Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Plan political incident

Unless we add a rider that after we have all the info we will decide whether to call Lara or not, the second version seems to imply we will not call her no matter what

Are we positive that this isn't a shapeshifter impersonating the dentist in order to get us into conflict with the white court? The dripping liquid shadows sounds vaguely like shapeshifter bodily fluids mentioned in the book about stealing Hades's stuff.

Using NWS would likely be enough for us to be sure as well as giving us a bit more extra information.

Working cell phones are so amazingly overpowered in DF I can see why Jim Butcher went out of his way to nerf them.
Speaking of. White Council claims jurisdiction over mortal practitioners. By not calling or at least notifying Harry we also make a political statement.

I think we have to call her in all cases except "she ordered this attack", in which case I think Molly would not call her anyway. @DragonParadox can we trust that if Molly finds put that this was a hit sanctioned by Lara, she would, in fact, not call Lara about it?

I was just going through the core book looking at charms and I realized that had Molly been an Abyssal (which I briefly considered when I wrote this quest) her options for mind control would have been so much worse. I mean sure you have your standard 'obey for X time' in the form of Irresistible Succubus style, but that is nothing, that is peanuts compared to:

Lies That Tell Themselves (••••)
Carving away parts of her listeners' identity with her will and her words, the Abyssal may rewrite the memories of another.
System: Spend 2 Essence while detailing the subject's new memories and roll Manipulation + Expression, resisted by the target's Willpower (both at difficulty 6). The subject's memories can be rewritten based on the number of successes left after subtractingthe result of the opposed Willpower roll:
• 1 success: The events of a recent scene can be rewritten.
• 2 successes: The events of a recent day can be rewritten.
• 3 successes: A single pivotal memory in the subject's life can be rewritten. Alternately, entire weeks of the subject's past can be written so long as they're not crucial to the substance of her life or identity.
• 4 successes: A major feature of the subject's life can be rewritten (such as who they're married to, where they went to school, or whether the Abyssal is a hated enemy or their childhood friend).
• 5+ successes: The subject can be given an entirely new history.

Throw thing with some excellencies and difficulty modifiers and that Black Council member who just attacked you does not just serve you, they legitimately and honestly think they are whatever you want them to be

[C] Write in preferred intimacies

To be honest I am now really glad I did not give you an Abyssal for other reasons.

In theming Abyssals seem much more centered around violation than the Infernals.

Except for the Ebon Dragon, but even he has endless compassion and affection for the doomed.
It's still amazing that the Ebon Dragon is the best end of life carer you could hope for.

The Abyssals are all about taking the pain and horror the Neverborn constantly suffer and inflicting on the world until said world agrees to die.

Infernals are more about revenge and imposing (tyrannical) order on a crumbling world.

I suppose it's sort of the difference between hurting someone as a means to an end and the actual end being hurting that person.

COMMENTARY
Looks like we're stumbling over the Chicago part of the plot of White Night early. The dentist was not a Cauldron member in canon.

If this was a lesser skinwalker, it would have proc'd Demonic Primacy. Since it didn't, Dr Jackson is probably for real.

The vic could be Madrigal Raith or Vittorio Malvora or "Priscellie" the Skavis. Malvora has an Outsider possessing him, so I doubt a linear sorcerer would be able to do this.
And Molly would recognize Madrigal.
This is probably the Skavis.

She choked the guy to death. With shadows.
Thats Shadowcasting 5/6, which makes her the most powerful/adept member of Cauldron we've met. Maria Casselli can do more wide scale damage, but Dr Jackson is more adept in her linear path. Which suggests that they are going after the more powerful talents first. Better check on Maria.

Gonna note that we just committed multiple felonies in moving a dead body and helping the perpetrator leave the scene. Just as a reminder that we've committed to telling Lt Murphy about this. Should be hilarious.

In order:
1)Check his wallet for ID(assume we use MHM to get it after putting the body in the trunk)

2)Have Clippy + Cyberdevils trawl social media and the Internet for his face.face

3)Send Isabel or Thomas sanitized pics to see if they recognize him. Dont text a pic, just upload it using public Wi-Fi to an offshore imagesharing website and send them a link

4)Question Dr Jackson

5)Get Lydia to question the ghost

6)Crown question, using the scene as a focus

I'll add those to my vote in 50 minutes when I get home.

Well she could do it with lower shadowcasting, if they failed the willpower roll to resist. And given she is not dead, or even notably injured that is almost certain. Path magic save maybe the Hellfire path is generally terrible for surprise combat. That goes double for anybody with potential access to the Celerity discipline.

Would Molly recognize Madrigal Raith if she saw him? I don't recall encountering him previously.

No she can't.
Making shadows solid enough to deal physical damage is a Level 5/6 Shadowcasting ability. So she has to have maxed out Shadowcasting as her primary path.

Either that or a custom variant of Hellfire, but everything points at Shadowcasting.

EDIT
Linear sorcery's use in surprise combat depends on your chronicle and your use of the optional rules for making Path sorcery faster to cast and more powerful. Given the general tenor of the Dresden Files, I suspect most Path sorcery in this setting is running with all the options for power combat enabled.

Molly: Moved it? It just floated into the trunk, the state would struggle to argue that is a thing I did. *blinks innocently*

He is someone you heard about Lenith was doing him a favor, but you have never met him.
His alternate identity is a fairly well known horror movie director and producer.
He was supposed to be a headline special guest at Splattercon. And he was on the convention floor; Dresden met him there.

Molly would recognize him on sight.
She might not know that Darby Crane and Madrigal Raith are the same person, but she would recognize him, because she was a horror movie aficionado.

Only if they know that we could have. Not calling a wizard of Harry's level is easy to explain by how frustrating it is to get hold of a wizard of Harry's level on the phone usually.

[X] Plan political incident v3
-[X] Excellencies as appropriate and ATB with willpower to investigate the scene
-[X] Investigate the scene of the crime first
--[X] Check the whampire for identification, and cellphone
--[X] Have Clippy run a search for him, using facial recognition and ID, if you find any
--[X] Check with Thomas and, if he doesn't have anything, Isabela, to see if they know the whampire.
-[X] Try to question Dr Jackson some more before you involve anyone else in this
-[x] Use your crown to ask one or more questions of the scene
--[X] Using the scene itself: For what reason has this attack occurred?
-[X] Call Detective Murphy, she might be able to help and you did promise to keep her up to date about supernatural dangers in the city
--[X] On her personal phone, and use metaphors to describe the situation
-[X] Helen and other Ordo members, asking them to get off the street and behind wards if possible, until you verify the situation has been handled
-[X] Call Lydia, she is the local expert on the dead, maybe the vampire's soul is still around to interogate
-[X] Call Lara, this is her people, she can help you dispose of the body and damn well explain this
--[X] After checking that she is not responsible for this attack

Ok, I think that's about enough? We might add BSM, but that seems excessive - we already have WHWH running. I am tempted to add (using the whampire's shoes) the question of "who did the owner of these shoes serve?" to check for Nemesis.

This does drive home the importance of getting Endless Torment Emanation as soon as possible> Just need to encounter one person, and a potentially global effort can stalled hard.

It would allow Molly to really to effect global events without being physically present.

Keep in mind that is is possible to contest the effects of charms with other forms of magic, the book even has rules for it, it is just hard because the Charms of the Exalted are the primordial investiture of the Incarna, the power of Gods such as do not exist in this world as seen though the lens of an Artisan Titan's greatest work, forged in an hour of desperate need. To contest them is almost always an uphill battle, the best you can do is tie with them for 'priority'. How high one would have to go to do that Molly does not know, save that is is pretty high.
