BTW how does everyone feel woth using Bulwark for John after this?
I really do feel like we need our peeps to get shields always so our peeops arent is as much risk of death.

What I find interesting about this update that no one's talked about yet, is that Le Petit Prince has seemingly received his power boost from someone else. Hiver did mention that Powers keeps a list of everyone who received a boost from Scarlet Maturity, and Prince wasn't on it from what he could remember. Now, it's possible that he's simply misremembeing, but if his memory is correct, that means an important question remains unanswered: how did Le Petit Prince get his power boost?

The way I see, there are two possible answers to this, each of them very worrying in terms of implications. The first and simplest possible answer is: he didn't. He was always just sandbagging when using his power before, and now that he's out of Wonderland, he sees no reason to hold back anymore. The second possible answer is: there's a new power booster in town, and they decided to give Prince a boost for some reason. Maybe as a test to see what would happen, maybe because they owed Prince something for whatever reason...whatever the cause, the end result is the same.

According to Wolong's intel, some of the other people inside Monarch's circle are also stronger than usual. Either the villains are also doing some science on Goldnine, or there's a new kingmaker in villain circles.

A simple possibility though is SM boosted Prince and his name simply wasnt listed for obvious reasons. Its not like they have a reason to tell the truth about all metas who SM boosted.

Edit: Also QM MW ambush before should have atleast took down 1 hp from ete and printemps right?
I know MW succesed in hitting them both atleast

Hmm...Wing101r raises a good point.

@Bitterman, are Printemps and Ete each starting with a wound level? Or did Faust use that Lethal Anodyne stuff he brought with him in order to make sure they were at top shape?

[X] Plan: Chew Toys
-[X] Menagerie Witch and Hiver:
--[X] Hiver should vent all his frustrations with Ete and Printemps, keep their eyes focused on him while he uses his barriers to cordon Ete and Printemps away from Blue Sky via repulsion and hopefully disorient them.
--[X] Menagerie Witch and Echidna should focus on taking Ete down while the married couple are disoriented. Have Echidna charge at Ete and savage her while the rest of her constructs chase after Blue Sky.
--[X] As this happens, Hiver should separate Ete and Printemps using the same trick he used on Blue Sky.
--[X] Once Blue Sky is down, get ready to bolt atop the Nevermores and retreat while Hiver keeps Printemps disoriented inside a bubble and Echidna keeps Ete in its jaws.
-[X] Lady Leizi and Handyman:
--[X] Contact the others and try to get back into the fight. Stalk the fog and shadow together in search for a disoriented Blue Sky, and ambush him together in hopes of dealing with him in one blow while he's distracted by Menagerie Witch's constructs.
--[X] Before the ambush is sprung, Handyman should take a denser and more armored form for protection.
--[X] Get ready to bolt on Menagerie Witch's Nevermores once the fog disappears.
-[X] Black Swan:
--[X] Stall Scarlet Maturity for as long as possible. Taunt him over how despite all his power, Faust has him on a leash like an attack dog.
--[X] Rely on your superior speed and flight to outmaneuver the brute, kicking up dust with your attacks and movement to further help obscure yourself, while your beams gun for his eyes and ears.
--[X] If you're successful at blinding Scarlet Maturity, get under his guard and blast him skywards.

Before we make any plans, I think we first need to lay out and analyze what we know about our opponents.
  • Scarlet Maturity - Physically the strongest metahuman in recorded history. Can lift skyscrapers and punch hard enough that the displaced air can turn people into pink mist. Able to regenerate to an extreme degree and adapts to harmful stimuli overtime while also being extremely durable, but that's all a side-effect of his ability to strengthen the powers of others, making him stronger as a consequence.
  • Été - Able to instantaneously create weapons and a battalion of soldiers out of fire. No notable defensive abilities.
  • Printemps - Able to mutate plant-life via pollen he produces, turning them into cannons. No notable defensive abilities.
  • Blue Skies - Hydrokinetic able to manipulate water vapor and thus create and move clouds. More dangerous than it sounds. No notable defensive abilities.
As a reminder, here's the list of supers that Shell Game could still teleport in if we don't take Blue Sky out right now since his fog fulfilled Shell Game's "must be obscured" restriction.
  • Earthen Owl. Could move through soil like water. Prehensile vines growing from his body. New ability to create clones of himself out of vines.
  • Marrow Spider. Osteokinetic assassin. Most commonly killed targets by firing shards of his own bones out of his body.
  • Lethal Anodyne. Algernon-type specializing in chemicals that affected the human body. Glorified drug dealer, tended to use neurotoxins in combat.
  • QUICK GORILLA. A literal orangutan named Peaches. The only non-human example of metahuman powers ever observed. Unparalleled speedster, capable of breaking the sound barrier.
  • Ronin. Blademaster who gained the martial skills of whoever she killed. Personally destroyed the entire Yakuza presence in Horizon. Generally a pacifist, but recently has seemed to have returned to her previous violent ways.
  • The Brass Shield. Some sort of power-armor user. No idea if they made the suit themselves or not. Commonly employed hard-light constructs.
  • pHarreit. Capable of extruding acidic and alkaline compounds from her body at will. Arrested for attacking several of her classmates at Stonehaven College, now seemingly free.
  • The Bloody Slayer. Original leader of SLAYERS who left after disagreeing with the direction of the team. Made weapons out of his own blood.
  • Anansi. Algernon-type hero who specialized in "computers". Was a friendly rival to Moon River, and former member of New Dawn. Her defection to Powers shocked everyone.
TLDR: We don't want any of those people to get teleported in. As such, Blue Skies should be our primary target since not only does he enable Shell Game, but he's also the one primarily preventing our escape.

