I'm expecting Renne to show up for boss fights, if we find them. And those are probably not optional, especially not when we're in the same group as Elise, Meddling Kid extraordinaire.
Party about to get curbstomped by some crazy strong wild pokemon like a Tyranitar or something, and then Renne and whatever Ultra Beast Ostia has pop out to bail the party out.

Pretty much all the Eeveelutions are cool and would be good comforting additions to Mariana's team.
I could go for Flareon. They're so fluffy. Definitely the most huggable Pokémon of all. Soft and warm.

Oh come now! Elise gets the actual protagonist stuff! Like being hand invited to work at the ranger station, we didnt get that! We had to bring in a traumatized cat! So it'll be Elise's job next FE!

Or the next FE will be Us, Elise, Jacinto and Manuel and we and Elise will repeatedly stumble over eachother trying to out-protagonist the other one.
"I stumbled through dangerous noble schemes while also getting Manuel and Jacinto to speak civilly with eachother!"

"Oh yeah? Well I took down three different poaching rings and raided a lab that was conducting illegal experiments on Pokémon!"

I'm personally hoping to roll a Flying-type, both for the positive type matchup to the Cortondo and Artazon Gyms, and because I like the aesthetic. Rookidee or Fletchling would both catch my eye very closely, with the former being hilarious if I end up having to argue against the Tinkatink lobby.
Speaking for the Tinkatink lobby, hoping for Rookidee would only make you our enemy if they're in the same vote. The two could totally be friends. If Elise can get Manuel and Jacinto to not kill eachother, we can do the same with bird and bird-attacker.

It wouldn't even be hard mode. Hard mode is getting a Zangoose and Seviper on the same team.

Erika: How come Theodora gets to spend time with her oblivious crush while mine gets to babysit! And I have to deal with Manuel and Jacinto! I Hate Field Studies!
Don't forget she also has to deal with her nemesis Nemona.

If there's one thing worse than dealing with a crush on a girl as oblivious as Mary, it's dealing with the girl she's crushing on who is equally oblivious.

So if Tinkaton are Scottish, would getting a bunch of them make Mary the Queen of Scots?

Pokedollars: 7,000 on your Person.
League Points: 1,000 on your Trainer Card
Current Badge Level: 3-Badge (3000/6000)
Bond Level: Bond 0 (1/2 to Bond 1)
Current Badge Level: 1-Badge (1100/2000)
Bond Level: Bond 2 (2/5 to Bond 3)
We should've been at 35,000 Pokedollars at the start of the week, and I think both of these Bonds should be up by 1 (Bond 1 0/3 and Bond 2 3/5)?

Princess Arcadia is the heiress apparent of the Empire, despite being over forty years old herself. She was the Champion of Paldea around 30 years ago and was an eager supporter in court of reforming the Empire. She's also the one who backed Geeta's appointment as Champion of Empire following some incident a decade ago.
Ohhhhh... Let us hope that she wears bulletproof armour often.
(I know, Eugent let ash shoot him but still)

"If it makes you feel any better, I and Mariana didn't know.."
The protagonists being the last to find out about something is traditional.

Thom and Jeri on the TV, a Unovan kids show about a Liepard and a Patrat.
Ha! Glad to see the best comedy show in existence exist here too! Though I would expect Tom to be a Persian instead.

"Well he's my wittle boy, aren't you?" You rub Roland's face against your own ignoring his halfhearted protests. You kiss him on the forehead, cause of how cute he is. He croons in delight at your affection.
Awww, that's so cute.

Sophia de Cascaraffa
Please don't tell me she's the Rufus of the quest. There's no Magearna discovered yet!

Leaf has not caught on to the super certified Sara-Method
Sara only used that method starting on the second field study.

Group 1: Elise, Theodora, Ostia and Mariana

Group 2: Manuel, Jacinto, Erika, Nemona, Atticus
Oh poor Atticus. Poor Erika too, but I doubt she's going to be able to join the sane people club since she's in the same group as Nemona. Our poor boy here has his work cut out for him. At best he'll have her help only half the time.

