Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Dresdenverse mages are more limited in the total scale of effects they can create, like Harry is at the upper end of what wizards can do in terms of raw power, what he lacks vs the Senior council is versatility and finesse (the Blaksstaff of course has more power, but that is because of the ancient artifact).

Sudden realization:
Proven Guilty c8 said:
Molly Carpenter appeared and opened the door for us.
The last time I'd seen Molly, she'd been an awkward adolescent, all skinny legs, bright-eyed interest, and hesitation of movement offset by an appealing personal confidence and frequent smiles and laughter. But that had been years ago.
Since then, Molly had gotten all growed up.
She strongly favored her mother, Charity. Both of them were tall for women, only an inch or two under six feet, both of them blond, fair, blue-eyed, and both of them built like the proverbial brick house, somehow managing to combine strength, grace, and beauty that showed as much in their bearing, expression, and movement as it did in their appearance. Charity was a rose wrought of stainless steel. Molly could have been her younger self.
Of course, I doubted Charity had ever worn an outfit like Molly's.
Molly stood facing me in a long, gauzy black skirt, shredded artistically in several places. She wore fishnet tights beneath it, showing more leg and hip than any mother would prefer. The tights, too, were artfully torn in patches to display pale, smooth skin of thigh and calf. She had army-surplus combat boots on her feet, laced up with neon pink and blue laces. She wore a tight tank top, its fabric white, thin, and strained by the curves of her breasts, and a short black bolero jacket bearing a huge, gaudy button printed with the logo "SPLATTERCON!!!" in dripping red letters. Black leather gloves covered her hands.
But wait, that's not all.
Her blond hair had been dyed, parti-colored, one half of her head bubblegum pink, the other sky blue, and it had been cut at a uniform length that ended just below her chin and left most of her face covered by a close veil of hair. She wore a lot of makeup; way too much eye liner and mascara, and black lipstick colored her mouth. Bright rings of gold gleamed in both nostrils, her lower lip, and her right eyebrow, and there was a bead of gold in that little dent just under her lower lip. There were miniature barbell-shaped bulges at the tips of her breasts, where the thin fabric emphasized rather than concealed them.
I didn't want to know what else had been pierced. I know I didn't, because I told myself that very sternly. I didn't want to know, even if it was, hell, a little intriguing.
But wait, that's still not all.
She had a tattoo on the left side of her neck in the shape of a slithering serpent, and I could see the barbs and curves of some kind of tribal design flickering out from the neckline of her tank top. Another design, whirling loops and spirals, covered the back of her right hand and vanished up under the sleeve of the jacket.
She watched me with one eyebrow arched, waiting for me to react. Her posture and expression both made the effort to say that she was way too cool to care what I thought, but I could practically taste the uncertainty she was working to hide, and her anxiety.
"Long time, no see," I said, finally.
"Hello, Harry," she replied. The words came out a little thick, and I saw more gold flash near the tip of her tongue.
Of course.
"It's odd," I said. "From here, it doesn't look like you're in jail at all."
"I know," she said. She managed to keep her voice mostly steady, but her face and throat colored pink in a guilty flush. She shifted her weight restlessly, and an odd clicking sound came from her mouth. Good grief. She'd picked up a tic of rattling her tongue piercing against her teeth when she was nervous. "Urn. I should apologize, I guess. Uh…"
The year is 2006, and she is seventeen year old.
Panic at the Disco released their debut in 2005. Fallout Boy released their second album in 2005. My Chemical Romance released The Black Parade in April 2006; Paramore release their debut album in 2007.

Molly is an emo kid. Grew up as emo went mainstream.
Explains the fashionsense, the black clothes and fingerless gloves, the colored hair and heavy black makeup and tattoos.
I suspect most of her group of friends pre-Splattercon, including Rosanna, Nelson and the dead guy, were emo kids.

Once you realize she was an emo kid in the mid 2000s, a lot of things fall into place.

Arc 3 Post 19: Against the Prince of Chaos
Against the Prince of Chaos

25st of July 2006 A.D.

They were further along than we thought were your first, oddly calm thoughts as the naggingly familiar monster began to swarm across the floor towards your party. Explains why the Reds were stalling.Wish I'd remembered to bring some cold iron. "Wall the door, Lydia" you bark as you aboutface, letting your father past you at notWolverine as you settle into a stabler stance, the bruising of your shoulder all but forgotten. "Then you and Dad join me if you can." Your full regard settles like a weight on the approaching enemy, mental defenses shedding its aura like water. Your voice is at a normal volume, almost conversational, but somehow you feel everyone in the building can hear your next words as, for a moment the green of your anima spills backward into your eyes. "You should not have left your prison, Old One."

