New Good Seed and Omake Rule Updates
Good Seed and Omake Spreadsheet Rules:

Firstly, if you have questions about Good Seeds and the like please read here. If that doesn't answer your question please ping me in thread, or on Discord.

If you write a new Good Seed, or write an omake, please update the spreadsheet if you have access.

If you do not have access, please ping a collaborator (Swordomatic, Alectai, Quest, TehChron, Insane-Not-Crazy, Humbaba, ReaderOfFate, Kaboomatic, no., BungieONI) letting them know what you want and they will update the spreadsheet here. To gain access, you will need a gmail account of some kind. Throwaway emails are fine (I'm using one for the spreadsheet), but to gain access it's as simple as sending me either your email via PM, via DM in Discord, or just in Discord's #spreadsheet-requests channel.

This is mandatory. If a Good Seed does not record their omake by pinging collabs (or just requesting access and editing things themselves - this is the preferred option), I won't give out awards. If a new Good Seed is not recorded here, they won't advance. By doing this it makes the whole thing manageable for me - it's gotten pretty unwieldy!

-----------------------

Omake Writer Instructions:

There are four fields you need to fill out.

Omake Link, which is just a link to your first omake for the turn. This makes it easier for me to read them as I do the update - without this it's tough to know off the bat which omake were written this turn, and to properly

Requested Bonus, which is your requested bonus for your omake. You can leave it up to me if you like. You can see more info in the Good Seed infopost here.

Cultivation Aims. For those following unorthodox paths - higher than 9th Heavenstage or later than 7th Dao Pillar paths. Please put in what you are aiming for before you break through. I have left it as 'default'. If you do not edit it, I'll go with that.

Turn Notes - Do you want to do something specific? Enter a Secret Realm? Help the Clan out in some way? If you have something specific you want to accomplish on this turn, put it in turn notes so I can adjust your Fate around it.

All other fields are for QM use to record character information to properly run the flow of the game.

current standings.

Eh
Why not
[X] Plan Bronze and Trade
The only reason I'm picking this plan is because I prefer Imperial Optimatoi over Golden Devil Clan, because golden devil clan is kind of a 'low tier xianxia enemy' type name, while Imperial Optimatoi is just badass

[ ] Sun (Unlocked by nature of Clan) - Your ancestors came from another world. Perhaps even the sun. Sun cultivators are simple enough compared to other bloodlines. In the day they are ascendant, at night they are weak. They heal under the light of the sun, but are suppressed by the Moon.

[ ] Moon (Unlocked by nature of Clan) - Your ancestors came from another world. Perhaps even the moon. Moon cultivators are simple enough compared to other bloodlines. In the night they are ascendant, during the day they are weak. Moreover, there is a second cycle - when a full moon hangs high in the sky you are powerful far beyond your nature, but on a day when a new moon is due, you are utterly vulnerable.

Are the vulnerabilities of Sun and Moon bloodlines also known to our enemies at the start of the game?

I agree on all the points but sun. Night lasts more than just few hours. If we are attacked during basically one half of the day, we are very weakened. It's like flipping a coin on our strength. I prefer something that lacks such an obvious weakness. Giving that everyone is gunning for us, how long until they realize our weakness? Metal is given a huge boost by our numbers advantage and bronze regeneration makes us even better at attrition.
Well depending on the season and where we're located night could only a little amount of time. But that ignoring our arrays. We can use them to store the power of the sun. Every time the sun rises they could be empowered. Also we wouldn't have lasted this long if there wasn't some way to get around the night time problem, even if it's simply relying on the arrays to last long enough for the sun to rise and we'd go on the offensive.

[X] Plan Bronze and Trade

I think I like this best. Except, why Optimatoi and not Optimates? The second one has the Roman aesthetic. Of course, we'd probably be Populares, not Optimates, so...

Honestly, the clan name I put down would be the ones that are written on the maps because the ones writing the maps are prejudiced, what the Clan calls themselves internally is something entirely different.

I would personally consider "Bronze and Trade" to be the same vote as "Weight of Bronze" myself.
We already have an enemy-given title: Heaven-Defying Demon Sect. Would you consider switching the name in The Weight of Bronze to what the Clan calls itself internally? I'd be interested to hear what you come up with.

I hope our clan will eventually be able to develop new sub-specialites and Paths for its members to explore. I definitely want to see our lost roman legion supplemented by a wing of beastmasters who ride sandworms into battle.

Optimatoi is Byzantine, which is the aesthetic I reached for initially - more Greek than Roman. Essentially the Clan was some manner of elite in the Heaven-Defying Sect.

