Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Why two?
There was only Sanya there.
One of the two. I explicitly said one of the two. Because one of the three Swords is currently inactive, so there are only two Knights currently available? And neither of them would be sent that far out of the way on a mission unless it was really important, since that's literally half of the available force projection for countering Denarian schemes and the like.

Would rather not deal with Molly's potentially Yander Lunar boy/girlfriend tbh.
The relationship aren't always romantic and in fact often aren't. It's very possible to be bash brothers or sisters. Or to have a Kirk and Spock relationship.

It's just when you are supernaturally good at working together you tend to work together.

It would also be kinda weird if they were a girl because a lesbian Molly is not. It doesn't feel like one of those things we can just change about her.

Many Lunars, like Luna themselves find such labels as 'boy' and 'girl' quaint, not saying such a Lunar is about to show up, just pointing out how the bond used to work in the old days. It's not just the physical shapes, being a fluid ever-changing seducer is part of the power the wonder and the terror of Luna's Exalted.

Oh yeah but we are playing Molly and I'd assume if we found a lunar they'd probably be a modern person. Given if they're fine with fender fluidity or straight up are a trans man with new powers then yeah sure I doubt Molly would care. Given I don't think Molly would find much attraction in the female bits. Well unless it was like appearance 6 and above cause like at a certain point last 5 gender does not matter with those stats.

I was making a reference on the old Lunar potrayl.

More specifically, the "relationship" between Lilith and ths Solar who got Deus's exaltation.

Im not really buying exposure to our brand of crazy resulting in special knowledge like some infectious cognitohazard.
Here:
The MAKERS did not know what they had wrought. They sought... champ... wearing gilded collars, gestalt-reflections of their own magnificence. But the Green Sun... were more... ever ant... Within them slept a greater power than the... own: the power to... nature and be REBORN. A new era is at hand. THE WHEEL TURNS.
Incidentally the snippet Harry (partially) Saw is the introduction to Heretical Charms in The Broken Winged Crane, which is both a sourcebook for Second Edition and an in character text that changes with time.
Not quite full protagonist power, but still a good showing considering his head didn't explode.

Just out of curiosity, is this the sort of exposure that he can learn from as a wizard? They're all about weird information, but I'm not sure if he's the type to be able to see fractal essence growth displace the edges of reality and retain an impression to help with his gate spell equivalent, rune carving, or whatever.
Yes, this is the kind of thing that can lead to a deeper understanding of magic, mechanically a higher Arette. Hell if he keeps getting blasted with Age of Legends lore he might get a very exotic specialization out of it
Harry now has a fragment of literal Yozis holy text forever inscribed into his memory, on the plus side if he had rolled 5+ successes he would have seen 'Yozis' instead of 'MAKERS' which, because he was not actually reading text, but bearing witness to an act of cosmic significance, would have come with a vague understanding of what the Yozis were (?) mutilated world-creating titans, turned demons who became their own Hells.
We cheat, because we dont have to worry about power requirements, we dont botch Craft rolls, we dont have to worry about safety.
A machine for someone else to operate has none of those assurances, and
The juice is not worth the squeeze.
This is directly what an apparatus gadget is supposed to do:
Apparatus: An Apparatus is a Gadget designed to do something not really possible with
conventional technology, or at least not conventionally available technology, or which functions

