We are really severely missing out with the "Doing our Homework" plan.

Alicent keeps showing up when we train, so this presents us with a golden opportunity for a private chat outside of courtly protocol.

And Tarly will be much more likely to get a good impression of us if, when we ask him to train us, we actually put in the effort to train.

One thing to note:
Traits

Strong
If you were a man you would probably be a knight already. You cut a striking figure, tall, solidly built, with muscles like a maiden's dream as they like to say. Though in your experince you have more than a fair few boys and men starring at you along with the women when you train, some just to gawk and mock you of course, but your strength has won you your share of admirers. Your strength is remarkable for your age, practically unheard of for a woman. With proper training you could become one of the deadliest fighters in the Seven Kingdoms. While luck or the gods made this strength relatively easy for you to acquire, it is something that needs constant work to maintain. If you don't train enough your skills with the sword may start to fade, and your hard earned muscles will begin to disappear.

Training isn't just required in order to improve our skills, we also need to train or otherwise we'll become worse as a fighter overtime. Given one of our ambitions is to become a knight, we're essentially "locked in" to needing to become a better fighter, or otherwise fail one of our ambitions.

On the subject of Dragonstone. Canonically Viserys forces the issue once he gets angry when he hears Daemon stole our brother's dragon egg, but the chance to make that deal with Corlys is time limited, and not taking part in the freeing of our own castle seems like it may come across as indolent. Not to mention that canonically Otto essentially fails when he tries to get Daemon to leave. It requires Rhaenyra's intervention before Daemon finally agrees to get out.

I just think tournies are a bit too soon for us right now. We've had it clearly pointed out in this latest update that we're not yet ready to take on seasoned knights, with even a four points advantage in the rolls against Mallister still resulting in our eventual loss. It just seems too early, since there's a lot less of a point of going on a tourney as of now when we're so unlikely to win one.

Corlys is mentioned in his description as somebody who could help in our ambition to gain a seat on the small council. Added to that is that he is currently troubled by the matter of the Step Stones. If we talk to him we could potentially make a deal with him: He tries to convince the council that we should get a seat, and in return we use our influence with our father to try to convince him that Daemon should be sent to fight in the Stepstones.

We're going to have to get Daemon ejected from Dragonstone at some point. Dragonstone is our castle, and the traditional seat of the heirs of house Targaryen. Having Daemon squat at it hurts our legitimacy as heir. Might as well try to use that as an opportunity to also improve our relations with Corlys and boost our chance for a seat at the council.
TBH I want to speak to Corlys soonish as well, BUT I kind of want to do it the same turn we speak with Rhaenys for narrative reasons, since they actually play as a team...

And I think that this is the perfect time for us to speak with Alicent, we have just learned from Otto that despite our strained friendship she still speaks very highly of us, so it is pretty likely tat we would trigger a narrative synergy if we speak with her now...

I want to speak with Rhaenys to, but I don't think its strictly necessary to do so at the same time. Given that we only get to speak to two people a turn I also feel that it's always going to be a difficult ask to speak to both at the same turn.

The way I see it our chance to make a deal with Corlys on sending Daemon to the Stepstones in exchange for his support is a bit more time sensitive. Once its found out that Daemon stole Baelon's egg the chance might be out of our hands, and also I want Daemon to stop squatting in our castle. Consequently I feel its somewhat more pressing to act with regards to Corlys then Alicent right now, but that's just my preference. Feel free to choose otherwise if you feel like it.

I do feel we'd have a bit of a difficult time of speaking with Alicent right now given Otto is angry at us and how much Alicent values his opinions though.

We can get Daemon to leave next turn, when we look into Aenys's death.

...why exactly is the death of Aenys Targaryen supposed to be so important, anyway? Even if Maegor or Visenya did do it, ultimately Aenys' line won out. There is nothing there that would shift claims or legitimacies. And yeah, we are too young for tourneys. And I have advocated for studying the small Council before already.

"Knight Commander," you say with respect as you turn towards your former sworn shield. "Would you say that one of the most important duties of a member of a Kingsguard day to day is guarding the King and the Targaryen family from would-be assassins and bandits along the road?"
Sorry to be so pedantic, but I don't think I've seen that formulation for the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard?

Honestly it would be very fun if seasoned old Ser Raylon Tarly was just as insanely xenophobic and misogynistic as everyone else, though expressed in his calm chivalrous language, but just had a particular Marcher version of patriarchy where of course they are not disgusting Dornish indolents, but ladies of their Houses are expected to clear the lines of fire and keep the armories and larders well stocked and fiercely defend their lords' holdfasts and even whole fiefs in their absence, regularly put into practice against Dornish raids like Lady Ellyn Caron against the first Vulture King.

(also is the write-in okay?)

Rhetorical arguments about whether a woman can rule. Last turn we did research into Visenya to understand what it meant to be 'Visenya reborn' and found a lot of interesting details and nuance to her life and rule, but a lot of that had been brushed under during Jaehaerys's rule. He went to great lengths to delegitimize everyone associated with Maegor's rule, as thus Visenya and women rulers were a big casualty. Visenya has been largely demonized after the fact, and that will hang over us even if we maneuver our reputation to be outside the control of the ruling High Lords.

If we can prove that Visenya was not guilty of Aenys's and dismiss the accusations of black magic, we cut out a lot of rhetorical arguments against Rhaenys at the knees. Not enough to stop a lot of people, but enough to shore up support and give people an option to switch sides to us if needed.

Tempting, tempting... though I feel like our main source of information on that topic would in fact be Tarly, so that could overlap with the conversation with him.

Hm, okay, that makes sense. Though I still feel that would be so far removed and abstract as to not be worth an action.

This is a sucker's bet: House Tarly will produce Lord Randyll in only a few generations.

It's already the second link in an action chain, I'd not be surprised if the chain was quite lengthy.

The thing is even if Visenya didn't poison Aenys, one thing that is indisputable is that she supported Maegor's ascension. Even if no sorcery was involved, how much can the image of someone who was the chief supporter of the most hated king to ever sit the throne so far can be rehabilitated? She was even the one to officiate Maegor's polygamous weddings when no septon would agree to do so.

If we want to use previous Westerosi queens to try to legitimize our rule then I figure Rhaenys would be better then Visenya. Rhaenys wasn't the warrior Visenya was, but she was still a dragonrider who frequently went into battle. She sat the Iron Throne and passed multiple laws of her own, and she isn't afflicted with being associated with a rival bloodline to our own as well as all of Maegor's many atrocities.

It would be hilarious if we somehow ended up with a Dance that was Rhaenyra and her faithful siblings warring against their evil uncle the rogue prince and his grasping, greedy velaryon backers. It would have such a different feel to it.

I figure our opponent is most likely to be Daemon of Viserys never remarries, but there are some cases I could see us ending at war with Daemon even if Viserys does remarry. A pretty easy one is if Viserys remarries but when Teen Spirit rolls for his children Viserys gets only daughters. Daemon would be more likely to cause issues in that case as he'd still be Viserys' closest male heir, so he'd still be able to rally to his side those that think that only a man should sit the Iron Throne.

In that case we'd have Andal succession laws on our side rather then against us in the case Viserys has sons.

Yeah, but by Andal succession laws Rhaenys (the Queen that never was, not Aegon's wife) should have been Queen. The Great Council of 101 really did a number on female royal succession, as it can be readily cited as royal succession excluding women, period. Of course, the counter-argument is that it set succession at the time rather than a precedent and Targaryen succession has always been by a heir being named.

But of course, yeah, Daemon's position would be weaker than the position of any brother of ours.
