DragonParadox, it looks like you forgot to include Sylestrix's extra attack from the Haste buff in her previous attacks. I don't think it would have changed the outcome of anything in the previous chapter, but it's something to keep in mind going forward.

Shadow Enchantment can't duplicate Hypnotic Pattern. It copies Enchantment spells, not Illusions.

That is an amazing way of looking at it :D. Makes sense.
(If he is popped in the future, I hope Mina will Slumber herself as a matter of course; unless there's some incredible edge case where it's better for there to not be a cat present.) It's always better for there to be a cat present

I've gone over the last chapter, and Sirim doesn't look to have cast his Colour Spray (15ft cone). It might be more useful to try to stun two or more ogres for one round (if he's in position) than to try and take one out for longer, and then try the Hideous Laughter the turn after?

Again, this is a positioning thing, DP, but is he in range of two or more Ogres that aren't currently Stunned/Hypnotised/Blinded?
Could he be in range of two or more targets, if Mina moved him and herself away from the Undead Ogre (so she's still inside his Magic Circle against Evil)

We only have so many Daylights before we are the ones getting locked down by Deeper Darkness. I'd turn my attention to that so long as the Undead Ogre is too distracted to pay attention to our squishies.

If the Dragon kills the Undead Ogre, she'll be free to go after the demon next.

She's the only one with the flight speed to engage the demon in melee, and she has enough damage to tear it apart quickly even at 50% reduction.

If the Ogres are dealt with, the Demon loses its melee support while both Kori and Sylestrix possess the See in Darkness ability which ignores Deeper Darkness. Kori is actually even more dangerous in Deeper Darkness than outside of it.

The Ogres need to be dealt with ASAP, since they hit so hard and outnumber us. We can't let them turn the momentum against us.
