No, SV, You Are the Forest! (Riot Quest)

So with me remembering the worm bonus exists, and our temporary buff to growth from the other thing, and with various awesome players chipping in for growing the Tranquil tree, I think we have a pretty good chance of polishing off all three? Which is great. Also, taking into account again the worm and buff and the expand reach, those individual grow the forest actions do get a decent bang for buck.

I continue to maintain that next turn we should go all in on growing to forest to magnitude 4. I think we can manage it in 2-3 turns depending on how enthusiastic people are about it.

Meh? We've gone all in on growth for almost the entire quest now. Actually doing something might be interesting.
But we haven't really? We're still at Magnitude 3 which we have been since the start of the quest. Growing the forest to magnitude 4 will allow us to do more things, because more focus actions with more autosuccesses. I am certainly supportive of exploring the galaxy once we have hyper trees, but what else is there currently that you would actually want us to do right now? Not a lot of options open for a semi-mobile forest. We could go crash into the godcorpse I guess?

That is what the actions of each tree are for? As a research tree I have felt that we have done quite a bit of research, we also did some communication as well. If you are talking about focus that comes down to us having a big boost to growth focus not to mention all the growth we can do is useful. Growth gets +15 per focus, research and comms is now at +4 and others are at +3. At this point in time there is zero reason to use a focus for things besides growth (and its handy because we generally need at least 1 of a new tree to open up options so at this point we can use actions to research and focus to grow those trees in). Actions however we can get a lot of dice going (more than we get even from 3 growth focuses) more so as trees level up (for example I am at 5 research dice)

Idk about this exploring thing, I would rather just bunk up somewhere safe with a good star, so I can continue collecting resources, without having to worry about shields. :p

[X][Action] Assist the Ingaba Research Base (General)
[X][Focus] Research Optical Tree (Crystal, Light, Magnetic)*
[X][Focus] Research Superconductive Root Network (Magnetic)*
[X][Focus] Research Elder Trees (General)

Was referring to the Collector trees. I get that "growing that things that will let us grow the things so we can grow the things" has some logic to it but is kind of tiresome at this point, and we're not even at our special tree cap now so it's not exactly urgent? Unlocking one more focus action that will also be used for the same thing isn't either. Research, anything that unlocks more actions or actually leads to interaction or does something to break up the endless feedback loop.

This is a self fulfilling prophecy. We have a massive Growth focus bonus and little else because we spent every turn focusing on collector trees, and will remain true as long as we continue to focus on it. It's more than a little boring and while I'll probably end up losing anyway I'm not enthused about spending another several turns voting all the focus actions at it. It's not the end of the world but personally just not that interested.

We're not building more collectors this turn; I think we're done on collectors for the foreseeable future. That said, special trees are the primary thing that let us do things, so I expect that we will be using our Focus actions for either growing more special trees (to let us do new things with our Actions) or growing the Forest (to give us more Magnitude) for a while. It's just super duper efficient to do so.

The point of a riot quest is that the individual can always make progress on their particular agenda by just voting for it with their own action, even if the collective is turning the collective's resources towards other thing. Granted, this has some issues, like how we're dumping a ton of research into the completely useless-to-us-for-the-foreseeable-future Hyper Tree instead of Optical Trees or Lasers, but c'est la quest.

Kinda surprised were not turning invisible, we did just figure it out but I thought someone would use it since the Beast did a drive by vibin :V

I was assuming doing that without informing the Ingaba might be a treaty violation. Especially since we're already moving around. Their research base just suddenly disappearing might make those military ships a bit anxious.

On the other branch, the beast was explicitly not interested in us, and keeping the veil up our sleeve as a trump card is good sense I think. At least this way the Ingaba can't try to leech stealth from us as well.

I was personally planning to wait to see how scoop trees turn out, and successes required for Magnitude 5, before making any further plans about growing special trees.

While I fully understand your desire to find a nice safe nook of the galaxy to hide away in, understand that that is an entire galaxy full of things that can travel faster than light and which might be hungry for mineral. If we just try to hide we won't be hidden long. If we want to see our branches reach their maximum potential we need to be a mobile fortress of shrapnel and lasers and forcefields.
research hyper trees>get the hell out of this hot mess of a sector we started in>research laser trees> ???> probably declare war on the rest of the galactic community. That's the ticket!

I'm willing to type in defense of Hyper Tree research here. It's something to polish off before we need it, not when. There may come a time we need to vacate this region of space for our own protection, in which case we'll need to hammer out a Hyper Tree and shove off for parts unknown. This becomes massively less practical if we're functioning at a 1-2 turn delay because we haven't finished its research chain yet.

Were all over the place currently with the big projects, we were nearly done finishing the optical tree but switched to the laser instead and if this vote win's we will be switching from that research to the hyper tree.
We need to actually focus and finish something or else were going to be researching everything and finish nothing.
My argument why splitting our focus is a bad thing for big research project's, and were starting from scratch at that again.

Because that is how the focus mechanics work? By default we have a number of focuses equal to magnitude that give a number of success equal to magnitude. So currently 3. At quest start we had one option that let us improve how much we get out of focuses, collector trees. So we went in on those so that at later points we could use a focus action to grow a tree that we researched to unlock new actions. As it is right now with +15 to growth we can grow 1 of most trees we research with a single Focus which in turn unlocks new actions (and sometimes new research).

Throwing focus at anything else is at best about equal to 3 voters acting on it at quest start. At this point with voters leveling up and successes from dice getting multipliers applied 1 or 2 voters can equal or exceed the output of a non growth focus. Meaning if you want to do something get 1 or 2 people to vote on it with you and you are getting more effect.

Also note that the laser power uses collector trees when we use a focus action on it once unlocked so they are not limited to just growth long term. If you want to see more research or comms action in the focus pool try and get some more synapse trees up and running since those function like collector trees for comms and research.