On the other hand, our group could only be more ideal if we could also have Erika on our team. Family and friends outing to fight crime.

So. What are the prospects that people want for our 3rd mon? We've got an extremely generalist psychic and a still budding ghost dragon. So what's next?
I think most of the thread has agreed on a third pokemon, a gym challenge, and changing a lightbulb for our field study. For specific pokemon? As said before looking for a specific pokemon right now is pure folly, but I'm hoping for a tank or some type of physical attacker. A rock or steel type would be ideal, but I'll accept something like a G-Yamask or other tanky ghost. Tinkatink.

My vote goes to whichever side I'm told the Tinkatink live on. I am a single issue voter and my issue is getting a Tinkaton.
I suspect East will provide the best opportunity. It has minerals, ruins, and rare pokemon.

Leaf has not caught on to the super certified Sara-Method, in which you put the protagonist (or in this case AT LEAST ONE) on the team with the problem children. She put both of the protagonists on the same team, with people who they get along with great! This doesn't solve anything!
Perhaps she's hoping this is an ensemble anime cast and thus maybe they'll resolve their issues this arc. Or she's testing potential protagonists. Erika has the mysterious otome thing going for her, the thing with Jacinto and Manuel could be a Naruto and Sasuke thing, and Nemona could easily be a shonen protagonist. She's just making sure.

Oh yeah I'm not taking it too seriously, if the ruins has a tinkatink, thats cool, if it doesnt have a tinkatink, like you said, it probably has ghosts, which is very cool for me. So I use the possibility of Tinkatink to lure people to vote my way... and then we get ghost types instead. Fool proof plan/manipulation which me admitting out loud wont ruin at all!
Hey maybe we'll roll extremely well/poorly and find a Spiritomb, I'm definitely sure we can deal with one at our level and won't just be extremely traumatized and wounded by a pokemon every new player mistakes for a legendary or pseudo-legendary pokemon.

Don't forget she also has to deal with her nemesis Nemona.

If there's one thing worse than dealing with a crush on a girl as oblivious as Mary, it's dealing with the girl she's crushing on who is equally oblivious.
It'll be very funny to see how salty and cold Erika will act around Nemona, and Nemona will never in a million years figure out why. Erika interlude when?

Like I said. Fool Proof Plan.
Nothing can ever go wrong! I am always right even when I'm wrong! Heart of the Cards Dice!

Theoretically I should be trying to catch up on dissecting updates in chronological order.

However I'm doing this for fun and you're not my dad.

"Are you sure you don't need me to help, Mariana?" Elise asks, having gotten back from her jog.

You level a flat look at her, all but asking her if she's ever cooked before. From how sheepish she looks, the answer is probably no. Sighing and thinking about the mountain of work you're going to be doing, you finally relent.
Doing this out of order does mean I can't quite go into Elise's deal yet, but I do find it worth noting that she and we are the early risers of the group: Mariana because we're from a working nomadic ranching culture with all that entails and haven't changed our habits yet, and Elise because she's the most into physical personal training of the group, being a swordswoman.

It is interesting she doesn't know how to cook, though, given that just about every Trails character at least knows a few dishes. Then again, Rean's shtick is being average at everything except a couple of Japanese-themed dishes (because he is, again, a turboweeb. Teriyaki Chicken Pizza come the fuck on dude).

"Hmph. Not bad." The first trio to wake up for breakfast were Manuel, Atticus and Theodora. You take Manuel's compliment with the spirit it was given.
He's a tsundere.

"Where'd you say Miss Leaf was headed for the week?" Asks Theodora, likely fishing for gossip. And you're all too eager to provide, unable to help yourself.

"What business does she have in that city state in the first place?" Manuel asks in between mouthfuls of omelet. Theodora gives one of her classic cryptic smiles before responding.

