Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Wasn't the winning plan at the start of this to follow him so they could disappear Harry to a black site?

It sounds like they're using this frame job as an opportunity to make a move on the council, so it seems unlikely they'll keep him somewhere easy to get to for long and that legal niceties like innocence won't see him released.
I think it's less a "move on" and more "finally get one of these guys into a position where they'll have to tell us what's going on". Dresden is too damn confrontational to work with these guys, I fear.

[ ] Call Agent Wright to… smooth things over
-[ ] "Ok, I've seen enough. Firstly, they're called the White Council, not the Lawmakers. Secondly, Dresden is a Regional Commander in the middle of a war against the Vampires - if the Council find out that you've kidnapped him they're going to overreact. Finally, he was with me all day helping me chase down a coven of Nazi Necromancers so there's no way he could have murdered Greene and I'll swear that three times under Oath.
-[ ] "Look, you all seem well intentioned and I'd rather not get into a pissing match with the US government so let Dresden go and I'll meet you and give you a basic primer on what you can expect to find out there
-[ ] "And I will know if you use this to try and trick Dresden into something, and I will be very displeased."
-[ ] If he asks how you got his number say "magic".

Basically, we know enough to know that this is basically Mulder and Scully fumbling in the dark. Let's approach them in good faith and offer them some basic knowledge in exchange for letting Dresden go. Frankly, it's more than they'll get out of Dresden.

I mean you have his phone location, that is easier to track that trying to follow the police convoy with a car.

i am not that well versed in dresdenverse stuff… so can Harry just switch into the nevernever if things get to dangerous? It's not like they could follow him…

Ok, yeah. I think I'll go with this for now. It gives out a bit too much for my tastes, but then again - let's extend an olive branch:

This really reminds me of that ' initiative' from BTVS series - a government organization to deal with supernatural...that ends up kidnapping and trying to force the protagonist to work for them, and spends lots of time to dissect supernaturals in lab and make weapons .

these are not peacekeapers or government hunters out to sefaguard USA, these are more in line with CIA and other spy and secret agencies, out to secure any advantage they can from teh supernatural as they battle it.

id bet that most of the ' espers' end up test subject sooner or later.

cooperation might be viable with a later iteration of that organization, but ONLY after certain reforms are made, and changes are forced. ' not dissecting wizards' should be a ground rule, and enforced. and any director that ignores it, replaced.

such cooperation must NOT come from that group holding all the cards, as they seek to do to harry.

We have the location of an agent, if they split at their office and he gets flown out to Cuba we'll lose the ability to do anything about this.

They kind of deserve it. I get that they're desperate, but they're also holding a murder charge they know is false over him to compel him to do what they want. That's flatly a violation of every oath they ever took; I don't care how common or not it is, that's a mark against them.

It's also why I don't want to just jump in to working with them. We know nothing except they're a suspicious government conspiracy, and there's nothing innocent about how they're trying to resolve their ignorance.

I'm sympathetic, but this isn't the only option, it's just the one where they get to play at being the big boys who give orders.

Dresden is in the phone book and regularly works with the police.

Send a mook in the know to feel out special investigations to get a look at how he operates, or send a cut out to hire him to solve something for them to establish a relationship with him.

Working with them at this stage is also highly likely to turn into working for them, because we have no separate power base.

Ok, yeah. I think I'll go with this for now. It gives out a bit too much for my tastes, but then again - let's extend an olive branch:

Please at least mask who we are before calling them. You're blindly assuming they're benevolent, and that whatever they think is the right thing to do is also something that's beneficial for us.

[X] Goldfish

[X] Go to Father Forthil like your dad suggested, see if there is anything he can do for Harry
-[X] Ask if the white council can be contacted ASAP!

Edit:

Remember that we're talking pure mortals here. The only thing we can do to protect ourselves and our family if they look into us, or turn around to come pick Molly up, is bluff.

What we just did is in fact a felony even if the method is exotic, so they wouldn't need to make (many) things up to legitimately hold a prison sentence over our head

Edit 2: approval voting

Yes.
That's very much a last resort though. It's blatantly magical in front of muggles. It requires him to open a door and step through, so someone might still shoot him while he's doing it, or chase after. And since he doesn't get to pick his entry point from the usual paths, the Nevernever might also contain very dangerous things and/or get him lost in that particular region.

