Just because they're not around doesn't remove the physical distance between everyone else and us, unless we vassalize the remains and put the market there.

And I reiterate that vandalizing in the middle of a war is a bad idea, there will be resentment as if we left them to die and then take them over, better to defend them now and then tie our cultures closer later.

I was excited when it looked like nautical tech was gonna win, wouldn't have been cool to finally explore the sea.
I agree that not coming to the aid of our allies then immediately seizing the smouldering remains before we know if their Queen is even alive sends the wrong message. Makes us look like vultures.

I also think that nautical tech would be great, particularly because we hold most of the coast and just do nothing with it. When I was catching up, we had a mega project that was literally digging through a mountain to get to our allies on the other side and I was like "why don't we just SAIL across!".

However, I think building a Great Market is a good idea, helps set us up as a bastion of civilization. As to distance from everyone else, there is a river. I'm sure specialized river merchants would arise to handle resale, particularly since we own trade goods that no one else does.

I really want to vassalize the Corlyd but I think we need to win the war first and we could probably still do that after we beat the Forluc since they are so damaged and the Queen might be dead.

Greenbay Lovers
"We should have some fun together," says Wonlyn as she rests herself against her lover, Evatine.

"Don't we already?" inquires Evatine.

"I certainly enjoy our times in bed Eva, but I was thinking that ought to try doing more fun stuff beyond that," replies Wonlyn, "By the Daughters, we spend most of time together fornicating because the rest of the time, we are too busy working. We need to spend more times like this where to something fun and non-sexual."

"So more time just socialising and enjoying each other's company," says Evatine, "I can support that, but I would like to do something at the same time. I just feel like I am wasting time I am not doing anything productive."

"I am sure we can find some activities to do together," Wonlyn assures Evatine, "I wouldn't be able to join you in your duties, but you may be able to involve yourself in mine."

"In what way?" asks Evatine.

"Well, we often do some performances when we tell stories to make the experience of listening to them more memorable," explains Wonlyn, "Smaller communities can't do it due to having too few priests, but in large settlements like Greenbay, we are able to devote time to making more dramatic and memorable experiences. I am one of the best performers around so I can show you how to act before you join our practices. I am sure that the two of us would make a good Malbyn-Cadnys couple as you could be the Malbyn to my Cadnys. You would also make an excellent Arthryn or Wyrn as you have the perfect body for those roles. With a bit of training and practice, I am sure that you would make for a great performer like myself."

"That does sound interesting," says Evatine thoughtfully, "I always seen myself as a warrior and nothing more. Being a wielder of magic and a servant of the divine is still something that I am adjusting too. I still feel that considering myself to being favoured by the goddesses is outrageous. In many ways, I am still struggling to outgrow my origins as a lowborn daughter of the Forluc."

"I forget how weird foreigners can be about who are born to," replies Wonlyn, "I find it so stupid to decide the future of someone based on the man and woman that they are born."

Evatine can't find herself disagreeing with that statement. While she was born amongst those that valued bloodlines, Evatine prefers the ways of the Arthwyd where the whole community raises a child and a person's fate is determined by their actions and not who they are born to.

"You could also attend social events with me Eva," continues Wonlyn, as she snuggles up closer to Evatine, "I go to plenty to build up connections, provide spiritual aid and otherwise fulfil my duties as priestess. However they are fun and enjoyable events and they are something in which we could enjoy each other's company. Arthryn's Bountiful Bosom, your presence would probably help me with my duties thanks to your status as the Champion of Arthryn."

As Evatine breaks out laughing, Wonlyn jerks upwards, off-guard by the sudden laughter of her lover.

"I find it how funny you northerners refer to your goddesses so casually," explains Evatine with a small as she stifles her laughing, "Forluc only refer to Nalnir with the utmost respect and I would have never invoked his name out loud while I was growing up except in prayer or worship. The riverlanders or lowlanders as you call them here in the north lack reverence for Zaranna, but when they do, they are respectful of her power and what she is capable.

Yet you Arthwyd casually talk about your goddesses even through you worship Arthryn and her Daughters as devoutly as the Forluc worship Nalnir. You will venerate and revere the goddesses and then turn around an make jokes at their expense. You will casually talk about them in crude and vulgar ways and have no qualms talking about them like you would anyone else. Bronwyn's Beauty, even the goddesses get in on it. Arthryn and her Daughters have no qualms about walking about amongst their followers and interacting with them."

"Should I let you know that one of the main ongoing religious debates is about the chest size of the goddesses?" says Wonlyn innocently and sets Evatine off laughing again.

"I can answer that," replies Evatine as she gets her giggles under control, "The lot of them have the same figure as me, but Bronwyn is the largest. You can't really tell how, but you just know that her curves are the biggest in the same way that you just know that her beauty is perfect. I personally think she is using the fact that she is the Goddess of Beauty to make herself the best looking of the goddesses. But yeah, they have a body like mine as they share the same figure as Arthryn and when Arthryn made me her champion, she gave me a copy of her own body. However, Arthryn only looks like this when she wants to look like a goddess. Whenever she visited me while she was pretending to be a mortal, she always had a more mundane figure that didn't stand out."

"Speaking of divine visits, did I ever mention the time that Bronwyn visited me?" inquires Wonlyn.

"She visited you too?" replies Evatine, earning herself a look from Wonlyn.

"I should be surprised, but I guess you would get the attention of multiple deities," says Wonlyn, "Would you mind sharing with me what you did with her?"

"Of course, she and Wyrn came and visited me shortly after I had arrived to welcome into my new home and to help avoid devoting my life to war and war alone," answers Evatine and she lets out a sigh, "I am glad that they did. In hindsight, Wyrn had me dancing to her whims, but she had good intentions in mind and have only benefited from her actions. I got to sleep with Bronwyn a couple of times in exchange for her convincing me to give your courtship a chance and letting her help from behind the scenes."

