Shepard Quest Mk VI, Technological Revolution

@Hoyr requesting operating expenses for the ParSec facilities on Mindoir

Right, well as it just bigger versions of what you have already then, using the same formula ~10m per quarter?

@Hoyr For some reason the 15x Accipiters are listed as costing 4,800,000cr when they actually only cost 3,000,000. I think it's a holdover from when we were buying 24 of them and I forgot to change it in the vote...

Okay then.

Fake Edit: Damnit @Hoyr! You put the Factory II at 2.5B when it's suppose to be 25B. I've just spent the last half an hour trying to figure out why the numbers don't add up right because of that!!!

My bad no clue how I screwed that up. Fixed

Similarly I've assumed the 50m figure and lack of vote options means we have started selling VIs. I've also assumed that we didn't end up hiring more staff for our Mindoir investigation team since there was no mention of doing so or the cost.

There really didn't seem to be a need for more teams. Other version of the vote had other items to investigate, but for the number listed I saw no reason to require more.

As for the VI yeah as far a I interpreted those vote they were to sell VIs So you could just have line for software sales and rate it at 50 million for this quarter.

Oh and Is the license fees a one off thing or a regular cost? I've assumed they are one off.

PMC Licensing thing was more of a one off. You filed the paperwork it's done. Yeah there's probably some expiration date on the license in a few years or something. I don't expect it to be relevant.

Would anyone object to us bumping the loan up to 36B credits to make up for this?

I'm fine.

On the other hand thanks a ton UberJJK for your work!

@Hoyr - What happens to excess production on our shipyards? Is it wasted? Goes to Lindsey at her normal rate (260k/prod)? Goes to Lindsey at some different rate?

BTW I've ran some tests and using our 3x Space Factory I that are coming online in 2174-Q2 and each is looking to average about 100B profit each per quarter if fully active (IE all their stuff is been bought) while the Space Factory II coming online in 2174-Q3 we be 750B profit per quarter at full production.

Why haven't we received a nobel prize already? We have created machinery that allows crippled people farcast into puppeting drones and Peak Human-therapies are slowly eroding all genetic disease to the dustbin of history.

@UberJJK @Hoyr pretty sure the selling VIs option is a service: we're basically using our improved VI tools to custom-build VIs for people, so we need to hire programming teams. Or are we selling personal versions of Glyph on the civilian side?

OTOH, a 10M ad buy probably doesn't make sense this quarter since we don't have spare manufacturing cycles for the civilian-grade armor products yet. Make it 1M now, to announce our custom VI business, and we'll start the big ad purchases in 2174-Q1 when we can ramp production and start advertising for ParSec.

Security Assistant Miles Brower, formerly Captain Miles 'Dyson' Brower of the 51st Fleet, frowned at the new message that popped up on the internal bulletin board. One of those again. There was the crooked grin of the boss' green-skinned avatar, all right; she was calling for volunteers for testing... an Advanced Neural Interface? Attached was the now-standard non-disclosure agreement/waiver from HR about "...the company cannot be held responsible blah blah blah..."

The testing sessions were usually not too harsh and carried double pay, but you could almost certainly wave goodbye to your day, sometimes several days if she hadn't got all the bugs worked out. There was that time he'd assisted in the testing of the Magi implant that was only now making waves. He wasn't a biotic, but driving an IFV back round from where a slim woman had erratically tossed it to get a baseline of her power was disconcerting. Sure, he'd been wearing his Legionary, but once she said that Ms. - now Doctor - Shepard was to be the second recipient of the Magi, he'd found himself watching the skies round the firing range for days afterwards. Everyone was familiar with the boss' kamikaze exploits in the Raid, and she had this air of barely-contained energy already, let alone being a biotic. He wouldn't put it past her to attempt to juggle their IFVs, just to see if she could.

Miles scanned further down. Dr. Shepard was specifically asking for volunteers from the security team. Their armour would be modified to accept tactile feedback and the volunteers would be hooked up to some hardware that would "integrate the operators more completely than ever before". He scanned back up to re-read the introduction more carefully, now noting the attached medical waiver, and saw a video labelled 'First Successful Test Run'. She was playing that stupid tabletop game, only - one of the figures was leaping and running like an actual creature. Even now, humans could pick out the movement of other humans, and these were perfectly motion-captured. Then the camera swung up to show her, eyes closed, wearing a smooth band round her head that was trailing optical cable down to the fake battlefield. Opposite her was an older man wearing the same kind of band, quite possibly her father, directing an inch-high figure in a peaked cap that seemed to be cowing the simulated human troops on the other side into advancing. Contrasting their stillness with the action, the penny dropped. They'd become action figures?

