Something Wicked (Villainous Magical Boy Quest)

I hope it's her but at same time I want to see a different magical girl for the elemental affinity

Now to be fair, we don't have any reason to think any of the other magical girls have even awakened their affinity yet: Kyoko was an odd case, remember. Tomoe herself only awakened her magical powers when she... You know, made contact with an Estil device specifically modified to be compatible with her. Now, I suppose it's not impossible for Tomoe to be handing them out like candy to people she's interested in, but for now we can probably assume that most of the magical girls do not have any affinity yet.

There are like two slots you know? We could easily go arcade and furniture. Pretty much anything is better than clothes Zaiyu is mostly going to hide under illusions.
While you are probably correct, that Zaiyu would likely hide any human bought clothes under illusions, trying out different styles and looks, not to mention getting a closer look at clothing is not a bad idea for someone who wants to make more realistic illusions. Like, seeing the way clothes fall naturally on your body can be a huge improvement for making convincing (potentially tactile) illusions of clothing and at the very least may make emergency appearance swapping easier in the future.
Not to mention, Zaiyu seems... a little bit vain, so the chance to enjoy trying on different clothes can also be fairly therapeutic (not that those two things are directly correlated, but eh...).

And then by the time you've caught up, you're swept up in the action, by which you mean: the protagonist's best friend and her childhood rival have both declared their intention to court her, and she can only choose one of them.

Why she can only choose one of them is unclear. You don't think it's stated anywhere in the book. But maybe it's in the sequel, you think optimistically, and pull volume 2 off the shelf.

Okay, it's not in volume 2, which ends up being focused around the protagonist getting cold feet right after she almost chose a boy. But surely volume 3 will explain this major but completely unexamined plot point.
Romance stories are weird.

"So, I still don't know where the triangles come in, but a soap opera appears to be some kind of… very melodramatic production where things happen just for drama."
[...]
"It's… a space opera?" he guesses, glancing at the back cover. "Yes. An epic space opera. A science fiction classic for the ages."
I hope we get to hear the aliens speculate about what an "opera" is.

I'm torn between Charms+Accessorize (they seem like they'd go together well), Fashion+Noise (maximum shenanigans), or Furniture+Charms (actually accomplishing goals). Approval voting to the rescue?

There will be time for furniture and clothes later.

Think we're going to deal with a human tsundere magical girl sometime?

The possibility for tsundere interactions exists! But as this is a pre-Madoka magical girl quest, I haven't crafted any of the main girls with a modern tsundere archetype in mind. Tsundere is likely to be something they do, not something they are. In other words, if someone is acting like a tsundere, something is probably wrong. Rumiko Takahashi's tsundere are iconic, but those girls tend to be dysfunctional in love because they either have extensive issues with emotional intimacy (Akane), are under a ton of pressure (Kagome and Sango), or are perpetually frustrated with the general immaturity of the guy they like (Shinobu and, to an extent, Lum).

Of course, sometimes characters just end up with relationships full of bickering and teasing. And I like writing banter.

[X] WAIT, WEREN'T WE GETTING FURNITURE?

[X] INVESTIGATE THE NOISE

Tempting as it is to keep missing Starspite's point, let's at least risk total secrecy first.