much better than existing technology; jetpacks currently exist, but they're extremely limited and
suck in many ways. Gadget jetpacks don't suck. An Apparatus can be anything from a plasma
cannon to a hypnotic jukebox to an actual no-shit time machine. As a general rule of thumb, the
more story-defining an Apparatus's function is, the harder it is to keep it running all the time. A
plasma cannon, which is just a really nice weapon, is fairly reliable. You can expect your time
machine to basically catch fire and need to be rebuilt after every use.
Since having resources 4 or even 5 is not really story-defining for us (because we are not playing Lunar of the Wall Street), we can expect our diamond synthesizer to work fairly reliably.
That was more or less magic, not technology.
The distinction is not really meaningful. Just saying. Motonic science is science and magitechnology is technology.
IIRC, mortal lifespans normally topped out around a hundred and twenty, which isnt more than 50% higher than some of the best averages in modern life.
Geriatric research sadly doesn't provide linear gains, as far as we know. 120 for an average lifespan is Star Trek Federation levels of advancements. Incidentally, this is wrong. The average lifespan is 85 years, but for each Resource dot beyond 2 you can increase it (170 years for Resources 3, 240 for 4, 480 for 5):
MORTAL LONGEVITY
Most mortals in the First Age live approximately 85 years. A combination of excellent diet and regular access
to advanced medicine means that even the poorest mortals rarely show obvious signs of aging until they are in their
early 60s. While 85 is the average for 90 percent of mortals, however, individuals who are especially wealthy or who
the Deliberative values have access to treatments that can greatly increase their longevity. The bioengineering of
the Longevity pox in a mortal is a one-time treatment using moderately advanced Essence-manipulating technolo-
gies that retard aging and increase the average life span to 170. This pox can be freely purchased by any character
with Resources ••• or higher and is routinely given to all but the lowliest mortal employees of the Deliberative
government. Individuals with Resources •••• or who have an especially important position in the Deliberative
government can obtain anagathic drugs that further slow aging by almost 40 percent, giving mortals who have also
obtained the Longevity pox life spans of approximately 240 years. In all cases, these treatments work exceptionally
well until shortly before they run out. Regardless of their life spans, then, mortals using longevity therapies begin
visibly aging only during the last two to four decades of their life.
A very few exceptional mortals can petition to be given an enhanced longevity treatment that requires a
minimum of Resources •••••. This treatment requires a sufficient number of rare and expensive reagents that it is
available only to those mortal employees of the Deliberative government who have demonstrated exceptional talents
and an impressive degree of loyalty and service to the Deliberative. This treatment again doubles the character's
life span, allowing mortals to live as long as 480 years. Only one in 10,000 mortals is considered sufficiently valu-
able to obtain this rare treatment, though. It is largely reserved for the heroes of the Deliberative and the personal
favorites of the Exalted. The only way for a mortal to live longer than 480 years is either through use of one of the
rare age-retarding hearthstones or by means of a bracelet of shared life (The Books of Sorcery, Vol. I—Wonders
of the Lost Age, p. 59). Both options require the willing aid of one of the mighty Celestial Exalted, and only a few
hundred mortals in history have ever been granted such a boon.
The highest end stuff that was available to Celestial Exalts was spectacular, but the general societal baseline wasnt really any better than what you'd see in middle-class Western societies.
And was sometimes worse; for instance, no personal computers, just a single massive AI with multiple terminals across the setting.
Personal computers vs. terminals is a design choice which can be argued at length. In some ways we have better stuff, since it's more focused on mortals, in others, it's better in the First Age. Incidentally, I AM is almost fully replicable as Emanation 5. Here are its canon stats (Exalted 2E - Dreams of the First Age - Book 1 (Lands of Creation) [revised] page 24):
Motivation: Work, study, learn, grow, feel
Attributes: Strength 0, Dexterity 0, Stamina 3; Charisma 3, Manipulation 3, Appearance 5; Perception 7, Intelligence 7,

guages spoken in Creation) 10, Lore 5 Medicine 5 (Giving Instructions +3), Occult 2, Performance 5, Presence 5,

