But it shouldnt be; Empathy is a Key Ability for her, and she would be rolling with BSM, CCC and TLF for that sweet -5DC buff to her rolls.

Surprise, people and things below can hear you carve in through the substance and other sensors can probably detect it as well, the elementals would merge with the fabric of the fortress in a way no one would be able to recognize in time. Places like this do change dramatically from time to time, just not against the will of the Yama King normally.
Yep they are risking their freedom to open a way to the lower levels and allow you surprise over whatever waiting for you there

If they get captured doing this, Molly will have to go back for them, at significantly greater risk to everyone.

Are they infected with the hope plague? Cause if they are it might offer insulation; if they get absorbed they'd infect the entire superstructure of the building, waking the elementals bound to it and encouraging them to assume their own identities again.
Also, since it's a willpower roll can we use leadership or something to buff them? Not sure how that's supported mechanically but it seems like inspiring socials should help buff mental resistance checks.
This fight cost us a good amount of time, so making it up is very tempting if we can make it reasonably safe to do.

Charisma leadership could be used to inspire them, but that would take at least a few minutes. It is probably not wise to linger that long.
Fair enough. I don't suppose this is a pass/fail they'll just burn willpower to auto succeed is it?
Alas no, you cannot burn willpower on a willpower roll, only for Attribute+ability rolls
