Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Point of correction:
Most of the inhabitants of our Hell will be human, with a prior history.
Devils and other supernaturals will be a minority, and its an option you actually have to buy with points when speccing the Hell.

And the devils will have a previous history too, the whole realm will, from the rocks to the animals to the civilization on it if we go for it.

The charm won't gives us a guilt free army and really shouldn't be thought of as a way to get one, Moly Carpenter, not random murdehobo number 154685132486.

Michael is in large part the human moral lodestone of the series.
And he's not just one man with a sword, he's a paladin with a Sword. He's killed a Dragon, and darker things. His dayjob is to contest Fallen Angels. Situations like Cleveland are more or less routine.

If he, and the people who give him direction, think there is no shame in prioritizing, and in leaving lesser evils be?
Its worth thinking twice about making broad moral judgements in-setting.
The people doing the prioritizing have 3 real agents in all the world.
And they do have personal beef with the Fallen.

Of course other evils fall on the wayside like that.

We can be better.
Charity doesnt teach some fights cant be won. Furthermore, what Leech did didnt actually solve the problem; Dyslexic Girl is still dyslexic, still isnt getting the help she needs, and now she could be in trouble when she doesnt perform to the standards of her tests. Indeed, this entire episode can be presented as evidence that she can work harder to get good grades.

Forging a person's academic records doesnt stop them being dyslexic.
The problem is still there, and the consequences for the victim have worsened.
In this case Leech only fixed the grade to what it would have been without bullying damaging the girls last english-project, if I read that correctly.

That means she bought valuable time in which dyslexic girl is not failing.

He grades have already gone up a bit with Leech's support and if we get some intervention against bullying going then other negative factors for her grades will dissapear to.

Leech did an absolutly good thing and as long as she doesn't get complacent with it she can use it as a stepstone to permanently improve the situation.

Charity doesnt teach some fights cant be won.
This was explicitely stated to be the lesson taught:
Leech did talk to Charity, she got some advice on how to deal with bullies without punching them as well as an offer to help find resources for dyslexia, but that is about as far as it goes. Charity does not make a habit of marching up to other people and telling them how to raise their kids or much less go to the cardinal over teachers failing a kid with an undiagnosed issue. You have to learn how to choose tour battles and there are way too many of the latter to pick all of them.
Not really a valid argument.
Dude has been staring at us with Auspex. He rolled 4 sux.
If we were channelling the magic of a Fallen Angel, he'd be able to tell.
We are channeling the powers that are a very weird mix of prototype successful Satan (Unconquered Sun is pretty much Lucifer Morningstar who succeeded in his rebellion), part "Old Testament God at his worst" (Malfeas), part "The father of lies, and the embodiment of betrayal" (we have Ebon Dragon as favored, even), all covered with layers and layers of modern eastern hells.

The metaphorical weight of our power should absolutely be on par, if not higher than anything not archangel grade. The "feel" of our power is demonic.

Yes, I can see how we would be mistaken for a denarian, especially if this elder hasn't encountered one before now.

That rather depends on what kind of hell we build. It's entirely possible to build one inhabited solely by devils. In my version, humans have plurality, but not >50% of population.

2)You might want to read that Interlude again.
I dont think thats accurate.
This isnt Winslow.

This is very illustrative and worthy of some attention, if anyone skipped it. Actually looking at how these things could play out is very good.
No Vicissitude at a quick look.

