"Hold off on the next wave of Mobile Dolls, use the artillery network!" You hear Captain Katsuragi order over the comm.
You see the flashing lights of reconnaissance planes turn aside up in the air. A split second later, you see a missile barrage that would have made the crew of the SDF-1 jealous erupt from the hills and converge on Ramiel.
Ramiel responds by sweeping a particle beam across the missiles, destroying them before they can impact off the Angel's AT field. There's a flash of light, and you and Yukari glance backwards to see one of the hills with missile silos in it looks like someone fired an oversized shotgun into it. A second later, the hill explodes.
A few seconds later, you hear the distinct whistle of artillery shells flying through the air. You turn to see the first salvo sailing through the air toward Ramiel. Most of the shells bounce off the Angel's AT field, detonating as they fall into the surrounding city. There's another flash of light as Ramiel annihilates the remote artillery park that launched the first salvo.
Artillery network integrity check
Roll 3d20-roll greater than 50 will knock out the network
13, 6, 10 = 29
Result: Artillery network retains enough infrastructure to stay intact, threshold lowered to 40 next time it's used
Despite Ramiel periodically vaporizing an artillery park every few seconds, it appears the NERV built so many of them that the Angel is having trouble destroying them
quickly. You hope that Shinji will be able to kill Ramiel with his next shot.
You are Shinji Ikari, and you are desperately trying to line up your next shot.
As artillery shells rain down on Ramiel from all directions, you watch the targeting reticle flit about your screen. For some reason, there's an odd green tint around it that you're certain wasn't there before. You'll have to ask Dr. Akagi if the Getter Team's contribution of power has anything to do with that. As the targeting reticle settles on what you hope is the Angel's core this time, it turns so that one of its 'corners' is pointing in your general direction.
Your blood runs cold. Did it notice you charging the positron rifle? You can only hope it doesn't have a fix on your position.
Ramiel vs EVA-01: Sniper Duel
Ramiel attempts to shoot EVA-01 with a high-power particle beam
EVA-01 attempts to shoot Ramiel with a positron beam
Opposed rolls-if the same number is rolled on both dice, the shots will interfere with each other and cause both to miss
Ramiel's roll
vs
Concealment DC 15
1d10 + 8 Ability + 2 (rough idea of angle from being shot) - 4 (Artillery barrage)
Roll 1
1 + 8 + 2 - 4 = 7
EVA-01's roll
vs
DC 14
1d10 + 6 Ability + 2 (Kurz's advice) + 2 (7 Will) + 1 (Will of the Getter)
Roll 3
3 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 14
Result: Ramiel misses entirely due to a combination of injury and the artillery distracting it, allowing Shinji to snipe the Angel's core
As soon as the system says you have a lock on the Angel's core, you pull the trigger without any hesitation. Ramiel fires at the same time. Although Ramiel's massive pink beam is intimidating, it becomes substantially less scary when you realize its angle is too shallow to hit you. In contrast, your modestly sized green positron beam sails true and spears the rhomboid Angel straight through the corner that it used to fire at you. At first you fear you missed the core again, but then a pained scream issues forth from the Angel, and you see a red fluid resembling blood gush out of its new, fatal wound. A few seconds later, the bright blue cube falls out of the air, dead.
You sit back and let out a sigh of relief.
You are Setsuna F. Seiei, and you are in the process of stabbing one of the copy Shamshels in the face with the GN Sword when it suddenly dissolves into orange liquid.
You see the Gundam Kyrios stumble in the air as its GN shield claw no longer has anything solid to grab onto. You and Allelujah descend just above the surface of this strange liquid, Allelujah dipping the tip of the Kyrios' GN shield claw into the liquid before taking it back out and flicking it away.
You look around and see that all of the other copy Angels have also dissolved into the same orange liquid with the death of Ramiel.
Looks like the battle's over.
Results
Ramiel has been defeated. NERV is dispatching cleanup teams to recover its corpse
EVA-00 and EVA-01 are both fully intact, although Rei Ayanami has expressed disappointment that she didn't have an opportunity to protect Shinji
Shinji's self-confidence seems to have been buoyed by him managing to kill Ramiel with his second shot
A/N:
Some may call this an anticlimax, but it honestly couldn't have gone better for you. If Ramiel hadn't kwabbed his roll, Rei would have blocked the shot with her shield. Anyway, please discuss and critique. The rest of the turn will be up either later tonight or tomorrow.
