The Young Eagle - A Napoleon Quest

[X] Plan A Stable Sardinia

[X] Politely decline: You've been in Sardinia too long. You wish your allies the best, but it's time to go home. (Don't take any of the constitution options if you pick this.)

I'm smiling so much now.

Maybe things will get better. Maybe they will get worse.
But for now, Sardinia is free.
This freedom did not come easily, and it was paid for with blood.
Not just Napoleon; the Sardinian people rose up to fight for something they have not had in a very long time.
They cannot always rely on the French or Corsicans. If they wish to truly be free, they will have to learn to protect themselves.

Regarding the new Sardinian Constitution, I hope that Napoleon will use it to build himself a reputation as something that not even Dumas could match:
The purest revolutionary in all of Europe, a man who truly believes in its ideals. Someone who more than anybody in France is determined to realize Robespierre's dream.

I'm currently at work, but I'll put in my vote when I can.

Also I'd love it if Napoleon spreads half-truths far and wide of the British making him an offer to betray the Revolution, to betray the Sardinian people Napoleon had come to save, for the sake of money and mayhaps even a crown, and Napoleon responding with fury due to the idea of autocracy being infuriating to him. (Napoleon will NEVER launch a coup to become a military dictator! How ridiculous!)

Kinda bummed out we didnt get to be President of the Sardinia Republic. I mean, we fought for it; it was our home and we could foster close ties to France. It would be quite the coup if napoleon didnt go to France. i like wacky alt-history quests, and france seems kind of boring to me. There are too many cooks in the kitchen and its already done to death Or we go to spain and become the president there and find our catholic roots but i think we should do everything we can for sardinia to be as stable as can be so take everything.

Edit: Would have liked a vote for it.
Fair, but there was an action at the beginning of the invasion to decide what Napoleon's goals were:

Choose one:
[] Sardinia, like Corsica, will be integrated into La Republique Francaise as a department. Sardinians will have representation in the National Convention and local autonomy, but will become part of France.
[] Sardinia will become a 'protectorate' of France, under the control of a military governor. Sardinia's men, taxes and resources will go to aiding La Republique. What do you mean that's just colonialism? Don't be silly - France is a republic! We totally wouldn't colonise anyone...
[] Sardinia will be made into a Sister Republic of France, with its own national convention and a system of government modeled after the one in Paris.
[] Sardinia will remain a kingdom - but not one ruled by the Savoyards. A native Sardinian noble will be selected to rule the country as monarch - appeasing both the patriots and the traditionalists. This won't be popular in Paris, but with a decent constitution, hopefully the state of Sardinia won't be too abhorrent to the French.
[] Sardinia will remain a kingdom - with you as its king. And why not you? This entire invasion is only happening because you willed it. You speak the language, you understand the people, and you're more competent than a thousand ancien regime kings. This will put you in the crosshairs of both the French and the Coalition, but maybe you could make a deal with one of them?
[] Write in: Your plan for Sardinia's future

Since the plan of making Sardinia a republic won the vote, that's the option I've been treating as 'canon'.

[X] Plan A Stable Sardinia
-[X] Constitution - Sons of Hellas and Judea:
--[X] Write in: The Greeks and Jews are given full status as citizens of Sardinia as well as protected minorities, with all the rights and obligations that entails.
-[X] Constitution - The Coral Trade:
--[X] Write in: Grant the monopoly and business concessions as agreed but with caveats. Make sure that the government is able to extract a tax from the trade in order to prevent future resentment. Make provisions for a renegotiation of the deal after a period of say 20 years, enough time for the new economy of the fledgling nation to take form.
-[X] Constitution - Civil liberties:
--[X] Write in: Guarantee the rights to freedom of speech, freedom of peaceful assembly, right of the press, the right to fair elections, the right to property, the right to work, the right to education, the right to a fair trial and due process and finally fair and equal treatment under the law
-[X] Constitution - The form of government:
--[X] Write in: Structured as a three institution system. Legislature, Judiciary and Executive. Legislature shall be a Unicameral house of elected representatives with each region being given seats based on proportion of population. The legislature shall be called The Sardinian People's Free National Assembly. Judiciary will be a Tribunal of judges nominated by the Executive but approved upon by the Legislature. Executive shall be elected by national election with simple majority. Grant the Greeks and Jews extra seats in recognition of their service to their adopted homeland. Propose a deal with the aristocracy for seats as well in exchange for a tax on their income and properties. The combined seats in total gained by the aristocracy should be in proportion to the ones given to the Greeks and Jews, and should never infringe on the majority of regular seats. The aristocratic seats can be contested in succeeding election cycles after the first one, the taxation remains in perpetuity. The idea behind doing so is to give these factions say in the future of the nation in return for past and future service.

I like this plan

-[X] Constitution - Slavery:
--[X] Write in: Total abolishment of slavery, slaves on the island are free, but will need to go through a process of applying for citizenship to ensure they understand what it means to be a citizen of Sardinia, the rights that follow, as well as the responsibilities and expectations. These processes are to be conducted fairly and without disadvantaging the formerly enslaved people.

I doubt this will get a lot of Votes, but Slavery is just an institution I genuinely HATE. I had to vote for or make a Plan that includes getting rid of it.

[X] Plan A Stable Sardinia + Ending Slavery

I like the original version but I agree with this plan, small in Sardinia though it may be if we have the chance we should get rid of slavery anywhere we go.

[X] Plan A Stable Sardinia

Love this plan.

[X] Write in: Have Treguet stop at Corsica and disband 1st Battalion and 2nd Battalion unless enough Corsicans are willing to join us to create a full strength battalion if we merge both battalions. Keep the Marseilles National Guard.

