If we ask him how, he can presumably tell us. There's about 4-5 relevant questions here and we can only pick one.

Whodunnit - Cuts through a lot to give you a culprit, the question is what next? If they did this on orders, are they able/willing to tell us? If the one giving the orders had them killed then we may as well have wasted the question.

Howdunnit- Pessimistically interpreted, we get a list of steps for how he was injured divorced of context.

Whendunnit- Recently, I don't see why we'd ask this

Wheredunnit - If he was somehow attacked in the nevernever and deposited here or something, we'd find that out

Whydunnit - If the attacker was operating on X's orders, we would know who X is and cut to the heart of the problem much faster. If they are operating independently, we get useful information about them.

In short, we should really ask why he was attacked as in the attacker's motive. I doubt it will be as cryptic as the Disco Elysium protagonist's weirder thoughts(Love Killed Him/Communism Did Him In).

Harry: "Is Google the name for that bullshit Intellectus power you've spontaneously developed?"

Molly: "No, it's on the intern-, actually, you know what, yes, it's Intellectus, but everyone who isn't a wizard can use it."
You joke, but getting Harry access to google and/or enhancing google (or making our own search engine) with intellectus would be a very worthwhile endeavor. Paranet is probably our best source of minions and cult.

Paranet does not exist yet, it forms at the end of White Night, about a year from now in canon, after the minor practitioners of Chicago are targeted by rogue White Court vampires. On the other hand those practitioners are not dead yet so there are more of them overall.

[X] Call an ambulance for him and leave, you are not going to leave anyone to die on the street, but that does not mean he is your responsibility

All the more reason to do some organizing, and to make advantage of being able to actually use internet.

Pulling someone out of the wicked city to work as a demonic search engine could be helpful. Make our own genuine poor man's intellectus. For when the crown of eyes is overkill.

Does anyone who has read the books know what's up with the cop dude? Was it the Fey trying to do Harry a "favor" or...?

I will say this much the butterflies are well and truly loose, they have been loose since the spiders, but by now they have circled the globe.

Arc 0 Post 28: Red Road
Red Road

6th of July 2006 A.D.

Harry is surprisingly matter of fact about the whole 'beaten up cop fifty yards from his door' thing, just fetches his coat and tells Mouse to look after the place which earns him a half bark half huff as though the dog were saying 'teach your grandma how to suck an egg'. Really they are more like roommates than anything, you smile.

"Soo, does this happen often?" you ask a little awkwardly, quickening your pace to keep up with his longer strides. "Cops getting bloodied near your door I mean?"

"First time for everything," he shakes his head. "Don't have much in the way of good surprises but that's just a professional thing."

"P.I.s don't like being surprised?" you ask confused.

"Wizards," he corrects. "Give a wizard time to prepare and he can deal with a lot more than they can flying by the seat of their pants."

But you have such a nice seat, the words pop into your head instantly and you wish you could blame the demon. Bad Molly, there is a man bleeding on the sidewalk, not the time to be flirting.

"Why is it you care about his survival my princess? Surely he must be counted a foe for what he has done, or at least an annoyance."
Usum asks but you shake off the question. Now is also not the time to try to explain being a Good Samaritan to a demon

"Someone worked him over with a bat or a tire iron," Harry says when you get to the detective. "See most of the bleeding is from the leg."

He starts to pick him up, presumably to take inside and you move to help.

"You shouldn't be involved in this," he says seriously.

"I already am or do you think it is a coincidence that the car alarm went off just as Mouse was barking, just as I was coming in, not to mention I found him..."

You can see Harry unhappily start to waver when the Detective groans and starts to push himself up against the car, enough to look at harry though bleary eyes.

"Come to see what your thug's handy work eh Dresden?" he asks, slurring the words. "You'd better... you'd better run. Cop killers... cop killers ain't lucky in this town."

"Well that is good then because you're not dead and I don't have thugs," Harry answers, for all the good it does him. Detective Green had lapsed back into unconsciousness.

Harry doesn't curse, like you are biting your tongue against, he just sort of sighs, like this really is Tuesday for him. then he just stops to think for a bit. "Here is what we are going to do, you are going to go inside and call Murphy, I'll give you her number while I stay out here to make sure whoever did this doesn't come back to finish the job."

