When someone is forced between hard choices and a need to sacrifice something, it is because they have not found the correct trail on which to travel.
Pros: More options when facing a crises.
Cons: More things are considered a crises by your population.

Primitive Despotic Tribe:
A form of government where there is one individual who the tribe all look to for jobs and chores to do. This individual does not have any tradition that gives them a leadership over the Tribe, but there is something about the culture that puts an immense amount of power in their hands to the point where there might as well be.

River Valley: A large river flanked by heavily wooded hills. It is the current residence of your family.

Sky Stone Camp: The site of a tribe that lives far up the Great River Valley, known for their immense talent seeing the world through the stones.

Mistward Bay: A large bay that lies towards the mist, where there are plenty of fish to feed the Tribe.

Ocean Forest: A large forest, seemingly sunk into the ocean, full of bugs and strange creatures. Also very hard to navigate.

Coldward Coast: A rocky coastline that lies away from The Mist with strange, hard to predict waters and no safe place to land a raft.

The Mist: A distant white cloud along one shoreline, reminiscent of the crests of waves. It takes up much of the horizon and warm winds seem to come from this direction.

Someone else can compare. I miss things.

[x][Scout] Use the rafts to explore the Mistward Ocean Forest
[x][Scout] Use the rafts to train their kits on the Coldward Wild Oceans

Would prefer to wait with the migration until we either have better boats and can thus retain access to existing resource sites, or found alternatives near the new settlement site.

[X][Scout] Use the rafts to train their kits on the Coldward Wild Oceans

best option

[X][Scout] Stay put, make tools

2nd best option

simply put, I strongly recommend we do not migrate to the bay, our biggest limiter currently is our productivity. We are getting enough food atm for at least moderate pop growth, but we need either more useful tech/values or more industry.

remember guys, the core things that make a nation powerful and it needs the most in order go like this.

1) Population/food for that population

2) A powerful Economy (Monetary economy is a useful short term boost but long term you need an industry focused economy) and the resources to fuel it.

3) Technology

These are what make a nation powerful, though having the less important parts far in excess of anyone else can put your nation ahead of nations with the first 2 parts, this will eventually collapse as technology is easier to be copied than to get new tech, and its easier to build up industry than it is to get a bigger population.

This is why in real life China is surpassing USA now, and why Britain once surpassed the other European powers, but nearly fell to Germany and would have without its Colonies.

Uh...by your own logic you want the bay so you can actually have the population to acquire secondary sites.
Current ocean training is ineffective because our boats are too small, because we find the sea too risky to use them heavily.

If you want Population, you go where a large amount of high quality food can be obtained from the environment. If you want technology, particularly better boats, you go where we need to use a lot of boat to get at a natural advantage and in the bay, more boats directly translates to more food and population until we max it out.

yes going to the bay helps boost pop a bit, BUT IT KILLS OUR INDUSTRY!

also we have enough food to spur population growth currently, and I don't know the QM well enough to guarantee that more food will boost population more. As for the cliff area, I am hoping training there will spur the growth of our rafts to be more resistant to rough weather and the like, along with cultural values which are basically technology with how they work in these quests anyway.

Interesting quest. Hmm. If this takes place on an alternate Earth, then we're probably on the Pacific Northwest coast, during the beginning of an Ice Age, as we migrated from Alaska.

It doesn't. Our current location has little tool stone worth using. The bay is not a downgrade, it just gives us a new terrain to search in. We're more likely to improve our tool industry by moving and unlocking new areas to explore than to double down on the poor starting location, with poor harbor and poor hunting.

Yes. Yesssss. Discuss things more, weigh the pros and cons of actions to determine what to do.

Things are proceeding as planned.
*Insert evil laughter here*
Anyways, to tease people with stuff happening elsewhere in the world, in a very isolated biome, some scary ass beastfolk exist and have gone into a massive war with each other that has roughly settled into two sides forming. I should have figured that I was basically creating a thunderdome when I made the place, but somehow that didn't occur to me at the time.

Also, I'm curious, what do people think The Mist is? Anyone been forming theories in the back of their head?

Just gonna point out that migrate and stay put are currently tied, so could someone else vote for one of them?

[X][Scout] Stay put, make tools

edit: Sigh, closer ties suck, but are the string more tools bring. I'm too impatient for better tools. Yet, moving may cause our connection to the overlords to fade, in exchange for being a food basket potentially dependent on our overlord.

Huh, you got that in rather just in time, though it was winning anyways.

Locking vote. Winning option is to hit rocks with other rocks.

Well, They had nothing else to do

Well, They had nothing else to do
The discovery of the fish bay was one that excited and enticed many to move the camp to the new found land. How much easier would their life be if they could just bring a raft out into the water to get food whenever they wanted, without fear of large waves sinking them?

The elders and crafters, however, pointed out that they would move away from the stone outcrop that they would need to maintain many of those rafts.

There were also the many young foxes that were excited about the concept of learning to raft in the wild Coldwards Ocean. Those who had gone told any that would listen of the fascinating waves, how they would twist and turn as they moved between the rocks that jutted out in the coast, and many dreamed of how, if they could master such a chaotic environment, then surely they would be able to sail out into the deep waters and handle the waves there.

The elders merely rolled their eyes at the young kits exuberance and the crafters complained they needed the tools for other things.

Extra tools. Rafts took tools, shelters took tools, all tasks, in fact, seemed to require tools to some degree. At the end of the day, it always seemed to come back to the foxes needing more stone tools. If the foxes wanted to be able to do things, they'd need more tools and so they set out and produced just that.

