The Path Unending (A Cultivation Quest)

[X] Treachery. Ming Hui is a diplomat in training while Zhi embarked on the path of the Dirty Fighter. Let each do what they specialize in. Calm Ming Hui down and send him to distract the Boar with food, friendly chatter and attempts to bargain while Zhi looks for an opportunity to strike from a blind spot.
-[X] With a debilitating technique like Warhound's Cry, we don't need to hold out for a physical blind spot, merely for Ming Hui to occupy enough of the Boar's focus.
--[X] If successful, offer to teach WHC to Ming Hui to spread the glory of team floof.

[X] This creature is too pathetic to kill, and likely doesn't mean any direct harm. It wants a tool for digging, and you can provide that. Take one of your emergency steel ingots and use Chui Dao to form a trowel and offer it in trade
-[X] Ask how it obtained the utensils. If a disciple disposed of them and it found them then...you'd just have to track that disciple down for some education.

Well, bacon time will be another day. And who knows if the boar don't become more friendly or give us some nice tips

Changing my vote to this.

I'm just going to randomly suggest that there is a Spirit Pig digging around inside a Sect near some Crystalline Trees.
This suggests magical truffles to me. Maybe helping it dig would be a good thing.

Can I just say...

I really don't want to reward this thing for it's theft by giving it something

We don't know that this Spirit Beast "stole" the utensils, though.

The courier office insisted they delivered it to Ming Hui but Ming Hui never received them, which means that the utensils could have been landed in the possession of the Spirit Beast through many possible channels, not all of which involve "theft":

(a) The courier could have accidentally dropped or lost the utensils in the tunnels, and then reported that the utensils were properly delivered so as to avoid blame and punishment.

(b) The courier could have delivered the utensils to the another Disciple's address, and the receiving Disciple then dumped the utensils in the tunnels upon seeing that the utensils were not enchanted items and had no market / sale value (since these utensils are only so cherished by Ming Hui for their sentimental value).

(c) The courier could have delivered the utensils to Ming Hui's house, and then one of his rivals stole it from Ming Hui and dumped it in the tunnels.

[X] It can speak. That means there's some amount of intelligence here, and that could mean you have a chance to negotiate. You will attempt to bargain with the Boar for the return of the skewers.

Maybe we can bargain for how they even got posession of the tools in the first place.

There's a ton of torn brown paper in the cave, I think it's been stealing a bunch of stuff.
Seriously tho this'd like someone suggesting we befriend Jin Yazhu
I feel like we're going to try and make nice with his cousin so this isn't quite as strong as whatever this is deserves.

I am extremely hesitant to just roll in with guns blazing on this thing.

1) It can talk.
2) It actually did talk instead of fleeing or fighting. This suggests that it does not consider itself guilty or in danger and I'd like to find out why. Did it steal them and has no concept of guilt? Did it find them and took a shine to them? Who knows.

I'd rather not kill or bully a potential innocent in this and if it is determined that it DID steal it, does understand personal belongings, and won't return the tools even so then force can always be pulled out later if indeed this thing is weak enough that fighting it would be the way to go.

If indeed a tool is all it wants, then we can grant it a tool more suited to its needs. My only concern with this vote is whether or not Zhi will actually negotiate with this option or just whip out the tools and bang around and hope it all works out, but I think we've established enough of his character that we can be more direct with the purpose of the vote(in this case, make a replacement tool and offer trade).

tl;dr We haven't established guilt and in our brief interaction its proven willingness to at least communicate and has given us a hint as to what it might actually want.

-[X] Also ask what it is digging for. If it trades Ming Hui some edible ingredients it would be easier to settle things peacefully.

So I'm picturing a friend offering to help us after, let's say, we find the Love Transfixed stolen. We track it here to this weird pig using it to dig up mushrooms.

And then our friend tells us to spare it? They should know how much this means to us. It's a gift from our Father

I doubt anyone in the thread would feel as charitable as they currently are towards this pig. And we'd be unlikely to do that friend's socials after.

Just. I feel like we're shoving aside Ming Hui's feelings way too easily.

@Vesvius Would mundane travel supplies include something shaped like a trowel? If we have one on us, we don't need to make one.
So instead of fleeing, you move towards the Anvil. One hand plucks Chui Dao from your sash- drawing a joyful cry of <MUGHI!> from the hammer- and the other moves to your storage pouch and begins rummaging through it. Without the Dance around, you've been reduced to carrying your various odds and ends around in an ordinary leather sack, but you've no choice. After all, what are you supposed to do, go through the wilds without ten feet of twine, three steel ingots, an old brass door knocker and two pounds of uncut quartz? No- you are many things, but uncivilized is not one of them.
Sure.

I agree but we have the problem that the utensils are in the boar's hands. If we attack and it defends with the thing, we will do more harm than anything the boar could have done. Only if we could take the utensils before battle we should attack it

The problem is that this thing is too smart to kill without cause and too stupid to have a sense of morality. Beating it up would be like punching a small child for doing something you don't like.

And other thing: what if we do a crime without even knowing about it?

The boar is practically sapient, stupid ok, but he knows how to talk and recognize civilization things (use of tools to work and "diplomacy"). It wouldn't be strange if he is close or on the right path for ascension. Two of our elders are ascended (the lizard and the tree), and they are respected as Artists. So... the boar isn't one too? What if we do a really big shit because we wanted to help Fatty desestress?

I am probably just thinking too much and in a really absurd way, but it can happen.
