Voices From Beyond: A Skullgirls Quest

Otherwise, if someone can find a character from a fighting game who can control animals, I'll let Marie get that power from that character.
Would the sheep from Fighting Herds count or do we need someone else?

If you or anyone else in the thread can find evidence that Marie's Skullgirl powers canonically include controlling dead animals, I'll allow it.
I mean she did create a giant skeleton mech to fight Eliza, although that was a cutscene.

This is pretty creative thinking, but I'm not sure this is something Marie can do. If you or anyone else in the thread can find evidence that Marie's Skullgirl powers canonically include controlling dead animals, I'll allow it.

I don't think there was a case on game or webcomic that she ever controlled dead animals specifically, maybe if she killed them so she could raise them back? Thought Marie's aura was able to animate even Grendel's arm that was severed. as well as Squigly that she didn't kill. So doesn't seem that she has to kill them herslef to reanimate. If skullgirl Aura could reanimate corpses from humans and Gigans, would animals be an exceptions?

Might not be releated, but Felicia can special summon catgirls with her "Please help me! Special Move to assist her in battle, so maybe could be an option for extra minions?

You both make a good point. I'll say that Marie can control dead animals but, at least for the purposes of the quest, she needs to use more power to do it than she needs to control the intelligent dead. The extra power goes to giving animals enough brainpower to understand her commands.

Hmm, if we want a whole tower to blow up, we'll need some rats and other small animals with enough bombs to take it out or at least chew through the supports.

Alternately, give her Bean's ability to spawn bombs and play real life Bomberman in the Medici base, just run through every corridor and stair dropping bombs.

Let's see how much HP this building has!

Yeah that definitely works, well at least we have a way to get some eyes in the skies, maybe even a way for Marie to see through the birds as well.

Plus with Twelve's Shapeshifting, she can join them up there! That could be another way to get bead on where everything is.

Would she be able to fly with the wings though? Cause I think she would prefer the Skullheart over trying to fly herself.

Okay, reading that Double POV made me grin. Would it be worth it to have Marie speak out loud to us during the conversation with Double, just to reinforce the unpredictable hallucination theory.
-[X] (Voice 3) "Also, well done on frustrating one of the four beings that we can conclusively say are behind the entire thing of the Skullgirl and Skullheart. Though if you want an excuse for why you couldn't find the church, 'voices in your head are giving you directions, you don't need a map', Double already thinks you are hallucinating, let's show them a downside."

The other thing I was thinking of with the corruption resistance power we give Marie is that we might actually have to go with Ryu. Marie is kept alive* by the skull heart. The Power of Nothingness seals away corruptive influences, this would seal away the skull heart and kill Marie. So if we go with Gouken the powers become mutually exclusive, but Ryu knows how to use both at the same time, without being influenced by the corruptive one, so we can use The Power of Nothingness without dying*.

While I like the idea of introducing Bomberman to Marie and have her debut it with the Mexico's have to ask if Bean bombs can actually get the job done? This is what it says in his wiki page

Bean, as his moniker implies, is an explosion expert who primarily attacks with bombs. It is unknown where he gets them from, but he seems to be able to produce them whenever needed, similar to how Amy pulls out her Piko Piko Hammer; his bombs, however, are weak and can backfire if they explode too close up to Bean. It has also been shown that in a pinch, he may also summon a bigger bomb to deal more damage if he so desires. In addition, Bean is very agile, rivaling the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog.

So his bombs might not pack enough punch to do the job, we might need to look for other options?

Maybe Sektor with his missiles? I think there are some Tekken and Mortal Kona by characters that use it, there has to be fighters from other games too… gonna check on that.

If we can get the Life Gem from Lorenzo we might not need the Skull heart anymore to keep. Her Alive, there's no 100% what would happen if both are used on the same host, but I'm hoping it can counterattack Marie's undead state and being her back to life once we find a way to fully null the skull heart influence and even remove it if possible.

Twelve could fly with his Shapeshifted wings, so I'm pretty sure she can as well.

Paraphrasing the Engineer, just use more bomb, Shapeshift more arms and hands and pretend you're an automatic grenade launcher.

Oooohhh I see, you are going with quantity over quality. Nice idea!!!

I'm on board with this! We need to teach Marie the sacred technique of "Spamming" attacks!

Oh yeah, I'm board with Messing and trolling with Double, once she finds marie, we are telling her this to annoy her XD.

So any other weapons in mind we should gift to Marie, cause while we know she dislikes weapons, maybe we can give her some unorthodox ones like a shovel.

I'll say Marie can fly with shapeshifting, but she needs to do it as a bird. She doesn't know how engines work well enough to turn into a working plane. And if you all get Marie an explosives-related power, I do hope events give Marie a chance to do her best impression of an automatic grenade launcher. I love the idea.

