Shepard Quest Mk VI, Technological Revolution

I'm trying not to. I'm aiming for filling in holes. The very big centuries long holes.

This makes me curious how you're gonna deal with the stupidity of levo and dextro acids concerning humans and the whole "humans are allergic to dextro-amino acids despite them existing on Earth and being integral to the human bodies survival".... I mean, we've even got a protein in our body that converts levo-amino acids into dextro-amino acids, if I recall correctly...

It's hard to condemn the Turians out of hand when we just don't have enough information on what happened. Supposedly they shot first. Maybe they did. Maybe they mistook an attempt at communication for an attack. Maybe they were required by law to destroy anyone opening a mass relay. Maybe they came across the human ships in the act of activating a mass relay and went 'oh my god, they're opening a mass relay, quick destroy them before they kill us all by letting another rachni-like species through'.

The point is, we just don't know.

The wiki kinda outright says the Turians shot them first, and never mentions humanity or them trying to contact one another first.
However, in 2157, their actions caught the notice of the turians, who found human explorers reactivating an inactive mass relay known as Relay 314. This was forbidden under the Citadel regulations after the Rachni Wars, but instead of negotiating, the turians opened fire.

This very much sounds like they found the humans working on the relay, and instead of going "yo, what you doing?", they decided to shoot at them without asking questions of them or anything like that.

Sure. And you know what? That's entirely believable. The Turians just enforce the law. They're not diplomats. That's not their job. If the law calls for the pre-emptive destruction of any vessel found tampering with a mass relay without Citadel authorization, then that is precisely what they'll do.

Even if that wasn't the case, yeah, I could totally see a Turian commander shooting first. Maybe he was promoted over his capability, which has been known to happen in the meritocracy. And a good Turian crew would just follow his orders.

So having spent two days mucking around with stuff for another quest I can finally get back to finishing my vote! I think this is everything that needs to be covered. If not I'll note it in thread and edit it in.

@UberJJK only other thing I'd suggest is to add gigawatt lasers in this quarter's research. We won't be putting them in weapons; I'm thinking of using them for evacuation lasers for planet-side and large asteroid mining, spin-mining for medium asteroids, and disintegration mining for smaller asteroids. They won't be useful as weapons at all because they'll all be infrared lasers until we get variable wavelength tech anyway.

Kinda also want to put Gaver Dor and the Elysium team on Detonation Shields. They won't get it done this quarter, but they should both get their bonuses, seeing as it's Mass Effect tech, which otherwise is just 40-ish RPs down the drain.

Hmm...do we need to add different sexual preference vote after the UberJJK vote if we don't like his choices? This is possibly vote count going wrong big time.

Superalloys are something we should try and get early on since that way they can be incorporated into all future technology. Which is incidentally why it's better to leave the Mk2 for about two or so years. By that point we'll have everything to make a truly badass suit.

If we get it right now the Mk2 wouldn't actually be that much of an improvement so we'd need the Mk3 to really take advantage of the new tech and that is locked behind a bunch of tech that is quite the ways off.

As for 5 Meter Mechs... well frankly they just aren't in the plan right now.

Oh, wait, are we sending any of our PI security guys to Anhur? Getting involved in a proxy war to show off our tech and punch Batarian faces in seems awesome. Especially if we research the Mech and the Mk 2 suit.

We can't this quarter since we voted not to in an earlier update. We have to wait until next quarter.

I just checked and it works! You show up as voting for the preferences listed there.

Done. Thanks for the note.

Just checked with your new vote as well. It also works.

So [] Name + Rankings works!

@Kinematics, out of curiosity. What happens in situations such as above when it comes to ranked votes and people voting for a plan by name.

Using the above votes as an example:

Alanek votes using the ranked votes thing ([1]to [5]. (post 7041)

UberJJK then also votes using the [1]vote1,[2]vote,... thing, but also includes normal [X] votes on his post.

Then Alanek votes for UberJJK by refering to his name.

Does that overwrite Alaneks ranked vote with that of UberJJK?
Alanek voting for UberJJK only affects his regular vote. Rank votes can't do references. Alanek voting for UberJJK will not cause Alanek to vote for UberJJK's ranked preferences.

There was a bug, though, where Alanek voting for UberJJK caused Alanek's earlier ranked vote to get cleared. I've fixed that now.

I should note that rank votes must go at the bottom of a vote post. Any 'regular' votes that occur after a rank vote will be ignored. UberJJK's post, where he put the rank stuff at the bottom of his post, is fine, though.

I added a count of how many users explicitly voted for each option, since it's not always obvious how much influence non-votes have. For example, Heterosexual seems like it should be doing reasonably well, with the number of 1's it got; however it only got 51 explicit votes, compared to 53-57 votes for the choices above it.

So I've run the vote via NetTally and the results are interesting to say the least. I can't say for sure since we only have a sample size of one (@Alanek ) however it seems voting for [] User just flat out eliminates your ranking vote. Near as I can tell he neither voted for my choice or his.
Yeah. Basically, if someone entered a new valid vote of any sort, it went through and cleared any prior votes before adding the new vote in. However since he didn't have a new rank vote, it ended up just being cleared and nothing else added. I fixed it so that it didn't clear things if there was no new vote of that type being added in.

1.1.11-d prerelease has this fix applied.

While I admit Superalloys are awesome, going by the tech map, there a requirement for Mk 3 Armor.

Using them for Mk 2 armor seems a waste.

Also, I just really, Really want to finally get Mk 2 armor, if only because we would finally get a Suit Up scene. Seriously, the Suit Up scene is what I want.

Also, Mech combined with Mk 2 could potentially lead to Hulk Buster Orbital Drop Armor.

....

Superalloys are nice and all, but I'd honestly prefer picking up lower tier techs and building higher, rather than jumping for the tech that jumps us up to Tier 3 without even finishing off the Tier 2 tech.

Edit: Also, your opinion on sending several groups of PI mercs to Anhur?

I saw some votes for UberJJ's plan before he noticed the problem abotu the vote overwriting previous preferences for Gender. Can you confirm

Didn't have any stated preferences for gender before voting for Uber's plan that got overwritten?

Hey, why are we only researching Superalloys alongside ridiculous black boxing?

Why not instead pick up two 400 point techs, like the 5 Meter Robot and the Mk 2 Iron Man suit?

I personally just want to finally get true Iron Man Armor, and the 5 Meter Mech is just a thing I Really Want.

Other than that, your plan looks good.

Oh, wait, are we sending any of our PI security guys to Anhur? Getting involved in a proxy war to show off our tech and punch Batarian faces in seems awesome. Especially if we research the Mech and the Mk 2 suit.
Since we have infinite hover capabilities, there is really nothing that a mech can give us that we don't already get from our super IFV.

As for sending out troops, they won't be fully equipped until the end of this quarter. At that time we'll have given out elite recruits enough training that they'll be N school equivalents, and should acquit themselves pretty well on Anhur.

I did have preferences posted.

What you don't understand is that having superalloys for the MKII isn't a main objective, but a side benefit. We want super alloys for our plans to build the best ship ever.