"What indeed…" You get the feeling that Theodora enjoys being all-mysterious like.
Theodora knows who Leaf is. My thought here is that she specifically knows about her connection to the ongoing Rocket plot in Rime City, if not the details of what's going on there. And she very well might.

The morning news seems pretty normal aside from more reports of poachers in Cortondo, which worries you. Poachers were a real nasty problem in the Highlands, often preying on the rare Pokemon only found in that part of the region. Your clan had little lenience and mercy for the ones that managed to find and catch.
I dunno if I need to specify this, but this is gonna be the main plot for the Field Exercise.

Eventually the morning news settles on playing clips from Champion Geeta's speech to the Diet from last night. The only member of the Imperial Family in attendance was Crown Princess Arcadia, who stood out with her line's iconic silver hair. As with any event necessitating the presence of the Arnors, she's yet again standing in for the aged Emperor Eugene Vasco Arnor, who's mostly been confined to the Imperial Palace for the past few years.

This is the first real detail we're getting on the imperial family in this setting, and it's surprisingly different from the one in Trails of Cold Steel. In that setting, Emperor Eugent III Reise Arnor is middle aged, and his kids range from early 20's (non-inheriting bastard Prince Olivert) to mid-teens (twins Crown Prince Cedric and Princess Alfin). It's actually a bit of a change from the previous 2 arcs, which had an aging monarch and head of state respectively, and a major part of the political plotline in both was imminent succession.

Speaking of monarchs, it's interesting that thus far, the ruling monarchs of Paldea (Erebonia) and Galar (Liberl) have been the only Trails characters not to have their names changed in the translation to Pokémon OCs, barring Eugene here having a real name instead of a vaguely German-sounding fictional version. For the sake of completionism on my name meaning posting, Eugene comes from Greek and means "well-bred". Vasco actually comes from Basque and means "little raven" or "crow", as well as calling to mind Vasconia, one of the names for the region where the Basque people live - contrast the Trails family name "Reise", German for "travel" or "trip" (or possibly a misspelling of "Riese" - "giant" or "ogre"). Arnor is borrowed directly from Trails, which in turn borrowed it from Tolkien - Arnor was the defunct northern kingdom of Man during the events of Lord of the Rings, and in Tolkein's etymology means "land of the king".

Crown Princess Arcadia (as a Spain equivalent, it seems Paldea has no legal problems with a female reigning monarch, and may even have equal inheritance given the additional Basque/Navarrese influence) I can't get a formal read on, as her nearest ToCS character equivalent is a 15 year old kid. She's equally likely to be a reasonable authority figure who happens to agree with Reformist modernizations, or a fanatical supporter of Geeta. Arcadia was the domain of Pan in Greek mythology, and is historically used as a poetic name for the idealized form of untouched, unspoiled wilderness.

"some incident a decade ago" is probably this timeline's equivalent to the Hamel Tragedy, the town-eradicating false flag operation that formed a casus belli for Erebonia's invasion of Liberl and probably the worst thing Erebonia's ever done that wasn't Giliath Osborne's fault, as he was busy surviving a concurrent assassination attempt that killed his wife and oh hey look it's unnecessary Trails spoilers. That did not stop him from using the investigation into the matter to propel his career upward and into the Chancellorship and get his would-be killers justifiably executed for treason, though.

"Ten years ago" is going to be just as important as "3000 years ago", though. Based on the timing, I'm betting that the successful Paldean occupation of Porto Marinada is equivalent to the failed Erebonian invasion of Liberl in some ways, but we'll see how this subplot develops.

Unlike in other regions, an ascension of a Champion is based on the reigning Emperor or Empress appointing one, after having chosen from the Champion ranked Trainers in the region. Historically the position had been dominated by either the Arnors themselves or by the Three Great Houses. Geeta Heraclea's appointment as Champion made her the first commoner-born to hold the position in Paldean history. Thus her title, La Primera. The First.
And here we get some important politics, in particular, the ways in which Geeta's Top Champion position crosses over with the position of a Chancellor, that is, a head of government appointed by the head of state (in this case the Emperor). Like Osborne in Trails, she's the first commoner-born person to hold the position. Osborne's title was "the Blood and Iron Chancellor", as a historical reference to Otto von Bismarck. Here her title is the same as it is in Scarlet/Violet, albeit with a different meaning. The details of the "Champion Rank" vs. "[Top] Champion" position are otherwise the same as in the game version of Paldea.

