[X] …You?

I don't like losing an AP point every so often, but this seems very much in-character. Mary would definitely say: "Screw it, I'll vote for myself, I doubt anyone else'll vote for me. So it won't matter that much." While she forgot that she's the only one in class with more than one friend in Class VII. On the Rival Battle...

[X] Rival Battle
- [X] Nemona
- [X] Offense
[X] Rival Battle
- [X] Nemona
- [X] Attrition

Honestly, I chose this because I am a sadist towards Mary looking forward to developing Dreepy's specialty. While we aren't likely to win, no one'd fault us for losing to Nemona and we'd probably get the most experience this way. Even if we won against Erika, I doubt it'd be as useful as a losing (possibly winning if the dice gods bless us) battle against Nemomomomomona.

Hm. I hadn't considered that Infestation's DoT effect is technically a secondary effect, since it normally happens automatically (i.e. not the 10% or 30% chance of things like Flinch on Bite or Paralyze on Thunder Shock). I think this is a valid question for the QM, but by a plain reading of the rules listed so far you are correct.
Infestation's DOT is indeed a secondary effect. I compensated for it being a chance by making it stackable and non removable.

Mary trying to abstain from voting by voting for the one person surely no one would vote for, only to win is a very fun situation.

Like, against a pokemon that doesn't resist Bug and a equal or less skilled trainer? Attrition stalling with Roland would work great at winning against superior pokemon via speed. We should have Roland able to do both for the future. But now, Offense seems to have better odds.

You decide to lean over where you're sitting from so as to move her hair out of the way and back behind her head. Erika looks up from what she was reading and sees you. Her face grows red and she makes a wheezing noise. Now you're worried.

"Are you alright, you look flushed?" You say, worrying for her health.

"I-I'm fine just, uh, you're— I mean it's pretty hot in here, huh?!"

Can't wait for everyone in Class VII except Ostia to fall for Mary with her being oblivious to all of it

It's something of a Trails tradition. Even aside from memes about Rean as a harem protagonist, Lloyd has no shortage of interested women he mostly ignores because he's married to his job, and Estelle has no shortage of interested women she mostly ignores because I'm not sure she ever figured out girls can like other girls.

We'll just have to see how our swag stacks up against Elise's, really.

Y'know I wonder how much of it is Obliviousness compared to just, sheer ignorance. Our girl does not have any self-esteem right now, wouldn't be shocked if she simply cannot process someone liking her.

Mary the kind of girl who, when receiving a confession, would short-circuit for 10 minutes before going "Haha nice joke!" and then walking off before the other person can respond

Nemona's advantage on Effect rolls - being probably the only student who outright beats us in SKLL
Ostia is a 13 to our 12, but I guess that would still put us in third place by your reckoning? Are we really that far ahead of the curve with that stat?

Ostia's already fallen platonically, I'd say. I think we can check them off as conquered on the list, imo. Elise may have gotten most of Rean's protagonist traits, but I guess Mariana is the one who picked up his rizz and inferiority complex, lol.

Nemona has 14 SKLL. Ostia has 13. You're tied with two other people in Class 7 for SKLL 12. The average new Mesagoza student has 8 SKLL. The average new trainer going on their journey has 6.

Oh lordy. Her imposter syndrome is even worse than I thought. Twice the skill of the average trainer, and still a whole third more than most people getting into a prestigious school like Mesagoza? And she's still Like That™.

Incidentally, by this metric that would make Nemona be the Demon King, and Ostia, Mary, and two others the Four Heavenly Kings of Class VII. How fun.

We really have been shunted to supporting character status huh? I'm down with that who needs to be a protagonist we're busy caring for Ostia. And ourselves.
The main joke here is that Elise is based on the protagonist of Trails of Cold Steel, while the rest of the class is very loosely based on other members of the canonical class VII.....or at least their backgrounds. That said, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if Elise tied into whatever the most overarching and dramatic plot in this setting is in an intrinsic way, but that doesn't mean we're not the hero of our own story. Trails, and even Pokémon games recently, have been remarkable about having a nice ensemble of characters who all have their own story niche that weaves into the overall narrative.

Admittedly, if we're Gaius, that's probably the least plot a Cold Steel playable has...but that just gives more room for Pokémon stuff.

If the votes keep up her first fight is going to be against Nemona too, which means her perspective of her own skill is going to be tainted by thinking the average student is at Nemona's level aha. Imposter Syndrome Ahoy!

I know that! I was just making my own joke about it! After all protagonist or not Class VII handles their problems together as a unit regardless of who's taking the charge.

Gotta make sure to get a bird shaped Flying type and throw in a couple lines about the Wind of course.

"I was kidding about the single mother thing! Don't actually try to adopt the kid." That's an idea, though you don't have the means for that yet.
Keyword to notice here: Yet. Also, thanks for giving us the idea!

Of all the things to learn from Rean and Lloyd, it's not their denseness.

i think the likely impacts of this on mariana character-wise sound fun and interesting

She doesn't realize she's actually that good because her KNOW stat is too low for her to realize it until she gets a kick in the face from actually winning battles.

Quite the terrifying little strike team Leaf has put together here.

(Mariana's adult-aged ex-gifted kid burnout is going to be spectacular.)

May not be the right academy, but Plus Ultra is the way to go in any case!

Push ourselves to the very limit!

Also that passive League Point gain is very nice.

You know, if we get voted class president and then also beat Nemona in a battle, just imagine how smug our friends are going to be when questioned about their votes.
