Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Loling at Molly's horror at realizing how much she looks like her Mom
Time to double down on multicolor hair dye and nails :V
"Careful, there's something messing with out heads," you whisper as you flex a by now familiar mental muscle and raise all about you a mental fortress.
Lose 1 Essence -> Now at 11/12
If she'd spent 1WP instead to activate IPM, it would have saved her a point of Essence.
9 WP receptionist?
That gives us some idea of what kind of buffs this place is providing.
Somewhere along the order of +4, +5.

Changed IPP to willpower since that does make tactical sense, you can do more with Essence than Temp Willpower.

She might also be less human than she looks, even if she started out vanilla. Someone who made a lot of deals for better willpower or something.

There's probably some sort of static defenses, but always on +4-5 boosts to stuff like willpower seems a bit wasteful energy wise.

Possible, yeah.

But we're getting a definite vibe of area wide buffs for dice rolls that pursue particular goals.
So dont think of it as a boost to just willpower, but a boost to social activity in the building.
They built the place from scratch. They could afford to lay those kinds of buffs in the very foundation of the building.

I mean, just looking at Google? Its apparently an average of 22 million dollars to build a 100-room three star hotel in the US, with upper borders in the 60 million dollar range, not counting the actual land costs. Eyeballing everything, at least fifty milliom dollars have been spent on this entire project just to set this place up.

By the time you throw in stuff like a property-wide magical perceptual filters?
We're at the point where reasonable cost considerations went out of the window a long time ago.

I dont have a strong opinion, but if I had to choose

Because Molly bears the Crown of Eyes.
And is sworn not to make mistakes because she was ignorant or failed to seek out knowledge.
Also, Dex 4 + Subterfuge 3 is a dice pool of 7. 9 with a stunt.

She is pretty good even without an Excellency.

Maybe, but I think it's more likely that the individual level stuff is built on their apparently signature tactic of modifying mortals.

Mind effecting wards and the like makes sense, but such massive buffs seem like a waste of power, and the sort of thing that would make a wizard's teeth hurt from the other side of the city.

I can see really good magic being built into the foundations here, but not something strong enough to give their entire staff a constant +4 on multiple types of dice pool and be subtle enough that talented passerby can't identify something's up on sight.

We don't have anyone with magical sense around to check, but they're trying to be stealthy here. I doubt they'd pump that much magic in on a regular basis while doing so.

If it were flipped into some high activity state for defensive purposes that'd be one thing, but we're looking at what is basically the idling state of their system.

Not a great stunt, but hopefully sufficient for our needs.

How good is Clippy's camera as compared to the normal un-HMPed phone? If we put the note (unfolded) into our pocket with Clippy, would they be able to read it? Then we can take our phone out (pretend it's on vibrating setting) and have Clippy show the note's contents to us. That should be stealthy enough.

Also, some unrelated questions: are all the cyber demons we summon people? That is: sapient and distinct? I know that Clippy mentioned earlier that when they are banished they don't go back to the wicked city but chill in our aura. For example, have we re-used the cyber demon that we summoned into the FBI agent's phone? How many demons do we have now?

Im thinking that the receptionist is a vanilla mortal, actually.
Just doing her job, and being unknowingly buffed at it by the same general effects on the rest of the facility.
Because if I was modifying someone to play receptionist, they would have telepathy, not be reliant on phones.

Clippy can recognize people. No problem reading a note.
Probably better to simply palm it on the clipboard and read it there, though.

Well, if we needed IC impetus to learn a shapeshifting Charm... :ninja:

So far, same vote, just a battle of the stunts.

I am a little curious about/impressed with the old lady who passed us the note. Who is she? How did she know to pass the note to us? Did she just plan to pass it to the first person from outside she saw, or maybe she is a minor talent and was able to sense something from us?

Either way it requires an impressive amount of wisdom and bravery.

The issue is the minimum focusing distance of the phone's camera. Ie - does Molly's phone have a macro photography mode? It's 2006, Molly isn't a high tech fan, and isn't from a very well off family. Her phone is likely to be something relatively simple. Hence the question.

Actually... Stop.
Because Molly bears the Crown of Eyes.
We do have the Crown of Eyes!

[X] Inconspicuously glance at the note as you put it into your pocket. Use the Crown of Eyes to ask the question "what information did the writer of this note want to convey to us?"

One mote of essence for stealth is a good exchange. Especially if this gives us some magical world secrets. And the writer likely wanted to give us more than the information they could fit into the note. So, crown of eyes to the rescue!
