What you say makes sense, but also looking at the sheer scope of stuff we can find just in Mesagoza, we could spend the whole quest rolling to try and figure out our "top 5", or we can go with the flow and pick up folks who fill niches on the team narratively and tactically. I personally think Espurr happens to do both, although if it was just the other two, I might agree with you.I don't want to grind. But given the reminder that we will be limited to five new pokemon in total for the entire game, I do think we should at least look at whats on offer.
I argued for Espurr under the assumption "which of these three is best". Now I know that the question is "Out of every pokemon that could possibly show up this entire quest, do you think one if these would be in your top five?" To which my preffered answer is "can I see whats on offer first?"
EDIT: Also worth noting that all the Pokémon available here are ""weak"" primarily in terms of base stats, which aren't really a thing in the major battle system as written. There's probably better 0-badge pokemon, but the difference between strong and weak among wild Pokemon is gonna be down to how we train and bond with them more than species.