Bulbapedia informs me that "Geeta" comes from "Sagittaria", the genus of the three-leaf arrowhead plant. Heraclea obviously comes from the Greek hero Herakles, and is a common place name in modern Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, and southern Italy. If I had to guess though, this name is in honor of both Geeta's purported strength in battle, and the ancient name for the mountains on the Straits of Gibraltar.

During your musings, Erika and Nemona had woken up (much earlier than they usually do) to eat breakfast. The news was still talking about the Geeta and the Diet and how the Champion put forward another Infrastructure Bill.
Interesting that a hyperactive battler like Nemona isn't also an early riser. Must be a night owl. ADHD do be like that.

"Don't bother hiding it, we know your dad's Elite Four. Nice omelet by the way, Mary." Erika shouted with an omelet still in her mouth. You stamp down the urge to wipe her jaw with how messy she's eating.

Jacinto for his part looks between a mix of embarrassed and horrified. "You guys knew!?"

"Well duh. I've memorized the names of all the Elite Fours in most regions. I wonder when Saguaro is challenging Poppy next…" Nemona muses to herself, having already finished breakfast. A compliment would've been nice but if she didn't say anything, then your cooking probably wasn't good enough.
Erika and Nemona tag-teaming Jacinto with their usual levels of tact. Come on, Mariana, how do you look at this conversation and come to a conclusion other than "Nemona is just kind of insensitive".

Meanwhile I think it was literally just the Protagonists and maybe Ostia who didn't know, making Jacinto slightly worse at this than Alisa. Or Eliot (son of a general). Or Machias (son of the equivalently relevant Heimdallr governor). Or Elie MacDowell (granddaughter of Crossbell's long-serving mayor). Or...I'm gonna be honest the standards for incognito player characters in Trails really fell off after the two distinct, unrelated disguised royals in Sky. At least they had aliases. Even if Olivier's was terrible.

Your head quickly turns to face him. How'd he manage to sneak by you!? Atticus gives you an almost apologetic smile. Damnit, you're the Class President, it's your responsibility!
Atticus is a bro and a ninja.

Pokemon Literacy is a rather fraught subject mostly because it's directly tied to Pokemon Intelligence. From what you remember from your lessons, most fully-evolved Trainer Pokemon know how to read or at the very least can fake it well enough. Psychic and Fairy types take to reading the easiest out of all the Pokemon types. Doremi and Chimu knew how to read and so did your brother's Mudsdale and Mudbray.
I don't know where this particular subplot is going but it is interesting. Likely ties into the divergent and arguable cultural dynamics over to what extent Pokémon are people and to what extent they are animals suitable for service and/or food sources.

For the record, I will eat octopus irl, so I'm not gonna judge anyone who eats even pretty smart Pokémon, or I'd be a hypocrite.

The dull pain of telepathy remains, which you're starting to get worried about. It's not that painful at all anymore, but at this point you shouldn't be experiencing any pain at all. An issue for later.

*gestures frantically at everything wrong with Mariana's brain*

Good to see Renne able to relax though.

I hope no one in this thread is young enough to need an explanation of Tom and Jerry.

They even briefly introduce you to their new Pokemon. Poly the Staryu. They seem really affectionate to Ostia, which the kid returns wholeheartedly. It's hilarious seeing Argy seethe in jealousy at another Pokemon being the center of Ostia's attention. You put the memory of the weird Pokeball in Ostia's bag out of your mind.
Argy seething: >D. Singular squinty eye. Glad Ostia got another friend. Looks like they might be monotyping Psychic? We'll see, though - I still stand for having a diverse, flexible team, but I'm sure Ostia will manage through brute strength anyway.

