Frankly I find it absurd that you're forgetting to include Raihan in your examples. His and Leon's romantic rivalry is what's iconic," Theodora interjects into your conversation, almost shouting from the front.
You're so right Theodora don't let anyone tell you otherwise. That includes about Red and Blue as well.
The sole Charcadet she's seen the whole week. As she puts the Fire-type into the Pokeball
God I have seen what you have done for Elise and I want this for us too.

The Charcadet...
EDIT: wait, Roland's third Tera type is Steel. He could have no-sold that even harder, although we weren't given that option while strategizing. Might be worth remembering when we're doing other Gyms, there's not a lot of them that can hit Steel for super-effective STAB.
You're telling me there was the perfect moment to follow the quest's namesake, and go Tera Steel on them, and we didn't get to take it? This is so sad.

Eh, looking at the documentation that was just posted, I think the Shadow Sneak Tera STAB was more important. Now, what'll be really handy is if we can find Roland a Steel-type attack TM...

Also noting that Dig doesn't seem to give semi-invulnerability in this system, so that might be worth remembering. Or it's just because we kept countering each other's digs with other Ground-type moves and tunnel fighting in general.

Had a third Pokemon in the back pocket.

We know that Mary can't use Espurr in this fight, but Katy doesn't know that. From her perspective, she needs to provide Mary with a challenge, and she's facing down a challenger who has two essentially fresh Pokemon left. She needs to throw out a Pokemon that can deal with the fresh Pokemon currently out on the field and still be able to do something the final Pokemon Mary has in her back pocket.

It's that 2v3 disadvantage. Katy can't operate under the assumption that Mary will forfeit if Dreepy goes down. If she did realize that, she would have gone much easier on Mary, I'm sure.
And we still one!

So clearly we should keep getting pokemon we can't use so we can battle with a hand behind our back as extra training, got it.

Katie sends out her last Pokemon. Cutiefly (2-Badge). SKLL Modifier is changed to a -5 (Somewhat Serious). Effective SKLL is now 12.
Fuck yeah, seems like we made her sit up. Not all the way of course, she had a gear or two to go before she went all in (probably like she did with Nemona) but I'm happy with our results.

Winning the DPS race was likely the key to our victory seeing the hard numbers and how close they were.

I imagine a bird at our level would have fuck all to do other than buff itself or recover if we were underground.

Just about clutched it in the end, with both of our team putting in work for the win.

For the vote I'm definitely going for Ruby. Drillbur likes gemstones, and it sticks with the R-theme for the names we already have.
You resist the urge to bite into it to see if it's real gold. You've embarrassed yourself enough today. You won. You have a badge.
What a big brain you have Mary, to hold all that doublethink. Glad she actually felt better at the end though.
"Will you be okay?" you can't help yourself from asking.
Mariana, literally shaking with nerves after 2v3ing her first gym, upon seeing the Leader look a bit tired: "Are you ok?"
Looking back at the arena as you leave, you feel a lot lighter than when you entered. Winning feels great.
I am curious whether she'll end up enjoying battling for it's own sake after breaking her hangup over her own skill, or whether she'll settle into enjoying it more as a test of her skill/for her team's sakes.
Might be because tales of exploits are beginning to be known across the land. Or more likely, Nemona shook her up and she was excited to see if any of Class VII could keep that pace going.
She did say she was happy to see her Alma maters students here.
Combined with Thursday's Rewards does this push Drilbur to Badge-2 level?
Pretty sure she reached 2-badge level just before the match.

Lol. This last match really was down to the wire.
However, my thoughts are that Mary might not want to treat Dreepy as her ace unless we can get him to evolve before the next gym battle.
I forget, does ace mean you bring them out last? Not entirely sure how that would work with the Terrain setup strat Mary went for here, unless I'm missing something about Roland's moveset.
He certainly remembers the cat's betrayal of his kindness and the helplessness of struggling against her grasp as she nearly killed his human. And he understands that he will hold that first meeting over the cat forever.

He cannot forget any of it. A Ghost can never forget.
I talked before about getting Roland to Bond 4 before he evolves, but now I think he'll be fine as far as listening to Mary goes.