You lose 2 Willpower and 2 Essence -> Now at 4/12 Essence and 5/9 Willpower

"I can't... I can't make walls, just a wave!" Lydia shouts, her voice distant over the all-consuming sound of the water bearing harder. faster on the tile floor. One shot than another sound, the first sparking off silver knuckles, the second passing through her hoodie only to strike something considerably more solid underneath, a parting gift from her father maybe.

As the light fades leaving you at once transformed and more yourself than you have ever been it also turns you. Like a compass needle seeking north you had turned to face the thing.

A hundred eyes, facets of a greater presence open wider in the flash of verdant light, a hundred misshapen mouths slash open to spew out a wave of noxious blue grey substance, mist or liquid, or something in between you could not say, but it saps the will and draws the soul into slumber from which none shall ever wake.

You take 1 Temporary Willpower Damage -> now at 4/9 Temp Willpower

Slashing high and stabbing low, you weave though the glistening tentacles with uncanny grace and ever growing insight. True not every blow finds its mark, but the stroke that does not land opens the way for three more that do. For the first time since Arcrtis Tor you encounter something able to parry your flames without being consumed and you are shocked, or at least the 'you' that is Molly Carpenter is shocked, an older deeper knowing nods with grim resolve as you mark well the chthonian armor, where it is and where it its not.

The thing bleeds, not red blood but gouts of silver that fly into the air and then curl upon themselves as though disdaining the touch of mundane gravity.

At your back you can hear dad's voice call out a prayer of battle, clear and unyielding:

Saint Michael,
defend us in battle
that we might not perish
at the dreadful judgment

Then the sound of strife close up again, of rage and pain and disbelief, through eyes of spirit you can see a swarm of black tears in the world like knives fly from the 'doctor' all aimed at Lydia only fade like smoke before a high breeze. The two guards had fallen already, one slumped against a wall trailing blood upon it, the other clutching a wound in his leg, but the sorcerer has the worst of it. As he steps forth so sure of his power that he does not even run Lydia kicks him in the chest so hard she shatters his rib-cage like an overripe fruit, his broken body falling among the rubble.

"It breathes hunger, it breathes want!" you call back at them, not even questioning how the thing is able to breathe abstract concepts. Of course a rashka can do that.

You take your own advice and fling yourself backwards supported on the threads of purest will, turning heels over head to avoid the mist until.... There. You feel the ceiling under your feet and you lunge at the thing in a flurry of flaming blows, carving through flesh and armor alike, Essence and Name.

The creature, the rashka folds back on itself, unconstrained by the dimensions of the world it had briefly impinged upon and then it is gone... leaving you floating in mid air in some kind of techno-sorcerous torture chamber for the elderly with five unconscious guards... and one very dead sorcerer in pieces.

"I... I thought he would be as tough as the other ones." Lydia sounds upset, but far from devastated. You can relate, but what are you going to do with this mess

Lydia is at 0/5 Essence

The silvery stuff of improbable possibility still floats around the room like those videos from the International Space Station with water in zero G and the more you look at them the more ideas you have.

You gain 2 Essence -> Now at 6/12 Essence

What do you do?

[] Get the victims out of here ASAP

[] Dad and Lydia can deal with the rest of the cultists, you can unhook these people from the apparatus

[] Write in

OOC: Well that poor Rashka did not get to show off all his uncanny powers, but yes among other things he had armor that could soak Agg (though only the armor could do that) and a breath weapon that you can dodge, but not parry that did temp willpower damage not as emotion altering UMI, but as shaping that literally wore away the soul like water on stone.

It's the Molly thing to do.

[X] Get the victims out of here ASAP

Dresdenverse mages are more limited in the total scale of effects they can create, like Harry is at the upper end of what wizards can do in terms of raw power, what he lacks vs the Senior council is versatility and finesse (the Blaksstaff of course has more power, but that is because of the ancient artifact).
Two points:
1)The Blackstaff doesnt add power as far as we know.
Its primary function is to shield the user from the mental consequences of black magic. It may have other functions, but I dont know if those are available to wizards as opposed to the original owner.

Note that Ebenezar only calls on it when he has to break a Law; he doesnt need it otherwise. He has a normal staff.