"I'm surprised you haven't gotten a Pokemon from your family's prized breeders yet." Jacinto jabs at Manuel. Oh here they go again.

"Considering your performance during the Round Robin, I'm tempted to give them a call for your sake. You'd think a Pokemon that was sired by an Elite Four's Altaria would be stronger, but I don't blame Pokemon for the shortcomings of their Trainers." Manuel's response was filled with venom, shocking the entire class. Jacinto looked incandescent with rage. Manuel gives him a look all but daring the bespectacled boy to hit back. This might actually come to blows—
Wow, that escalate--quick. GO, NEMONA!

"So, Nemona darling, I heard you mention something about wanting a third and maybe even a fourth member already?" Theodora raises her voice, interrupting the two boys.

"Huh? Uh, yea. Maybe not a fourth member, the schedule's already gonna be kinda tight. I was thinking of catching a third member and getting my first badge during the Field Exercise. And once we get back on Saturday, we are going back on Saturday, right?" You reread the handout and tentatively nod. "Yea once we're back, I'll challenge my second Gym, probably one of the Glaseado Range ones. Should take about a week accounting for the Gym Challenge." What.

"After that I'll challenge the other Glaseado Range Gym before the second Field Exercise, maybe the Montenevera one, though I don't have a good type against Rocks and Ghosts…" What.

"And then hopefully by the second Field Exercise, it'll be my fourth Gym Battle. I'm not sure I could train my team to a fourth Badge level in time but even if I lose, It'll be a great experience and an amazing battle!" Nemona clasps her hands together in excitement.
Nemona used Hyper Fixation!

It's super effective!!

Anyway, though, this might be a turning point here because......this is patently insane. Like, Nemona can probably do it, and will likely quite enjoy it, win or lose. But what I mean is there's no purpose to it. Getting half the badges in the space of a month serves no actual purpose other than to say you did it, since moving further than 8 badges is gatekept behind an annual Conference tournament. Pushing Mariana to keep up with this level is going to destroy her both in-character in terms of stress and out-of-character in terms of action economy. We can still do it, but I expect the attempt to end in making hard choices between keeping up with our self-imposed goal and being like...a person. And I expect our friends will have things to say about it.

On the other hand...aiming for one badge a month, on the field exercise? That gets us to Conference in one school year, the same as Nemona does, while still letting us continue to be Mariana, instead of an unhappy copy of Nemona. She'll destroy us when we get there, but...I don't think that's avoidable anyway. But that's just my perspective.

"Saguaro's gonna fight Poppy later tonight! Who wants to watch with me!?"
Alright, Saguaro and Poppy. Saguaro's name keeps changing spelling in this update (sorry Arvis you might want to just Ctrl+F "Sagu" and check that way), but by all indications he's meant to be the character from Scarlet/Violet who, in that timeline, would become Naranja/Uva Academy's Home Economics instructor post-Operation Star. There, he has the reputation of a cool and skilled trainer, which is somewhat at odds with his (extremely obvious) natural personality of an effusive lover of all things cute, including his quite dangerous team of cute and pretty Pokémon which seems to be the basis for his tournament team here. Saguaro's name comes from the Saguaro cactus, and it's interesting that neither he nor Poppy gets a surname here, although it could just be because there wasn't a good place to mention them.

Poppy is literally an eight year old child (as of our point in time in S/V's backstory) and objectively the strongest Elite Four member in any Pokémon game. Ever. According to some Youtube clickbait I watched, anyway. I'm not touching this with a ten foot speculation pole, beyond the idea that she might be picking up the aspects of Milium Orion's character that Ostia isn't.

The Conference is the culmination of a Trainer's Journey lying at the end of a Yearly Circuit. It occurs every June and lasts the entire month. All Trainers with Eight Badges in the Paldean League are eligible to take part in that year's Conference, though once they do so they'll have to challenge all Eight Gyms again to take part in another Conference. Most Trainers who do get all Eight Badges only participate in the Conference once. The ones who are Conference 'regulars' participate regularly for the fame and prestige either for their corporate sponsors or to garnish their careers for employment with the League.