What the priority might have to be is Renne to Bond 3, if that's what we need to get her to at least acknowledge that she nearly killed Mary. Bond 2 might be enough for that, but I guess we'll have to wait and see for next month.

Ace is typically used for a Trainer's strongest Pokemon/most important Pokemon (in terms of being a centerpiece of a Trainer's strategy/fighting style). Sometimes they might be that trainer's starter but most of the time a trainer's Ace is a different Pokemon

Aaaaaw hell yeah, was looking forward to this update!
That gym battle was, frankly, awesome. Mary's mental state is preserved for another day, Drilbur got to have a good fight, and Roland got to beat up a fairy! Today has been a good day.

Regular Pokeball in hand, Katie sends out her own first Pokemon. Teddiursa, with its fuzzy light brown fur and a pale crescent moon mark on its face, might just be the most adorable Pokemon you've ever seen in your life. You wonder if you can get a plushie or—

Focus! Don't get distracted!
Totally valid reaction. I'm almost willing to bet some trainers wouldn't be able to command their pokemon to attack a Teddiursa due to its massive adorability.

He doubts that Drilbur is stupid enough to dig towards the pond, so it must have been that rude little bug he thoroughly trashed. It's a shame, he can tell she worked really hard on it.
Aw, this was cute. Even if he finds Drilbur pretty annoying, he does respect her ability and intelligence still.

Loneliness defines his species, a hole in them always seeking to be filled. He remembers being the runt of Fathers littler, the newborn to be bullied by his siblings. He remembers his first meeting with his human, the smiles, hugs and caresses she gives him, the patient explanations in both training and learning, and he understands that Mariana is more family to him than even his Father.

He remembers her moments of terror before arriving at that Great Nest of Man, both of their fear at meeting Searching Forbidden Fruit and her swine. He remembers the despair of defeat after that first battle with Sunny's human. He certainly remembers the cat's betrayal of his kindness and the helplessness of struggling against her grasp as she nearly killed his human. And he understands that he will hold that first meeting over the cat forever.

He cannot forget any of it. A Ghost can never forget.
This whole segment is just *chef's kiss* so good. Mary really has become probably the single most important person in Roland's life, which also makes him being angry about Renne attacking her make even more sense than it did before.

"Your battle was amazing, Mariana. Very few first badge battles I've seen online can compare," Erika says to your left, her arm wrapped around yours. It's slightly chilly out, and your friend's cold so she wanted to stay close to you. You don't mind, though she does pull you closer to her sometimes, which makes hearing what Nemona's saying difficult.
Girl isn't even being subtle anymore. It's like she's trying to be an anchor to keep us from straying too close to Mendoza Nemona.

"Oh yeah, this reminds me. Jacinto, congrats on your first badge. Your pops is gonna call once he's no longer busy." She says while finishing signing Nemona's notebook.

"...he's always busy." Jacinto mutters under his breath.
...There's some stuff to unpack there, isn't there. Frankly, with how busy Larry is in general I'm surprised he's even had the time to get together with someone else, let alone have a kid at all.

Pokedollars: 100,000 on your Person
WE'RE RICH! WE. ARE. RICH!

Well, things are absolutely gonna go down hard next chapter. A certain child who went to bed early wouldn't know anything about that, would they?

Personally, just to keep it with the R-theme we've got going so far, and the red spots on an Excadrill's torso, I'm thinking Ruby for her nickname.

Thanks for the chapter!

I'd love to hear more about starters vs aces, in trainer/team dynamics and how they're viewed culturally.

My first off the cuff guess of one example dynamic is if the starter goes down the trainer/team gets pumped in a "you killed kenny!" kind of way, but if the ace goes down morale drops like a rock.

I imagine it's more like the starter is often your mascot or flagbearer, and your ace is the line of tanks you were gonna use as a centerpoint of your strategy. It sucks if your starter is down, but they aren't necessarily the keystone to your strategy or the strongest on the team. Your starter could be a Frosloss you met as a cute little Snorunt but your ace is the Baxcalibur you fought to the near death with in the depths of the mountains who's there to put the enemy into the ground.

