The Hyuga Incident Part Two: All Along the Watchtower
The Patrol was boring, but you were very happy that it was boring. You used your Byakugan for the entire patrol, which was a first. You were not feeling perfectly safe… not tonight.
You scanned the perimeter of the Compound walls, doing a headcount of the guards on duty, before looking out into the village.
The Red Flash was nowhere to be seen, but that was something that you could live without. As long as it was nowhere near the compound, you would be alright. Especially when you thought you saw Lord Hokage flash around the village, and there was a lot of movement around the Hokage Tower, and ANBU HQ.
You wanted to continue watching the said spectacle, but you had your own mission.
The Kumo ninja was still in their quarters, with the guards still awake, and the head ninja asleep.
After that check, you scanned Neji and Hinata's room, and both children were sleeping soundly.
You turned off the Byakugan for a moment and rubbed your eyes. Things for them were still clear for now. No hostiles, no movement You walked towards the intersection, and the rest of your team came there shortly after.
"Patrol 1 is completed, no sign of any suspicious activity within the perimeter," you stated to Kakashi.
"Patrol two is completed with no sign of suspicious activity besides someone sneaking into the kitchen for a midnight snack. I escorted them back to their room after they grabbed a bowl of rice from dinner." Futaba stated.
"Patrol three is completed with no sign of any activity," Itachi stated.
"No sign of activity," Kakashi stated. "Good, take a moment. Shiro, any of our guests moving?"
You nodded as you activated the Byakugan. "Nope, still there." You looked and saw the three men were in their room. "Though I did see Lord Hokage using the Hirashin for a moment, I have no idea why."
Kakashi's sole eye narrowed. "Sensei will be fine. Shiro, keep an eye on anything suspicious, I have a bad feeling about this."
"I have that feeling to Sensei… I fear my mother is going to kill me if I don't get home and explain myself tomorrow." Itachi muttered.
"You'll be fine," Futaba stated. "Alright, can we split up into teams of two, we've already covered a lot of ground."
"Done, Futaba go with Shiro, Itachi with me," Kakashi stated. "If you see something suspicious, make a loud noise."
"How loud?" You asked.
"Loud enough." He replied.
Both Sensei and Itachi walked in one direction, and you walked in another.
You rubbed your eyes as you activated the Byakugan again. Everything was fine… nothing was out of the ordin- No something was wrong.
The Kumo ninja room was empty… and several branch family rooms were empty as well, they were moving fast, towards Hinata's room and Hiashi's.
"We need to get to Neji and Hinata's room, now!" you shouted. You then turned to see one of the pots near the wall and threw a Kunai at it, the shattering hopefully was a loud enough noise to warn Kakashi that something was amiss.
"You go to Neji's room!" You ordered. "Get him out of here!"
You sprinted over to Hinata's room. Blurs came through your vision, you couldn't make them out due to so many of them moving.
Chaos was erupting all around you.
Who did you see when you barged through the door:
[]The Kumo head nin, with a bleeding chest from a Kunai: He was in a diplomatic mood… for a man who had just been stabbed. "You damned Hyuga… why did you attack us!?" Good thing he was open for a small chat and didn't think you were trying to kill him.
[]The Kumo nin's guard: "Come on, they're after the kid, maybe we can use it as leverage to get out of here!" The nin looked at you and looked ready to battle.
[]A Branch Member: "Come on, kid! We'll show your father that he no longer has power over us!" It was a branch member you had never really interacted with... and he looked lke he was about to kill Hinata.
[]Uncle Hiashi!: "Shiro, take Hinata to safety! Now!" He was bleeding and needed medical attention.
[]No one: Thank goodness, you got here first!

This doesn't seem like experimentation that should happen mid-combat, but something we'd experiment during Training. It doesn't really take much time to figure out "I can reliably swap with things up to x meters away".
And this is a situation where such a technique would be really useful. No need to run, just substitute with a near-by pot or something in the target room. Also makes for an excellent exit strategy now that we're here. Grab our loved ones, and substitute away.