Other Notes: I AM possesses automaton physiology (see The Books of Sorcery, Vol. I—Wonders of the Lost Age,
p. 96). Its Appearance is 5 only at hologlyphic terminals, as it may manifest impressive visual displays to back its state-
ments. Where it is equipped with only audio, its Appearance is effectively equal to anyone with whom it converses,
providing neither benefit nor drawback, or 0 in the case of the rare Appearance roll. I AM can maintain an effectively
infinite number of Intimacies indefinitely. The soak and health levels given here are for a single cogence node. As an
entity distributed across Creation, broadcast from the Eye of Meru and 30 other backup transmission towers dispersed
across the world, destroying I AM through physical damage is more than a matter of smashing a terminal. I AM's mote
pool is only 40, but its connection to Creation's geomantic power grid causes it to regenerate 40 motes per action.
We can't make it's quite as good from the get go (mainly, we don't have enough points for abilities), but we can get close if certain liberties are allowed during Arcana creation, like taking "every attribute starts at 1" (which gives 3 points total) and shifting them all to stamina, and not spending any points on tetriary attributes, but rather putting them all in secondary or primary attributes. And also if we use training charm(s) to improve him later.
I cant speak for Exalted 3, but this only bears superficial resemblance to how it worked in Exalted 2.
And absolutely no resemblance to how Alchemicals happened in ExWoD.

This is more mythological than that.
What you should be thinking of is the myth of Pygmalion and Galatea, or for a more modern take on this, one of the origin myths of Wonder Woman as being sculpted out of clay.
I quoted this before, but here, again, is how alchemical exalted were made in E2:
EXALTATION
The secret of Alchemical Exaltation is jealously guarded
by the Five Magnificent Sodalities of Penultimate Truth and
Intransigent Gospel, each of which possesses only a fifth of
the knowledge required to bring forth Champions of the
Machine God. Only by working together at the vats may new
Chosen be imbued with life and Exaltation, and only then
by unanimous vote of a National Tripartite Assembly.
The Pious Harvesters of the Hallowed Flesh know how
to create and process the alchemical broth in which the
bodies of the Exalted are cultured and catalyzed.

The Glorious Luminors of the Brilliant Rapture keep
the secret of the temperatures and cycles to which the broth
must be subjected for it to imbue its mystic benefits to the
nascent Exalt.

The Prolific Scholars of the Furnace Transcendent
understand the complex Essence technologies of the vari-
ous implants and Charms that grant the Alchemicals their
superhuman might, and it is they who forge those wonders
that will initially be incorporated into an Exalt's body.

The Meticulous Surgeons of the Body Electric are
trained in the all-important art of molding the flesh of the
Alchemical Exalted. They pack clay and wax and grease
around the implants of the Scholars, but this body is useless
without the Essence-catalyzing broth of the Harvesters or
the proper cultivation of the Luminors.

Finally, the Illustrious Conductors of the Consecrated
Veins alone understand how to properly affix a soulgem to
the Essence-infused frame the other Sodalities have crafted
and prepared.