Also, I've been writing up the next story post, but it looks like the votes might change soon, so I'll hold off on that for an hour or so and rewrite the post if the votes do change.

I was thinking tell her now so see can get the outrage out of the way and have the excuse ready to go.

Mmm…rereading the post, we might wanna edit out about the four being, not much as too hide that from Marie, but more to save it for a bit later once we get the revenge done or maybe after the meeting with Double.

Marie doesn't know anything about the Trinity and if we just sprig. That comment to her that might confuse or maybe question Double…and I'm not sure how she will react with Marie even getting a hint of the Trinity.

Maybe you could edit that part out to just mention Double?

Also have been thinking a bit about how they are managing tio track Marie, which seems to be throught her theonite readings (Theonite.) Which seems to increase whenever Marie uses her powers in a signficant way i believe.

So to avoid that I know we have mentioned maybe finding a way to generate another type of energy to cover it, but maybe there are other ways?

First Idea I had was if they only react to peaks in theonite energy perhaps we could find a way to saturate areas of Theonite? That way it could give false positives of where Marie may be and could be used to fool them/make them waste resources. Might not be as effective or worth it, but is a possible way if we cant to get them off her trail even for a bit. Been tryong to fyong characters with powers or skills that could possible help with that, but had no luck.

Other idea was lucking for characters that. could absord or seal energy and mayeb we could have Marie reduce her Theonite output? That might weaken her skullgirl powers or even herself, but would make her hard to detect. So far the only 3 charcaters i found that could mayeb help would be Charlie Nash (STREET FIGHTER V version), who was able to absorb M. Bison Psycho energy to weaken him, the other is Chizuru Kagura (Chizuru Kagura) from King of fighters, who may be able to also seal the skullheart power perhaps to reduce how much Theonite it generates. Finally there is Claudio Serafino from Tekken (Claudio Serafino) , an exorcist, who might be able to do the same thing like Chizuru and maybe reduce how much output of energy the skullheart makes?

Might not seem like the best idea cause this msot likely would weaken Marie, but might be soemthing worth thinking if we wanna avoid further detection from the Labs and cant come with better ideas.

Causing Double Toil And Trouble
[X] Plan: Reassessing the situation V2

-[X] (Voice 1) "Okey Marie, take a deep breath please, we think it could be a good idea to take a moment to rest for now…"

-[X] (Voice 2) "Indeed Madam, it seems we might have misunderstood the situation a bit."

-[X] (Voice 1) "Yeah…we are deeply sorry about that Marie. Maybe right now best thing to do is to wait somewhere safe while the nun looks for you?"

-[X] (Voice 2) "Also, Madam, we assumed you were more familiar with New Meridian, our apologies for the assumption."

-[X] (Voice 2) "As such we need your help as we help you Marie, please be sure to tell us what you can before we start making grand plans against the Medici and Double."

-[X] (Voice 1) "So about this Dahlia gal…well, she has a gun for an arm she uses to shot explosives and other stuff at people, getting rid of it would be a good place to start.

-[X] (Voice 1) "Don't give her time to plan, she will either try to keep you at a distance to shoot you, or distract you with something for a good old stab."

-[X] (Voice 4) "Ey kid, this Dahlia lady is sneaky, focus too much on something during battle and she'll take you by surprise! she has knives and grenades up her everything, focus too much on one part of her, another is gonna stab you! Go for the joints and stay alert for her weaponry, only her left arm is fleshy!

-[X] (Voice 5) "One more thing, Miss. Double has great amount of experience with the Skullheart. She knows that Skullgirls would normally be knee deep in blood by this point, so it may have some questions about that. As an excuse, say that your main objective is to kill the Medici's leader first, but if you go on a killing spree now, it may get scared like the coward it is and use their money to run away, and that would make things troublesome. Just make sure to not even say Lorenzo's name or any of the associates we have told you about, since you shouldn't know about them. Hopefully that pleases the thing."

May 24th, afternoon, the rooftops of New Meridian

Marie barely has any time to take in the warning from Myriad before Double shows up. The creature almost looks a bit annoyed. This conversation is already a moral victory for Marie, no matter how it goes.

"I see you've been taking care to avoid detection, child," Double says. "As well as avoiding maps."

Marie doesn't have a good answer to that. She really did just forget to make sure she knew where things in New Meridian are. But she can't give Double a victory this soon.

"If you had better foresight, Double, you would have made sure I didn't need a map," she says after thinking for a moment.

"Forgive me for believing you had the competence to find a map without my aid," Double replies in a tone sharper than any razor. "And on the subject of your competence, what exactly have you been doing since we last met? I have heard no news about the Skullgirl appearing, so I assume your crusade against the Medici has been going... poorly without my guidance."