If the vote remains close I'm likely to split the internal/external names (Golden Devil are what we call ourselves externally and what others call us, Imperial Optimatoi is the true name of the Clan but using it brings the displeasure of the heavens so it is kept secret and rarely used).

This is one of the reasons good seeds exist. Want to have a character who rides a sandworm? Sure. Good seeds will even impact the development of the clan more generally. You might have the occasional sword cultivator, body cultivator, a few doctors, maybe even the occasional poison master - it's just that the attainment of these things will be much lower than your core clan cultivation techniques.

In theory, maybe. But for you personally, that's not a realistic amibition. 'Win' conditions in your lifetime are more like 'becoming a major power in the Virtuous Flipper Region', and outliers are more like 'becoming the dominant power in your region'.
I thought it would be evacuate this dead continent and immigrate to another baby turtle?

Getting enough power to pierce the barriers between the Seas and essentially ascend onto the back of a non-dead turtle is well beyond your capabilities - to step between the Seas you need to be Spirit Severing at least, and to bring an entire clan with you... well, you don't even know what that kind of power looks like.

In worldbuilding terms, one of the things I hate most about xianxia is 'well this is a minor kingdom of a minor empire of a minor...' etc that means in reality each segment of the world is another stepping stone for the protagonist to grow and is never really explored.

Here, you're pretty much staying in the Virtuous Flipper Region for the entire quest - instead of having one character have marvellous adventures in a thousand forgettable places, what I want to write is xianxia, but from the perspective of those less talented elders who are just hanging on - they can't just go up a realm and beat up their enemies, ascending beyond Nascent Soul is so unlikey for them it's not even worth considering. For these people, leaving their homelands isn't a real possibility - I'm trying to build a place that matters to the elder we play as, and to any good seeds written by players as well.

The Sun/Moon quirks would be best exploited by relying heavily on formation defenses and attrition until the hour of power arrives. Then go kick butt.

Hmm.

On the one hand, a clear limitation and a focus on storytelling and worldbuilding rather than "Weakest X of the weakest Y of the weakest Z infinite cardinal escalation" is an excellent idea...

But I will admit I'm a little disappointed that this means we'll never, ever manage to shake the Tempering Trials trait because we'll never be strong enough to stop them :(

I don't think we're going to see a drastically divergent result.

The clan name to outsiders is the Golden Devil Clan, mysterious demons who the heavens themselves offer rewards to kill.

The secret name, only told to those who reach the middle stage of Foundation Establishment, is the Imperial Optimatoi. The bronze warrior-servants of some long-gone emperor who challenged the Heavens themselves.

Clan History & Culture
You look back at your history, thinking about what has led you to this state.

While much of your history is lost in the mists of the past, the most formative event in the last five thousand years was that of the Jin Empire. A mountain empire ruling a mere five million mortals, barely worth mentioning. It existed in territory that had once been nearer yours, as you had been driven from the best part of the plains to the southern end of the plains to the mountains - not yet into the desert. Nowadays it is held by the Sorrowful Blacksmith Sect, who were part of the coalition that drove you out of the mountains and into the desert.

The Abyssal Demon sect assaulted the Jin Empire, the first year they had bred their terrible Devil Bees. The Seven Divine Saber Palace chose not to fight them, and you drove the Abyssal Demons out. Old Abyssal Demon himself was killed, though this was in a time where you had four Nascent Soul cultivators, and the Abyssal Demon Sect two. You were prepared to destroy the Abyssal Demon Sect entirely, but your expedition left three of your Nascent Soul cultivators wounded, and weak.

It was your master's master who was the youngest Nascent Soul at the time, the only one unwounded. It was your master's master who saw the Seven Divine Saber Palace lead a coalition against you, ostensibly for invading and oppressing mortals - in truth because you were weak, and they coveted your blood and wealth. The Righteous Path united against you, and three of the Nascent Souls fell. Your master's master retreated into the desert, unifying the clans and empires there underneath him. Content to let him lick his wounds, the Righteous Path gained much, and the Sorrowful Blacksmith Sect came into existence, as a civil war among the Divine Blacksmith Sect saw them split in two over different inheritances left by the old Divine Blacksmith.

The Abyssal Demon Sect renamed themselves the Abyssal Devil Bee Sect due to the death of their old master, and sought your end in part due to your role in the death of Abyssal Demon - and the humiliation it caused them.