These steps are not undertaken independently. Over the
course of eight months, the five Sodalities work together to
perform a complex ritual that joins enormous quantities of
the magical materials with exactingly machined parts, rare
clays and precisely brewed chemical concoctions to produce a
crude approximation of a human form. Next, in a painstaking
procedure requiring eight days to properly complete, a flawless
diamond soulgem is attached to the figure's brow. The valves
to the Exalt's Essence reservoir are then opened, and for the
next eight hours the Alchemical's Essence supply is ritually
purified with repeated straining and efficacious prayers until
no contaminants remain. Finally, an elaborate prayer lasting
eight minutes joins magical materials, clay, brass, Essence
and soul together into a living being. The Alchemical's eyes
open, her personality catalyzes and solidifies, and she rises
from the vats to begin her service to her nation.
Boiled down, these are requirements for making an alchemical:
In any case, Alchemical Exaltation requires four elements: proper materials, proper heroism, proper executors
and the power of Autochthon.
Materials for Alchemical Exaltation include a number of rare clays, exactingly machined brass parts, carefully
cultured crystals and alchemically treated glass, exotic oils and prodigious quantities of the magical materials, plus
many chemicals and mystic reagents
. These demands are equivalent to the upper echelons of Resources •••••—so
much so that buying them up would drop such a character's Resources Background down to ••. If using alternative
financial Backgrounds, an individual Alchemical's construction mandates Salary ••••• or Wealth ••••. Making
Alchemicals in a batch lowers the overall cost compared to Exalting them one by one, levying an investment equal
to Wealth •••••. In the Second Age, only a few superpowers such as the Realm, the Mountain Folk and the
Deathlords possess sufficient quantities of magical materials to meet this demand without stockpiling in advance.
Proper heroism demands a proper heroic soul. A soul of insufficient heroism, or of heroism not suited to the
primary magical material used in the construction of her new body, causes the process to fail.
The final demands are those least understood by the Autochthonians and most likely to puzzle any Celestials
who study the process. Alchemical Exaltation is a six-part process, requiring at least five implementers with the
Alchemical Demiurge mutation
(see pp. 111-112), each of whom must possess and implement a different part of
the fivefold formula of Exaltation. In practice, because the process is so labor-intensive, usually many more than
five individuals are involved. The sixth element is the power of Autochthon himself, channeled from the sleeping
Primordial through the souls and labors of his chosen Demiurges.
We are making something very much like this. Yes, not exactly, but it certainly rhymes. We are going to take clay and likely whatever magical materials are available in the Courts, and fashion a body out of it. We'll likely pack it full of supporting technologies to give it superhuman feats - our courts have advanced prosthetics and cybernetics, which we are likely to repurpose for this. Thats's "perform a complex ritual that joins enormous quantities of the magical materials with exactingly machined parts, rare
clays and precisely brewed chemical concoctions to produce a crude approximation of a human form" part with caveats that there's nothing crude about the form. Then we will be connecting Lash's spirit to the body. It would likely need a vessel / brain analog. Making it in a form of a gem might work. That's "a flawless diamond soulgem is attached to the figure's brow". Finally, we will be animating the body with essence from a Dragon Nest. There's likely going to be prayer and purification / transformation of essence in the process. We are not Autochton, but we are a sleeping Primordial.

It's also quite possible that we'll be involving artisans from the Courts as helpers - they have experience in creating autonomous drones and bodies for machine spirits, we could use them. Given the ritualistic significance of the number 5, and how each city specializes in different things, there are likely to be 5 helpers / delegations of mortals. There's probably 1 in a million chance that they'll have dormant sodalite genes even:
Alchemical Demiurge (Abomination): More than mere
combinations of souls and N/A-level artifacts, Autoch-
thon's Chosen are Exalted. The Essence technology that
enables the fusion of their spirits and bodies to create an
Exalt rather than a mere soul-bearing robot is as compli-
cated as any other Celestial Exaltation. The only being in
the Realm of Brass and Shadows who truly understands how
to create an Alchemical Exalt is Autochthon himself.
But the autonomic processes of his Design regularly
examine and select qualified individuals—these days,
always members of the five Sodalities with some form of
Craft rated at ••••+—and bestow this mutation upon
them. It transforms the mind and soul rather than the
body, creating a connection to the slumbering genius
of the Great Maker and allowing the Demiurge to share
Autochthon's nigh-unlimited cognitive bandwidth when
learning how to create Alchemical Exalted. This is how
a human mind comprehends and implements one-fifth
of the Alchemical Exaltation formula, and how a human
body's labors become a direct channel for the power of
the Machine God.
In his wisdom (and anger, and fear), Autochthon
bequeathed the secret of Exaltation to the mortals dwell-
ing within his world-body… and none other. Not only
are Exalted forbidden from ever obtaining this mutation
by any means, but even God-Blooded are never consid-
ered valid candidates for Demiurge status. Attempts to
interrogate a Demiurge or read his mind are doomed to
failure—the mortal himself only fractionally comprehends
the work of which he is capable, with the vast majority
of his knowledge distributed throughout the crystalline
Core of Autochthon. Likewise, watching a group of
Sodalts at work creating an Alchemical is as fruitless as
observing Lytek polishing and recycling an Exaltation
(a task that was undertaken hundreds of times over the
course of the First Age, to little benefit). The process is
merely a technological ritual permitting the Great Maker's
animating power to flow through the Demiurges and into
the nascent Exalt.
Ultimately, a Twilight who wants to create Al-
chemicals will have to force mortals to do so, probably at
sword point. The Great Maker, in the moments when he
was able to bring himself to contemplate such a terrible
eventuality, considered that theoretical Solar's endless
frustration to be just punishment for the betrayal of the
Mountain Folk.
Boilnig down - my point is that if DragonParadox wanted, the whole thing could easily link to alchemical creation. We are not making an alchemical, obviously, but we are making something very damn similar. Similar enough that, if our exaltation has experience with them from first age, some resonances might occur.
In my opinion?
If it contained an Exaltation, I suspect that the runner would have been a LOT more willing to stand and fight.
Or at least to send all the goons dancing to fight in his stead.
Only assuming they knew what it had. But yeah, I think "perfectly smooth hemisphere of pale stone" is just an altar symbolizing the moon.
Would rather not deal with Molly's potentially Yander Lunar boy/girlfriend tbh.
Lunar bond, from what I understand, is not necessarily love. In long term MIchael getting one as a retired-from-knighthood package might be the ideal option (for the good guys). That's very unlikely to happen, though. Among our associates... Lash could be a fit, I guess. Not sure who else.