According to Nemona, Saguero is a Conference first-timer with this being the third year of his Trainer's Journey. Surprisingly he isn't a Mesagoza graduate, usually half of the Trainers taking part in the Conference in a year are Academy Graduates.

Conference winners are given the privilege of undertaking the Champion Assessment. Where they'll have to fight the Elite Four and the current reigning Champion so that they can be considered a Champion Rank Trainer. The Conference winner has until the start of the next Circuit in August to issue their challenge, once they do they can't back out and have to fight the Elite Four until they either make it to the Champion and win or they lose.

All this is important exposition but I don't feel the need to really elaborate on it. Just bookmark it if you really do want to try and push Mary to compete with Nemona on the "one year Champion" scale. It's also pretty similar to the S/V championship mechanics, except for the Conference level being inserted to make things more anime-ish and tournament-y, as well as the annual time frame being added in. And also they actually televise the Elite 4 matches instead of it happening in a blank room. That was a bit disappointing frankly, although it made sense since everything is themed more around being a school exam than a sporting event there.

They were in one of the Grand Arenas in the League Headquarters, which overlooked Mesagoza from the cliff sides surrounding the Great Crater. The Crown Princess was watching from a pavilion overlooking the arena, as was Geeta and the rest of the Elite Four, who sat next to her. Also in attendance representing the Great Houses is Sophia de Cascaraffa, who according to Manuel, is his cousin who's older than him by an entire decade. He had a genuinely respectful tone when talking about her.
Mesagoza, it's worth noting, is in the foothills of the Great Crater of Paldea, and this indicates that League Headquarters is further up the mountainside to the north.

Sophia de Cascaraffa is just a name drop here, but she might be an equivalent to Jusis Albarea's older half-brother*, Rufus. A deeply important character who doesn't stop getting more plot relevant ever and I'm not going to get into it until we meet Sophia properly. Her name, of course, comes from the Greek for "Wisdom".

Rufus: "Crow? That guy thinks he's the Char Clone of this story? He doesn't even have a complicated relationship with a younger sibling! I will show you a fucking Char Clone."

*technically his cousin but no one knew that to start with. Like I said, no Albarea can remember which woman he's supposed to be having sex with.
"Oh, it's over. Saguaro's lost." Nemona suddenly says, mid battle, as she stretched her arms and leaned back onto the chair.
The rest of this is fairly basic Pokémon Battle commentary, although it's interesting to note Saguaro's gambit in controlling the terrain to his mons' advantage. We should keep a look out for moves that set up terrain, since both that and weather can be really relevant here.

"Mariana, are you still there? Please… don't tell me you kids actually go to bed on time. It's barely even 10 PM!" You hurriedly open the door to let Miss Leaf in. She walks in through the front, with Wiggly carrying her luggage behind her. She has, to your shock and concern, her left arm in a sling, she was wobbling slightly and her breath reeked of alcohol. She stumbles her way into the dorm, nearly falling before Elise catches her.
We continue the ToCS Class VII's tradition of being way more responsible than our instructor.

I wonder what she got up to in Rime City. It could have been the climax of Trails From Zero, though if that's the case the timeline got somewhat compressed, and I'd expect that to hit the news cycle sooner rather than later. Dammit Leaf, this was supposed to be the adorable interlude with whatever horrifying omnipotent superbeing the SSS picked up from the auction. Who'd you pick a fight with? Did you actually track down Surge? Get jumped by some Grunts hopped up on R? I don't need sleep, I need answers.

"I'll get her to bed, you finish up here, Mary. Missy, could you…?" The Mismagius grabs the keys off of you before guiding Elise, who was carrying Leaf on her back, up the stairs to your instructors room.
Kinda fortunate that the two protagonists are also the muscle girls. Also Elise is calling us Mary too, now.

