No, seriously, what's with the Elf?

A sneak peak into the Old World News that I thought you might be interested in:

Dawi
The Golden Decade: High-King Thorgrim Grudgebearer has declared the past ten years the Golden Decade, and the why can be summed up in four words:

There. Has. Been. Growth.

The number of our people born has, for the first time in a very, very long time, been greater than those lost to this depraved age.

The reasons for this are three fold:

The Massif Orcal, once the breeding place of evil, has been cleansed by the humans. The orcs and goblins that once fell from it in droves to assail the Dawi of the Gray Mountains and Karak Norn were put to the torch by the Bretonnians, a coalition led by Duke Phillip Folcard; and those filthy Greenskin that still fall from the mountains are now much lesser in number and in strength-- their hordes are tiny, and lack the wyverns and wolves that allow the Greenskin to drown us in numbers.

Karak Zorn was found. The ancient hold, the birthplace of the Dawi, was rediscovered, miraculously, by Tyr Ironmane, and filled with Dawi who remembered the ancient ways. They have strengthened the Karaz Ankor immensely, filling ranks and bringing new devices with which to face off the ancestral foes.

Finally, Karak Drazh-- better known as the Black Crag to humans-- was reclaimed in a storm of steel, and fire, and blood. The Black-Plated Lord came, with Slayers, to die fighting; but instead he killed, saved by the White-Dwarf, and retook it for the us, reinstalling Queen Goldheart to the throne. Put to the winds like this in two of their old bastions, the number of Orcs and Goblins we have faced over the past decade has dwindled, allowing the defenders of the holds to turn their wills to facing the Skaven.

The Dwarfs are not doomed. We will fight. We will reclaim all that was taken. And we will not rest until the Great Book of Grudges has been struck out.

So yeah. Cleansing the Massif Orcal: Not just good for you.

Zamnil Barag

"My son, my son, walk ye now with the Greatest of Ancestors; your watch is done, your duty fulfilled. Now my watch begins."
-Zamnil Barag at the funeral of his son

(Source)

To kill a human's son is to create an enemy that will not rest, will not slow, will not stop until you are dead, their kin avenged.

How much more terrible, then, is it to kill a Dwarf's son, to earn a Grudge of unmatchable intensity from an already vengeful people?

Zamnil Barag was once a family man, a Thane to the Lord of Karag Ankor-- a name taken to honor the larger Dwarfen kingdom. He and his son were of very different temperament-- he was a grim avenger, a battle hungry cynic who sought to protect only what was his. His son, meanwhile, crafted many golden devices and strange workings, beautiful blades of wrought steels and gromril, armors etched with ancient glories, and war-machines with which to kill in great number the enemies that have taken the holds. But they loved each-other as father and son, each honoring the other.

Then Yarag was killed by Orcs.

This was, to be sure, a mistake-- for the cynical lethargy and dark ennui that kept him, who wielded the Drakk-Varf, from unleashing his dark wrath was shattered by hate. He went, drawing together a great number of Slayers and other dwarfs and armed them with the terrible machines his son had created over his too-short life-- and marched on the Black Crag, killing every bloody Greenskin he could find. And despite being gross outnumbered, by the aid of the White-Dwarf the Throng of the damned and the doomed managed to cut their way into-- and hold-- the upper levels, and from there they began a long campaign to retake the Hold in full, one that recently came to fruition.

The Black-Plated lord, as he is often called, has begun gathering another Throng for war, accompanied by his daughter-- though she was too young, at the time, to fight with the Thane at the Black Crag, the Runesmith has recently finished her training-- readies for to strike at the Silverspear, to reclaim that old Hold as he has Karak Drazh. It will take years; but then, he has centuries left to him, and the hopes of all Dwarfkind on his shoulders. Accompanied by the Firestrike Clan-- the old Lords of the Silverspear-- and with thousands of Dwarfs and dwarf-friends, among them the Supreme Matriarch of the Imperial Wizard Colleges, Jutta Brun, Mistress of the Amber Order.

They wait, and they plan; but vengeance will come.

Man the Orcs just are not catching a break.
It's almost like someone has denied them their biggest den of monsters by conquering it and strengthening the humans there to the point that the greenskins can't get their wyverns and wolves relatively easily in one place but, instead, either have to get it from the Badlands or be lucky enough to stumble on an egg or something like that, which is massively weakening the Greenskins of the Old World.

Or something.

Something tells me that this just means the orcs are gonna start getting creative.