2)Not entirely true. Top 50 living wizards(not sure if North America or worldwide) for pure power yes.
But a lot of what wizards can do is ritual and preparation, and that can scale a lot higher than instant magic.
See Demonreach, which has a self-destruct that can allegedly take out North America. Merlin allegedly built it.

Against the Prince of Chaos
@DragonParadox
QUESTIONS
1)Do we recognize the sorcerer? Was it Niemi, or is Niemi elsewhere in the building?
2)Can we use the tank as a focus for Iku Turso? To figure out whether the prison/where he was banished to needs reinforcing?
3)Doesnt this battle qualify for a 1 WP gain? Acting to strongly support or affirm an Intimacy, in this case her Michael intimacy?

  1. Even if it did give him more power for its intended purpose he would not wave it around willy-nilly because it use has some sort of cost and the fact that he has the Blackstaff is a secret
  2. I was talking strictly in terms of what a wizard can bring to battle

  1. It was not him
  2. Yes you can use it for that purpose
  3. The battle does not but freeing those people would since that is why Michael fights, to protect the innocent

Should be five.
The initial response was two gunmen and labcoat. With another three gunmen approaching behind them.

  2. I was talking strictly in terms of what a wizard can bring to battle
1)Fair. Im not sure how much of a secret it actually is, instead of being one of those things people just dont talk about.
I mean, everyone of consequence seems to know damn well who he is. From random mercs like Kincaid to the Red Court.
Dresden didnt know, but Dresden was basically a baby wizard. Still is, for all his combat experience.

2)Ah. Fair enough.
  1. It was not him
  2. Yes you can use it for that purpose
  3. The battle does not but freeing those people would since that is why Michael fights, to protect the innocent
1)Okay. Potentially another battle ahead.
2)Excellent.
3)Fine. Pity we're in Shintai, which means we shouldnt actually do that, and leave it to the more normal-looking people.

When freeing the prisoners, we have to preface anything we say with "be not afraid". I insist. And if Uriel wants to berate us for copyright infringement later, he damn well can do it to our face.
Especially appropriate if we're still floating in the air when we do so
We managed to talk a little girl down from a panic while glowing eerily green. It's not much of a hindrance.
In my opinion, there's a slight difference between "I look like a normal girl, just limned in green fire with eyes," and "I look like a hellknight with green fire and eyes". One is uncanny, possibly scary, the other might give senior citizens a heart attack.
Thats a possibility we accepted when we chose this form.

They have been exposed to hellish nightmares as part of a feeding raksha op.
Trying to avoid making it worse is something to consider.

Oh... damn. She is actually out until midnight then.
Nah.
If she's using the same rules, there's a good chance she can regen Essence by doing her nature. She killed a sorcerer; if she does whatever the appropriate rites are for him, thats 2 Essence.

And she would regain at least 1 Essence at the beginning of any scene where she had no Essence at all.

Oh, if the sorcerer wasn't Dr. Niemi, I think we might need to leave the victims where they are for another few minutes and keep clearing out the basement while our Shintai is active.

I need to go run some errands, so I'll be back in an hour or two.

Meantime, I'll note what we need to do in order of importance, in case someone is willing to write up a plan and stunt in the meantime
-Crown of Eyes on tank to figure out Iku Turso' and if/how to strengthen the locks on his prison
-Crown of Eyes on either the dead sorcerer or one of the gunmen to identify the membership and goals of this Pathfinder cell
-Tool Constructs to loot gossamer/Raksha blood.
-Cyberdevil we put in the internal phone network to see if it allows them access to the home's internal network to continue hacking

If anyone has any other suggestions, lemme know.

-Crown of Eyes on tank to figure out Iku Turso' and if/how to strengthen the locks on his prison
I rather think we have to go for the kill, lest the history repeats itself. This is not the only cult branch, from the looks of it. As long as their patron survives, this will happen again.

Also, preventing stuff like self-destructs (if there are any), and not giving time for other cultists to either flee or set up any ritual magic.

I'll try for the vote in a moment. And yes, I will be stunting "be not afraid". You can't stop me. It's too appropriate IC and OOC.

EDIT:
@DragonParadox just to confirm "get the victims out ASAP" is the vote to help both the cultists and the elderly, while the "Dad and Lydia can deal with the rest of the cultists, you can unhook these people from the apparatus" option has Molly focusing on the elderly people trapped in the machine? Or what's the difference?
