[X][Action] Tell New Story
[x][Camp] Boundary

I think a new story might be a good idea. It would memorialize an important event in the migration. Perhaps we'll get a useful value out of it since it required a lot of cooperation and trust to make the migration work.

As far as the camp goes, I'm not sure which location is best. Boundary seems good for access to both bodies of water. Mountain sounds like it would be very easy to defend in times of war but might not be good for agriculture.

Okay, so we found a coral reef, the Mist is sort of spoopy.

[][Mission] Hunt a Big Fish

We're relatively well situated for this. We have max rafts and a strong marine tradition by now, but big fishes needs new kinds of boats. New kinds of boats needs new kinds of tools.

[][Mission] Reach Max Pop.

Emphasize population growth. This is simply common sense in the stone age. More population = more failure resistance at the tribal level. Of course, it'd be a problem later on.
More people, more problems after all.

[][Mission] Find a New Tribe
[][Mission] Go Beyond the Mist

Both of these are exploration actions. We're likely to lose people we can't afford to lose trying.

Choose a place to set up Camp:
[][Camp] Colored Ocean

-Coral reef
-Lots of fish, good for population
-Coral reefs are great for making ornaments
-No tool stone around reefs.
-Poor wood around reefs.
-Storms

[][Camp] Boundary

-Where the continental shelf drops off, which means a churn of nutrients that lures a lot of fish
-Bigger fish means its both more rewarding and more dangerous to go fishing
-Taller trees are more suited to shipbuilding
-No large land animals
-No notable tool stone

[][Camp] Mist Mountain

-Mountain has easy access to tool stone
-Mist is a problem for maintaining multiple camps
-Freshwater lake
-Plenty of fishing

[X][Mission] Hunt a Big Fish
[X][Camp] Boundary
[X][Action] New Camp(Boundary)
[X][Action] Refine Story(Together)

Uh guys, we need to take an action to build a camp.
And this sounds like a good place to refine the unity story, since thats how we made it this time.

I wonder why that could be...

Don't get me wrong, it's a very strong trait. It's also, you know, prone to making everything seem on fire all the time also. And the particular combination of it with Together makes the situation even more volatile.

Now, let's make sure I actually updated the sheet properly last night...

Right, so you have 'Early Tribal Ornaments', and I forgot to take out the flint outcrop. Technically I should take out the Fishing Grounds resource too, since you haven't actually picked a location, but since all of them have fairly obvious fishing grounds near them, I feel it's safe to keep that.

Other than that, sheet looks right. I am going to have to finish up my system changes, however, since you all seem to be unknowingly falling ass backwards into something important. Most of it's behind the scenes, so you're unlikely to notice said system changes.

If we keep both Together and One's Own Way, will our people eventually figure out how to make them get along? :p

Locking Vote, we have our winners and game interest seems to be dying out, though we're paradoxically getting more actual discussion than we've been having the last few updates.

Ah well. Looks like you're aiming to go fishing, setting up camp on the middle ground, and refining a story.

More than the Whole
[Mission] Hunt a Big Fish

[Camp] Boundary

[Action] New Camp(Boundary)
[Action] Refine Story(Together)
More than the Whole
Unable to be sure as to where the best location would be in the long term for their camp, The Foxes decided it would be best to set up their camp at the Boundary for now, in an attempt to get their bearings in these new oceans. And now that they had their location picked out, the first thing they went about doing was setting up their new camp.

Foxes went out into the woods to strip branches off of the trees that they could to weave and bind into walls and roofs, supported by what fallen logs they could find, then trimmed and sunk into holes dug in the ground. It was a long undertaking, one that had them go through many of their tools, and an interesting setback occurred when many of the foxes could have sworn that the ground shook, causing a shelter that was being set up at the time to fall over, along with many of the foxes.

Of course, the idea that the ground was capable of shaking like that was silly, even if this was a strange land, and the foxes responsible for setting up the shelter were scolded by more than one elder for making up fanciful tales to attempt to excuse their clumsiness.

The strangeness continued a few days later, though, when the ocean suddenly came up much higher than normal for awhile, but before any fox could think about it, the change was gone and many were rather confused as to whether or not they were imagining it. Oddly, however, no one in the tribe could find themselves worried about the situation, and indeed many seemed to be filled with extra energy from all of the excited curiosity going around about the happenings.

As the years went on and The Foxes continued expanding their camp, however, it eventually became apparent that they had more foxes than could be fit into a single camp. The result was that many families were living a little ways away from the camp in ramshackle shelters that were put up with what resources they could find laying around rather than well trimmed branches made with good tools. And since many of these foxes weren't actually using the main camp proper a lot of the time, this caused many of the rafts to go unused.

There was talk amongst the fishers of what to do with these excess rafts, many believing that it would be best to just let the foxes that lived away from the camp to have them. They were likely more in need of the extra rafts, after all, and many still considered them to be part of the tribe, even if they weren't actually living in the camp.

