A/N: This isn't canon to the quest, but I got the idea and wanted to write it. Investigating Skullgirl crimes is a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
Right now I have been searching for a proper ability. I already proposed a weapon that I am happy with, since it is something that can fill many roles.
In short, is an ice weapon that can morph between a War Hammer, a Battle Axe and a Shield. It would give her some versatility in close range while including a defensive option with the shield.
Yeah, I don't really know. But I found this Evil Zone game pretty interesting. Specially Kakurine, she can make these "halos" of light she uses as attack and defense, she can also teleport and fly.

Battle Arena Toshinden would be an interesting one. Not a lot of people talk about the Tamsoft fighting games anymore; but I have a soft spot for Toshinden.
I would imagine that Cyberbots only counts insofar as the pilots specifically; as the mecha come from an earlier Capcom game, Armored Warriors; which is a beat-em-up. The only exception to the rule: Zero Gouki, created for the console ports; and I would hazard Cyber Akuma is not necessarily off limits; being as he is Akuma but made into Apocalypse's herald via the techno-organic virus (hence, why he's the final boss in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and not Apocalypse)
Elena, from Street Fighter, has magical healing powers. It's why no one liked her when they added her to IV.
Duh, the tiny mind robot toys. It's been a hot minute since I Customed any Robo (thank you Nintendo for not releasing one since Arena, you buffons) but I think she'd get a kick out of the girls; Swift especially.

Added battle arena and cyberbots but we're restricted to characters that debuted in fighting games, so I don't think Cyber Akuma counts, we'll see what QM says on that one

I would argue for Cyber-Akuma; as he's a variation of a character that debuted in a fighting game; that debuted in a different fighting game; of which Capcom actually holds the copyright for, hence why he was made into a costume in Street Fighter V. Similarly, Street Fighter EX (and in turn, Fighting Layer and Fighting EX Layer) are a different beast to the main Street Fighter series.

I am checking it just now. Whatever that thing is, is a fever dream. A shame there is no forklift, so Marie Korbel, the Skullgirl, could become forklift certified.

