Quite often two Asur who happen to ride male and female griffons agree to let their mounts meet and produce baby griffons.

Aside from that, most of the time a prospective rider will venture into the wilderness to look for a juvenile griffon, old enough to have been kicked out of their parents' nest but still not fully grown.

Not because they think going for the nest is immoral or something, but because having someone else do it for you or help you with is considered terribly gauche, and having to fight or sneak past one or quite possibly two adult griffons on your own is not something most elves want to take a crack at.
Nice. Maybe when we can spare the time from the Lightfangs we can go on a trip to the world's edge mountains to try to do the same. We'll make a trip of it! A familiar could help a lot in finding such more quickly and Ghur would help a lot with the actual taming.

If it's plausible to both find and tame a juvenile rather then an egg then we could also try to find one that's familiar worthy.

Going to be funny to have a Griffin refer to the bird as big brother if they happen to be of a similar enough species.

We'd also probably want a horse for her if she's going to be our scout. Probably at least for the guy from Ellyrion given that he's apparently proficient in mounted combat.

Agree, seems like a good plan.

Unless we are going to have many or proficient scouts, the guy from Ellyrion may be a good scout leader.

That could work, we should see what skills the Swordmasters have that can help develop the company. Beside fighting i mean, stuff they can teach our recruits.

[X] Yes, you need all the manpower you can get.

It's probably unavoidable that at least some of them will. But, well, that's a bridge we were always going to have to cross, so hopefully this'll be a growing experience for everyone.

We should also look out for other human recruits and how they might react to her.

I like the idea!

Also, unrelated, but Fanriel might ask Tulo to teach her the Ropesmenn language. She dosen't know it right? And a Loremaster always wants to learn more, is part of their religion.

Keep in mind we're going to need learn at least three new Ghur spells before searching for a griffon mount if want to do this right: The tier 1 spell that lets us talk with it, the tier 2 spell that helps us blend in while in the wild, and the tier 3 spell that helps with the actual taming.

The problem is that the Swordsmasters are likely the best answer to basically any martial problem. At least one of them will be stupidly skilled at basically any aspect of combat. Swordsmasters are also an extremely limited resource. Every one who is doing something like scouting is a swordsmaster not doing something else.

This is not exactly true. From previous posts from Blackout on the subject we can understand that our Swordmasters are, well, Swordmasters. They're really good with the sword, but not necessarily with everything else. According to Blackout they're generally also good with the Bow and Spear because all Asur who go through the militia have to learn how to use those, and the one from Ellyrion is also a very good horseman.

Still not spending a Swordmaster to do scouting work is something I can understand. I'd still say we should try to get him a horse though, if only because as an Ellyrian he'd appreciate it, and because it'll probably be easier to get the respect of horse based societies like Ungols and Bretonnians if at least we have one of our elves who can style on them with his horsemanship. Nobody else needs to know that Fanriel and the Swordmasters are not nearly as good.

Also horses would be good for speed because they can carry supplies so Swordsmasters don't have to. Less time foraging. Less energy spent hauling gear. It adds up to traveling faster.

We are going to need a baggage train at some point. We may as well start simple and build up rather than discover we suddenly need one badly and don't have one.

[X] Yes, you need all the manpower you can get.

Given that the planet is implied to be 3x larger than Earth, and the World's Edge Mountains are on the far side fantasy Russia, it's safe to assume that we won't be getting a griffon this year. Unless Blackout throws us another bone.

Though this has me thinking, @Blackout how good is the Swordmaster from Ellyrion when it comes to horse archery? The wiki tells me that the Ellyrians have a pretty substantial tradition of it, and total war shows me that Ellyrian horse archers are overall pretty boss.

Given that our Swordmasters have experience as spearmen and archers from the militia I figured they'd be used to train our spearmen and archer blocks, but perhaps Cothaerion would be better served actually teaching any Ungol horse archers we may recruit.

At the very least I'm even more convinced we should get him a horse soon, assuming we plan on meeting the Hag Witches. Having a skilled horseman like him among us would probably help in making a good impression on a horse centric society like them.

The biggest advantage of being an Elf is well... extensive experience at pretty much anything.

Our troops are master swordsmen true, most if not all are also proficient with the spear and the bow. Blackout mentioned, that a few are good hunters and can be counted on getting us some food out in the wild, should that become necessary. That also means they can track and move about the wilderness on their own without getting lost. At least one is good with beasts and animals, another seems to be a good horse rider. Basically our Swordmasters have the advantage of extensive life experience when compared to humans and with some luck we collectively know a bit of everything, much like Fanriel as a Loremaster.

No skin off my back. We'd probably want at least a year before doing something like searching for a griffin given the amount of preperation we'd need to perform for it and the current situation of our finances.

Though I have to say this seems like something of an exaggeration. Here's a map of Kislev. Traveling as far as Praag would already take us half of the way to the World's Edge mountains from Erengard. Scales of real life countries do not necessarily correspond to that of their Warhammer expies, given that in this game fantasy Germany is multiple times the size of fantasy Russia for one.

Cothaerion is an Ellyrian noble so yes, he would be familiar with horse archery.

Yeah, we will need those spells. But considering how long it will take to reach the World's Edge Mountains we have all the time we need to learn them.

Nice. At the very least he'd be good to take with us to meetings with the Ungols in order to earn their respect.

We should see about getting him a good horse next downtime now that presumably we have the money for it.

Yeah, he seems like he would make a good leader for our scouts. When he is not fighting alongside the other Swordmasters.

Another idea i had for a Sword Art:

Rending Talon of the Sun Dragon: A Sword Art invented by the Caledorian Bladelord Aelar, who developed it by observing a Sun Dragon swooping down on a Druchii warhost. The user of this technique coats his blade in a layer of Aqshy, then makes a great leap upwards thanks to his elven agility and swoops down on his enemies, unleashing a wave of fire with each powerful slash of his sword. This technique is made to break enemy formations, and enemies who see it performed are inflicted with the terror inspired by the fury of a dragon.

Are you sure about that? He is one of the few Swordmasters who are explicitly not a noble
"That", You began to say as you smacked your lips, "was the worst thing I have ever tasted... Thanks for that", you finish as you walk out the door, flipping a coin you think is around the worth of what he asked for at the human, and take another big glop from the neck of the skin.

What? I'm not an noble; dad taught me not to waste drinks, even bad ones.

Well, you can, they're just in Laurelorn and Athel Loren.
What about Bretonnian? IIRC they have theirs mate with elven steeds from Athel Loren from time to time, though I imagine theirs are more suited for the ferocity and strength of a lance charge rather then the swiftness of a horse archer.

I'm also pretty sure the Bretonnians don't sell their warhorses to anyone. At least, it was a central part of a quest I played.

Approved.

Huh, the Swordmaster chart says he is.

They're not to the standards of elven steeds, and also extremely illegal to sell outside of Bretonnia.

Jyn replied to me that he would basically have to be noble to get away with what he has, so I put him as noble. I can find the post if you want.
I wasn't really thinking hard about that.

Whatever makes the most sense.

Edit: I think I was thinking that he is the type who sees himself as 'of the people' but actual non nobles roll their eyes at.

Elf middle class trying to to slam it basically.

I wonder if with time our swordmasters will sort of evolve from an elite squad
to the captains of various regiments under us
