Esquestria: The House of the Sun - A pony cultist experience

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Dear reader! Whether you are new here, archive-reading and whatnot, or you are already someone who has been with us for quite a while, I would like to say a few words that I believe are best kept close to mind.

-This is an MLP quest. And more importantly, none of us are gratuitously cruel. So good things will happen on this quest, and I hope that enough good things have already happened to prove that.
-This is also a horror quest, so bad things will happen. Bad things might happen to good characters if you are not able to protect them, and you most certainly will not be able to intervene if you lack the tools to do so.
-And finally, this is a quest in which you jostle with powers greater than yourself, with all that it entails.

Please, do keep those things in mind as you go forward. But ultimately, this is also a quest in which it is hoped we all have fun! So if any of the above points is not exactly your cup of tea, or somehow make the experience as a whole "not worth it", then this quest might not be for you. Which is fine! Individual tastes are a thing, so don't think any more about it if you don't want to read anymore. And regardless, I hope you have a lovely day!

PSA for whoever needs to hear it:

Readers should take their own mental health into consideration when voting and not subject themselves to triggering narrative elements like rape or constant mental torture of a friend just for the Greatest Good of a world that doesn't exist.

If those are fine for you or Regrettable is even more triggering, then GREAT! More power to you. But you aren't a bad or selfish person for picking the option that keeps the characters you've emotionally connected with safe. [REDACTED for spoiler warning]

This is a high intensity quest that doesn't hold back when it comes to horror and negative consequences. Take care of yourself.
(Quote slightly edited to avoid spoilers)

You are putting a lot of weight on "Baldomare is the name of finding things" to find a location.

The best possible outcome I can see from this is her finding somewhere that isn't too expensive for us to buy.

Which will mean we would have to turn to mindwhammying someone anyway.
Personally, you seem to be putting too little weight on that. Names are really fucking good at their specialties for a reason.

You are putting a lot of weight on "Baldomare is the name of finding things" to find a location.
well, yes. It's quite literally her specialty, the thing she's absolute best at.

she explicitly rolls +80 with a reroll. She can reach 150+, the "impossible" tier of feats, a third of the time (reroll not counted!).

Surely finding either a place available for rent, or a glade, or a cavern, or the castle of the sisters, or something else, is not beyond her.

Oh yes. And I don't understand why we are making the Burea more personally loyal to us when Luna will in theory becoming its leader next turn. Or the turn after maybe.
it's mostly a way to mitigate the negative rep from skipping work a bit. And as repeatedly stated by many different people, we have no idea in what condition Luna will be, how much she'll remember, how much she'll trust us, and so on. So I'm trying to just not plan anything in regards to her yet.

Gets entangled in Velvet Prides plot in spite of all the irons we already have in the fire.
Yeah, this is pretty much a waste of an action. It could be interesting to do the "family stuff" with him, but it's far more important to get things set up so we can protect the ones that are already our family, or our dear friends. The Velvet house just doesn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things.
Et cetera censeo:
Velvet Pride lives in our house, we are exposed to him, if he ever decides to become active as a competitor he can cause us issues.
A stitch in time saves nine.

Birb has made it clear the malus has no narrative or mechanical effect beyond colouring the text and us not paricipating in fights unless pushed+giving us a -10 in combat. It doesn't change the options we get at all.
And that is exactly what happened in the example they gave.
Velvet did not participate in the fight, leading to DoA taking more damage than necessary.

A similar thing could happen if our guards ever have to get active.
Scared Velvet not acting while the guards are still fighting, only when their victory/defeat snaps her out of her deer-in-headlights state.
Which means removing Scared means Velvet acts sooner (and with +10), leading to a better grouping for our side.
Would you prefer Comet vs 3 thugs-send-by-copper or Comet+Velvet vs 3 thugs-send-by-copper?
Sure, Comet+Mareinette has its upside too, but the +Velvet would be a permanent boost.
(or in a later turn maybe 2 Bureau guards vs 3 thugs-sent-by-copper or 2 Bureau guards +Velvet vs 3 thugs-sent-by-copper)

Velvet is Edge 4. If she was able to use that properly, she could be very useful in a fight (equivalent to Comet (!) )

Much like executing an expedition. There is more to getting a large and private space than simply finding one.

A lot of things impact suitability. And cost.

It just seems odd to me when the option to get our hooves dirty is right there.

Which would also actually be doing the work. : /

And your right about the future being a relative mystery. I just don't see a more personally loyal Bureau being useful to us. Especially with oversight from the day court.

Velvet is Edge 4. If she was able to use that properly, she could be very useful in a fight (equivalent to Comet (!) )
Okay, that's going too far. We have half the health, have the raw martial bonus, and don't use Edge AotLs almost ever. Velvet is half as useful as Comet Feet, at best.

Granted, half a Comet Feet is still very powerful, but it's not nearly equivalent to him.

To be fair, we could have Velvet do it. She rolls at +20 with reroll, +40 with attention from the laws. That ought to be enough as well.

Heck, if we had confirmation that the servants would not find it weird for us to keep asking like that, I would use the ponyservant action for it, bonus or no bonus like we did on turn 15... Only reason I am not making one just in case is because we have no internet in the house and doing it on my phone sounds exhausting.

Well, not quite equivalent, but close.

We'd reach a base of +29 with 2 health.
Comet has a base of +39, and 4 health

The problem is that Comet always has an AotL Edge on him. So that 39 is more like 59. So no. Not better. Unless you make a plan with AotL Edge anyways, and I don't see any of those.