OK, looks like we are not letting them play with the toys, but we are taking all of them.

--[X] Go ahead and set aside a pair of pistols and rifle, a case of the grenades, and have a suit of armor custom made for each of them. For Lydia, too, while we're at it (and maybe some other people later). And we'll take a case of the Surge Kits as well.
--[X] We'll bring it all back to Earth with us, but they don't actually get their shinies until they've been properly trained to use them. There will be time for that after school, on the weekends, etc. We'll have FCF personnel on Earth soon enough who can help with that. They'll each get a Surge Kit immediately, of course, as will Lydia, Harry, Thomas, and Michael.

Arc 10 Post 10: Expert Oppinions
Expert Oppinions

3rd of December 2006 A.D.

On a more in depth consideration, about the depth of the balefire burns on the target mannequins for the demonstration come to think of it, you decide that handing these guns to a pair of teenagers who have never held one is not a good idea, even if the guns to come with a copilot. So you box them up to take home.

Gained Arsenal ●●●
You are a serious collector of military hardware, not only of small arms, but also body armor, grenades and medical supplies. Wouldn't raise eyebrows in some parts of the country... if only it weren't all alien tech.

Thus you spend the rest of the Academy's working program getting Olivia and Daniel set up to take some courses, explaining customs and expectations back and forth as well as demonstrations of Olivia's powers which get some thoughtful looks from a handful of the teachers, especially a black-scaled gurvel veteran named Twice Unbound Emerald Claws, a former Syndic-Corp assault team leader for Integrated Entertainment.

"If given sufficient protection from passive mental assaults you could be a terror upon any battle ground. Choose your sitelines correctly and any magician seeking to pin you down must put themselves in range of your weapon. Learn to stalk your targets and the threat of your attention might be worth more than the flash of your flux-gun."

Sneaking a look over at Olivia you find her looking daunted. "I never much liked Westerns as a kid," she tries to make a joke out of it.

"You don't have to..." you start, but she shakes her head.

"No, this is part of what I asked for, not just to protect myself but the others as well. Fear... fear is something I can use. it's better if they are afraid and don't start shit after all, the vampires, the fairies, whatever else is out there. I'd rather work with the police, Special Investigation you called them, than be the lone gunman though. Feels like they could use the help."

As you explain the conversation to Twice Unbound Emerald Claw the old warrior tilts his head bemusedly. "Of course you should seek a team to watch your back and place all action in right-harmony with the law. Why would that be in question?"

Even though you do your best to explain the veil between the mundane and the supernatural on Earth you do not think the point gets across, not even as much as it had with the Council. They are used to thinking in terms of high level politics, factions and layered conflicts that might produce counterintuitive results, but for the academy staff the idea that there might be a conceptual difference between a flux-gun and one that works on common chemical accelerates, one that it would be worth a wide spanning conspiracy over, is utterly alien.