The 1st Battalion got 300+ people, that is one good charge away from disintegrating and the 2nd Battalion is following suit. Both of them are too understrength, so unless they can create 1 battalion with full strenght by recruiting in Corsica, they can leave.

Is this possible @Tjf ?

[X] There are Weeks where Decades Happen
-[X] Constitution - The Moors
--[X] Write-in: "Monsieur Angioy, one of the foremost problems your country faces is the the threat of a reactionary coup d'état by fifth columnists. The best way to prevent such a tragedy is of course to defang them, I will offer you advice. First are the Nobles A policy of Land and financial appropriation should be taken to deprive the nobility of their economies and means of subterfuge, next a policy of redistributionism should be undertaken. The landless of Sardinia dream of having a piece of land to call their own, give them what they yearn for and their body and soul will burn with revolutionary fervor, as for the financial assets I leave this up to the honorable Sardinian Assembly. However the deals with the Giunta will be honored, hopefully all this will show them there will be no tolerance for treason . The second are the clergy Again a Policy of land appropriation should be undertaken however with caveats, the clergy that should be the focus of this appropriation without a doubt should be the high clergy. They are decadent and forget their purpose is to serve gods children not profit from them, however empower the local clergy, these men are those who truly follow their duty to soothe and help gods children. Let your kindness be a reward for that but to also bind them to your new government."

-[X] Constitution - The form of government:
--[X] Write-in: The formation of the Sardinians peoples government is the most pressing matter, in this regard I suggest;
1. The government should be divided into three institutions with them being the Consulship, the Assembly, and the Judiciary. The division of power would guarantee tyrants would never gain enough power to overthrow democracy.
2. The Consul should be voted into power by a direct vote from the citizens of the republic
3. The Assemblies deputies should also be voted into power through a direct vote of the Citizens of the republic
3. The Judiciary should be divided into three tiers, The first tier would be the inferior courts of general jurisdiction, the second tier would be intermediate appellate which would hear appeals from the inferior courts, the last and most powerful court would be the court of last resort which would hear appeals from the inferior appellate courts. The court of last appeal would be a judiciary of 7 men with impeccable virtue and a strong judicial record and would be nominated by the consul of the republic. However the consuls nominees would have to be confirmed by the assembly before being admitted into the court of last appeals.
4. The Court of Last Appeals justices would be serving lifetime appointments until their death, retirement, or conviction by the Assembly.
5. The Consul would be the head of the Republics government, as such the Consul has the right to present Proposals to the assembly in which they will vote on either passing the proposal or rejecting it.
6. The Consul has the responsibility to sign into law all proposal that the Assembly has voted affirmatively for.
7. The Consul has the right to appoint his own members to his administration.
8. The Assembly has the right to impeach the Consul from his office if the Consul has committed illegal acts, or acts of extreme depravity.
9. The Consul is elected to serve a four year term
10. Consuls are elected at consular elections via a simple majority vote.
11. The same is true with deputies in the Assembly.
12. Both Consular and Assembly election are held on the same day every four years.
13. As a Sister republic the Sardinian people should sign a treaty of friendship with Her sister France and both sides should allow millitray acceses to each other.

-[X] Constitution - Civil Liberties
--[X] Write-in: "Another vitally important part in your democracy monsieur Angioy, I would recommend just as Frances hero Robespierre had put forward." The Right to Petition is firmly guaranteed. The Right to Bear Arms in Self-Defense shall not be infringed. Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Press, and Freedom of Assembly would be protected. The Right to Property is recognized as Sacred and Inviolable (unless citizen guilty is colluding with foreign enemas, seeks to overthrow the democratically elected government, or committed an 'unforgivable' crime). It is Guaranteed that all citizens no matter their position in society will be equal before the law. It is the right for every adult male citizen to be able to vote regardless of their income, property, religion, race, or any other qualification.

-[X] Constitution - Slavery:
--[X] Write-in: "What should be done is simple monsieur Angioy." In the year of our lord 1793 Anno Domini, the institution of slavery should be totally abolished. Any slave in the Republic of Sardinia or any place under its jurisdiction will immediately be set free. The question of citizenship for former slaves should be decided by the Sardinian people.

-[X] Constitution - Trade, Protectionism and The Economy:
--[X] Write-in: "This matter is quite a simple on as well monsieur Angioy." The Republic of Sardinia should engage in free trade with the free nations of Europe while pursuing a strong policy of tariffs and protectionism against the nations of Europe under the shackles of monarchism and reactionism. During this time Sardinia should pursue friendly economic agreements with its siter Republic France.

Dang, would have been nice to have added another department to France, especially one which has great wood for shipbuilding

Fair point, that's a mistake on my part. It should be seperate.

-[X] Have Treguet stop at Corsica and then Marseilles, and disband the national guard units. They've already done more than you could have asked, and they've earned their rest.

This.
This is what I'm loving most from this Quest.
The military campaigns are well and good, but THIS is what I want most; building a new world.

I'm casting my vote:

[X] There are Weeks where Decades Happen

[X] Have Treguet stop at Corsica and then Marseilles, and disband the national guard units

Here's hoping the new Republic of Sardinia flourishes and becomes just the first chapter of Napoleon's legacy.

Not that different from what I was already voting for, and we're revolutionary. This is only natural.

Yes i understand that but you can make sardinia a Republic and Napoleon a president the other does not exclude it thats why im kinda miffed but anyway fair play.

I wonder where Davout is now. Desaix would surely want to learn of where he is.

Hopefully Davout is ok.

Also if Napoleon were to return to France, for me, the Number One priority is to find Berthier and make him Napoleon's Chief-Of-Staff.
