Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

While spying is good, and fighting is good. I'm frankly leaning more towards accounting.

It's boring and not really something we're skilled or interested in. Even it is a waste of his talents.

And by God is it a waste of his talents.

[X] As a spy, there are a lot of things you would like to find out about the White Court, many of which they would rather keep a secret, assuming that role should be more than enough to satisfy the requirements of true and loyal service

I like this, it's basically the minimum while giving us access to yet more of the most important currency of the supernatural world: information. And it's also a good early warning system for if the White Court is going to try anything because of us recruiting their dregs in Undertown. Or because of our encounter at the car auction. Or… well, if they try anything, Thomas can let us know ahead of time.

Although, another thing we can ask, although it won't be as easily full-time as the spying, is seeing if he knows about a good legal way to turn our superhuman crafting abilities into cash. The White Court as a whole is probably pretty well connected into the market that sells superhumanly good works of craftsmanship, since it's the kind of expensive status symbol that only people connected to the supernatural world can really access. He might be able to find us a good broker.

But anyway, the reason that the spy option is good is that he doesn't really have to change much, since a spy is supposed to keep cover and pretend that they're not a spy, anyway. He just has to contact us when he finds out something that we would want to know, and then the rest of the time he's still technically actively serving by maintaining his cover. Relatively low burden while satisfying the requirements and still being a high-value minion for us. Best of all worlds, really.

[X] write in: As an bodyguard of sorts for Harry. Until Harry agrees to let us pay him back properly.

Let's kill two birds with one stone.

[X] As an financial agent, not that he has much experience in such matters, but 'not much' is still more than your none

Or this works as well. He was able to run a successful hair salon after all. We will find plenty of muscle in other places.

[X] As an armsman of sorts, a martial adjunct. You have already seen how skilled Thomas could be against the Winter Court, he can cover this service as him doing favors to Harry

The White Court will gun for us when they hear that we are recruiting the dispossessed en mass. This might save us, and will definately save some of our new minions. Besides, He's already esentially doing this. Just alone instead of for a group. This way, he has back up.

[X] write in: As an bodyguard of sorts for Harry. You have already seen how skilled Thomas is and with Harry getting into trouble as often as he does, more back up will not hurt.
Something almost like this:
[X] As an aide of sorts, for Harry. Despite your new powers, Harry still mostly thinks of you as his friend's mostly helpless daughter. If Thomas can convince Harry that it's ok to get help from you, including monetary payments, and would be helpful to Harry on his own, that'd be great.
[X] As a researcher. If you are to truly help Thomas and his breathren, while probably coming in conflict with other white court vampires, you'll need to know much more of their condition than you do now. And there should be none who know more of the origins of white court, the true nature of their hunger, past attempts to affect it, than white court members themselves. He could look into such records for you.

Spy seems interesting. We have already drawn the White Court's attention, and we likely will even more from dealing with under town.

Funny idea, but could we use "Deep cover spy" as an excuse to let anyone we want to live a normal life? As long as they are theoretically willing to do whatever we want when we call on them, and maybe occasionally send us reports it doesn't matter if they are a bank manager or a burger flipper. It's all in service of keeping their cover, and thus serving us. Because who knows when we might need someone right where they are. Getting reports on a broad cross-section of society has a value of it's own too. Our very own information network.

Yog has a good idea here

Spy is a very dangerous role, not a slight ask like some others suggest.

The simplest way to "let them live their normal lives" would be to mandate church tithe (or some other regular donation). As long as they make monthly donations, they are following your will.

Researcher is valid, though it should be noted it would put him in a bit of risk, not as much as spy, but this klnd of deep lore is basically state secrets to the White Court

COMMENTARY
-Interesting. I didnt realize Molly could sense when MiS started working on someone.
-Poor Thomas is getting whipsawed.
-Interesting comment about changing a demon's nature. I wonder if VEE could do it.
Thats something else to add to the list of things we need to look into

"You are not planning to keep this a secret are you?" he finally asks, voice soft with some unnameable emotion caught in a three way pull of yearning, fear and sorrow.
Yeah. This will cause a fair bit of political upheaval inside the White Court when it gets out, as it will.
That particular clock starts ticking as soon as Molly descends into Undertown again.

I mean, if she uses MiS on any renegade Whites down there, it looks like she's putting together a force/faction of dispossessed and renegade Whamps and ghouls for some unknown reason, right here in Chicago.
It is going to come off as a potential threat, one that must be responded to one way or the other.

And that doesnt count whatever ambitious idiots in House Skavis or Malvora who decide that it sounds like a dandy idea to get control of Molly in order for her to use that power at their command. I say Skavis or Malvora because Im reasonably sure Lara is too smart to let House Raith risk it.

Which doesnt prevent a House Raith affiliate from trying, mind.
We are probably going to have to seek an advance meeting with Lara to attempt to spike any misunderstandings early.
Politics. Fun.

-Using him as a spy puts him at risk. OOC Dresden doesnt use him as a spy.
Its generally a bad idea to use a person as a spy against their family, especially when they have tangled loyalties.

And while he detests his father, he has complicated feelings about the rest of his family. He actually still loves his sisters, and them him. Lara kicked him out of the house to save face, but still gives him orders as head of the family, and twice has gone to significant lengths to try to save his life.

-We dont need a martial adjunct.
And frankly, there's no way to do that and remain lowkey.

-Which leaves financial.
He is a successful small business owner, which means he has at least a basic grasp of finance and how money works.
And importantly, he has financial connections, and knows who to talk to.

Outstanding rolls for the most part.
Poor Thomas just had everything he wanted given to him - and then yanked out again.
No mercy, lol
ALMOST everything.
The thing he'd want most, which would be bane immunity, would require VEE.

You dont hire bodyguards for an adult without their knowledge or assent.
Thats a degree of high handedness thats very similar to the points of friction between Molly and Charity, and Dresden is a 31 year old man, not a 17 year old teenager.

Furthermore, Dresden is a military commander for the White Council, while the White Court of vampires are in theory allied to the Red Court, even thouh they are noncombatants in the War.
Having Thomas as bodyguard instead of occasional covert ally causes both of them problems.

Er, how about this?
[] You could use a right hand so to speak. You've got a lot of well, things, up in the air and he could at least assist where you need it when you need it. Think of it like a majordomo? Because by simple virtue of your power you're going to keep doing things that create a kingdom.
-[] Also, you'll probably need someone good at covering you when you accidentally demon goddess things.
Note that he said:
Ah if only my own demon was inclined to talk, at least then I could make more sense of its wants..." Thomas shakes his head, perfectly messy curls flying this way and that around his shoulders. "I do not suppose you have any use for the Black Sheep of House Raith, one that is not too obvious from the outside?" He says is so casually, but you can read the tension in the line of his jaw, the fear behind his eyes. "I have someone I need to protect, from myself among other dangers..." he trails off. "Someone mad enough to love me." The words barely come out.
Thomas Raith might be publicly the black sheep of the Raiths, but he's still publicly known as the White King's only living son.
His secret lover is Lara Raith's secretary. He's a significant political factor even as he tries to dodge politics.

There's a shitton of things he cannot do without consequences.
One of those is being the major domo and political agent for a new Power, especially one that looks to potentially be recruiting amongst disaffected Whites; its going to force a reaction from the White Court to the perceived loss of face.

Either the other Whampire Houses will react to the perceived weakness of House Raith by trying to overthrow them, or House Raith will be forced to act against him and potentially us to save face. Either option leads to blood in the streets.

Its essentially the same as spy, just with a focus on magic, biology and history, instead of current politics.
And the White Court would probably treat it much the same way.