So, about this plan. It takes a risk by bringing Lady Leizi and Handyman into the fight, but it's genuinely their best option. We underestimated Domion Security Concerns and figured that was all the cards they had left to play, but as can be seen above, they still have a lot of metas in their disposal. We can't risk using public transportation since if we do, there's a chance Handyman and Lady Leizi are going to run into more Powers members.

The gameplan here is to turn a 3v3 into a series of 1v2s by utilizing Hiver's powers with barriers and gravity manipulation. Though Lady Leizi and Handyman are really injured, Blue Sky doesn't have any notable defensive powers, they should be able to knock him out with an ambush especially if helped by Menagerie Witch's constructs.

That leaves Ete and Printemps. They both rely on constructs to fight, so gunning straight for them should be key to winning here. Hiver can keep Printemps occupied inside a barrier, and Echidna with Menagerie Witch should be able to charge through Ete's soldiers through sheer bulk alone to eat her face. If the two are too busy being disoriented and trying to not get eaten, then they shouldn't be able to command their constructs to chase after us until Hiver is too far away to sustain his barrier and Echidna dissipates.

As for Scarlet Maturity, he wants a good fight out of Mona so let's give it to him. Trying to just stall him will probably end up with him just deciding to leave, so we can take a mixed approach. Black Swan plays it smart and utilizes her advantage to keep him from hitting her, and when the opportunity presents itself, send him flying away.

He'll be back of course, but we're not here to beat him. Mona's goal will be to keep him entertained and stall him.

Hmm I think the problem with chew toy is that unless they still have some way to send messages to mw wthats wasnt broken by SM attack. Talking with them reveals Leizi and Handyman.

Rather than informing them first I think its better to just ambush. Also its hard to communicate in the middle of a fight so MW could distracted.

We have communicators and Lady Leizi and Handyman are at the edge of Menagerie Witch's range. Unless they're shouting, they won't be heard by anyone else. They're just going to give Menagerie Witch a heads-up that if they spot a couple of someone's in the fog, it's probably a friendly.

Lucid Prop have I ever told you that your information analysis abilities and strategic acumen are frighteningly fast and clever?

Between you and Mr. Kermie's ability to connect dots on the board full of string, I'm in envy of your two and your processing speed. I'm just the guy who asks questions/makes suggestions that catch people off guard, you are beyond me.

I'm flattered, but I'm only this way because I read too many quests. Ultimately, we'll be at the mercy of the dice so best direct your praise to the RNGods instead. :V

Hmmmm, remind me again if Scarlet Maturity was present in the QZ when Uiara gave the hero's call and gather everyone up to face the endless hordes of behemoths?

He was the only member of Powers to be present from what I recall.
Hmmm, this is only speculation but it might be that since SM's power is dependent on him powering up others, Faust probably didn't want his powers degrading by sending his batteries off to die.

Yep, I'm thinking that one of the potential ways we could weaken him is killing off Power members. It's why Dominion's been on a hiring spree, now that security is much less loose, it's an opportunity for Faust to power up SM even more. It's also why he didn't want Powers except for the big man himself to go on a suicide mission.

It's also why he didn't want Powers except for the big man himself to go on a suicide mission.

For SM to be This powerful at this point, his own power would either have to scale to a frankly absurd level (Like, a 10,000x boost for every Metahuman who he's boosted that scales based on what it's at when he starts the cycle), or that whatever triggers his power-up is just permanent after the initial agreement, and then he can just murder the one he boosted to clean up afterwards, which would let him nickel and dime below the radar for a very long time until he's become inassailable.

