It didn't have to fail. It was NOT inevitable that it failed. So don't pretend that it was.

The other Roll with unknown DC was just as likely to fail and instead it was a Crit-Success.

We took a Risk. It backfired in one and payed off in another case on this Turn.

Some you win, some you lose.

And besides: Any other Action taken in it's Place would've Crit-Failed too with a Roll that low.
The more cautious faction was built on the idea that since anything can happen, let's not tempt fate with huge risks. I am delighted that we have a strategic edge coming into Egypt. I only hope we can minimise the harm done to us politically and in Sicily. Perhaps drop the Sicily bit and press on with Egypt? No plan survives contact with the enemy. Clearly we have enemies plotting against the Sicily landing. Which isn't really required now that the RN are neutrals. We should be stomping the Ottomans in Egypt while the coast is clear. Take Tunis and Algiers?

Indeed. Preventing the Continental System from forming - or if we can't, then at least introduce it in a way that actually significantly damages Britain while not being too harsh on the rest of Europe - is something that we should try to help make happen.
Have sugar beet, mass production and interchangeable parts poised? Are we going to oppress the workers? Ban slavery? Votes for all? Aside from invalidation of monopoly in some British trade goods, I can't see how we can damage Britain. Canals?

A blockade would put us back at war with them.

Politically, it's out of your control. Your allies are protecting you and your enemies are trying to destroy you.

You can't really do much about that without playing army politics... which is something that you are in no position to do, since you are going to be across the Med.

as for Sicily... well you can do a lot there to help start or end some fires.

Along with using your young Protegee's and former prince and princess to your advantage.
Have sugar beet, mass production and interchangeable parts poised
Do you mean created? No.

Sugar is still a mostly french controlled good thanks to Haiti being under our sphere of influence.

Most mass-production techs are still decades away, and those that are invented at this time are widely known to the rest of Europe, but they lack the implementation, resources and manpower pool to be efficient in most nations at the moment, as most nations are still agrarian stated
Are we going to oppress the workers?
That's up to you. As for why you would do that when everything is still very much an egalitarian state, where... well oppression is seen as a bad thing...

Be anyone guess honestly.
Slavery, at least in France and Haiti has been outlawed.
Aside from invalidation of monopoly in some British trade goods, I can't see how we can damage Britain. Canals?
Screwing with their imperial holdings elsewhere in the world?

India is their crown jewel. take that away, and Britian loses a helluva lot in the way of... everything.

There is also the China question, and actually making lasting allies within Russia and Spain, instead of... well fucking them over.
A blockade would put us back at war with them.
Yeah, but if they are the ones who start it, then we'll be at war anyway.

Cyber' , 'Goose, thank you both for this Turn and the planning that has kept this quest possible.
You have no idea how happy I am to hear that, considering that a few people were at the beginning of my stewardship of the quest while Plaus is on break... saying that the quality of writing was never as good as it was when Plaus was running the show, and that was very draining on my confidence, and Cyber actually stopped writing anything for weeks, meaning I was doing everything by myself until Cyber gathered up some confidence from the updates that have passed, seeing the good reception and dove headfirst into the whole thing with renewed vigor.

And frankly, he actually saved me from dropping the whole thing entirely, saying

Cyberphilipsipher said:
We already poured two years of our lives into this epic story that we have created, in a world that can, hopefully, live up to the French Revolution, it's values and it's principles, all thanks to one Woman's stand to her beliefs, and the faith that others have given her.

Why end the Story that is on the cusp of greatness... when there is still so much of her story to tell.

Because that is the story. A story of a woman who shows, despite all the hell that may befall her, whatever happens to her and her comrades, shows for just one moment, there is a victory in the French Revolution, and in a sense, for all mankind.

We save two lives that were destined for death. We may even gain glory. This is a Song of Victory.

But also a Song Of Life, Liberty and Brotherhood.

So lets make it ours as well.

And the fact that some people seem to think that our humanistic, idealistic approach to this story (along with, until rather recently, avoiding going in too heavily in the trauma, politics, tragedy, and sexism of the era in favor of a more standard adventure fare) is a bit... well not as interesting.

That and @Tjakari thinks that this is soft history... but we made peace with that long ago.

Edit: forgot one more thing.

You smile. It seems that all the reports are moving in, and finally, you could work with less scrutiny from Paris, and with far more support than you first realized.

With Peace in Europe, the French Government has more material and men to work with when assembling units and preparing for the campaign.

There was however a single problem that kept you up at night.

And it was not the impending arrival of General Bonaparte, and your brother, now the conquering heroes of Italy, and the greatest Heroes of France of this generation, having been hailed as the destroyers of the Austrian menace that were poised to destroy the Republic.

You tried not to sigh at the news and all the propaganda that it was full of.

You got enough of that with Charlotte reading those imported adventure novels she got from London… the ones that were about you.

How she managed to get her hands on such material, and translated is something that never fails to confuse and amuse you.

It also makes you wonder if she has spies or contacts within the English heartlands… or her royal name got her some special privilege that allowed the authors to sell more stories.

