Metal is way too good a tech to not jump on ASAP. Urth is not actually that dangerous, since he lacks many capable warriors. Boarfolk led by Vervov's grandson are extremely dangerous and need to be dealt with however we can.
Dude, you voted for both Midland votes by accident.

Well, having copper without smelting it isn't really useful at the moment... Not sure if that means experimenting with what's been discovered or not though.

We discovered LEAD smelting. If we experiment we'd get Silver(because it shares an ore with lead)
We found native copper, aka copper in a naturally metallic form.

If we want to get copper we need to burn another rock

well I mean, if we have copper, and we experiment with the things we have, that'd include the copper right? I don't really know much about smelting that Runecraft doesn't tell you.

Hmmm...
We are at war.
We just discovered smelting.
Perhaps Evalyn becomes a goddess of fire and blood?

A collection of Zaradysh and Free Folk with some nomad tribes mixed in,
Is this supposed to be the Freak Folk, and does it refer to the birdfolk? Or is there another civ called the Free Folk?

well I mean, if we have copper, and we experiment with the things we have, that'd include the copper right? I don't really know much about smelting that Runecraft doesn't tell you.
Simplified;
We have copper, the metal, but not copper, the ore. Ore is the metal mixed with other stuff to form rocks.
We find bits of naturally metal copper and we can use it, but we have no idea that any rocks contain copper let alone which ones.
Our people have discovered heating this type of rock (lead ore) very hot separates lead from the other stuff in the rock.
That type of rock (lead ore) could be one also containing sliver, so experimenting with that rock could reveal sliver. But lead ore will not give us copper no matter what we do to that rock.
If we test other rocks, we might possibly test one that is a copper ore. Then we will be able to identify which rocks contain copper, and get the copper out of those rocks.

Yep. And for those who don't know, metallic copper occurs in nature.
If you didn't know about metals you wouldn't even think you could melt copper either, since it takes more heat than a campfire offers(but not our pottery kilns)

What I wrote in the update is accurate. How it relates to other things you are asking about is unknown to the People right now.

Erm wow, so I guess if you're a civilisation that didn't do a lot of war the best way to git good is to fight a generation long war resisting conquest involving many heros and then have a bunch of starving refugees pick a fight.

Pretty much through not so much the last bit. The fight against the Boarfolk as turned the People from a culture that distained war and martial pursuits into a society that understands the necessity of being good at warfare and being able to properly defend yourselves. As result, the People will leave the epic age with a cadre of elite holy warriors who are a cut above the average warrior and wield magics into battle. At the moment, you have that, but they are formed around a core of battle-harden veterans and led by the greatest military leader that the People have ever had and arguably the greatest currently alive (not the greatest in history as Evalyn would be outmatched by some people that are currently dead).

Meanwhile the Midlanders are still recovering from the Lowland Apocalypse and have taken losses at the hands of Urth. Between those two things, they don't have any institutional military experience left and pretty all of their proper warriors were dead before Evalyn tore through the armies that Urth forced them to send north.

So basically the fight between Evalyn and the Midlanders was veteran magic-wielding holy warriors lead by the arguably the greatest military leader alive versus some ragtag militias of conscripted warriors.

With the other fights, Cerwyn got lucky to a degree as Vasov was focused on the east while she was launching an uprising the west and Cadyn isn't winning against Urth even if he is holding the line for now.

But yes, a few decades of war whilst keeping your military mostly alive for the duration of the war would allow you to get good at warfare when you weren't before.

You won't be getting bronze. That would be too much of a tech leap from right after discovering smelting.

Okay everyone.

Now this line has been bothering me.

As such, I am changing my vote to send Evalyn to the North. Things are about to get a lot tougher for the Merntir and we know Cadyn is holding the line.

What shall Evalyn do with the Midlanders?
[X] [Midland] Leave the midlanders be, free of Urth's rule. (Leave the Midlanders alone.)

How shall the Arthwyd support the Merntir?
[X] [Merntir] Food & Warriors. Support the Merntir as best you can by sending both warriors and food to aid them. (-1 Temp Martial & -1 Temp Econ)

What shall happen with the Merntir refugees?
[X] [Refugee] They can return to the Merntir (Refugees go back to the Merntir, lose status Merntir Refugees.)

Where shall Evalyn go?
[X] [Evalyn] North. Aid Cerwyn in defeating the Boarfolk and freeing the Merntir.

Shall the People devote efforts to unlocking the secrets of the shiny rocks?
[X] [Rock] Yes. See if other rocks can produce similar secrets. (-2 Temp Econ, Chance of Innovation)

I believe that is a bad idea for two reasons.
One, Evelyn is closer to Cadyn location wise, and thus it should be much quicker for her to reinforce him then it would be to traverse the mountains to reinforce Cerwyn.

Two, Cadyn is shown as "holding the line, but not winning" while Cerwyn is shown as handily winning against the Boarfolk even without our support. Now, this likely won't stay the case once Vasov returns, but with the reinforcements of both the Warriors and the refugees (which is a total of about two martial worth of fighting force) that should even the odds for her.

Edit: Plus, as said in the update, while Versov is hated and the nomads and general are seen as enemies of the People, Urth is basically the closest thing the Arthwyd have to the Devil in the flesh. A barbarian cadaver powered by dark magics bent on conquest and subjugation. It would make sense for us to concentrate more manpower on defeating him.

Thing is, we know the Boarfolk can crush us. Cerwyn isn't kicking Boarfolk ass because of some magical new tech or strategy. She's leading a popular uprising against an unprepared occupying force. But once things go well enough that it becomes less insurgency and more open war, things will likely go bad again. I want to send Evelyn North to as much damage as quickly as possible in the hope that we can send the Boarfolk into actual retreat.

We know that Vervov could kick our ass, and he did so consistently through pure ability to draw upon nigh unlimited reserves and martial prowess. Being a Genius Martial Heroic Diplo lets you do bullshit like that.

Versov, while having some legitimacy as the grandson of Vervov, isn't nearly as bullshit as his grandfather was. It will likely take him longer to gather men for his horde, and the current style of fighting (largely taking over cities/villages) isn't nearly as advantageous for the nomads (who were used to being able to choose engagement with their greatly superior mobility). Our warriors slaughtered theirs whenever they fought; the nomads just had so many more than we do.

Note that he is still a Martial Hero so even if he isn't as good as Vervov, Vasov is still a serious threat.
Of course; sorry if anyone got the impression that I didn't think he was a grave threat.

I think Evelyn says it better than I could:
"Evalyn did not think it possible, but there was an even greater evil than the Boarfolk threatening the People as for all of the vile deeds that Vervov did, he never reached the depths of evil that the most ancient and terrible Urth did."