  • Trainer Card: Proof that you're a Trainer registered with the Paldean Pokemon League. Also apparently serves as a record of your achievements. Is also an "E-Wallet"? You have no idea what that is.

    Pokedollars: 100,000 on your Person.
League Points: 6,000 on your Trainer Card

Ganzorig Dagger: Made of folded Skarmory wings, the dagger is lightweight and wicked sharp. Deeply valuable to you personally and to your culture. It can be used by a human or any Pokemon that can hold a weapon. Its material means it can absorb Steel and Flying Type Energy up to the 4th Badge Level. Will be an effective tool up to the 4th Badge Level. CANNOT BE USED BY A POKEMON DURING A LEAGUE SANCTIONED BATTLE.

Training Manual "Sealing Spell": Is a Training Manual for a Fiendish Dark-Type Move. Pioneered by monks of the Geomantic Church as a way to seal hostile Ghost and Dark Pokemon. It traps and separates the offending Pokemon from using or manipulating Type Energy. Is needed to repair damaged Ruin Stakes. Has no effect on deactivated or destroyed Stakes. Mariana needs 12 KNOW to be able to teach to a Pokemon. Can only be learned by a 6th Badge Level Psychic or Dark Type Pokemon. Requires them to have mastered a Complex Move.

Lev's Monastery and Jenkin Stake Notebook: Will unlock actions to go to and look at Stakes during Field Exercises and on Summer Break. Jenkin suggests you wait until your 5th Badge until you do so.

Summer Festival Mementos: A Garchomp mask that covers the top half of your face. Some posters of Francesca the Swift. And a pin of Knight Tana. You had a lot of fun didn't you.

  • Outsider: -25% CHRM when interacting with Nationalists and Nobility
Catching Up: x2 KNOW XP gained until KNOW 8 is achieved
Andosin Lifestyle: You know how to cook and prepare all sorts of Pokemon. You still need a Pokemon of your own to hunt though.
Chasing the Sun: The Pokemon Journey has long been compared to a hike up a mountain range that reaches to the very heavens. Many attempt it, most quit before they could glimpse the pinnacles of power. In the distance you see the Sun. Radiant and beautiful, near overwhelming in its glory. Her rise is steady, higher and higher into heavens. And to the stars above. Can you catch it? Can you chase the sun? One Sided Rivalry with Nemona. You will judge your progress and growth by comparing yourself to her. Once she overtakes you, will you be able to keep up?
  • O' Youth: Attend and Graduate Mesagoza Academy
Treasures of Ruin: Four Sealed Horrors. Malevolent. Kept imprisoned by Ruin Stakes across Paldea. ???
Say, does anyone remember our PROW XP level before the update? A part of me thinks it was at 1900 before the Gym Battle, but I can't recall for certain. Though either way we're getting pretty close.

Hmm, hopefully we will get full saturday to ourselv3s and get ro do Crystalline Feline then.

Besides that, yeah, let's go! Roland is just built different, built better.

I doubt it - Saturday we're heading back to Mesagoza, Sunday is washup/next weeks plan vote. We lost the chance to do Crystalline Cat when we did Roland's bond action instead - now we're going to be another week maybe two away from getting Renne willing to fight for us than we could be. Choices have consequences

We're 8 bond points away from Bond 3. 1 from the present, and 1.25 per weekly bond action (about 25% chance of passing a charm check for greatly increase). Even if we get 2 points from the end of week wrapup (possible but not ensured) that's 4 weeks until Renne will fight for us, if we focus on them (which we should, we might be able to get the 2nd Gym without them but not the third)

Also I support Ruby for Drilbur, cute name.

Rolls 126 on a 1d50+75.
Did I miss a modifier somewhere, because this doesn't seem possible?

MAJOR STORY BATTLE. ONE POWERFUL ENEMY VERSUS CLASS VII. DECREASE BOSS HP BY 25% TO WIN. DECREASE IT BY 50% FOR BONUS REWARDS. DEFEAT WILL SUBTRACT 1 AP FROM MONTH 2 WEEK 1 AND PARTICIPATING POKEMON WILL GAIN 2 1 WOUND (EFFECT LOWERED DUE TO BERRY JUICE 1/2)
Looks like we'll be entering the big leagues where it's a matter of doing enough damage before they use their S-break, knocking everyone out.

