It does seem that mothers of puella magi are so, frequently.
Possibly related to inferiority complex in the daughters making them more suitable for contracting. And/or inferior specimens being weeded out by contracting and thus not surviving to mother a new generation of not awesome mothers.

One can only speculate what Tomom and Akemum were/are like.
Sakumom we have hints of, but still insufficient data.

    You laugh. "Yeah, that's what it was, wasn't it?"

    "More or less." She sighs. "Well...now what?"

    Your mom shrugs. "Shouldn't you be heading home by now?"

    Kyouko pales. "I...uh..."

    "I mean, it's kinda odd that nobody's been calling you." She says. "Don't you have a phone?"

    Kyouko looks at her. "I...don't have one."

    She looks surprised. "Oh." She stares. "Huh. Well, shouldn't your parents be looking for..." She pauses when she notices Kyouko's mood tanking. "...Oh."

    You immediately start looking worried.

    What kind of little girl doesn't have a phone in today's society? Let alone the far distant future of 2015. The kind with serious problems in their life. I mean I even saw mention that mobile phones are been considered a basic human necessity, alongside internet access.

    Fixed, and the phone was already touched upon. Like, a while ago.

    Having Kyouko stay long term would be fun, but first Sayaka and her mom need to figure out her circumstances. They know she doesn't have a phone, doesn't seem to have been eating well and that her mood went sour when parents were mentioned. It's hard for them to say whether she's totally on her own or whether she's run away from bad parents/guardians.

    I'm thinking, perhaps it's better to hold off on this conversation until tomorrow. It would give us time to talk to mom privately. We can also work on getting Kyouko a phone. Then, we can bring up the possibility of her staying.
