I think the Freak Folk might be the Boars
This quote from the QM implies there are more than one type of nonhumans:

"So a few things, you got some basic magic from Arthryn while the Merntir (and therefore you) have had their first encounter with the nomads, which is also your first encounter with sapient nonhumans."

So I'm assuming that while the Freak Folk could be Boars, they could also be a host of other things, from lizardmen to elves to gnolls or anything in between.

You know your vote will end with us unable to pay for any of the golden age actions without severe risk of losing our golden age yes?
Oh no, if we pick this bonus now we might not be able to pick a bonus later!

There are a lot of things and events that can change our resource levels by the time the midturn comes around and losing a Golden Age is not the end of the world.

Or worse, they could be egalitarian atheistic democrats!

What more freakish an abomination could possibly be imagined!?

I agree that its not, and that things could change, I just don't see the point in actively trying to remove our ability to get bonuses. Why not try and extend the golden-age and milk it for as many different benefits as we can?

Because that would mean we wouldn't get the trails now?

And if you don't build trails regularly, you risk waking up the Road Faction, and they can get kinda cranky when ignored.
(plus, you know, the administrative penalties that come with an insufficient network, but the Road Faction is more terrifying!)

Okay, if the road faction is such a big deal, then get that done, and venerate, since we need the mystic and culture to be able to comfortable afford the bonuses. We'll have to get more econ later.

Oh good we avoided the passage this turn.
Bullet dodged, and we can profit off of this golden age rather well with trails and greenbay is halfway towards the goal.

We still don't know for sure what ends a golden age, so any plans that count on keeping the golden age have to deal with that uncertainty.

You are right, which is why my plan ensured that we always kept at least 1 for each stat we have anything in, because we don't know if going to zero ends it. Big reason why I wanted to get the baby boom now, it'd be the biggest long term benefit we could get, but that doesn't seem like it'll happen, and so now, we likely won't have a golden age after this turn. Which, isn't the worst thing, but is really disappointing, since we could have gotten so much out of it.

Two things to say here:

First, don't count your chickens before they hatch, Oshha hasn't closed the vote yet.
Second, it's in bad taste to crow about your victories in such an unpleasant fashion; and even worse to do so before said victory is certain.

That is all.

To your first point, fair enough.
To your second, I wasn't trying to brag, more so it was relief. Though you are right, its too early to feel relieved when we could still head the other way with a vote swing.
Sorry if it came off as anything but.

issue here, I'm more than a little worried that getting any of our numbered stats to 0 will end our golden age. If it does, our golden age can't last past this turn unless we get very lucky with current votes.

given our stats, is it possible to substitute the baby boom with mil tech?
it'll make sure we have some martial tech (and turn that 0 into a one on that stat list)
we should be able to do it and still do it and get by over the next few turns with the same plan no?

I've noticed that because there seem to often be competing [SEC] votes there's some incentive to vote for the same [SEC] action twice rather than a [MAIN] for that action that is definitely not going to win, if the [MAIN] is just a doubling of the [SEC] mechanical effects.