  • [X] Offer to wipe the files, you already have a good portion of the material just by knowing what's in them
-[X] HMP Sarah's computer before starting to wipe the files; spend no more than 1 essence on this, in order to avoid anima flair; use 1 willpower point for autosuccess.
-[X] STUNT: "Very well then, we shall help each other. I wlll dispose of the evidence you seek destroyed, and you will leave the mortal to me. I still have business with her before I have to depart" you say, as you make way to the other room, where you guess the computer is, making sure to be the first one to enter. A quick glance at the machine leaves it impregnated with a newly called devil.
    [X]Plan Crash Override
    -[X]Wipe the files
-[X]HMP Sarah's computer: 1m Essence + 1WP for autosux. Anima flare for surprise negation and to distract from HMP use -[X]Cyberdevil takes snapshot of computer, including all activity on it
-[X]Have Molly, with cyberdevil look through and delete relevant data as well as online backups
-[X]STUNT: "Indiscretion. Cant have that, of course." And if there's a little bitter amusement in your voice, you cant be sure at what. "Her life is still not your Court's to take. But I will attempt to disarm her of the weapon she wields." You walk, still in mid air towards the the home computer, which is already powered on. Pulling out the keyboard, you pause and talk over your shoulder."If you have enhanced...senses, looking too closely at what Im about to do is at your own peril." And as you type into the keyboard you call up another of your little helpers, with your many eyed anima banner unfolding around you like a malign flower.
[X] Kill the elder vampire, he's too dangerous to let live
-[X] Activate Melee Excellency and Viridian Legend Exoskeleton (both reflexive, 2 Essence cost)
-[X] (Stunt) This is a much bigger deal than you could possibly have hoped for, but in the immediate moment it is still more important to prevent the Vampires from killing another human, now or tomorrow. As the light of your soul fills the room and your armor begins to surround you, you kick a chair in the elder vampires direction, not even hoping for any direct effect, but maybe to keep his eyes of the sword that appeared in your hand a fraction of a second longer while you charge.
[x] Offer to wipe off the evidence of Raith crimes off all of Agent Green's devices
-[x]... and keep a copy (Roll opposed Charisma+Subterfuge vs the Elder's Auspex ???)
[X] Kill the elder vampire, he's too dangerous to let live
[X] Introduce yourself properly, this charade has run its course

No Vicissitude at a quick look.
No, that seems more like a Red or Black Court trick than something from a White Vampire.

I guess the Horrid Form would be a very noticable boost.
More damage for sure.

But still, his first reaction was to go for his gun, not to grow claws, so I would put that in round two at the earliest, when he realizes that he needs more raw strenght to bring us down.

Worst case we can match that action by spending the round going Shintai.

Arc 5 Post 18: Shadow Game
Shadow Game

8th of September 2006 A.D.

Things would be so much easier if the monsters weren't so fond of talking, the glib thought passes through your mind on gilded wings only to be swallowed by a sea of amorphous guilt. It's not just that they are talking, it's not just that you didn't find them ankle deep in blood like Katrina, the girl honestly doesn't think she is doing anything wrong. Is this how Thomas killed his first victim? He must have been a brainwashed once... For his part the elder had protected the girl, by all that you can see, and you can see a lot, sincerely. Somehow the notion that it's OK for monsters to walk around doing the whims of other monsters so long as they have families does not sit well with you not in the least, but if you are going to change things... you need to look before you cut.

"Very well then, we shall help each other. I will dispose of the evidence you seek destroyed, and you will leave the mortal to me. I still have business with her before I have to depart" you say, as you make way into the bedroom, white other than the orange splash of the double bed, there are stuffed penguins on it. Somehow making it past those judging glassy eyes leaves you more uneasy than flying through the bedroom had.

For his part the elder vampire does not seem concerned with violating privacy and the younger is eyeing the plushy collection like she is contemplating absconding with one.

Though you consider asking them to wait in the living room in the end you cannot think of any way to do so without looking even more suspicious than what they are about to see. Looking into the black glass of the darkened screen you reach into the ever-present static of the Wicked City and bridge by will and Essence the gap between ethereal and material.

"You have techno-magic! Hella cool!" Sitha gushes.

"Our errand is not so urgent as to require a summoning in haste bodhisattva," the elder hisses urgently.

"It was not in haste, but in truth delayed," you give the answer prepared on the tip of your tongue. "I have found that when one has the need of such beings it is best to draw them from the sanctuary of one's soul than through long chants and ritual invoke them on the spot."

Every single word of that is true and all of them in service to a lie. Thankfully one that seems to have been believed to judge from the elder's reaction. He seems impressed, as well he should, keeping even minor demons suspended pact wrought chains to one's soul would be the mark of practice long as it is skilled among those who escaped Yomi Wan, according to Usum. I would think they would be more cautious, but what do I know, I'm not an undead demonologist , just very good at impersonating one

The girl just looks confused, though not quite bold enough to speak up.

"Be weary for small demons might the greater draw, there have been worrying rumors of late...." the elder peers at you expectantly, as though anticipating that you know something of these rumors.

Darn it, was that why he wasn't surprised to see a 'bodhisattva' in Chicago?

