It seems he was impressed by deku's reckless disregard for his own wellbeing Heroism in saving a bunch of people from the giant robot.
Actually, think about it, this was the kid who did all that after All Might himself as much as said to his face that he couldn't be a hero without a quirk.

He not only applied to the academy, he passed the tests, and sacrificed himself to save another person.

Someone, give this Deku a scholarship split between the Support and Gen.Ed. tracks. Deku will become a Hero by the UA Sports Festival.

[X] Invite all your new friends over. More people equals more hugs equals happy cinnamon roll.
-[X] Everyone likes New things, right? Shops and malls have tons of new things in ever corner! Places to eat, exotic pet stores, and stuff that other people like. A perfect outing for everyone involved! You could even witness cinnamon roll on literal cinnamon roll cannibalism.
-[X] Buy Dekun something cool. He likes notebooks to write notes in, he likes quirks and heroes... the Mall probably has some cool stationery items? Or a video game! There are some popular ones with elaborate character creation accord to tv commercials. But does Dekun enjoy that sort of thing very much?
-[X] Oh no! How can you not know what your best human friend likes? You could always just ask him but that would ruin the surprise of a gift! All Might hoodie? Hairclip for when he studies? Hstory book about quirks? My centipedes and spider are very very grateful that you didn't die? Help me Bael!

Wait a second, are we still using colored skin flaps instead of actual clothes? I don't think the school would be that accepting of the concept.

They let invisible girl wear just gloves as a hero costume. I think that they'll accept an excuse of practicality. And I'm pretty sure that Kaede is like... a featureless doll. If Midnight, Invisible girl, and Class Prez get passes; Kaede and her 'wait but you totally have our school uniform on what are you saying!' should raise eyebrows and alarms but otherwise get a pass.

Seriously though Kaede my sisbro you should probably start wearing clothing. Clothing that isn't skin.

All the more reason to gain plant abilities! Now I, Kaede, am indeed wearing one hundred percent real plant fiber clothing! Take that!

"Kaede..."

"Dekun just be quiet."

I think the question is if we have to wear the school uniform, and seeing how even the moth girl who sweats acid has to wear it, it probably is mandatory. Our hero uniform is a whole nother matter.

How to even explain to her the need?

"Clothing" is a protective layer of armor that has an almost memetic effect on other humans. When "clothing" is worn, the average person is 50% more likely to be involved or accepted into social situations. Certain types of "clothing" makes you more approachable, more loved, and more respected than others, though most humans agree that "clothing" in general is a great thing to have.

Lack of "clothing" is very likely to emit the wrong response to most humans. It is a seen as either a high offense, punishable by law, or as a indication that one is ready to reproduce. The reasons as to why this is so are rather mystifying, though most scientific eldritch abominations believe this is due to a memetic effect that is carried on in the genes of most humans. Certain humans, labeled "nudists" by the majority, do not carry this memetic "clothing" gene, and are often looked down upon by other humans.

All in all, it is best to wear "clothing" around humans, so as to not be punished and to gain a better social position among them.

Perfect and you followed the logic of the MC perfectly

Indeed. Different designs and colors will invoke different signaling as well. Besides socioeconomic display clothing indeed has vast practical functions, the only reason that we have grown to disuse it is because of our fairly anomalous quirk. But even we would be forced to use clothing in some hypothetical situations. Hazmat suits, Antarctic clothing, space.

In addition, Kaede cannot mimic everything. I'm a bit surprised that she doesn't deck out in smaller accessories like hairclips or bracelets. She comes off as the type to like deco kawaii or clunky jewelry. Then again she's not exactly had a normal upbringing and is in control of her own brain chemicals. Who knows what that's done to her development...

Which quirks are a hard counter to our quirk at this moment.
Bakugo, Urararararaka, Todododod, Tokoyami, Aizawa, Tomura, maybe Stain, All Might, maybe Shinsou, ALIEN QUEEN, maybe Midnight- basically all pro heroes if they were serious.

We really don't want to go solo against fire users.

Any other quirks can theoretically beat us if their users are smart about it though. I'm not sure how smart it would be for Himiko to one v one us tho lol.