Other foxes pointed out that they could take the extra rafts out into the Deep Ocean and attempt to hunt the Big Fish, something that was being passed around more and more as a dream of the fishers, to show their strength and feats by catching such large prey.

Another, rather interesting idea, was that the limit of the number of foxes that should be fishing should be lifted by the tribe. Some foxes argued that this was not good for the community, as someone had to be making tools for the Tribe, but others argued that perhaps it was best for every fox to know how to do every kind of job.

Lastly, there were foxes that wanted to run the extra rafts ragged in scouting out as much of the large body of river like water in The Mist, what they had taken to calling Mountain Sea, as possible. Many of the foxes were concerned that this would result in the loss of more foxes than it would rafts, however, though they all thought it would probably be best to explore something near them eventually.

In the end, the foxes decided to...
[][React] Send the extra rafts to those outside of the camp
[][React] Fish for Big Fish
[][React] Teach every fox to fish
[][React] Scout Mountain Sea

Finally, the elders had taken to the idea of refining the stories that told of the foxes and how they worked together with great enthusiasm thanks to the great success of working together to escape the Cold Winds to these new oceans. Their tellings of the stories were long and highly detailed, but there was some argument as to what exactly the stories should focus on.

To some, that the foxes all banded together when faced with adversity was the most inspiring, the most important lesson they wanted to impart in their stories.

Others considered the importance of the many objects that the foxes used, and that even now one in particular was used to denote the best of the fishers, and how these objects could inspire and direct foxes to overcome adversity was the most important of lessons.

Lastly, there were others that pointed out that it was through the best fisher's guidance that they were able to have guidance and do far more than they would otherwise.

The lesson that the foxes decided to impart was the importance of...
[][Story] Banding together in face of a threat
[][Story] The power of symbols
[][Story] The strength of guidance

Hint: The nature of this quest is the idea of exploration of the unknown that all civilizations face, not only in figuring out what the next age is going to be, but how to solve the problems of their current one. As such, I highly encourage players to look over and discuss things in a proactive manner even, especially in fact, if they are unsure of what is happening or feel like they have little to contribute. Even a little bit can help others and asking questions is important to figuring things out.

The AI's have gotten enough experience that some of them will cease playing reactively, as the players have been, and move these successful ones to more proactive play based on where they've had said successes.

This will take a few turns to kick in, and you may or may not be near them, but they are going to be stepping up their game.

QM/Note: I know I keep on saying this, but I do hope people are enjoying this quest.

Reminder that I'm going to be away for Friday and Monday, so next update will be a week from today.

These're the ones I think are best right now, though I'm open to be swayed.

If we teach every fox to fish, then we can say goodbye to almost all tool production and progress. Also, we really need to scout out new resources, particularly flint so that we can actually make decent quality tools again.

@bluefur87 Can we make tech progress on boating right now?
Most foxes don't think you can, though a few insist that since logs can float, they can make nice and easy made rafts. Others point out to them that said logs are impossible to steer and they aren't sure how to fix that and not go through an absurd amount of tools.

I mean, sure it's neat, but why waste the tools? Would that even be a better raft?

In short, we can make canoes and oars but the thought hasn't yet occured to us.

[X][React] Send the extra rafts to those outside of the camp

Eh, I'll vote for this, too.

Tectonically active zone eh?

[][React] Send the extra rafts to those outside of the camp

Reinforces Together. Our people are Our people.
Also puts the rafts to use filling a need so that the secondary camp grows faster.

[][React] Fish for Big Fish

Won't really work. We need better rafts to get the things back.

[][React] Teach every fox to fish

Really bad idea. Specialization is king. Teaching every fox to fish means being worse at everything else because our artisans and leaders have to spend extra time doing subsistence foraging.

[][React] Scout Mountain Sea

Explore the nearby lake. Not a bad idea.

[][Story] Banding together in face of a threat

Emphasis on unity. Some conflict with A Better Way(since it narrows the Ways if you aren't allowed to break ranks in a crisis)

[][Story] The power of symbols

Symbolic legitimacy. The ability to put your allegiance towards the abstract of tribe and crown. No conflict with A Better Way, you can strive for the benefit of the whole even as you act alone.

[][Story] The strength of guidance

Strong conflict with A Better Way. One says you should listen to your betters. The other says you should find how to do better yourself.

[X][Story] Banding together in face of a threat

I'm really liking this choice.
It emphasizes the foxes sticking together and trying to defeat or escape from a threat together, instead of just having small groups sneak off in the middle of the night without telling anyone.

And since our foxes consider most things to be a crisis, it should help us with every day tough situations as well as actual life threatening ones.

[X][React] Send the extra rafts to those outside of the camp
[X][Story] Banding together in face of a threat

Hopefully this should allow for the creation of a new camp while still encouraging people to stay in close contact so we don't end up fragmenting.