-[X] Have Clippy search for highway camera's along the route you drove with Harry today. Let's see if we can find an alibi.

Wright is not who y'all should be voting to contact. He's effectively just Cole's minion in all of this, and will have zero authority to release Harry.

You are also making a mistake being conciliatory here. The MIB basically just kidnapped Harry so they can blackmail and experiment on him.

Fuck that. Do y'all really think Molly would just suggest a nice, polite meeting after witnessing this and learning what they're doing?

My logic is we're not actually telling them anything secret here. Dresden being a Warden Regional Commander isn't something the Council hides, and the war against the Red Court is well known in the supernatural world. That we're investigating NAZI Necromancers is eyebrow raising but not something we've a reason to hide and he already thinks we're a clairvoyant of some sort.

You're telling him who we are and that we just used magic to commit a felony.

These guys are not good guys; they just showed us that even if they're pushing paper and wearing suits while they do it.

We should trust nothing about them until we have more reason to.

We are not a solar and a lot of SWWHAwahhfawhathername good bureaucracy charms didn't get ported. We, in fact, can't trivially destroy any mortal organization we can see.

We're an exalt, with a few beaurocracy charms we can basically take over any organization we're a part of.
We don't have any charms like that right now, and won't for the immediate future.

The only one we even have the option to take before we're strong enough for custom charms is one that curses an specific effort or office.

We're not playing 2E and Molly exalted like a week ago. Mortals can still ruin her life.

We need to actually leverage Molly's potential into something to change that.

Look, this is basically the FBI scrambling trying to figure out what the fuck is going on since the War between the Red Court and White Council erupted. Everything we've seen indicates that these people are in wildly over their heads.

They need someone to give them a basic primer on the supernatural or they'll accidentally insult a Winter Fae or something similarly dumb. Harry's not going to do it after all - he's more likely to sit in the chair and insult them for a few hours and then hold a massive grudge. He doesn't even explain stuff to Karen Murphy he's not going to tell the FBI shit.

You're telling him who we are and that we just used magic to commit a felony
At no point did we admit to committing a felony. We admitted to knowing what was going on, and we implied we scryed them. That isn't against the law unless Congress passed a bunch of 'magic illegal' laws whilst no-one was looking. And more to the point, good luck proving that in court.

Meanwhile Goldfish is busy advocating for calling the National Security section of the FBI up and trying to threaten them into releasing Dresden. It's like they designed the write in to get the FBI's back up.

True, but on the other hand if he were flown to Cuba Wright would likely be at the very least told about it and you can hear his communications in real time as well as read all his emails even if they are not on the phone because you have his phone. The alternative would have been to try to follow a police convoy around town. It would have been a Wits+Stealth roll not to be noticed so three dice and no key ability.

Being warden commander is not something these guys know, but it makes Dresden more valuable as a hostage.
----[X] "This is your one and only chance to free Harry Dresden and clear his name before the problem escalates out of our control. Otherwise, I will have to bring your operation to the attention of the Lawmakers, and I can promise you they will not take kindly to the state-sanctioned kidnapping and attempted extortion of one of their agents."
Look, this is way too needlessly confrontational. Government agencies do not, can not admit weakness and surrender to foreign elements on their soil. This is not part of their mandate. This is trying to establish dominance. This will not work. Cannot work - we don't have the muscle to do this, and we would require muscle. This is basically calling US government out with "no, you don't get to have jurisdiction in your own country". Our words are not backed with nuclear weapons yet.

Let's try a middle road
[X] Call Agent Wright to… smooth things over
-[X] Use a payphone, or a Voice over IP service, and have Clippy distorting your voice.
-[X] "Ok, I've seen enough. What you are doing right now is playing directly into a nazi magical cult plans, and also aiding vampires in their war against humanity. Best advise - let Dresden go, and establish friendly contact if you actually want information. Hell, hire him as a consultant! What you are doing right now is as blue on blue as it gets for humanity".

Ok, something like this.

So, what? That gives them the right to kidnap and blackmail Harry? To experiment on him?

Y'all could at least try to come up with an IC vote for Molly, the 17 year-old Infernal Exalt who just saw the man she really admires (not to mention has a huge crush on) kidnapped by the MIB.