"Wait, wait, are you saying it is because of Bronwyn that we are lovers?" exclaims Wonlyn, wide-eyed as she stares Bronwyn.

"Aye, her and Wyrn," confirms Evatine, "Without them coming to down to socialise with me, I would have rejected your advances alongside any other potential romances. For that, I am grateful to them."

"Me too," mutters Wonlyn as she lies back against Evatine again, this time resting her head on the bosom of her lover, "I need to give them some extra thanks for my next few prayers. Divine Daughters, I don't know what I would do without you these days."

"Neither do I," agrees Evatine, enjoying watching the head of her love rising and falling alongside her own chest with every breath, "You like them don't you?"

"Your most wonderful mountains?" replies Wonlyn, peering up at Evatine, "Aye, I find them to be the best part of your body. So big and soft. I am grateful that Arthryn gave them to you."

"You ought to be considering you get more usage out of them than I do," says Evatine with a smirk, "You certainly like to grope and squeeze them in bed."

"It would be rude to get so handsy in public," replies Wonlyn as she grins back at the Champion of Arthryn, "Don't mind me being so touchy towards your mountains do you?"

"No," answers Evatine without hesitation, "If I am honest with you, the only reason I keep them so big outside of work is because you enjoy them so. And we are in Greenbay my dearest Won, feel free to enjoy them as you wish whenever I am not working."

"I am not so sex-crazed to grope you in public all the time," snorts Wonlyn with a roll of her eyes, "Do keep them big as possible however. Even if I don't touch, I do love to ogle you all the time and a divine bosom like that should be shown off to the world. Making it smaller outside of practical matters is just diminishing the gift that Arthryn gave you."

"I will keep your preferences in mind," Evatine reassures her as she refrains from laughing at her lover.

"Since we have established that your wonderful mountains are the best part of your body, what is my best part?" asks Wonlyn.

"I am sure that most others will proclaim that it is your own bust," answers Evatine, "But personally, I found your inability to get me pregnant to be the best part of your body. I don't plan to get romantically involved with someone who could get me pregnant until the war has been fought and ended."

"I am glad that I am not a man then," says Wonlyn before changing the topic again, "It was Bronwyn who taught me to sleep with another woman. When I started courting you, she came and taught me the art of bedding a woman as a woman."

"And here I thought it was just natural talent," muses Evatine, "I will need to give extra thanks to Bronwyn as well."

"Speaking of the goddesses, you should definitely play them in our performances," says Wonlyn, "We would have fun together and Arthryn's Bountiful Bosom, you are such a perfect fit to represent the goddesses in our performances."

"I will give it a try," answers Evatine, "I could be fun and I would give it a chance if only to make you happy."

@Oshha what is the stance of other boar-people (not ours) toward our enemy here? Disgust, Hatred or something else?

The Boarfolk dislike the Forluc due to their own sense of superiority. Both the Boarfolk and the Forluc believe them to be the chosen of their respective god and inherently superior to anyone else. Because of these conflicting beliefs of superiority, the Forluc and Boarfolk hate each other. It is sort of like a black supremacist and a white supremacist hating each other because they think that their own skin colour is superior and despite the other for thinking the opposite.

I mentioned it in the discord, but I am going to mention it here as well.

I'm not too happy with how the latest side story turned out. It did show what it was supposed to show, but I just feel dissatisfied with it for some reason I can't put my finger on.

I wanted to show Arthwydish culture (performances and stories by the priesthood) in addition to showing the relationship between Evatine and Wonlyn. In particular in regards to their relationship, I wanted to show that Evatine was a more job-minded person who did non-work things to make their lover happy while Wonlyn is more carefree and doing things for fun and pleasure. Evatine isn't a pushover by any shot, but when it comes to fun and relaxation, it is Wonlyn who calls the shots and not her.

I also wanted to show how the goddesses got viewed in a casual manner relatively to most cultures since people expressed confusion and similar feelings about that in the past when it has come up. talking in crude, vulgar and generally disrespectful ways by RL standards isn't considered disrespectful by the Arthwyd. They revere Arthryn and her Daughters devoutly, but will talk about them like they would anyone else because while they are great and divine, they are still members of the People and the Arthwyd view them as "A member of the People who is also a goddesses".

I also wanted to show that the Arthrynite goddesses will do little interventions rather than being hands off like other deities. While they generally refrain from interfering in the big picture due to Arthryn not wanting to be a tyrant and let people make their own choices and decide their own future, they will regular come down and interfere with someone's life. Nothing major on a civ scale, but when someone or something interests them, the Arthrynite goddesses will get personally involved.

Edit: This post is a bit telling rather than showing, but I am worried I didn't do the showing right.

Maybe it's because it comes of as a bit too "expositiony" at times? I mean, at certain times it seems like Wontyn acts a bit like a tour guide.

Maybe. I just don't think this sidestory was too well written even after going through it a couple of times. I even delayed it to try and rewrite it was meant to be posted before the last update, but in the end, I couldn't fix it to my likings so I just went ahead and posted it.

I also want to say that Arthrynite blasphemy is very relaxed compared to RL counterparts. Arthrynite blasphemy as officially stated by the goddesses and the priesthood amounts to lying about the goddesses. You can be profane, lewd or disrespectfully to them all you want, but only deliberately factually incorrect is punished. That said, being insulting and disrespectfully towards the goddesses carries bad social repercussions for you due to the highly religious and devout nature of Arthwyd society, but only actually lying about them and misrepresenting them is explicitly forbidden.

While the situation is more nuanced in practice, the official stance of the Arthrynite religion is that only wilfully misrepresenting facts about the goddesses, their actions and their words is blasphemy.