The dude is durable enough that even a full force blow from something with the mass of a supermassive black hole won't hurt him. There's either some absolutely wild levels of scaling going on, or he's been running this cycle for significantly longer than Metahumans have been known to exist (Or something in the spectrum between these points I guess). Frankly, just based on what we know, I'd be surprised if he Isn't another Potency 14 apparently, since he's apparently got moderator--if not admin access--to how Metahuman powers work, and can elevate privileges and somehow this also profits him instead of takes something from him.

Of course, there's also the possibility that... It's just bullshit psyops and they're just playing a 11D chess game right now, but we might as well kiss our asses goodbye if that's the case, because there's no competing against that level of power and intelligence disparity. So we have to assume that the part about "Scarlet Maturity is the source of the Power Boost" and "He Gets Stronger with every person he boosts" are correct, simply because they fit what we know is true. They're getting power boosts, and Scarlet Maturity is absurdly strong and functionally invincible.

Though that still raises the question of "How long has he been doing this", because that can give us insight into whether it's just some insane exponential growth bullshit, or if he's some Kane level fucker who's been around for decades in secret preying on proto-Metahumans in order to escalate to effective invincibility, and has only started stretching his legs because he doesn't feel threatened anymore, presumably because Faust either got him in a Contract or Faust is collaborating with him and it lets him feel safe about powering up subordinates.

I wonder if it's some Steelheart shit where he's invincible, except against someone who doesn't fear him. Or in this case, he's invincible--except against someone he's empowered. Which would explain why he only started empowering his actual subordinates recently, since he can guarantee they don't strike at him. That would explain why they wanted a separate contract for the empower. Presumably a "I will not oppose Scarlet Maturity under any circumstances" clause.

Disclaimer: I started the first part of this comment before the update dropped, since it took me a minute to figure out how to add GIFs. As such, it may be inaccurate.

I've been rewatching Gurren Laggan recently along with some of my friends, so that I can get out of the nasty slump I've been in. (Once I'm done with that and building my Unicorn Gundam, I'll fix my pfp and signature and get back to writing my Quest)

But I've been thinking about something else because of that. Specifically, EXCEED BEYOND.

While she was in EXCEED, Nora used powers based on her friends. Red Huntress's energy blades and Uiara as a water construct. Theoretically, if we apply this to EXCEED-BEYOND, the candidate could do this perhaps easier.

Nice "complex hax" dipshit, now block this fist as heavy as multiple galaxies that I copied from Mona, which is currently coming at your face at Mach FUCK.

And also, since Handyman can transform himself into anything, we can also get in some finisher action using either Modules Dynamite or Rock. Any Giga Drill Breaks, anyone? Hell, he could even combine with EXCEED-BEYOND Rock's arm as some sort of multitool.

(Imagine this, but with Handyman hopping on midway through as the drill in question. Module Rock has Enhanced Strength, and it doesn't hurt to try!)

Now for the commentary.
Then you see Rosemary's face. You remember her funeral. You remember Harper bawling her eyes out, Rakeem punching a sandbag until his hands bled, Eve disappearing, Yazmin refusing to talk to anyone, and Nora locking herself in her lab until she nearly starved herself to death.
Oh man… was these reactions before or after they read the letters? Because I imagine finding those helped.
Go to hell, Faust," you snarl, "Better yet, I'll send you there myself."

Then, Scarlet Maturity moves. He's fast, so much faster than your mind can believe something that large can be. He shakes the earth as he leaps forward, but he's so quick he gets there before you feel the tremor. He raises his right arm and swings at you with the most casual of backhand strikes.
Well, I guess he's got [Enhanced Speed] as well. Yikes.
The Audience has given you a +5 to this roll.
The Stage, The Audience… what's next, The Director? Who's The Stagehands?
Nora's shield generator flares to life and dies, absorbing enough of the kinetic impact that it "only" shatters every bone in your right arm and cracks your ribs. You hit the ground hard, unable to brace your fall, and scream as you land on your injured side. Your breathing is quick and shallow, with an odd wheeze every time you inhale. You think you might have pierced a lung, but, somehow, you are alive.
We lived! Ouch!
"Despite what you may think of me," Scarlet Maturity rumbles, "I do have my regrets about Apiray's death. She was something of a kindred spirit."
They were the two Strongest, I suppose. It's a commonality thing over any actual personality connection, tho.
"Now, now, now," Faust interrupts, "Hiver, how exactly did you manage to do that? I didn't give you permission to violate your loyalty clause."

