I'm undecided about write-ins, but I think this is necessary

Why shouldn't we pick up the weapon? All things considered, isn't it better to have a gun than to not have a gun?

The donor of Unit-02 tried to do a partial donation, despite the many, many warnings she was given. It did not go well. Foolish, stubborn woman.

What did you mean by this rits. You can't just say that and not elaborate

We have her by the ovaries, so we may as well ask her questions

[X] Pick up the weapon

No murder today.

[X] "What the fuck's wrong with me!? What the fuck's wrong with you?! You are trying to murder a child, and that child is asking not to be murdered. How did you get like this, Rits? Executing children, talking like a cultist? We went to university together! If it wasn't for me, Rei would already have gunned you down. You're welcome, by the way."
-[X] "Rei, please continue to refrain from shooting her, despite...everything. You're doing well so far."
-[X] "Now, I want answers. What's this business about Rei's soul? What's that thing about a donor for Unit-02? What else am I being kept in the dark about!?"

Edit: I've taken a page from others (particularly @VX-145 ) but have deliberately gone for a shorter, more impassioned variant. Partly because it feels more appropriate for the character and the situation, partly because we've tried logic against both characters in the past, and they have usually been able to logic right back and rationalize why their ingrained beliefs are actually correct.

Hence, my write-in is a succinct version of "you're trying to kill Rei and this is wrong" and "I am trying to defend you, you idiot, I'm the reason you're not dead already."

Also, I think it's better to have a gun than to not have a gun? If fingerprints are a concern, we can wipe the handle or dispose of the weapon later.

A couple of reasons, all of them having to do with Ritsuko, this is a very tense moment here, she has already dropped her weapon, and from what I understand it is at her feet, thus the option is still there for her to pick it up again if she perceives the need is critical, this option and her choosing to trust Misato playing a role in keeping her from trying to grab it and fire.

But having Misato pick it up represents a dynamic shift here if we don't play our cards right that is, if Ritsuko thinks that Misato is on Rei's side, who she knows wants to kill her, thus making her lose trust In Misato and having her go for the gun or revealing she has a second firearm, thus leading to a outcome we are trying to avoid, most likely her, or Rei or all of them getting shot.

And despite what a lot of people may think about Ritusko in general, we really (REALLY) need her for the war against the Angels, and having her around, and on our side, represents a major shift in the war against SEELE and Gendo, (not that Misato knows anything about that yet)

[X] Write-in
-[X] Tell Rei that you, too, are intimately familiar with the feeling of wanting justice for dead predecessors - your father's demise was the very reason you took up arms and joined NERV. Killing the Angels was your way of attaining it. But look where that has gotten you - you are an alcohol addict who marches children into battle, landed two of them in hospital and nearly got killed at the start of the last Angel attack. From someone who walks that path, you can attest to Rei that if she wants to live and keep the memories of her predecessors alive with her, starting down that road of revenge by pulling the trigger will not be conducive to a happy ending.
-[X] Remind Ritsuko that part of the reason Rei is pointing a gun at her now is as much for revenge as it is out of fear. If Ritsuko were to kill the current Rei, what would stop the next incarnation from eventually developing the same feelings about her predecessors' fates? Ritsuko would have to kill that one too, to stop her from taking revenge. And the next, when it happens again. And the next. You wonder if that wasn't the reason a number of the earlier Rei clones were killed to begin with.
--[X] You don't believe that Ritsuko truly wants to do that.
-[X] There's a chance to break that cycle now - but only if both parties agree to lay down their arms and make peace. If Rei can do what you could not and walk away from her revenge, if Ritsuko can accept that as proof that Rei is more in control of herself than Misato and is less deserving of death than you are.

So with that In mind, I am voting for this option, since it continues the themes we started earlier, namely making Rei think about the wider context of shooting Ritsuko, how that will be perceived by those she loves, and about what she wants out of this situation, while homing in on how Ritsuko does not want to be doing this either.

I like this a lot more than the anti-revenge speech

-[X] Kick the gun away into a far corner of the room.

Picking up the gun seems like a bad idea, opposite of where we wanna take this.

[X] Write-in:
-[X] If Rei shoots, that means she dies. That means Misato dies. That likely means Shinji, Asuka, Hikari, Toji and the whole of humanity dies. You're not going to tell her to let go of her hatred - what NERV has done to her is beyond criminal - but she has to weigh up her courses of action. Is blind vengeance worth that? Is it worth failing to keep the memories of the other Reis Ayanami alive?
--[X] Rei hasn't crossed that line yet - you and her can figure out how to move forwards from here.
-[X] You're defending a child who has been murdered over and over from someone who's trying to kill her, Ritsuko. Try and be actually objective for once - examine her behaviour here. She's trying to argue why she should be allowed to murder a child while that child is asking not to be murdered. What the fuck is wrong with her? Does she hate Rei that much?

[X] Pick up the weapon
-[X] Shoot and destroy the Reiquarium, here, no reason to kill Rei and Rei have no reason to kill Ritsuko
I hope this is a joke, because it's funny.

If it's serious, I'd like to apologize for treating it as a joke and remind you that the Reiquarium'd Reis are conscious enough to laugh maniacally. I don't know what would happen if Misato destroyed the Reiquarium, but the clone Reis probably wouldn't appreciate being shot at and there's no way Ritsuko left enough bullets in the magazine for all of them.
Also, both Ritsuko and Rei would probably object to this course of action.

Why shouldn't we pick up the weapon? All things considered, isn't it better to have a gun than to not have a gun?
Optics. If we pick up the gun, we're taking the power to shoot whoever we think needs to be shot. If we kick away the gun, we're definitively refusing the violent option, hopefully encouraging both Ritsuko and Rei to do the same, de-escalating the still uncomfortably escalated situation.

Personally, I'd do this sort of thing later - the immediate concern is de-escalation, and if Rei steps back a bit that then buys us a bit of leverage to use in the next write-in.
Hm.

Remember how Asuka accused Misato of favoring Rei? We definitely don't want Ritsuko doing the same here. She doesn't have a literal gun any more, but if Rei doesn't shoot Ritsuko she could rat Misato and Rei out to Gendo, which is about equally effective as a weapon. Slower, but almost certainly more painful.

For that reason, and also because Rei's the one who still has a gun, we should probably focus on calming her down. Ritsuko had a turn, and she can have another turn once Rei's calmed down.

I have my preference for which Do Not option I want, but lots of people want to intimidate Ritsuko for some reason

The thing is, the opposite is also true. I really don't want Rei to think that we're favouring Ritsuko over her, not least because it's fundamentally not true.

That's part of why I suggested taking turns. And voted for a plan which emphasizes that Misato wants both sides "to lay down their arms and make peace."

I wonder what Rei's plan is. Killing Ritsuko and making it look like it happened after the transfer to 12th? Something more elaborate like merging with all the clones somehow? What exactly Rits is an obstacle to? Depending on what Rei has in mind, we might force or persuade Ritsuko to help with it.

Edit: backup vote:

She's an obstacle to Rei XI surviving more than an hour. I wouldn't be surprised if Rei had a plan, but I also wouldn't be surprised if she was sacrificing future security so she could have a future.

WTF Is anime and the heck is this?

I think there might be more than this. Rei is a smart girl and knows that killing Ritsuko doesn't solve her problem, just postpones it for, like, 30 minutes. In case Gendo actually ordered this and it's not Ritsuko's own decision.

And if she doesn't have a plan, we need to know it so that we can come up with our own.