One copper haired woman blinks slowly, accompanied by the sound of a camera shuttering from her third augment eye and shakes her head. "Now I understand why the preconditions for traveling Beyond are so stringent Majesty. We are talking about a full technological lock-down"

She pauses to think and by now you know that look. On the one hand you are a living god, on the other hand you are over here being chummy with these obvious young folk so maybe you did not think this though.

"Permission to speak freely," you somehow manage to deliver Picard's famous line without giggling.

"It seems unlikely that such an embargo would last for any great length of time, weapons, kit, bodies, all of these are potential vectors of contamination and ones which are far more amenable to study than the purely arcane works of 'wizards'," she uses the English word rather than try to parse out a translation.

You open your mouth to reply that magic has only been growing more obscure since the Enlightenment with those places and those people for which the curtain is drawn back having an interest in the status quo and then you remember something from the files read on the way here. The woman in front of you Still Blossom Among Black Thorns is herself over twelve hundred years Earth Standard. Were she born to the same world as you she would have been alive when Charlemagne was crowned. Her idea of 'a great length of time' is definitely not the same as yours.

"Perhaps that is so, but it is no reason for haste when the Powers that Be have not even shown their hand."

Speaking of Charlemagne or his descendants in particular Daniel is nowhere near as enthusiastic about Silver Needle as Olivia, not only does he not have her affinity for mental veils, but given his training in close quarters fighting, both armed and unarmed standing off four hundred feet with a riffle isn't the best use of his talents.

But it would make him safer, the small voice in your head that sounds suspiciously like Mom points out.

What do you sugest for Daniel?

Reminder of what we know about the Fivefold Howling Style.
Fivefold Hollowing Style

Drawing as it does from the five aspects of Sanctuary this style is favored by warriors and scholars of the City of Laws alike, though many of the magicians of its sister cities consider it antiquated as it is brash, a brutal weapon for a more primitive time. The Five Aspects are:
  • Civilization, the House of Law, representing the city, concerned with the teamwork and unity of mind, taught first for it is the aspect which most resonates with mind of man, tocatli, gurvel and seta alike
  • Savagery, the House of Courage, which empower the martial artist with the cunning and the strength of beasts.
  • Howling, the House of Domination, concerned with channeling the raw power akin to Great Storms into devastating, but exhausting elemental attacks
  • Darkness, the House of Serenity, drawing its inspiration from the empty stillness beyond the boundaries of Sanctuary it grants the practitioner the power to walk unseen, unheard, even unfelt, though at the risk of losing themselves utterly as they they fail to reconcile the paradox of their own existence. Only the true master of the style can learn Arts of this aspect and even they do so sparingly. It is not the nature of material beings to contemplate the void
  • The Hidden Way, the House of the Forbidden. No one has actually mastered this aspect, indeed it is only theorized to exist from the fragmentary writings of long dead explorers who braved the Labyrinth and learned of its secrets. As these bold souls delved ever deeper they did not return
That is all Molly knows about it from looking around the noopshere, she does not inherently know it because it is not a part of the world, it is something the people in her soul developed on their own. In terms of power it is somewhat stronger than the Shih arts, but dependent on having some kind of spirit bound to you or having your Po unlocked.
@DragonParadox do we know if it is purely a brawl style or can weapons be used with it?

He should be under the protection of the Wheel in our lands so it wont kill him atleast... well permanantly. And considering he can use melee with the style I would consider giving him Silence to use with it when ready. Unless we are planning to use it ourselves?

If he dies here he would be under the Wheel, but keep in mind the resurrection is not instant and he would henceforth be a Creature of Darkness

So, I think this is a comprehensive enough plan.

Daniel is Molly's little brother, but her time is limited and she has people who can do the training now, lots and lots of people. Obligating her to spend the kind time necessary to actually train someone to use a melee weapon is effectively setting our AP on fire and flushing the ashes down the toilet.

I knew this would be controversial. Ok, removed.
