Star Wars: The Chosen One (An Anakin Skywalker Quest)

Looking at some numbers;
Stats are worth about +5 to a stat per CP.
We got ~3k xp last chapter.
With each level now up needing over 5k

Having Obi-Wan as our master for 10 (base) levels of xp; This becomes 15 levels with the training bonuses.
We'd get +20CP (levels 16-20) +60CP (levels 21-30) for a total of 80CP, or +400 to stats (ignoring other perks)
Total of ~80CP of value

Having Yoda as our master for 5 (base) levels of xp; This becomes 20 levels with the training bonuses.
We'd get +10CP (levels 16-20) +30CP (levels 21-30) +20CP (levels 31-35) for a total of 60CP, or +300 to stats (ignoring other perks)
We also get +6 to every stat per level (I'm assuming it's just attributes for this comparison) for a total of +720 to our attributes. (or 144CP worth)
Total of ~200CP of value

Having Yoda as our master for 10 (base) levels of xp; This becomes 40 levels with the training bonuses.
We'd get +10CP (levels 16-20) +30CP (levels 21-30) +40CP (levels 31-40) +50CP (levels 41-50) +30CP (levels 51-65) for a total of 160CP, or +800 to stats (ignoring other perks)
We also get +6 to every stat per level (I'm assuming it's just attributes for this comparison) for a total of +1440 to our attributes (or 288CP worth).
Total of ~400CP of value

Obi-Wan gives a permanent 1.5exp gain and permanent double CP. We do get faster leveling and more gains so long as Yoda's our master, however his 4exp gain will be lost the moment we become a Knight or leave the order, which will once more slow our progress. The +6 to every stat per level is permanent however. Ultimately I think we'll get more options in the future for permanent bonuses, but CP is important for esoteric Force abilities and to open all sorts of story situations we'd otherwise not get. Getting any permanent bonus that offers more(double) CP every level as well as a permanent way in which our exp fills faster is not to be ignored.

As fast as Yoda'll advance us, I think it would also be frustrating at the end of our apprenticeship to him to slow back down to our current progress, but then again, we'll see. There's time after all to decide our master.

If we leave the jedi after only 5 levels, we'd still be in front CP wise with Yoda, with needing over 5 additional levels to be gained before having Obi-Wan even starts to catch up

True, but if we leave in 5 levels, our progress will slow down and all we'll remain with are the +6 to all stats perk. Yoda advances us very quickly but besides the +6 stats he only gives us a slight advantage.

I for one am not all that taken with Ataru and while Yoda can teach us other forms, only Ataru takes two less turns and as for anything Force related, we still need to unlock them ourselves even if leveling takes one less turn. So we'd still have to vote to train for the first three and four levels, respectively. Creating Holocrons is interesting, but ultimately pointless. The Center of the Force is not bad, however.

Obi-Wan offers permanent bonus to CP and exp gain, but even if they're not very much now, in time they'll add to other bonuses we'll get. Obi-Wan also offers Ataru/Soresu to be learnt in one less turn. Less than Yoda, for certain, and my argument about Ataru also has bearing here, however Soresu isn't actually a bad form to learn, but as this is a personal preference it doesn't have much weight right now.

Ultimately, I think we'll chose depending on our own preferences for both short term and long-term gains as well as roleplay value.

edit: Also the more CP we place in the stat perks the higher the numbers will grow so we'll at one point be looking at +10stat for 1CP, +20stat for 1CP, at most 2CP.

I did the rough math to look at the power curves. Yoda has a very high burst, but falls off later. Obi-Wan has a slow ramp up, but is the most powerful as Anikan's level goes past 40. The question is; What level are the players expecting to be at, by the end of the quest? Are we even going to have time to be able to fully utilize the permanent bonuses from Obi-Wan? How many levels do we have before we expect to have to confront Palpatine?

Edit: on another tangent; what type of character do we want to read about?
Obi-Wan has combat missions, while Yoda has study and training.
Obi-Wan is the "jock" route, while Yoda is the "nerd" route.

I am pretty sure Palpatine is just a Very high level Boss. The End game is probably Aboleth, which will require the mastery of both the light and dark side to win.

We should be able to face Palpatine in a duel at level 40-50, with a reasonable chance at victory if we play things right.

I can't answer for everyone, but the first question should be addressed to the QM and since The Balance Quest pits us agaisnt Abeloth who's numbers are in the thousands as far as some discussions went, well...we'll probably need a high level. As for how many levels we have until we confront Sidious that also depends on whether we tip him off or we realize later on. We could be looking at eighteen years or less, that's a lot of turns somewhere in the low hundreds, but still about there. This of course not counting missions we'll be going on as Padawans. I don't really know what to tell you, I'm more inclined to long-term since Abeloth is the true villain and she's going to be near impossible to defeat.

We may not even have to face palpatine, if we are lucky Mace Windu will kill the old bastard. But I won't count on it

We should probably train with Lyden, before facing Sidious, she is supposed to be on the same league somewhat and have awesome bonuses as well.

Edit : before that we will actually have to figure out IC, who Sidious is...

Rather than face Palpatine alone, I say we surprise him by fighting alongside our Jedi friends.

As I am getting into the quest, my thoughts on every option. Written mostly because there are minmaxing kind of opinions on three best options and it makes me sad

'CANON' 1 CP COST
Name Obi-Wan Kenobi
Rank: Jedi Knight, Guardian
Abilities: Ataru, Soresu, Master Negotiator
Perks of Master: Permanent Double Chosen Point Gain, 1.5XP gain, Learn Ataru/Soresu techniques in 1 Less turns
Types of Missions: Combat, Off World
Permanent double chosen point is nothing to laugh about and it is a solid option
Storywise I am not very interested in Anakin\Obi Wan interactions

Anakin lightsaber user God. This looks like a way to make a specialist. I think even from minmaxing point of view he may be better for this specialization than even Windu, he gives more combat related attributes and missions will be focused on combat instead on spending a lot of time on politics and that can compensate less CP and XP

Name: Yarael Poof

Yoda is Yoda, nothing to add

We only get a master after 3 years of initiate training correct? Wouldn't it be a good idea to get Center of the Force and one of its follow up perks before then. Otherwise we will have spent 3 years not advancing that perk line which is a very rewarding one.

The story perks will allow us a foot in the senate if we ever need one, and this is likely our last chance to meet padme, who can prove to be a good ally later once she becomes a senator.

Exploring the Jedi temple is also something we should do as soon as possible, it will likely give us further options in the next turn. It may allow us to advance even faster.

The story perks also provide plot hooks and frankly, are far more interesting then stat boost. This turn we will have completed the time sensitive story perks, later we should have free reign to grind our stats.

Ultimately, I want to see more character interaction rather then simply grinding away stats we don't need right now.

Charisma + Wisdom are the stats that will be useful for persuading the council. Intelligence for learning history and stuff faster. They are the only one we really need right now.

Those stat boosts keep on getting bigger. It's worth it to start increasing them now rather than later.

We are just 9 year old right now. We have shit ton of time. No need to start stat optimization at this moment.

More Character interaction will make Anakin more social and open in nature. There is far more to things then just stats.

Remember the mild depression trait young ones. Story can havd negative effects, but focusing on numbers and min/maxing will be even more detrimental in the long run.

At the end of the day this is a story, not a dungeon crawler.
