Unpopular opinions we have on fiction

"Let's go! open up, it's time for Unpop!"
Alright, time for my mandatory Unpopular Opinions Post. Let's get this over with.
"You're late. You know the deal. You can Omelaspost for a Funny, or you can make an interesting post for an Insightful."
Here in Unpopular Opinions Poster Civilisation, no one chooses to make interesting posts. It's better to make the one joke everyone knows for the Funny, rather than risk your entire life for just one Insightful rating.
"Tomorrow you better not be late, or I'll have you posting for Informative reactions as punishment."
"Yes sir, sorry, I won't be late next time."

Down here, us Omelasposters only get one Rating a day. One Funny rating is just enough to get your post:reaction ratio to the next day. But that's the life of Unpopular Opinions Poster Civilisation. If you wanna survive, you have to Unpopular Opinions Post. Every Omelasposter has the same goal, and that's to make it to the top thread, where all the Brothers Karamazovposters live. Except, most Brothers Karamazovposters are born on the top thread. If you're an Omelasposter, there's only one way up, and that is through the Temple of Unpopular Opinions. The Temple of Unpopular Opinions is the only structure on SV that combines the bottom thread to the top thread. To make it up, you have to post an impossibly hard Unpopular Opinion Reply that no Omelasposter has ever completed. And that's assuming you even get the chance to post the reply in the thread. The inside of the Temple is protected by a barrier and the only way an Omelasposter gets past the barrier is if they've earned a gilded post. I've never even tried getting a gilded post before, but if I'm going to rank up to a Brothers Karamazovposter one day, I'm gonna have to.

The premise of the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda just bugs me.

Like, it feels cowardly like Bioware realized they had broken their setting with 3's ending, but didn't have the strength to fix it or move on.

There's also something with Andromda Initiative in-universe that irritates me as well: namely, it seems to put very little thought towards the idea that maybe, just maybe there are people living in Andromeda already? I think there was some token mention in materials of first contact protocol and the like, but there's a line in one of the trailers that's something like 'here, we're the aliens' and I'm like 'no shit sherlock'. Apparently, the early objective of the mission was to reach some habitable planets they had detected, no one stopped to consider the possibility that those living in the Galaxy would likely be able to detect such worlds first and probably reach them, that maybe all this will end up accomplishing is creating a new migrant fleet in a far away galaxy.

It would have made some sense if it was a desperate attempt to escape the Reapers like everyone had assumed, but with the explanation of it being some pre-war private project, the whole thing strikes me as an a way to cash in on the buzz around SpaceX and the like.
It doesn't help that the only new alien species we've seen, seems like it's going be the main antagonists.

Fucking stop with the Whedon-Banter, people!

Stop homgenizing your stuff to match perfectly with whatever bland pop bullshit has been pushed out to suck up gobs of money and do your own thing.

Check the dialogue of literally any movie post, charitably, the Avengers.

It's like cinema has decided that every protagonist must be a cheap Tony Stark, and I am real sick of that.
Oh, do you mean the recent trend of writing dialogue full of snarky quips that are often quite mean and insulting, making them look like assholesn, or deflate the tension in a scene by making it appear as if the protagonists are not really in danger?

Because if you mean that, yes, Whedon has a lot to answer for. If only because lots of people copy his style without understanding what makes it work (bathos, people! Also, he's actually funny most of the time...), and even Joss Whedon himself has... kinda let himself go.

TBH is there a better alternative option that could accommodate Mass Effect 3 ending choices ?

I like Shinn Asuka's character arc as it is in Gundam SEED Destiny but I wished they killed him off as it would show how tragic he is.

Oh and adult Goku is boring as all hell.

I thought this was the 'Unpopular Opinions' thread :V

Let me one-up you: I think Amy Rose could be good foil/love interest(preferably both) to Sonic if Sega let her go through Character Development. Which they won't, so. Yeah.

I think Sonic Boom (show) Amy is pretty good.

Sonic Boom (show) is pretty fun in general, mind....

Archie Comic Amy isn't too bad either.

Archie!Amy when you think about it and thanks to the mandates shoving her in the spotlight to the detriment of the other characters and her behavior (still being that super obsessive fan-girl and trying to seduce Sonic) makes her look like an insensitive shit (In the Mecha Sally Arc) and Creator's Pet.

Okay, why exactly do you think this? Please, back up your statements here.

Why should I? No else does. :V

But, if you insist... WH40K and Imperium are built around struggle, around conflict, around the eternal war and, surprisingly, heroism. You can hardly win in the long-term, and universe really hates you, but everyone gives their damndest to keep fighting, it is still possible to do good, and you can have some victories, even if they are small and fleeting.

Shape goes full 'rocks fall, everyone dies' and just has everything ending with a fart.

No seriously. The show is legit pretty funny.

It's very strange, because they more or less turn it into Seinfeld with talking hedgehogs and it doesn't take itself seriously at all, but it's funny.

Practically the entire show can be viewed on YouTube too.

Not at all seriously, and quite meta at that :)

This is unpopular? There's a reason Goku's presence kind of disappeared from Dragon Ball after he grew up. Vegeta and Piccolo are more memorable, the former for his personality, the latter for his character design.

In fact, if you watched the discussions about Dragon Ball even here in SV, most of them will talk more about Goku's kids than Goku himself.

It's like his character already past the life cycle to being dust and dead. Wait.

I agree with the Shinn Asuka part too. Back when I watched GS Destiny I was expecting him to die any moment in that final battle, but apparently Sunrise wanted to fully re-emulate the Kira Yamato Route so he live on until the epilogue. At least his character arc conclude nicely.

The original Dragon Ball was better than Z/GT/whatever the hell this new one is. Even if it was probably 25% tournament arcs. Especially because it was 25% tournament arcs.

Star Trek Beyond is the worst nuTrek movie.

Instead of showing the characters being smart by making clever and reasoned choices, it simply uses the "determination is will save you" trope to every issue.

This was already apparent in the final Spoke/Khan slug-fest, it's even more flagrant in Beyond.

It's not boldly going anywhere, rather it's spending its time rehashing the most used action movie trope there is.
