[X] Plan Triple Zero

They landed their reinforcements. Therefore the forces being teleported into Dis are teleporting from sites on the surface. We should bomb those positions. Our space harassment forces should make show of sniping transports too. In both cases the actual damage is secondary to sending a message that sheer numbers are starting to worry us. The idea being to encourage them to fixate on this assault and send off for wave 3 to reinforce it.

Very doubtful that'll happen.

I think they know at this point their fleet is too bashed for them to risk sending off for another wave, I'd guess they'll just try to take as may of our ships with them as possible.

Here the plans:
[X] Plan Triple Zero
-[X] On the walls of District 000- Another major defensive location and one that buys you a lot of time. However it also lets most of a Chapter of Astartes get worryingly close to both your center of government and to Saint Lin. Note that the Abomination forces will start deploying Assassins here.
-[X] Let the Varangian Guard engage the Emperor's Talons- The two companies of the Varangian Guard on Avernus are eager to face their traitor kin, and due to the advanced weaponry that they are equipped with should be able to take on more then their number of Astartes, however you will have to assign several heroes to assist them in killing he Chaos Lords.
-[X] Lead the Governor's Own to engage the Emperor's Talons- The Governor's Own are the greatest soldiers of Avernus, and you are confident that you could take out the Emperor's Talons if you led them into battle. However this will require that you take your attention away from the main battle for a period.
-[X] Heroes: Rotbart, Xavier, Jane, Aryz, Aria
-[X] Bloody Retreat- You could deploy large numbers of your better soldiers to the walls as they come under attack, forcing the enemy to suffer massive casualties as they take the walls which would probably take most of a day. -This would lead to the Abomination forces being slower to move into Dis.
-[X] Psykers
--[X] Have Ridcully rest until the battle with the Emperor's Talons is about to start, and join the choirs in assisting
--[X] Have the Diviner Choirs 1,2 and Tamia+Telepathy Choirs 1,2 locate assassins.
--[X] Have Pyromancy Choirs 1,2, Biomancer Choirs 1,2 and Telekinetic Choirs 1,2 supporting the forces fighting the Emperor's Talons.
--[X] Have Daemonologist Choir 2 work on dispelling and counter-telepathy. Supported by Lulana.
--[X] Have Sirens working against assassins and Astartes
--[X] Have the Primaris Execution Force put on anti-assassin duty
-[X] Use electronic warfare against the enemy
[X] Plan Early Stop
-[X] On the walls of District 145
-[X] Let the Varangian Guard engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] Lead the Governor's Own to engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] Deploy Battle Psykers to engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] Deploy the Death's Harbringers to engage the Emperor's Talons in a supporting role.
-[X] have Rotbart (plus Odysseus and Ajax with the Own), Xavier, Mittens, Aria, Jane, and Aryz engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] Have the Phase Tigers, the veteran psyker infiltration regiment, and the trolls continue to pick off isolated Astares Squads. Have Xavier and Mittens assist as well until they reach their maximum sustainable effort level if the Talon push on the walls of district 145 ends before then.
-[X] with the exception of the Scry and Fry teams and those assigned to the Lord-hunt, choir assignment to continue as before at maximum sustainable effort (Support Troops/Fortifications: both Biomancer Choirs, 1st Telekinetic Choir, Troll Geomancers. Dispel/Counter-telepathy: Lulana & Both Daemonology Choir, Tamia & Both Telepathy Choirs. Banishing/hunting Daemons: Sirens. 2nd Diviner Choir: support Phase Tiger pickoff efforts.)
-[X] 1st and 2nd Pyromancy Choirs to use powers as needed for tactical support in either of the wall defenses at maximum sustainable effort.
-[X] 1st Diviner Choir to support defense against the Talons at maximum sustainable effort.
-[X] 2nd Telekinetic Choir to support outer wall defense/retreat at maximum sustainable effort.
-[X] Bloody Retreat- You could deploy large numbers of your better soldiers to the walls as they come under attack, forcing the enemy to suffer massive casualties as they take the walls which would probably take most of a day. -This would lead to the Abomination forces being slower to move into Dis
-[X] Deploy Black Irons to counter the Angyls attacking the walls from the inside
-[X] target Electronic Warfare primarily against Abomination forces within the city.
[X] Plan Symbolic Stop
-[X] On the walls of District 145
-[X] Let the Varangian Guard engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] Lead the Governor's Own to engage the Emperor's Talons
-[X] have Rotbart (plus Odysseus and Ajax with the Own), Xavier, Mittens, Aria, Jane, and Aryz engage the Emperor's Talons

-[X] Symbolic Defence- You could have your forces fight for a brief time to hold the wall before retreating, which would be considered a sign that you are abandoning the outer city. - This would encourage the enemy to move large forces into Dis.
-[X] Deploy Black Irons to counter the Angyls attacking the walls from the inside
-[X] target Electronic Warfare primarily against Abomination forces within the city.
Scince I have quoted you all already I have two questions for you:
1. How about deploying the Knights between District 042 and 012 on a very cautiones stand? Even Astares should have problems with running up to one and destroying it. They could fortify certain positions beyond takeable by infantry and maybe get some potshots of on them. Their main goal would be to forcibly slow down the Emperor's Talons and fall back before they get encircled.
2. How about deploying the Phase Tiger Rider regiments to harrass the districts wich the Astares have already left to push further. Disruptions in their reinforcment routes would forces the Astares to either slow down or overstretch their support (Stormtrooper). If the first happen it is a sucess and if the second happen a few divisions of Helltrooper can push in to cut them off to force them to deal with them first before continueing their push.