"Fuck you, that's how," Hiver spits, trembling with fear . . . or is it rage?
10/10 response. Straight and to the point, Hiver!
"Fuck you both!" Hiver screams, "You think I'm scared of you?! My fiance is dead, my little cousin is dead, and I can't even live as myself! This is the worst life I could imagine! You can't do anything else to me!"
…@ScorpioSting, you may have been on to something.
form. He grows until he's nearly Scarlet Maturity's height and wraps his elbow around Faust's neck, blades extended from his biceps and forearm.
Oh hey! That's the thing the thread was talking about! Glad to see that we put that idea in Bitterman's head.
At the exact same moment, Scarlet Maturity leaps, the ground exploding underfoot. He clears the distance to Handyman in one bound, rears back, and throws a punch at his head. Handyman manages to yank away at the last second, the force of the blow annihilating half of Balthazar. A spray of shrapnel flies everywhere and a deep furrow is cut into the ground. It's as if a giant stuck his finger in the earth and dragged it through the building
Oh man. This is some visceral description of destruction. I can see it in my minds eye!
Both bounce off, failing to find purchase, as Scarlet Maturity wraps one hand around Handyman's neck and the other around his leg.

And then rips Handyman in half.
!!!

That one's gonna leave a mark!
You've recently taken to reading a lot of books at night, when your brain won't stop replaying the images of what he did.

Most girls your age should be reading fantasy books by authors who will deeply disappoint them later in life. You've been reading veterinary science textbooks, trying to figure out how to better use your power. How to make your creatures stronger, faster, meaner, so, the next time there's a Le Petit Prince, you can bathe in his blood.

You might have some other issues.
Maddie's really hitting the:

But it's also the part of you that almost killed Lady Leizi and ruined your chances at a second family. So you keep it tightly leashed, and only let it free when you know it's time.

As that monster out of your worst nightmares moves to kill Mr. Rhys, you know it's time.

"KILL!" you order your creations, screaming so loudly you taste bile in your throat.
This girl is as old as some of my youngest cousins! Just wanted you all to get a picture of that!
You love Barkavious, Mittens, Nevermore, and Apep with all of your heart. They were with you through the worst of Le Petit Prince. They saw his every depravity; they felt what you had to feel. And they understand your hate.

And so do their copies. From the garden hedges, a giant snake made of shadow strikes and buries its fangs deep into Été's arm. A dozen dogs the size of horse break free and savage her soldiers. But they're just the distraction—the real problem is Printemps' plants. You watched footage of how they could fire seeds like bullets. They could destroy your Nevermores and clip everyone's wings.

So they have to go.

Great, unseen shadow cats attack them from every angle, reducing them to scraps of chlorophyll. A stygian panther leaps on Printemps' back and drags him to the ground. But you're not the only one acting. Hiver immediately places a barrier of light around Lady Leizi and knocks Été and Printemps even further away with another well-placed shot. He fires a shot at the skinny man, but it fails as an energy shield flares to life.
Maddie's out here jumping these fools. Nice! You go girl! (Now go get some therapy soon pls)
An explosion of nuclear fire that would have reduced Floating Venom Morpheme to ash erupts from Mona's arms and hits Scarlet Maturity directly in the chest. He drops Mr. Rhys and attempts to block the attack with his hands. He holds firm for a moment, and even takes one step forward.

Then Mona screws up her face and the light intensifies. You see Scarlet Maturity's arms burn and blister—the first time he's been injured all night—before the ground under his feet dissolves and he's blown far, far away. The light fades and you see Mona missing her left hand up her wrist. You also see a great divot in the ground, like a titan split the earth.
Left hand, and we already melted the earth like butter. Put an arm into it next time, Mona! It'll be great.
"Lady Leizi!" Faust cheers. He's smiling, but it's a creepy smile. Like the smile Ms. Yamato's kid had when he played with matches. Right before he burned their apartment down.

Hey, new candidate???
Let him talk.

"Hey, asshole! You wanna know how I broke your contract?! It never worked on me! I'll prove it!" Hiver takes a deep breath, panic and pure willpower in his eyes in equal measure, "Scarlet Maturity is the one boosting everyone's powers! It's his real power! His only power! He gets stronger every time he does it, and they don't want anyone to know!"
OH SHIT.

This explains… so much.
But it actually explains so little??? What???
"Great job, Mr. Hiver!" you shout. He grimaces.

"Uhh, just Hiver. You can just call me Hiver, I mean. {Ugh, I don't even like 'Hiver'. Though guess I can rebrand now . . .?}"
Yeah, the NB/Trans theory is pretty much hard confirmed now. Bro (Dude? Dudette?) got hit with that "Mr" and hated it.