Velvet can always run away!

and then she throws a nice good EiB or PtN at Comet. Or summons a MitL. Or send Mareinette and/or Axe. or a Windigo.

Velvet is scary

Actually, that seems like a really good idea. I don't really see a need for the Grail on Pride, Velvet's got good enough social to do that at least moderately well. An Edge AotL however makes Velvet a lot better in case combat happens, for barely any cost.

While true, that wasn't the comparison being made.

I was partially hoping an edge artifact might help with our personal combat score, but we ended up getting an escape options. Which is far from BAD. But was very unexpected.

Actually, buck it. I will make a plan with ponyservants being useful just in case it is aproved. Just let me copy my "original" plan first so as to not erase it from the tally.

I will be having Baldomare scry for Fangiclave in this one but that with Marienette means not enough bits for a 3rd level reagent. Should I change it for a level 2 one, save the money to do it next turn or switch Marienette to some other social?

Okay, that's going too far. We have half the health, have the raw martial bonus, and don't use Edge AotLs almost ever. Velvet is half as useful as Comet Feet, at best.

Granted, half a Comet Feet is still very powerful, but it's not nearly equivalent to him.
Half the health:
True, though much less relevant if its about us supporting someone else fighting on our behalf.
With scared cured we'd have 29 personal combat versus Comets 39. True that i misremembered that, we have 74.36% (rounded) of Comets. much better than half, but not "almost as good". Btw outshining Shining Armors "Heroic" by 4 points.
AotL... Yeah, if Comet uses AotL Edge thats another bonus, and its likelier he uses it since he is specialised while we would only use it when we foresee a situation that requires it. Unsure if should count.

3/4 as good a Comet when it is about supporting a fight, not being the frontline fighter.
Actually goes down to half as good if we assume Comet has AotL edge and we dont, 83% as good if we assume both have AotL.

Better comparison: Velvet without Scared would be a better supporter (fighter who doesn't use their health) than Shining Armor was a fighter in "I see you my enemy".
Velvet CoverShining Armor
+29 Personal combat+25 Heroic
reroll every 6 combat rounds
potential for AotL Edge (would be another 20)

Citations on the Comet and Shining Armors data (from his fight against Shining Armor):
[Comet Feet's current health: 3/4]

[Comet Feet invokes the Attention of the Laws]

[Comet's first roll: 47 14 + 39 (Personal Combat) + 20 (Attention of the Laws) = 106]

[Shining's first roll: 23 + 25 (Heroic) = 48]

Citation on Velvet Covers data (from Character sheet)

Total personal combat: +19 (+9 martial, -10 Frightened, +20 EDGE)

Actually, isn't the next place of interest in canon CS the Malleary? Maybe we should read the two Forge books just in case, that way if we get a scrap we get Forge 4 and if we get 2 one of the books does not become obsolete.

(Though given the state of the mansus, the malleary is probably cold)

Frangiclave voters mind voting for my plan? This gives us a greater chance of finding a Ritual site by ourselves, and then only falling back to Baldomare if it fails; and helps us get a better bonus on the Grail action to boot.
I've also made a version that doesn't neglect our work further, if you would like?

negative rep from skipping work a bit
Correction: It's skipping work a LOT, we are already skipping work a bit automatically

That's great, congrats. This quest is good enough to get me to actually participate rather than just read it. :)

I'm also happy that Illuminating Invitation (MLP:FiM AU), by @Alivaril seems to have won Best Ongoing Fic as well. It drew me in when I was checking out all the options on the votes.

I kinda regret I only skimmed the initial chapters. I need to restart it and read it properly.

Users here might enjoy it. It's basically "Sunset summons and Eldritch being in her quest to gain Celestia's love" :V

As someone who has read it properly, I would definitely second Pittauro's recommendation, it's great.

Cadance does also feature and is probably the best pony in the entire quest. There is also someone Else who's great, but you'll have to read to meet her... it... idk, go and read it!

I will properly thank everyone for this later. My body is still all beaten up from the last few days. But suffice to say that this is awesome and is hands down thanks to you all. Stories are made to be read, so a story really depends on its community, which is you guys!
So no doubt, I write this for all of you, and I am delighted that you guys like it!

Also
That's great, congrats. This quest is good enough to get me to actually participate rather than just read it. :)

I'm also happy that Illuminating Invitation (MLP:FiM AU), by @Alivaril seems to have won Best Ongoing Fic as well. It drew me in when I was checking out all the options on the votes.
I haven't read Illuminating Invitation (yet), but it's on my list. Still, I am definitely glad @Alivaril won! All props to her.
I am delighted because it's mlp-related, and even though G4 has been over for several years now it's awesome that it still has people dedicated to it.
And secondly, Alivaril was the very first person to ever comment on this thread, on the very first page. So, she always had a special place in my heart, and I am glad she had her efforts recognized!

Anyhow. I will see you all tomorrow. Gonna go continue resting. And I hope you are all well!

To be honest bird there's no quest quite like house of the sun in SV. As in there's not another true horror quest. This is a thing that really set this quest appart.

[x] Plan Pittauro, All in wedding without key but with expedition.

Don't like any of the plans, not nearly enough rasing our confidants level so they can actually start helping properly.

(what even is a Dartspony, anyway)?
My guess is some sort of Lore-enhanced assassin that hunted down monsters and "monsters" alike.

From the Cultist Simulator Wiki:
In times long past, the Tragulari - the Dartsmen - were employed to hunt immortals and their chattels. The Troissaint Company is generally supposed to have extirpated them after the First Worm War... but perhaps not in every History
