"Helm" was obviously the locals' tongue for "port", so calling it Port Port is kinda silly.
Let's call the city RICKtopia, after the great dictator himself!
Or Helmastor, the combination of Helm and Astor!
Well most places are generally name for geographic features that they are on or near.
Or famous individuals who lives there.
In this case you can think of the history regarding the region. If it was one of the first places the empire captured it could be called spearpoint, the breach or something along those lines. Maybe have the city name mocked in some way or disdained by the locals cus as of right now the local customs and traditions prob need to be fleshed out a lot.
If yes, do you have the prerequisite knowledge for that to be relevant to our gameplay and choices, including things like starting our own bank (and the massive politics involved) and taking out loans?
The Empire absolutely has banks. Do I know the first thing about banking? Probably. Do I remember it? ...maybe less than I should. I'm fairly confident I could brush up on this though. Thanks for the suggestion!
(The Treehugger banks will remain my personal little schrodinger's cat for now.)

If the water near the city is clear and pretty then maybe clearport, if the ocean is dark or waves are a bit powerful /treacherous then maybe something referencing that.
The locals are blonde which is interesting. Our red hair made us stand out, what color skin and hair do the imperials have?
They called us bloody imps when we first arrived so maybe the locals think the empire demons? So demonic names could work too, especially since there was a failed uprising I'm sure it wasnt bloodless or pretty. ( examples need to be made after all )
So there could be geographic features in the city like "the gallows" "blaze town" "blood street"

Since we're a bard, it makes sense to have a musical name.
Also, the town is a port, so we should include a nautical reference.
Like Sea's Note, or Tempo's Pearl.

Well, that...worked? I've picked out the name. I'm not going to put it to a vote, because you guys don't get to decide what the locals used to call the place. Some day you may get to rename things, but be aware that doing so in-universe will have...consequences.

They would slowly move around the region, stopping in at Port [To Be Renamed] with their paperwork yearly, allowing more people to access the banking system without actually needing to come to the city.
That's a mistake you should never rectify, unless you want to spend hours upon hours of time staring at a map and taking over the world.
Though I guess the stats and theme are the only things we take from CK2.

The options are taking a bit longer to pull together than I had anticipated, unfortunately. I am working hard on this, but the update may not be out for a while yet. I'm hoping to have it ready for release sometime today, but it may be tomorrow instead.
Lol. You've been pushing for this from day one, haven't you. I'm afraid I've grown paranoid about confirming things one way or another when your character has no way of knowing it so the answer is: you don't know. Rickard has never heard of a magician who performed magic through song, but he's not exactly an expert.
Regardless, I doubt you'll ever be quite like a D&D Bard, not the least of which because I have no direct experience with D&D. (My tabletop experience begins and ends with Pathfinder).

So is learning going to be mostly developing new tech? How high tech are we going to get? Like da Vinci levels of invention, but put into action?
I can imagine a one-man flying contraption being developed in the future!

In the quest I've stolen most of this format from, Learning was the "invent new stuff" category. So it's where you'd develop new weapons that you later train your soldiers to use, for example. That being said, I want this to feel like a realistic level of progression here, so don't expect Sara to be cracking the secrets of nuclear fission anytime soon.
I also expect the addition of magic to have an impact on the kinds of things that are possible, so a one man flying machine might actually be feasible to create in conjunction with sorcery, instead of one that theoretically works but no man could possibly be strong enough to use.

Cool! I hope we could have the learning and sorcery departments work together for some projects to make awesome magical artifacts!
Like golems, superbows, or some other magitech items!
So, the update is finished. I'm just tidying up some odds and ends and then it should be up shortly after that. For those of you who are interested, I've updated the Quest Mechanics Informational post. I've also updated the People of Interest Informational post, and your ministers most important stats are now listed.
Here's a new map, by the way. Say hello to your new neighbors who have both decided to call their earldom Anselm after the river. Naturally, neither of them is willing to budge on the issue, so they'll be North Anselm and South Anselm for everyone else.
And yes, the river is their shared border.