"I do have a phone you know. I can just..." you cut yourself off as Usum interjects. "I know little of machines mistress, but this much I recall, ever has the wild surging power of mortal magicians been the bane of their fellows' artifice which even the smallest eddies in the fabric of things can burn."

"Wait, that's why you don't even have a TV?" you shake your head. "How do you even watch movies?"

Harry, who was already taking out some bandages from the depths of his coat to see to Greene on the spot snarks back: "With distance and self-control Kirk."

You laugh a little, he is about as far from a Spock as anyone you know. Sadly this isn't the time for banter what with the beaten up cop still beaten up and apparently also thinking that Harry had something to do with it.

What do you do?

[] Do as Harry asked and call Detective Murphy from his phone

[] Offer to stand guard while he calls, she is likely to ask fewer questions and get here faster (Charisma+Empathy Roll)

[] Write in

OOC: And so Harry's habit of giving nicknames to very nearly everyone makes an appearance. 'Kirk' was a good suggestion.

"Welcome Friends, To Sheol! Behold The Unsleeping City! The Dayless City! The Obsidian Gem! Take in her black marble skyscrapers as they cast vast and deep shadows onto her streets of brass and bone, Delight at the pin pricks of eerie geisterlicht that serve as the cities lights make Sheol look almost magical!

...from a distance

Do Not Be Fooled. It Is a City like any other, but with far more dangerous and desperate citizens. So! Keep your head down, Avoid Her Unblinking Gaze, count yourself lucky you're only a tourist. Stay Close, Listen Close, Pay Well, and you'll be safe with me." -Ryan Hellfast, Professional Sheol Tour Guide.

The City Behind Every Shadow is a Large Cosmopolitan Urban Area of Approximately 8.666 Million —In a space meant for half that, at least filled with all manner of Demons, Humans, and many other Supernatural Beings besides living aside, below and on top of one another in an often uneasy peace enforced by the Velvet Glove and Brass Fist of The Sheol City Council. The Council has 7 Seats, 6 of which belong to a prominent faction within Sheol, The Vampires, The Demons, The Mortals, The Mages, And The Fae. The Last is the Highest Chair, Which Belongs In Perpetuity to The Nascent Demon Empress Herself.

The City boasts a eclectic architectural style, a strange and often intermingling blend of Slick Art Deco, Communist Block Brutalism, and Baroque Gothic Ostentation. Also of note, Space and Time in Sheol are more a suggestion than a rule of nature, as one might find a bodega whose bathroom door leads in actuality the middle of a small park, or a library in place of a empty lot if you walk past it backwards three times. Indeed, any attempt to exit the city in any logical fashion end in failure, spitting you out somewhere often much deeper in. On the positive side, a stay for a week or more may see you return to the Mortal World only hours or minutes after you left. Fortunately, Once you have filed and been approved for the appropriate visa (You Won't, unless you're Molly) Travel too and From the Dayless City is as simple as inserting the vantablack metrocard into any appropriately door-sized or larger shadow in an Urban or Suburban Area, which will lead to its Obsidian Mirror in Sheol. (A Helpful Tip! Tourist Visas are temporary, and often only one way, be sure to be prepared!)

The City itself is intimately familiar to Molly—as it should beShaped as it was by Her unconscious mind and nurtured by the spark the slumbering Dark God inside Molly Carpenter. She Knows its streets and subways, its shortcuts and finest spots like the back of her own hand, helped in part by the fact that The "Sun" here is a Vast Unblinking Eye whose Iris glows, Moon-like and with strange unradiance that seems to create shadow rather than light. The Thousand Eyed Demon Empress can choose to look though it to simplify her navigation of The City Behind Every Shadow at anytime. (She may, in time, learn to use this...City Eye for more then simple navigation, for an Exalt's Potential is Limitless.)

I think its neat, and I had fun doing the write up, so I hope y'all like it

So we are weighing the chance of this being bait (whomever stays with mister meatball being jumped) versus this being intentional incrimination (Harry being next to a dude who got beaten bloody looks really goddamn bad).

Assuming we aren't overthinking things. It could be one stalker ran into a second, or somebody is looking out for Harry and is overzealous, or... fuck all. Sometime's Harry's luck is legitimately just that bad.
