Pesudo-Servant. Demi-Servants (like Mashu/Matthew) and Pseudo-Servants (like Lord El-Melloi II/Zhuge Liang) are two different things.
With a Demi-Servant, the Heroic Spirit bestows some of their power to an individual, but as far as we can tell, their consciousness doesn't remain.
With a Pseudo-Servant, the Servant rides within the vessel, allowing their power to be used, but the personality in-charge may be one mind, the other, or something in between the two (this was discussed in Zhuge's profile - in his case, Zhuge's will is staying back and mostly leaving Waver's mind to take the reins).


Because the Einzberns have trust issues after how the Fourth Holy Grail War went, so they wanted to have Illya summon a powerful Servant, but one who couldn't plot against them (and hence why they specifically chose to summon a Berserker).

Funnily enough, putting Herc into Berserker class was one of things that actually went exactly as planned.

Unfortunately for them, they didn't really plan on Illya not giving a fuck about making them win, so that ended up amounting to nothing.

Today we learn that no one at Type Ace has ever read a Sherlock Holmes story, seen any of the films, or even glanced at one of the many television adaptations.

Holmes was a boxer and stick fighter with some knowledge of baritsu who occasionally used a revolver at extreme close range. He never, ever, not even in the Guy Richie movies did he use a sword. There's more evidence for him being a Lancer than a Saber (given that in "The Adventure of Black Peter" he spends a day skewering pig corpses with a harpoon) Saber Holmes is bloody daft.

For heaven's sake Holmes mastery of disguise comes up far, far, far more often than the few passing references to his combat skills, he's an Assassin! An Assassin, man! Possibly an unorthodox Caster.

Also, John Watson was a fictional character invented by Clocktower member Arthur Conan Doyle to replace Holmes' true best friend and assistant Arcueid Bruunstead when Doyle was given the job of covering up Holmes and Arcueid's battle against Roa incarnation James Moriarty and saw the opportunity to make a few bucks on the side.

I will never cease to love this headcanon. I can't even remember where it first popped up here on SV, but it will still be true to me always.

EDIT: *checks back* Oh. I came up with it when you suggested Moriarty as Roa. No wonder I like it, it's mine.

    My own headcanon is that Einzbern Castle is basically Harbringer from Mass Effect, with the entity we know as "Acht" being the equivalent of the Collector General.

    Someone should take that to its logical conclusion, have a Grail War with swarms of hominculi that keep getting possessed by "Acht", and also the Castle itself gets up and swims to Japan as a giant stone kraken golem thing.