If not for Myriad's message, Marie might have believed Double truly is so limited that she needs to rely on sources like the newspapers. A way to let Marie feel more in control, probably. She puts on an unimpressed expression at the creature's words.

"You've found out who leads the Medici and where I can find this person? I had no idea the good sister heard confession from gang bosses."

Double's usual frown deepens for an instant, and then she says, "I have my ways. But if you wish to figure out that information on your own, I am happy to see how many of the Medici you remove from the world as you search for their leadership."

"And give that leadership a chance to get a warning and flee before I can get justice? Hardly. Tell me what you know, Double, so I can finally get started."

"Then you must come and see me once you've gotten that bit of justice, child," Double says. "You still have not told me what you have been doing since we parted ways, and we will need to plan your next moves, with my supervision this time."

Hesitantly, Marie nods.

Double spends the next few minutes giving Marie a fairly accurate description of Lorenzo Medici (with no mention of the Life Gem), along with directions to both Medici Tower and the Meridian Grand Cathedral. Then, in the time it takes Marie to blink, the false nun disappears.

Once the creature is out of sight, Marie shouts in triumph. She's done it, she's fooled Double! The monster doesn't know that Marie has information from Myriad! Double thinks she can lead Marie around by the nose, but that couldn't be further from the truth. She'll have to play along for now, but soon enough, and with Myriad's help, she'll be able to take the leash off permanently.

[Upload Complete!]

And then Marie feels her body gain the ability to change shape. A flex of muscles both new and always already there, and she can change her shape in any way she can think of, and her clothes can also change to fit her. She can't alter the color of anything, but this is still going to let Marie go around in public without being noticed much. Marie changes to look like a normal girl, and how wonderful it feels that her skeleton is no longer visible. She lies on her back, wallowing in the sensation of it, and looks up at the cloudless sky. What appropriate weather for a day when things have gotten so much better.

Thank you, Myriad. Thank you so much.

A/N: As far as I can tell, the votes ended up not changing. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

[X] (Voice 3) Your Welcome, Marie. We do have some plans to mess with Double by taking advantage of the 'hallucinations' you are 'suffering'. Ever tried to hold a conversation where one of the other participants doesn't exist.

This feels like a major victory in so many ways, not only for screwing with Double, but actually making Marie happy.
I'm very happy for her!

So know we know the directions to the Medici Tower and the Cathedral. Definitely have to ask Marie to scout the place out a little before she attacks it, but question is what to do know?

Could probbaly ask Marie what she wants to do now? Maybe suggest to use this chance to explore New Meridian? With her new human form, as long as she doesn't use her skullgirl powers I don't think there is high chance of the Labs locating her?

How does that sound?

I'm very happy for her!
Aye, same here plus who doesn't mind annoying Double.

Definitely have to ask Marie to scout the place out a little before she attacks it, but question is what to do know?
And perhaps have her practice with her new powers, abilities and skills as well.

Oh and make a new kunai and chain so she can scale buildings since the current one isn't made for that.

Could probbaly ask Marie what she wants to do now?
Definitely need to ask her if we're forgetting anything before we kill Lorenzo and his gang.

Maybe suggest to use this chance to explore New Meridian?
Does she have any money though?

With her new human form, as long as she doesn't use her skullgirl powers I don't think there is high chance of the Labs locating her?
We can only hope.

Also she definitely needs to find a map of the city as well.

Oh and make a new kunai and chain so she can scale buildings since the current one isn't made for that.
How exactyl can she make a new Kunai ? Pretty sure the form it urrently has its the standard one, not sure she just can alter it as she wishes?

Definitely need to ask her if we're forgetting anything before we kill Lorenzo and his gang.
Good idea, maybe ask her is there's anythig n else she wants to tell us/ask us?

Does she have any money though?

...Good lord, don't tell me we are gonna have to ask Double for money. I refuse to let Marie sink that low. We need to find some Medici goons and steal their money...after killing them.

Also she definitely needs to find a map of the city as well.

To the library then!

EDIT: Added twelve shapeshifting abiltiies to Marie abiltiies in informational

Well i mean like a skullheart/skeleton version made of bones and stuff, cause she was able to use bones for a lot of stuff.

Good idea, maybe ask her is there's anythig n else she wants to tell us/ask us?
And if she needs information on anyone or anything else as well, although we must tell her that our information isn't exactly complete.

We need to find some Medici goons and steal their money...after killing them.
Medici, corrupt cops, and lot of other criminals would be good targets for Marie, plus she can just act like a lost girl in a new city.

To the library then!
Hopefully she can find one before Double comes back.