What do you do?

[] Admit you do not know what he's talking about

[] Try to draw out more clues without admitting ignorance (DC 8 Charisma+Subterfuge roll)

[] Write in

OOC: And so the plot thickens.

How about this

[] - noncommitialy respond, but don't go fishing for more. Better to stay mum and not give away our ignorance. When he's not so focused on us ask the crown, otherwise we can look into this ourselves later.

But we do? It's obvious that he's talking about Molly. Like, what else could the rumors be about?

I don't... think Molly's summoned enough demons to alarm the greater supernatural community yet? Unless making that godling tripped enough wires to make people think something big got summoned. So it's probably not her?

Is dc 8 before or after applying BSM? Anyway, it should be 12-14 dice with excellency... Except using excellency would be our 4th dot of Essence spent in a scene, meaning Anima flare, meaning subtlety goes out of the window. Rolling 6-8 dice at difficulty 8 (or even 7) is unlikely to give us legendary success, but at least we shouldn't botch (Subterfuge is a key ability, if I understand correctly, so 1s don't substrate successes).

Same issue with using the Crown, really. I think admitting ignorance here is the best, but if we are still playing an elder, it's almost expected that we'll try to get information without admitting ignorance.

No, I meant that the "greater demon" the elder is vary of attracting is Molly. Or maybe Molly's shintai.

Vampire Elder Nega-Quest
You could, but you would have to target the elder himself and he currently has his magical senses pointed right at you. There is a risk he might notice.

Negaquest update:

"QM" said:
Suddenly, all the eyes in her aura turns towards you, searching, watching.

You feel as if you were just dissected and all your secrets laid bare before this being.

What do you do?

" Threedged whip" said:
Well, we're fucked, who decided that it was a good idea to stay in front of the very powerful hell undead again?

"Goy" said:
It still feels as if there's something strange there, I searched, and her powers don't seem to align.

I think it's a case of mistaken identity and the girl is milking it for all it's worth.

"Nyarukochan" said:
Again with your "this is not a Wuan Kei elder, she knows too much about technology" hypothesis?

We already told you, she could have learned, and who do you want it to be? Inari Raith? Molly Carpenter? Maggie Dresden? Hell, why not even propose that she's Mab?

Her aura was described as *you feel the thousand hells as if you were there, her aura is asking you to grovel, to beg, to prostern yourself. You feel the cold of Kakuri and see the shadow of a dragon before your eyes, highlighted by a green sun*

No way that's not someone who escaped from one of the thousand hells.

"JuJ23" said:
I guess this is one more reason in the *do not fight her* pile, seriously, between the aura that the QM said we were lucky we were playing an elder to resist, the whatever she did to our niece to calm her hunger, the casual flying, and now that, I don't think she's anything we can take on, leave me a little time, I'll write a plan.

No need to reveal our ignorance here or to give away unnecessary tidbits of information.

How does the old proverb go, "Better to remain silent and be thought of as fool than to open your mouth and prove it"? We have nothing to gain from continuing this particular thread of conversation with him.

[X] Ignore the elder Whampire's prodding and continue extracting the information from Sarah's computer.

[] Admit you do not know what he's talking about
-[]Stunt: Rolling your eyes you reply "There are always worrying rumors. Which are you referring to?"
Every single word of that is true and all of them in service to a lie, thankfully one that seems to have been believed to judge from the elder's reaction. He seems impressed, as well he should, keeping even minor demons suspected pact wrought chants to one's soul would be the mark of practice long as it is skilled. Usum calls it a respected art among those who escaped Yomi Wan. I would think they would be more cautious, but what do I know, I'm not an undead demonologist, just very good at impersonating one
I think this paragraph may have missed an editing pass or two.

[X] Admit you do not know what he's talking about
-[X] Trade the information for introduction.

-[X] STUNT: You do not turn, continuing to search for and erase the data from the computer, even as you answer him, keeping to your role, for now: "Manifold are whispers one can hear across four corners of the world, if one has ears to listen, and plentiful are those that would make the wise weary. Which ones have your attention? Tell me, and in exchange I shall share with you a truth that will put your mind at ease"

The last part and the proposed truth we'll share is our name. Because in the end I agree, we aren't walking out of this without introductions or a fight to the death.