Unsure if it counts:
Cyber Troopers Virtual On - Sega / Hitmaker - contentious because the perspective is over the shoulder and it plays more like a mecha shooter.
Destrega - Koei / Omega Force - might be a little too close to a shooter than a fighting game
Twinkle Star Sprites - ADK - it's a versus shoot-em-up about magical girls and fantasy bullshit; but due to the nature of it being an STG that thinks its a fighting game I'm not sure if it will count.
Primal Rage - Atari Games - While it is a fighting game, do you want dinosaurs roaming over New Meridian?
[X] Plan What follows now
-[X] (Voice 1) "We are sorry for this Marie...we really thought the Life Gem could help you. I'm sorry for the pain it caused you."
-[X] (Voice 2) "Indeed young lady. Still, this does not mean we will stop aiding you. We will find a solution together."
-[X] (Voice 2) "Madam, we are currently unable to free you totally from the Skullheart clutches. There are restrictions to what type of abilities we can offer you and while they are somewhat lax, there are some we definitely can't break. But know we are doing whatever we can to free you from the cursed heart."
-[X] (Voice 4) Atta girl kid! That's the spirit! Now, we don't got eyes on the outside right now, but I'd say you're more than likely going to see that girl we commented you about or Mister Ben once you get to the Bottom. But don't worry! We are sure you can talk with them! Ben is a nice guy and the gal called Squigly can be reasoned with, maybe they can help you!"
-[X](Voice 5): "But be ready to run if necessary."
May 24th, nighttime, Medici Tower lobby
Squigly's been having such a weird day. A new Skullgirl reviving her, that she expected. It was going to happen eventually, with how Skullgirls work. But this Skullgirl isn't trying to kill everyone! As far as Squigly can tell, she hasn't done anything! Why was Squigly revived if the Skullgirl doesn't want more bodies for her undead army? It doesn't make any sense.
And then when she got to the place where she felt the Skullgirl going to/being at, she met a man who looked like he was half tuba and a woman made out of intestines. Totally freaky, but a cool kind of freaky. They knew about the Skullgirl too, but they came to negotiate. Neither of them looks undead, but Squigly still thinks they might be mind-controlled somehow. Even with the tuba man, Big Band, telling her how he's already met the Skullgirl and thinks she's not that dangerous, it's still the Skullgirl. But apparently the man promised a friend of the Skullgirl he'd try to let her live, and he's not gonna break that promise. At least he and the intestine woman look pretty tough, so if they're wrong, they can handle it. Especially since Squigly'll be there to help. She won't even say "I told you so" that much. From what Big Band told her, this Skullgirl does sound like she's not as bad as they usually are. And Squigly hasn't seen any other undead, so maybe he isn't wrong. And maybe she'd like an excuse to stay awake a little longer.
So here Squigly is, waiting around with a pair of the strangest people she's ever met to see if the Skullgirl's going to play nice. If you'd told her this would be happening even a couple hours ago, she wouldn't believe it. There really isn't a limit to the crazy stuff people will do. And now, she hears footsteps from above, fast ones. If it's not the Skullgirl, it's someone running away from her. Squigly grits her teeth and gets ready to stay quiet. She's no diplomat, and she refuses to be the reason why any peace talks fail.
And soon enough, the source of the footsteps appears. It's the Skullgirl, and she looks... weirdly normal. She has a Skullgirl's white hair and red eyes, sure, and she's missing a lot of her body, but her face... it's not the face of a Skullgirl. This girl doesn't look murderous, just tired. Like she's carrying something heavy and can't put it down yet, but she can see the place it needs to go.
The Skullgirl- no, she's going to use the name Big Band mentioned. Marie looks at the three of them. Big Band, she smiles at, a sad smile. Ileum, the intestine woman, she's confused at. And Squigly... Marie sees Squigly and looks like the guiltiest girl in the world.
Marie turns back to Big Band and says, "Hello again, Mister Ben. Did you see my friend Patricia?"
The man nods. "Yep. She's not in great shape, but she's getting better. Wants you to visit, if you can."
There's a lot unspoken there, but Squigly can guess. She wants to see if you're still her friend or just a monster now.
"I think that's doable," Marie tells him. "I've just freed up a lot of time in my schedule."
"Who was it?" Big Band asks her.
Huh? That's a strange thing to ask - no, wait, he's asking who Marie killed. If she just killed someone she really wanted dead, maybe she'd decide to stop killing early to... turn herself in? Big Band did say he and Ileum knew people who were trying to solve the problem of Skullgirls permanently. If Marie knows that too, maybe she wants them to - keep her from hurting anyone else. Squigly's barely seen Marie, but already she feels more like a person than a monster.
"Lorenzo Medici," Marie says. "Just him. I only needed to kill him. I needed to kill only him. To prove the Skull Heart doesn't rule over me."
Prove it to who, Squigly wonders.
Marie fishes something out of a pocket. It's a gem on a necklace cord, round and red. Squigly thinks it almost looks like a scoop of ice cream.
"More proof," Marie says, then tosses the gem to Squigly, who catches it by the cord. "That gem has magic powers. It makes you live, even when you shouldn't."
Marie turns to face Squigly directly. "All you have to do is touch it. It might be painful, but at least you'll never have to worry about a future Skullgirl controlling you."
Big Band and Ileum turn to face Squigly, and she can feel them waiting to see what happens. She'll have to take one for the team, she supposes.
Marie was right, the gem is painful. Squigly can feel her body growing back, with Leviathan shifting his position in her body to move out of the way of the parts that are reappearing. He's doing something else, Squigly can feel it. Something to make sure the changes stick, she thinks. That... makes sense. The Skull Heart's power was why she was walking around to begin with, and it probably doesn't want to give up any of its toys. Another thing to be grateful to him for.
Finally, after an amount of time Squigly thinks is both five seconds and five years, the gem is finished doing its work. Squigly looks at her hand holding the gem. It's the same color it was when she was alive. So's her other hand. Squigly lets go of the gem. It falls to the floor. Her skin doesn't change back to decaying blue. Squigly falls to her hands and knees, tears threatening to fall. Her curse is broken, she's alive again.
Once she can stand again, Squigly walks over to Marie and puts her arms around this impossibly kind girl. There's only one thing she can say to Marie, but it's all she needs to say.
"Thank you."
Marie stiffly returns the hug, then relaxes after a moment.
"You're welcome," she says. "It was the least I could do."
After a long moment, Squigly lets go of Marie, who then picks the gem back up and puts it in her pocket again. Maybe she wants to use it on herself later? She doesn't seem to have a Parasite like Leviathan, and the Skull Heart probably wants to keep a Skullgirl more than it cares about one random zombie, so it'd make sense if she couldn't get the healing to stick like it did for Squigly. Squigly exchanges a look with Leviathan, who nods. If they can figure out how to get Marie her own life back, they're going to do whatever they can.
Marie turns back to Big Band and says, "I'd hold out my arms for you to handcuff me, but I don't know if you brought any handcuffs."
"I think we can do without them," he tells her. "Come on, I'll take you to where Patricia's at. I think she'll be real happy to see an old friend again."
"Yes," Marie says. "I think she will."
The three of them, Big Band, Ileum, and Marie, get ready to leave for wherever it is they need to go. If Squigly doesn't act do something, she won't be coming with them. Won't get a chance to repay Marie.
"Can I come along?" she asks before they have a chance to leave without her.
"I don't see why not," Big Band says with a nod.
"We always have a place for those with nowhere else to go," Ileum adds.
And that's that. Squigly joins the group as they head out Medici Tower... only to quickly run into a woman Squigly is all too familiar with. The most dangerous person in the country, if not the whole world. A woman who's fought multiple Skullgirls and won. The woman who killed her.
"I was wondering why Vitale wanted me here, but I think I can guess," says Black Dahlia.
The demon disguised as a woman loads the gun she has in place of a right arm and barks out a challenge, a taunt, and a threat all at once.
"Show me a good time, Skullgirl!"
What will you give Marie to help her in this fight?
[] Write-in
A/N: Leviathan does something to help keep Squigly free of the Skull Heart's control when she's a zombie, so becoming alive again isn't as difficult for her. Also, this will be the last story post for today, so have fun thinking of what you get to give Marie for helping her prevent a fight from happening. Black Dahlia could never be persuaded to let Marie go in peace, since she's... uh, herself, but if you'd made different choices, Marie might not have stuck around the tower long enough to run into her. At least Marie has people on her side for the fight. She'll need them.
Thank you for bringing it to my attention, and thanks to @SaberFail for putting that list together. It's definitely getting a threadmark. As a reward, you can ask me for a hint under the usual rules for hints.
Awww, glad to see Marie showing her character development here. This is such a heartwarming moment. Marie is off to meet Patricia and Squigly is back to being alive-alive!

And then YOU show up! Goddamit Dahlia don't ruin this!!!
My second worst fear happened, dammit, we are roped into a. Fight with Dahlia.
Thankfully Marie is at a better mindset and has Big Band and Squigly as support…but this doesn't give as much of an advantage as people might think.
…y'know, it would be funny if we could apply a "Semi-Perfect Cell vs Vegeta" situation were we tell Black Dahlia that currently Marie isn't at her strongest and can't give her the fight she wants, to wait a bit so she can get ready and give her what she wants…
Real talk, we need to have Marie break her limbs, the gun and the legs need to go, make Black Dahlia become like Cynte from Endoparasitic once again.
