besides all of that is also the simple fact that if we just save up money now instead of reinvesting it into our team we're just limiting our growth needlessly.

Yea I'm a fan of a reuseable Protect TM, but there's probably other good options on how to spend our cash for power when we get back to Mesagoza. Might to worth investing an action in.

I really do wonder if we get a bonus of some kind for that 20. We did crit after all. Doesn't even need to be an actual reward, just a story bonus for it could be cool.

Is there DRM on reusable TMs? Because something that would imo be very in character would be setting up some sort of class-wide pool/library for reusable TMs. I'm not sure about the details yet, possibly setting something up for sharing costs or submission of a TM making you eligible for rentals, but something like that feels like an idea Mary would go for as class rep.

Now we'll get to babysit Poppy again in the future. Also Rika/Geeta have expectations for Mary to do as well the next time.

Did we ever use a TM or TR? I don't remember any. So it would depend on how they work. Some times it's just type energy magic, sometimes it's a mechanical interface, sometimes it's just a literal disc you can watch a tutorial on.

But if I had to guess, I'd say no matter how it functions I'd say it's likely we can share TM's at least, they're meant to be used on multiple pokemon. I guess maybe a TM could be tied to the trainer ID and thus only work on pokemon registered on the trainers team? But that's just speculation.

I wonder if this is another trainer cultural faux pau... are we 'supposed' to hoard our strengths because we're all in competition?

Well, in any case, I'd support a class TM pool. We might have to work through Mariana's inevitable complex about her supposed leeching off of her friends though.

This isn't the way I expected to get to know the Elite Four personally, but "be Poppy's best babysitter" isn't the worst way it could be done I suppose. Wonder how we could leverage that...

Wait. Wait a moment.

Following the defined character roles so far, Geeta is supposed to be Elise's parent I think? If we identified people properly? Since Elise is Rean. And Geeta seems to be the Osborne equivalent. The ages and stuff don't seem to fit perfectly but we've seen roles like that match up fairly well so far.

And Poppy is being raised by Rika and Geeta.

So would that make Poppy the little sister of Elise?

Edit: This just makes Elise failing the babysitting roll more interesting to me.

I have seen debate back and forth about "are the Ironbloods Rean's siblings?" Because the baseline is that most of them were basically pseudo adopted by Osborne, which would make them Siblings to Rean. Claire is even reminded of her Little Brother from Rean.

But its just one of those topics that no one seems to 100% agree on. So in the case of Tera-Steel probably wise to wait for more information before making the Poppy = Sister comparison aha.

Alright, I haven't actually played through all of Cold Steel, so I was just going based on things discussed here about Geeta and Elise's possible relationship with eachother, and then the fact that Poppy seems to have been fully adopted by Rika in the story we got here, and the implications that Rika and Geeta were in a relationship.

For the record, I largely agree that it seems to come off that way. I'm just adding some extra context aha.

Once we get a few badges we might get some sponsors from big brands maybe? Official battles like gym matches and tournaments seem pretty high profile and very public. We probably won't gain much attention at all for getting one badge since it just seems like a test to make sure we have a heartbeat and can command our team, but maybe -combined with the fact that as a Mezagoza student we're more likely on average to make it to the Conference- if we get a second badge early enough we might get some offers?
I just want to point out that we just saw Atticus nearly lose his first Gym battle.

He showed up with a fair bit more than just a heartbeat and the ability to command his team; he has a second-badge Spinarak with surprising variety and a decent number of tricks behind him, including a powerful and surprising move in Electroweb that he used to pretty strong advantage.

Despite this, he still only just tied with Katy, because she is actually testing her challengers, even if it's a pretty low-key challenge for her first gym badge. A Dwebble boosting its Fury Cutter on its own shell is a pretty nasty surprise to throw against someone who isn't prepared for it, and that Surskit was tricky. He actually couldn't beat Katy properly; he drew, and only got his badge because early badges throw the tie to the challenger in the case of a draw.

That doesn't mean Mary will attract any sponsorships or anything, just that they're not exactly guaranteed wins even for trainers skilled for the first-badge level.

IIRC, we used a TR to teach Roland Will-o-Wisp.

I went and checked, and Roland does indeed have Will-o-Wisp on his skill sheet.

However, the only thing listed in our TM Case in our character sheet is TR: Substitute.

I went searching and found this:

Random Simple TM/TR:
TR can only be used once
TM is reusable

TM: Taunt1
TM: Confuse Ray2-3
TR: Will-o-Wisp4
TR: Disable5
TR: Protect6

Btw all the moves here can be learned by Dreepy

So the Will-o-Wisp TR was used up, and we'll only be able to teach one Pokemon Substitute.

To clarify what was established earlier, in the world of this particular quest, Technical Records are single-use, and Technical Machines are unlimited use. TMs are commensurately more expensive, and Leaf isn't likely to hand them out in goodie bags for our class rep work.

I wonder if because Nemona did it Mariana is also going to pull the insane move of "Push Katie to send out her third-badge pokemon and start treating it like an actual battle" or if she's going to just battle and hope to win. I don't think our obsession is quite that bad, yet.

Our team doesn't really have the combo setup potential to punch that far above our weight class at the moment, I think. I wouldn't be surprised if the spectacle was another blow to the inferiority complex, but Mariana should hopefully at least recognize that we don't really have the tools to flip the board like that right now. Best we can do is a well fought 2v3. Still impressive, just not nearly as... Shock and Awe, y'know?

Maybe something we should look into in the future, though.

Nemona had that entire fight set up and won before she even stepped into the arena. Even if we were capable of that level of coordination as a thread, I don't think Mariana is that much of a planner in character. Honestly I'll just be happy if we don't panic ourselves into unforced errors.

I actually don't think Nemona had the entire fight set up. She didn't know what Katy would throw at her; Katy mentions she has a couple of three-badge Pokemon she could throw out, and presumably a Pokemon other than Shuckle would have required a different strategy to beat.

What Nemona had was synergy between her team members. She didn't know that she would definitely need to set up Powders and then draw them in with Wattrel and then blow them up with Monferno, but she gave herself the ability to do so.

She could have done stuff differently if the fight had gone a different way. Presumably, if a different Pokemon had been sent in second, she could have just gathered up the powders and let them do their work on a second Pokemon while Wattrel focuses on evasion/paralysis. Alternately, she could have used the powders to cause a weaker but more widespread explosion to set Sunny up for a combo move with it. She also probably could have led with Wattrel instead and used Wattrel's winds to feed Sonny's flames- that feels like something she'd have considered.

It's actually the thing that first leaped out at me when reading the fight. Nemona is really interesting in that fight because it's clear she's already thought about her team's synergy and the ways she can utilize them as a team as well as individually, and this let her punch far above her weight class from the get-go. It's not a pre-crafted strategy designed specifically to beat Shuckle there, though.