He flipped through some of the replies. A no, another no, an enthusiastic yes, lots of maybes; most of them had signed up for a quieter life than the Alliance military. The ones that did say yes would invariably be the younger ones, those who'd signed up to Paragon Industries because they got to fly around in power armour or had been discharged due to incapacity. He'd been a science nerd himself before he went down the Marine path, and the chance to be a part of the future, no matter how small, had dragged him out of retirement. That sense, of history being made, was tickling the back of his neck once more.

He signed up.

You are free to debt it forward to the next item to be built. Or build and sell starship parts (@ 260k/prod) you did buy the production rights to the parts used in starship MA cannons and there are people that own and use those cannons so spare parts might be nice.

SHIT SON @Hoyr that was an absolutely massive update. How many words was it? It looked like it was 8-10k to me. :o

Nah its only 5-6kish formatting makes it look a bit bigger than it is.

Nobel prizes take time. The discovery needs to be fully verified and the award is usually for something last year at the earliest if not a far bit older. 2173-Q4 would be the awards for discoveries during 2172 or older.

Hm... a good point. Not sure how many you'd need really. I believe though that you'll always try to have enough teams to meant demand and it becomes a straight issue of profit/cost. Just telling you the net profit is far simpler then trying to model another business type (Oh Gods NO, please NO :(). Especially a weird one.

I do see the thing as both a general product business and a tailored product one. Being able to do both is often a good practice, you have a few products already that would be great general products.

The Appliance of Science

Cool. So RP then or did you have another idea in mind?

Because a fair chunk outside of the first power armour and the arc reactors were handled by other people? Admittedly with Revy in a major advisory capacity, but she was running a company, not leading the research at a lab...

We should Totally sponsor the development of an angelic layer tournament. we have the tech, why not go for it? good way to get people interested in it and using it beyond those that must use it (poor Misaki). More young people get used to it and skilled at using it early in their life, when it's easier for them to learn.

individual interfaces might be expensive, but a table top battleground and rented headsets could work.

Angelic layer tournaments for children now means very scary and experienced combat drone users in the future.

Wait.. that sounds like a movie i should remember..

Nobel Prizes are usually only given to discoveries that have withstood the test of time. Especially since they once gave one to a guy that 'discovered' the cause of cancer. And was discredited shortly after he received the prize. So they generally wait at least a few years to be absolutely sure.

Also, other than the Peace Prize they can only be awarded to individuals, not teams. So Revy could be up for the prize in Physics for the arc reactor and her advancements in mass effect theory. But that's the only one.

Anyone else wondering about the security we have on the first Legionary suit? We basically made it a theft risk with the interview.

You know...we may want to look at getting our own 'Pepper Potts' at this point. Given Hannah's comment about Revvy needing someone to take care of her, it might be a good idea to expand our 'in-group' and add a bodyguard or two, a personal assistant (besides Cortana), and maybe...

Oooh, idea! Can we head-hunt Krios as a bodyguard? It's like being an assassin, but in reverse!:p:D

As for an assistant...hmm, I'm honestly drawing a blank here.

Well technically it can be awarded to teams of up to 3 so depending upon the exact dice distributions there are some that Revy could get. That been said going by:
Also forbidden is awarding any one prize to more than three recipients, and since in the last half century there has been an increasing tendency for scientists to work as teams, this rule has resulted in controversial exclusions.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the 2170s that rule has been abolished. Basically no scientists actually work independently at this point in time so it would mean either only awarding a Nobel Prize every couple decades to one or two lucky people or removing the rule.

Not just drones. When we make small enough QEC to put into a humanoid chassis (totally possible as seen with Rachni), we basically negate the need for actual fleshy soldiers in the field.

So, can we afford to pay for the implants?

So, can we afford to pay for the implants?

Right! That's what I forgot;

@Hoyr According to the government estimates what sort of costs are we looking at for upgrading all the L2s, or at least those who want it, to Magi Implants?

Edit:

I've removed the interest fees from the Finance Doc. I didn't calculate them right and I'm about to go to bed so I'll do the proper calculations tomorrow. In fact I think this might actually cancel out the issue with Shifting Dynamics so we might be able to keep our 35B credit loan.

@Hoyr also, How expensive are the individual Nural interface headsets? and how expensive would it be for us to setup/sponsor an angelic layer tournament(s)?

It is interesting that the SA has forked out enough cash to replace every Biotic soldier that has an L2, but the government has refused to pay for anyone else.

I bet they got a lot of flak for that, just like in the games.

I mean its basically saying 'we don't give a damn about your crippling migrains/physcosis, if you aren't putting your life on the line, you're worthless'.

I wouldn't be surprised if their government benefits don't completely cover for everything.