Did she endorse such books? Was she making money off this madness without telling you?

And why was she always hiding them whenever you came in to read them?

But such questions were not your focus.

You worried about one thing that was not your impending invasion.

Napoleon Bonaparte.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well Almost. There was still that Muhamad Parsha that you need to deal with. The man had given you everything to attempt a successful invasion of Egypt, of successfully holding Egypt and place a friendly government in power, one that will see French interests... instead of other power's interests.

However, the problem is the man himself.

He had ambition. and that was a problem. Who knew if once you let him go, he would just go back to his old masters, and possibly sell you out as he had done before.

You needed to find out what to do with the man.

And you did not know.

How do you Handle Muhamad Parsha: Note: All Options are subject to a hidden roll, and you do not have a high enough Subterfuge score to know the DC.

AN: Alright everyone, some explaining to do about this particular short update.

1. Cyber is in need of a vacation after that Previous monstrous update, so this vote will be staying open for a week or two. Like he's kinda... well he needs it. That update took a lot out of him.

2. There are a lot of actions this turn, and you have been granted a lot of resources to complete certain actions. You may notice that you can invest in industries here. This is more for allies that you hire, recruit, or blackmail into working for you. Yes, I said Blackmail.

3. Like the Reward above said: Most EVERY Action has the potential to DRASTICALLY shape the future of the quest (outside of recruiting and training, either in personal relationships, finances, military standing, France's Geopolitical stance and... well What we do with Parsha.)

I hope you all enjoy and please vote in Plan format.

I wanna take him and make him our local government leader or something like that. Leave him in charge of that while we go off and fight the ottomans Seems to be a good way to handle it. Dunno if he would like that though. TBH it seems like he knows way to much of the way we want to invade which he could use to fuck us the same way he did napoleon.

These are the ones I want, rn I'm not in my pc to make a proper plan, so if there's plans with most of these I'm in on it

If we're planning to swap in Davout to lead II Corps, then Severin can lead the Reserve group, since that has out greenest troops. I've heard others float the idea of him leading the Guards infantry under Chamans as well (they are more like over strength brigades with attached rifle regiments than actual divisions) if you want to focus on making our most seasoned infantry into crack troops.

As for dealing with our Ottoman guest, I have an extremely out of the box big brain play to pitch: have Severin watch him. Ostensibly, it's a way to watch the results of French training methods, and he's close to Louis, so it looks like we're giving him access to the heir to the throne of France. But Severin is one of our officers with a high combat skill that isn't leading a corps (if we sub in Davout), and he can "innocently" (true or not) mention that he had a distant relative who experienced the hospitality of the Ottoman Empire a while back with his king. You know, Old Ironhead, stayed in Moldova for a while.* It's an implicit threat, and if the guy is at all educated, he'll probably recognize that yeah, he's close to Louis, but "we're watching you, and we can certainly kill you if you make any funny moves."

* The Skirmish at Bender, where Karl XII overstayed his welcome and was a generally shitty houseguest, forcing the Ottomans to fight a losing war against Russia after he got his army rekt at Poltava (marched into Russia during Winter, 1709). Several hundred Ottomans attempted to storm the estate the king was staying at, and the king sniped at them from his bedroom window, while he and 40 of his Royal Guard held them off for 7 hours. The Ottomans then employed artillery (unsuccessfully) and fire arrows to dislodge the Swedes. Only after the roof caught fire did the situation change. The king tripped over his spurs leaving the burning building, and he was swarmed and subdued, placed under house arrest for the better part of a year.

Total Wealth used 8 Army Wealth. 6 Personal Wealth
Remaining Wealth: 12 Army Wealth, 8 Army Wealth

Saving Serre is important, Actually getting good maps for Sicily is also important, I included the suggested staff swaps if that's allowed, we always need more guns. And I decided on Textiles for the industry since its applicable to both peacetime and wartime. I also decided to bring the general with us.

Fixed an error

Heh, funny story relating to that. Jane Austen had the royal favor of the Prince Regent, who would later be King George IV. He loved her stories so much that he would keep several copies at hand in several of his residencies, and in fact managed to buy her very first book, Sense and Sensibilities, two days before it was actually sold to the public.

Just one problem.

She hated the man.

He was an absolute rake, a wastrel, and a glutton; he was everything she loathed about nobility, and damn it, she had to dedicate her fourth novel Emma to him despite that.

So yes, I can absolutely believe that her royal name got her those books made.:p

@ArvisPresley Davout should be commanding II Corps, unless you plan to displace Kleber and leave II Corps without a commander.

Edit: As for investment, iron and coal in Alsace and Lorraine is a safe bet, and can be the foundation for other heavy industry, but also cannon foundries and musket factories. Papa Severin is going back there, since he's not going on our Mediterranean cruise, so he's a possible proxy.

THe thing about giving Severin the reserves is that, once we begin our campaign, there will be a need to keep them busy when they are not in use or holding positions.

While something I will approve, there is also a possibility that having Louis fall under Parsha's influence will be a bad thing.