"Did I hear Leon's name be mentioned? Frankly I find it absurd that you're forgetting to include Raihan in your examples. His and Leon's romantic rivalry is what's iconic," Theodora interjects into your conversation, almost shouting from the front.

"Romantic? It's just a rivalry, I doubt there's anything romantic about it," Nemona responds, confusion clear on her face. You have to agree. Theodora has really got to stop reading tabloids. You still haven't forgotten her talk about Red Isamu and Blue Oak.
I dunno Nemona, I've got, like, 1250 stories that say otherwise.

Elise suggested the Champion being their guardian for some reason, but you doubt it.
For some reason she just feels Geeta looks like a mom. It's a mystery.

"...he's always busy." Jacinto mutters under his breath.
Yeah, sadly when Xerneas made Larry it made him with "overworked" as a primary character trait.

Since Nemona is mentioning those battles, that Mariana's is even on the table to have potential comparisons discussed sounds really good.
Now if only Mariana would think like that.

As far as names go, still refusing to drop both the Trails name scheme and the R's. So I'll just throw out all of them at the same time and call it a day

Heeeeeeeeeelllllllll yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Thats what ive been waiting for!

*ahem*

In all seriousness, great chapter Arvis! We managed to not only put a VERY good showing (handicap and all) we managed to win! *1st badge get!* Drilbur was probably the MVP of that battle, but Roland came clutch when it came down to the wire against that Cutiefly (jeez is beimg mean a fairy thing or a cutiefly thing because both Katies amd nemonas bug-fairies seem to have a mean streak on them). As for the battle...

Yeah Drilbur is gonna be a menance when she groes up amd apperently may have the basis for a custom electic mine move in the wings (more traps and emtry hazards? Goooooood.....) but yeah, uff, poor mole got drowned, we really should figure out out ARGUS more like someome suggested, trouble of going underground? Our pokemon cant hear our warnings.

Second: Welp, no Crystalinne cat. Wamp wamp. Eh well get there eventually.

Third: Roland is best boy and he is getting a new move with that tm soon enough and is probably going to be reaaly good next boss fight, we may need a dps check (Renne please help) but infestation and Will o wisp is also viable for doing damage for that bonus reward (although......)

4th: A boss fight agaimst something extremelly powerfull, ehhhh probably it isnt a actuall Tera raid pokemon and is probably a Evil guy tm* who is out of our league or a mind controlled pokemon from the surroundimg area, thanks to all the gigaremo units and all that. Potential bosses if its from the wild are: Ursaring (no guts please), Ursaluna (yikes), Lokix (ehh), Bronzong?, magnezome (yikes), applin evos? (Flapple or appletun... or *deep breath* Hydrapple), Bisharp (because of the Leo connection, please no Kingambit), Tinkaton? (Ehh unlikely) and potentially worst case scenarios (you know... not countimg the 3rd stage evos) a Chargecadet evo (Cerudege or Armorouge kinda.... yeah no a Poweful mon of either species would stomp us HARD) Or if Arvis is feeling sadistic (or some insane natural one roll) Type-Null .....yeah no we lose if that happens, but hey at least we can burn this one!...... *let me cope*)

Sorry for the long ass word vomit, but thats probably everything from till the eventuall scripted loss boss fight... oh wait name vote right hmmm... from what ive seen theres a couple of good names being suggested... Ries (hmm nah), Rixia (ehh), Rosine (hmm), Risette *stares at name sake* oookkkk, Ruby (not Trails theme but keeps the R, nice), Tita (i like this one but looses the R), Jill (no idea where this one is from but from the link? Good), amd Millium (0 clue about her bit people say the personality fits sooo ehh)..... eff it:

I vote for:

[X] Risette
[X] Ruby
[X] Tita
[X]Millium
[X] Jill

1 R+Trail name, 1 R+ gem name, 2 trails - R names and a wild card.
Welp thats it for me *im wakkos voice* Good night everybody!