Worse than that, the luck of the Sect struck once more, and the Clan's old enemy, the Raging Fury Sect, left an inheritance of blood path in the desert. In it was a single sliver of will that possessed the founder of the new Sect, the Battle Blood Cannibal Sect. This Sect was a pile of loose sand in terms of unity, but blood path is incredibly strong, and while blood path devotees had little use for your bronze bodies, they had much use for the mortals under you. Their attacks are constant nowadays, and your enmity with Battle Blood Cannibal Sect must be resolved if you are to survive.

On this, you think about your Clan organisation, and how it must be to survive.

You treat outsider cultivators...

[ ] Equally.

+ Gain additional wandering cultivators of varying talent from low to extremely high. Lower cost to retain them.
- Significantly higher likelihood of betrayal

[ ] As Guest Elders or Guest Cultivators
+ Gain additional wandering cultivators of varying talent from low to very high. Considerable cost to retain them.
- Moderate likelihood of betrayal

[ ] As mercenaries
+ Very high cost to hire wandering cultivators, cannot induct them into the clan except in rare circumstances
- Betrayal likelihood non-existant

What manner of disciple do you prefer?

[ ] Resoluteness

The strongest Dao-heart is the strongest cultivator. If your disciples never falter even when fighting across realms you shall be satisfied.

[ ] Talent

What are all other means before talent? Pick those who will grow the fastest, become the strongest.

[ ] Loyalty

Choose the most loyal, the most obedient. The least likely to question your will.

[ ] Viciousness

Against their friends, they are as meek as lambs. Against their foes they tear out eyes, consume blood, smash groins. There is no room for mercy against foes.

What is your greatest Array?

[ ] Hidden Mirage Array

You can't hit what you can't see. The centre of your Clan is hidden behind illusions and mirages, nobody truly knows where it is. If your enemy could find you, they could easily overwhelm you, but who could find you?

+ More attrition. MORE!
+ Low cost to operate
-- Highly vulnerable to betrayal

[ ] Sand Giant Array

Your entire capital can transform into a massive giant, sandstorms billowing from its immense fists. While slow, and unable to travel far, it can fight enemies besieging it directly.

+ More defense, can do significant damage to enemy armies, not merely a passive defense.
- Massive use of Spirit Stones when activated.

[ ] Shattering Glass Spear Array

Your array summons sand, the heat melting it into massive glass spears. These can be shot anywhere in your territory, killing individual cultivators below Core Formation with little effort, and those in Core Formation with some cost. However, it cannot be fired constantly and is relatively slow to reload. It is excellent when picking off individual enemies from range, or assisting you in battles away from your clan core, but subpar against major assaults on the clan itself.

+ More territory control, able to kill enemies without sending cultivators. Shores up your speed weakness.
- Very low use versus a siege.

What is your greatest Formation?

NB - You will possess all three of these formations and more, but the one you choose will be your Primary Formation, which all your Core Formation cultivators will be trained in, as will the majority of your Foundation Establishment cultivators. If a Nascent Soul shows up to fight, this is the formation your clan uses (and the only one they can use) to assist you in battle. You have the highest attainment in it, and it's the most effective.

[ ] Hoplite Formation

En masse, your cultivators can summon a shadowy figure of a man holding a spear and shield of purest bronze. While the man is a shadow, the spear and shield are real, and can fight against cultivators who the individuals might not be able to. Strong on both attack and defense, the weakness of the Hoplite Formation is that it requires a strong Dao-Heart - if cultivators within the formation start to fear, it can shatter.

[ ] Kataphraktoi Formation

Your formation summons a great bronze-clad horseman, with lance and helm. He charges at staggering speed, the lance able to strike with far more power than one might expect. However, once the charge is spent, so will the formation mostly be - it is one grand strike, and after that the horseman can only fire mere arrows of moderate power.

[ ] Two-Headed Eagle Formation

The bronze two-headed eagle serves as a transport for many cultivators in an emergency. When it is summoned, a great eagle appears, powered by the Qi of the cultivators. It can shield cultivators with its wings, fly quickly, and peck at enemies. It is, however, much less forgiving than other formations - while the Hoplite and Kataphraktoi Formations can admit those even without the clan's bloodline to an extent, the Two-Headed Eagle is a proud beast and will serve no master who does not have blood of bronze.

@occipitallobe how much do other people remember the heaven defying sect both mortals and cultivators?

Mortals have no idea. Some cultivators know (most Nascent Souls will have a notion), but bear in mind cultivators aren't glorious patriots of Heaven designed to destroy evil demons, they're happy to kill you because it yields benefits. If the benefits are too few for the costs, why bother?

At this point, even more attrition will probably just make invading us impossible, period.

But it basically *demands* max loyalty combos.