@Durin
1. Are we still steadily harassing the troops outside the walls?
2. What made artillery effective in Part 11? Is it just continually doing damage?
3. What losses if any have there been to the chaff units outside the walls?
4. Was the 3 billion figure accurate on how many sacrifices they need to summon the 1st circle?
4.i. Can they do it without the required number?

I ask because we need to bring their total forces down to make them fail the ritual, and so killing chaff is really our best way to do that. We need to get them to the level where we can kill them down below the 3 billion mark before they can complete a summoning.
1. No,now that they are well defended it is not practical
2. The fact that you were firing it for weeks
3. Will be shown in future update
3. No it is closer to1 billion
4. Yes, maybe
Ok, I've made updates to my plan here. Further suggestions welcome as always.

@Durin - since it's a concern for people, what's the quality level of the Eversor assassins?
Similar to your last hunters but with a different focus

@Durin
1. Curiosity question, but how are we healing up Jane and Jacob so quickly? Just super medical tech?
2. More important question What do our Anti Titan forces give as their chances against the Titans if they use the city to their advantage?
3. On the subject of the assassins would it be fair to say that the Last Hunters are more generalists, where as the knock off temple assassins go for a more specialised focus?
4. Curiosity question, how is this going to be perceived by the rest of the Trust? I mean the leaders we can probably tell "oh we didn't crush them because of the First", but what about the general public? What are we going to tell them is the reason behind why we didn't smash the abomination like an egg?
5. A more fun question: How is the Inquisition (in this case Klovis I guess) dealing with the fact that we might get invaded by an Exalted? As a Lord of the Malleus I'd imagine these are situations he's read about?
6. Is Klovis fighting in person?

Minor alteration to plan: Removed the Death's Harbringers from Talon duty. Reasoning was several-fold:
  • Prevents maluses from over-stacking the defenses
  • Due to tech level, Harbringers would have little effect on Marines for their skill level
  • Makes defense seem more last-ditch—the fact that our head strategist himself is getting involved in the fight should make them think that our reserves of elites are more stretched than they are, as well as our remaining anti-assassin measures less effective.

Now I'm curious if we can screw with the Summon Ritual and cause the thing to end up near the Lady of Death.
Probably not, but its a fun idea.

For a start we have no idea where Lady Death's island is :)

We could probably land it close to the World Serpent though...if we're even capable of interfering with the ritual at all...which is a probably not.

Personally I would think throwing the thing near any of Avernus's Great Ones would be something that could backfire spectacularly, so... probably not a good idea even if we could.

Yeah, but it would be fun fire works to watch :).

Though seriously if it is summoned its likely the Great Ones would be called anyway, after all if an exalted doesn't represent a clear and present threat to the planet nothing does.

1. The order of restoration
2, pretty good but not without very heavy casualties
3. Yes
4. You are trusted enough as a general that there will e. O issues with the Trust
5. Not quite panicking

I can almost hear the "yet."

Probebly something best watched from another planu
I have to admit though its a very awesome/funny image.

Just imagine people on the luna cities wondering why Avernus has lit up like a mutlicoloured christmas tree and why they can hear massive explosions all the way from it despite the thousands of miles of vacuum.

@Durin
1. Do our Avernite auxiliaries think the Great Ones would awaken in response to the First being summoned?
2. A bit of an obvious question, but can any psykers we have sense the First in the warp and if so how do they describe it? I'm just trying to ball park.
3. Two odd questions, but first do the Sirens (that we have access too) have any method of soul protection like the Eldar Soul Stones?
4. What are the Trust's opinions on Soul stone like devices?

This is partially motivated by the fact that I'm having a ton of fun with the Tomb Kings constructs (friend of mine let me have a spin)

Bah, I suppose news about potential Exalted Daemon Incursions isn't something to be told to the public. Kinda disappointing that Frederick's military reputation won't get much boost from this victory though.
We can always say there was a super weapon that the enemy would have used if we didn't go for this approach I suppose.

But, yeah telling them that a pretty much literal god would have been summoned to kill us if we hadn't probably wouldn't have ended well.

1. They do
2. Yes, a looming force of nature
3. No
4. Eldar only tech

1. Any guesses as to how many and which?

2. Yes, a looming force of nature
Not great, but better than I expected...which was looming apocalypse.

odd.
2. I take it that means we'll never have the option to develop our own version of it? I mean it is canon that humans can stick themselves in them albeit from rouge trader.

It's the Trust's opinion not canon. Once we get the research results we'll know for sure.

Personally, I'm hyped about building Soul-Dreadnoughts, Spirit-Titans, home-made undead armies, etc.
