Something Wicked (Villainous Magical Boy Quest)

Assuming that there are people actively searching Japanese high schools for alien infiltrators, which is a bit of a stretch

I mean one or two High Schoolers going around in a broken arm it's fine for the MG's to know, but all of them knowing a different guy with a broken arm is a bit of strech and weird for the average person and if one disguises gets compromised for one of the girls...

At least I hope we can wait a bit to resolve the crystal arm thing before getting a new disguise Akira already seemed to notice something weird with the illusion. Or create a disguise that the MG's wont know of

Each scene with Zaiyu and one of the magical girls is very, very enjoyable. I look forward to the next update when he'll share the stage with four of them. Plus Sasori.

Well nice to see our mc is as interesting as usual. It would be hilarious if the combined magic blast at the protag and it did zero. This new girl seems to have more raw magic then the last one. No need to worry we can curb stomp them now. Akira is going up in the girl i want to end up with the mc category. Akira if people saw you with this man, they would thing there with them. I vote for excitement. Never voting for poly sorry. Subject the magical girls into being our henchmen.

[X] INVESTIGATE.

From the players' perspective...one person made a joke about Zaiyu having independent romantic relationships with all the magical girls' civilian identities and a lot of people thought that would be funny.

I think that idea evolved through some comments. It was initially joking to have a disguise for each of the magical girls, befriending all of them. There was some talk about shuffling around to reduce the risk of falling for one in specific, and I think I was the first to explicitly joke about a romantic relationship with each magical girl for our various disguises.

You know you've made it when your thread has to explain the history of its in-jokes. 😇

I'm a bit squeamish about that, but only because Sasori is literally, mentally speaking, a child right now and Zaiyu is acting as his adopted father.
sort of.
If he grows up a heck of a lot in the next 10 to 20 chapters, I'm okay with revisiting this discussion then.

Let me just cut in here quickly with some assurance and an explanation. Sasori is very inexperienced right now, but he's not childish. You'll get more information when you study Sasori more closely, but his species does not have a 'child' stage, they hatch as inexperienced adults. Trying to start something with him now would still be kinda dodgy, but that's because he lacks the experience and knowledge of the world around him to make well-reasoned choices and because he's reliant on Zaiyu to survive. There is an inherent inequality to their current relationship, but it's not a parent-child one. Which is good, because Zaiyu isn't shaping up to be the best guardian so far.

TLDR, mental age is kind of a dodgy topic IRL so I am simply not touching that. There are definitely reasons to argue that trying to romance Sasori is a questionable decision, but that's not one of them.

Can we not just message our captain and ask him to teleport Sasori back to the moon so he can have a bit of a breather while Zaiyu checks out who's magic awakened?

(Of course, Zaiyu will be explaining this to Sasori quickly beforehand - better yet, Zaiyu asks Sasori if he's prefer to go with Zaiyu here or have a lift to the moon to decompress)

I think we dont, we choose to investigate we will probably take Sasori along. Its one of the consequences of choosing it alongside the previous one of talking with Akira and leaving Sasori to feel left out.

If we wanted to focus on Sasori thats what the other two options are for: Return, or continue shopping.

Age aside, I don't see any interpretation of a master/familiar relationship which doesn't make it a more fucked-up version of boss/subordinate relationships. Especially since in Sasori's case, he would mana-starve without Zaiyu's master/familiar bond. With all of that, I'm not sure Sasori can meaningfully consent to...erm...stuff.

That's the sense I get, too. I'm not sure why sending Sasori home first isn't an option, but it doesn't seem to be one.

Ugh. I really want to go back to the ship to avoid stressing Sasori more, but I'm too interested in what happened.

After further consideration, I have changed my mind about which vote is the most appropriate. While our duties demand that we investigate any new instances of magic in our immediate vicinity, we can always conduct the investigation later, especially with Akira as a lead. Furthermore, given the circumstances, I think it is safe to assume that the newly awakened magical girl is no threat to Akira specifically or the public generally.

On the other hand, we have a powerful duty to protect Sasori and look after not only his physical health but also his mental health. While we may not be acting in loco parentis with respect to him, he is currently very vulnerable on account of his lack of experience, and we're probably the only person who can help him. I would suggest that stabilizing his condition and making it clear that our regard for his welfare plays a key role in our decisions is more important than going after a lead that we can find at another time.

For that reason, I am changing my vote to the following:

[X] MORE SHOPPING

[X] MORE SHOPPING

I prefer this option. Even leaving aside the potential for exposure we might experience by trying to investigate this.
Like, there is a human with magical potential *right there*, so by the laws of anime, they'll notice us disappearing and we don't want to associate a disguise with investigating magical mishaps.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that if one of our disguises gets burnt (needs to be discarded) because someone gets a little too interested in what we might know about "local earthquake causer", that in the Grand scheme it's not devastating for us.
But like... I don't want that?
Zaiyu currently has an interesting dynamic with one of the main characters as *cute student - maybe new transfer student*. Which is a tried and true trope.

Not to mention, Sasori has already indicated he's feeling lonely and a bit on edge, and until we better understand his mentality and abilities, I'm not interested in exposing him to a violent magical girl awakening.
So... let's play the waiting game and look after our familiar dude.

With regard to this point specifically: It's going to be easier to understand what just happened if we investigate minutes later than days later, no matter what leads we may or may not have. That's the nature of investigation; clues fade or get trampled, people of interest slip out of sight, trails grow cold. Investigating now means we'll find out more, more easily, than if we try to look for clues in a couple days (or even tomorrow).

Plus...unless something really bad happens, we should be able to shop after investigating. And if something bad does happen, Zaiyu would benefit from observing it directly. (It's easier to understand what just happened if we saw it than if we investigate minutes later.)