…if we recruit any of my candidates, I think I have an Omake idea for Pride Month now.
"Wow," you say. You fly in silence for a moment before you have a horrible thought. "Wait . . . is what you said about Scarlet Maturity true? He can make people's powers stronger?"

". . . yeah." Hiver looks through the fog. "They offered me another contract. If I signed it, then he would boost my power. I refused."
Aw man, no extra Hiver powers. Sad…
"Blue Skies," Hiver whispers in your ear, never taking his eyes off them, "He controls water vapor. It's more dangerous than it sounds."
Oh shit, can't water vapor get in your lungs? @ScorpioSting, @LucidProp, have you two taken that into account?
Minor Success: DC 5. Moderate Success: DC 10. Major Success: DC 15.

Stat Check: OPERATIONS 7. Menagerie Witch has OPERATIONS 7.

You rolled: 19.

The Audience has given you a +1 to this roll.

19 + 1 = 20. Critical Success!
Hey! That was me! Let's see what that treat is…
You reach inside yourself, deep into the place where Mr. Chaucer asked you to not go. It hurts so much at first, but you find what you need. Your friends are here. They all love you. You love them. You all feel the hate. The need for vengeance.

And the hope that one day it will be a need for justice.

You gasp as your new creation steps free. It has the head of a great wolf, jaw filled with daggers of shadowy teeth. Its body is that of a lion, paws padding silently on the ground. The dark wings of a crow extend from its back, while its tail is a hissing snake with ruby-red eyes.

It towers over your enemies and you feel its heart beat in time with yours.
DELICIOUS, SCRUMPTIOUS, AND MOUTHWATERING. YOU GO, GIRL.
Menagerie Witch takes one injury level! Superficial injury!

Menagerie Witch's HIT temporarily raises to 7!
Looks like it comes at a price. In exchange for doing this, it looks like Maddie's partially injuring herself and her bones, similar to what happened at Third North Tower. Though this time, it's all in one creature instead of many.
There's a terrible responsibility that comes with your power. During your training it was emphasized over and over again that even slightest lapse in focus could kill countless people. You had to think about every shot, measure every burst of power, keep the gnawing void at your core in check. Because, if you didn't, someone could get hurt. If you didn't, someone could die.

But now, here was someone who could take it. Here was someone who deserved it.
Oh man. Mona's really sounding like Superman letting go of his limits.
Hey, tell me something!" you say, tapping your chin, "What's your favorite flower?"

"Why would you possibly want to know that?"

"Duuuuuuuh! I gotta know what to put in the wreath at your funeral!"

"You—ghkk!"
Aight… Mona's banter is increasing! Nice!
Lucid Prop have I ever told you that your information analysis abilities and strategic acumen are frighteningly fast and clever?

In all honestly, I'm about as dedicated to this quest as I am to Honkai: Star Rail and Project Moon. That should say a lot about how much I like this quest.

With this quest, @Bitterman… you've essentially condensed an entire fandom into one singular forum thread. This thread alone has more posts that both my Quests combined. Said quests started in March and June.

You've made something special, something spectacular. A living, breathing world that seems to open up by the second. That gilded post is a testament to that.

And on a related note, the Corkboard ain't even remotely done yet! I still gotta put in detailed entries for both Apiary and Towarri's thing. And that isn't even getting into Faust and SM now… I'll do that once we get to the Fill-In Issue.

[X] Plan Interference Play V2

--[X] If you're successful at blinding Scarlet Maturity, get under his guard and blast him skywards.

One suggested alteration to this, up and away. To my understanding his power lacks any sort of long rang movement ability so blasting him a few hundred miles away into the sea will take him out of the fight. Going straight up means he might come back down close enough to make it back in time.

Also btw, we now know that Scarlet Maturity probably did not power up the wonderland villains. Both of these passages support that.

"No. There was a big list of everyone he's powered up. I don't remember every name on it, but know I would have noticed if Laurent was on—wait."
Palisade is pale and hisses furiously to Wolong, "Le Petit Prince has new powers too. It has to be her—"

That just leaves me with one conclusion. And it terrifies me.

Did Socialite Butterfly copy Scarlet Maturity?

I won't deny that it's possible he could easily murder his battery once the contract has been signed and be off with it. Faust might've put some conditions to how Scarlet Maturity powers up then loophole it enough to where the mortality of the receiver is of no consequence.

I'm thinking there could be another way to it however: he could put meta humans to just in an inch of death, then Faust would use Lethal Anondyne's drugs to the point where they would just be alive but nonfunctional, thus becoming actual batteries.
