Wait, don't we lose the quest if our party is voted out of power? I'm not terribly clear on that point from government-generation...

No. In fact, we can continue even if the commonwealth as a whole no longer exists, either by joining someone who diploannexes is (say, an ascendant California) or iirc by playing another of the options, should we lose outright.

Don't worry. If it ever looks like The sickens will lose control to the communists, we'll just have to kill Rosa Luxembourg :p

No! Not Rosa! NOT AGAIN!

[Shudders in New Capitalist]

[Laughs in Socialist/Communist]

DeLeonism everywhere, everyday, comrade!

Wait, don't we lose the quest if our party is voted out of power? I'm not terribly clear on that point from government-generation...

Why would it? That would actually encourage us towards subverting democracy in order to uphold the status quo.

As far as I recall the loss states are:
1) Victorian boots on our necks.
2) Military control of the Commonwealth/Dictatorship

If a CFLP coalition took power that would probably just change viewpoints and some other things around. (and make me really really pleased > : P)

:mob:If we do get absorbed, we could be the rebels!:mob:
Happy 300 pages! Down with Victoria!

Honestly, in my view, for all the talk about New Capitalists verses Communists, both of those positions are a fairly minority. New Caps are 8%ish and split between "Reagan I guess" and "Basically Obama" at a 1:3 ratio. And as far as communists go, most things that we'd call "Communist" today or during the cold war are dead and buried. Marxist-Leninists, Maoists, and all the rest sit in a sub 1% range out on the fringe where they can be happily consigned to irrelevance.

The big political division (holding over half the total votes between them) in the Commonwealth is actually between American originated Industrial Unionism centered around the IWW/CFLP and "Basically Bernie or Warren" Democratic Socialism.

The balance of power between these two positions is split between two parties whose beliefs are: "Socialism soon fellow workers. Hey kids, did you know Jesus was the OG Socialist?" and "Socialism eventually, not today, not tomorrow, but in the long term. Baby steps citizens."

Absent outside factors I'd expect the Commonwealth to slowly drift towards some sort of mutualist/syndicalist mix of co-ops, industrial federations, and light state intervention via regulation over time and electoral fortunes. (Of course I know that there's A LOT of outside factors that will come to play, but who knows what those have in store. For all we know the NCR are hard core MLMs or some shit.)

The Adventures of General Burns #1: I Hate Illinois Nazis
I like this title better, the other had, at a glance, seemed to say Burns was a Nazi (sure, it is at a glance, but that isn't the thing we want to project and I don't think Burns wants to think he is getting tarred and feathered by the President, that might have a number of issues right there that could complicate the quest...)

New Caps are 8%ish and split between "Reagan I guess" and "Basically Obama" at a 1:3 ratio.
Umm, I'm like 50% confident that Poptart's mentioned or alluded to the idea that pretty much every single New Cap is farther left than Obama and quite a few are a little left of Warren, so dunno if this holds up.

Oi here's a thought. What are the Mounties and their descendants up to? They have access to transportation that would still be viable in a post-apocalyptic world (horses), and on top of that they would be viewed by many as legitimate authorities. Is it possible that Imperial Japan's occupying forces are or will soon be facing raids from mustachioed horsemen with an uncanny ability to fade into the wilderness?

I'm being a bit cagey about NC ideology, mostly out of sadism , but I will freely confirm that a Reagan-style Republican would be pilloried by his (almost invariably, you'll notice, his) party in the modern day of the quest.

Considering that the main NC party is the remains of the Democrats this sounds about right. My Grandparents could hardly be called committed leftists (or leftists at all) but as longtime Democrats even they'd be happy spitting on Reagan's grave.

Speculative Negaverse: America’s Springtime!
It may be a bit premature to ponder the consequences of victory before we've actually won, but I wanted to get this down before I forgot about it.
Italics are the what we see, bold is what people in the Negaverse see.

America's Springtime! / The floodgates open...

Last commissioner of RCMP emerges from hiding! RCMP remnants rally to New Canadian Dominion! / Northern raiders unified under mysterious warlord! Small & isolated communities helpless before Blizzard of Terror!

Nation of Quebec hosts first parliamentary meeting! PM Tremblay: "We shall live in fear no longer!" / Northern Victoria shaken by sudden terrorist attacks! Mouvement pour la souveraineté du Québec claims responsibility for cowardly assault!

New Mexican Federation, Democratic Republic of Floridian Cities announce joint initiative aimed at reclaiming gulf oil derricks! / Gulf stained red as Aztec Pirates, Floridian Anarchists slaughter each other for Black Gold!

New governor of Texas sworn in by overwhelming majority vote! Lone Star Republic officially reforms! / Oil-drilling oligarchs assume control of Texan Republic in rigged election! Texas Rangers purged for refusing to bend the knee!

Ultra-Reactionary "Christian" Protectorate in New Jersey collapses due to internal schism! Victoria's oldest American ally is no more! / New Jersey Protectorate gutted in series of black-ops raids! Unknown agents wage war on religion!

(Edit, inspired by the discussion and Omake below)
Pennsylvania Provisional Government takes hardline stance against Victoria! "No more running! They come here, they die!" / Devil worshippers on the march! Savage clans unite to prey upon innocent Victorians!

QM's note: Remember when I said the blank spaces on the map might be filling in soon? Ladies and gentlemen, there is blood in the water.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna suggest that people's rolls should be slowed considering we're still outnumbered around three to one and out-skilled except for a single brigade, victory is the furthest thing from certain.

@PoptartProdigy do we have any substantial number of divers with access to scuba gear in our naval forces or generally in the Commonwealth?

Wait, which of these is the "our quest" version and which is the "Victoria Quest on 4chan" version?

Because I could see this part going either way?

:p

To be fair, losing Detroit is not automatically losing the war, though we are going to need a crash program to build more warships and train more troops if we have to replace this army.

While we're talking about potential allies, I remember one particular screed Lind had against the urban, working class "white trash" who had been corrupted by modern degeneracy into being no better than blacks and Hispanics, and this manifested in Victoria as the Midwest collapsing into a bunch of punk rock barbarian warlords, which sounds kind of metal, and well, I know this Quest has sort of filed off the wackier parts of Lind's setting but I think there's still room for like, Juggalo warlords tearing around the ruins of western Pennsylvania.

Anyway, when we start pushing into the region I think it'd be worth finding out if any of these guys hate fascists as much as we do.

BRB, writing an omake.

I'm definitely in favor of some punk rock barbarian warlords. The styling just fits.

"I can almost remember what a Juggalo is, but it doesn't really matter. If they kill Viks, they must be doing something right."

Do recall, the Russians are violently opposed to any power rising in the Americas that isn't their client or puppet. Plus, thanks to the wonders of TV tropes sparing me from having to read the actual book, we "know" that the Aztecs took power in Mexico after it's army was routed by the Texas National Guard*. So clearly, the Victorian narrative has Texas continuing to exist as a power, even as they work to break down anything that might develop into a legitimate successor state. Therefore, when a new power arises in the area (necessitating that they crush it), they have to come up with a reason to fear and hate everything in the general vicinity. Hence, the "existing" Republic of Texas getting "taken over" by "Cultural Marxists" in a "rigged election".

*Because of course those dirty Mexicans would come storming across the border when things started going badly in the US.

OK yeah, but the joke was that I could totally see OUR headline reading "Oil-drilling oligarchs assume control of Texan Republic in rigged election! Texas Rangers purged for refusing to bend the knee!" and THEIR headline reading "New governor of Texas sworn in by overwhelming majority vote! Lone Star Republic officially reforms!"

:p