Perhaps what happened over the next few changes in the winds was because of the stories of the wild waters that many had heard at the fireside from their parents. Perhaps it was the nature of fishing, that it would attract those who would chase their dreams. Or, perhaps it was something to do with the ocean, that it stretched for as far as the eye could see, yet hid so much from the world. One thing was sure, many of the male foxes were bored as the vixens busied themselves with making many extra stone tools.

And so, a certain eagerness began to take over the foxes that went out to sea to fish and every time one of them returned with a fish that was larger than any had caught before, the others quickly set out in a show of competition to try and best that fox.

Each time the fish needed to be bigger, more impressive, and it wasn't before long that many were telling obviously fanciful tales of how a fish that would have put all others to shame had gotten away.

As this continued, more foxes volunteered for fishing jobs and many of those who preferred hunting became put out at the shift in attention. They started telling their own tales, bringing their own prizes and hunting even more dangerous animals to show off to the other foxes and prove that hunting was just as amazing as fishing, if not more so.

To many of the vixens and the few men who stayed back at camp, working on the tools that allowed the foxes to live the life the way they did, it all seemed rather amusing, if somewhat exasperating that so many grown foxes were acting like kits. That they had to listen to the elderly, male and vixen alike, talk about how men in their day knew responsibility and would work together rather than playing this silly game certainly didn't help with the latter.

Most knew they were just jealous of the younger generation.

It was all starting to get out of hand, but before things could take off and escalate further, the foxes received a reading from the Sky Stone Tribe and a new topic of interest swept through the camp to distract them. The stones had revealed that the time was right to build a proper camp, one with much better shelters so that the foxes could live more comfortably.

Building a more permanent camp was something that was on many of the foxes minds already and with the stones showing giving them guidance to do just that, excitement in the camp began to grow. As they discussed their plans for how and where to best build their camp, however, it quickly became apparent that many had come away with believing the Sky Stone Tribe meant something else.

Many argued that their current location was the best and likely most intended site. After all, if the Sky Stone Tribe meant for them to build a camp at other locations, then surely they would have said that the camp was best suited for a singular location. They probably didn't even think they were considering other locations.

Many of the fishers on the other hand, insisted that it must be on the bay, where the fish were plentiful and easy to catch. The stones were clearly showing them it was a good time for them to set up a more permanent lodging, and what better place could there possibly be than the best source of food they had? Surely if they were to build a camp for the foxes, that would make the most sense.

Then the crafters pointed out that while many places had food, only one place had good quality stone for making their tools. Since tools were a backbone to much of their society, it would undoubtedly benefit them the most to move there.

There was also some talk that, maybe the Sky Stone Tribe wasn't right about their stone readings since they were so vague. From the stories of the past, they had supposedly saved the foxes many times, but a few were suspicious of how much that was true or if the current members of the Sky Stone Tribe were even as talented as the past ones. Perhaps they had read the stones wrong and it would be best if they went and did their own thing instead?

Choose two actions from the list bellow to do. Use the [Action] tag to denote your choices for this and put a x2 next to any option you wish to take a second time.

Special: The Sky Stone Tribe's quest for you this time is to perform a New Camp action.

  • Be Creative: Encourage discussion, storytelling, whatever people can think of in order to enrich the lives of your people.
  • Build Rafts: Use tools to make extra rafts to allow you to travel much farther to get far away resources and explore further, as long as it is along a waterway.
  • Craft Ornaments: Create extra decorative pieces with which to adorn people and their dwellings.
  • Craft Tools: Create a stockpile of tools with which to work on major projects.
  • Forget Story: Some songs are best forgotten, ornaments best left buried where the next generation can't see. Make an effort to forget several traditions. (Current Targets Available: A Better Way)
  • Insult: Show your greatness by insulting another group and showing they can not respond to you. (Current Target Available: Sky Stone Tribe)
  • Meet: Sit down and talk with a group to exchange stories and gifts. (Current Target Available: Sky Stone Tribe)
  • Migrate: Perhaps, this land is not good for your people. Migrate to a new land. (Current Targets Available: White Mist Coast, the Rocky Mountain Coast, Upriver)
  • New Camp: Use tools to construct more permanent shelters so your Foxes can live more comfortably. (Target Location: Great River Mouth, Stone Outcrop, Fish Bay)
  • Raid: Someone has stuff that you want or need. Go take it. (Current Target Available: Sky Stone Tribe)
  • Refine Story: Discuss the true meaning of a story and how your family should interpret it. (Current Target Available: A Better Way)
  • Scout: Explore your surroundings to see what you can find.
  • Tell New Story: Songs can be steered to teach new lessons and ornaments new meanings where they had none before.
Hint: Due to your small size, you can not make a New Camp in a location without migrating to it unless you are already in that location.

QM/N: Bleh, not too happy with this, but I don't know if my standards are getting higher as I update or if my quality is slipping. Either way, I really don't want to fall into the trap of no update because I'm being picky. I do think I'm improving on the update process though, so hopefully I am on my way to good quality updates. Got a few ideas to try for the process in the next one, though we'll have to see what happens this turn.

[X] New Camp: current location
[X] Craft Tools

We cant go to the fish bay without migrating so all other plans are invalid.

I believe we are at the great river mouth @bluefur87 please confirm.

[X] [Action] New Camp: Fish Bay

Settling where more food is should lead to more foxes and I think it's time for us to develop our own stories.

[X] [Action] New Camp: Fish Bay
[X] [Action] Build Rafts

Yep. We need that food boost to get the pop boost so we can move beyond a One Camp Wonder

Sigh, a hint that tells us we should use a migrate action. Yet, we can still make a camp without the migrate action. I smell brimstone.