Group 1: Elise, Theodora, Ostia and Mariana

Group 2: Manuel, Jacinto, Erika, Nemona, Atticus
Doesn't quite line up with ToCS's Field Study 1, but then again it's already a bit different since both teams are going to the same town. I guess if you generalize it to "Protagonist, Blonde Weirdo, Small Bean, Looks Like She Could Kill You But Actually A Sweetheard" group A matches...the important thing is that Jacinto and Manuel are someone else's problem, though. I do note that if you only count Starters, we've got a balanced team in Group A for any 4vX boss battles: A bulky Ghost/Steel-type, a fast Ghost/Dragon-type, a bulky Psychic/Steel-type, and a fast Fire...soon to be /Psychic-type. We've got good rapports with Elise and Ostia so we should be on the look out for opportunities to engage in teamwork between Roland and Rin or Roland and Argy/Poly.

[] West Cortondo Province: Grasslands dotted by hills and ridges overlooking the valley where Cortondo is located, most of the farmlands in this part of the province were only recently established. Part of a recent Land Reform program begun by Champion Geeta, to both distribute lots to landless sharecroppers and to increase Cortondo's agricultural productivity to support Paldea's skyrocketing population. These new arrivals often come into conflict with the traditional landholding nobility of the Province.

Across the Guadania River lies the Marida Forest, with Marida Lake at its center. While normally a popular tourist destination, increased aggression and hostility from Pokemon alongside persistent rumors and reports of poaching in the area have seen the visits to the idyllic lake plummet.
This is gonna be the fulcrum of the direct conflict between Noble and Reformist, albeit not necessarily where the bulk of the plot is happening. If there's one thing Reactionaries hate, it's land reform, and the lake is also the best place to publicly disrupt that. I'd also expect more Water types in these biomes, along with an assortment of Normal, Flying, Grass, and Bug common to both sides.

[] East Cortondo Province: The agricultural and economic heart of Cortondo. Vast farmlands managed by humans and Pokemon, occasionally broken up forests occupied by various Pokemon operating in mutually beneficial relationships with the locals. To its north lies the former Badajoz Province of pre-Great Collapse times. Built on its namesake plateau, it was fully abandoned by the time of Emperor Rodrigo's reunification of Paldea. But the centuries of human habitation, both its presence and its absence, have left its mark.
This is more likely to see parts of the plot that tie in to ancient weirdness and mysticism, though I'm sure we're going to fight the poachers or their backers either way. I'd expect some Rock and Fighting and maybe Steel types, as well as the Normal/Flying/Grass/Bug quartet.

I'm probably going to vote West but I'll be happy with either.

Yeah see, part of me wants to do this (or attempt to, more like) specifically because it's going to be a horrible train-wreck and I expect, more or less, an intervention scene by Ostia and Erika and I just kinda live for that sort of drama.

On the other hand, actually getting to that point is likely to be miserable, sad to read about, and likely to leave Mary a burnt-out shell of a person and I don't think I have that in me.

Idk. I'll have to think about it.

Personally, I know what pokemon I'd like for our team. A pokemon to completely block ground and ghost mons. To that end, I'd actually prefer getting a Starly, not only does it give us a flier, it is also just a generally good pokemon to have in general. Especially works if we're also going to get a Tinkaton; then our final team'd be (purely off of a four-mon core) a Dragapult, a Meowstic, a Staraptor, and a Tinkaton. Although, I'd happily get a Drifloon or Fletchling too. Basically, I'm very tempted to vote for West Cortondo to get more flying types, but East Cortondo has more mons I'd like to get in general.

Even if we don't get another mon (although we probably want one to take a bit of stress off Roland), this probably advances our mystical plotline more.

And I cannot blame you for this, because it is a fun scene and cool narrative.

I would like to grab a flying type, but I think it will be pretty easy to get one whenever we want if we befriend Jacinto, they seem to just throw themselves at him. The East side has access to seemingly rarer mons and a higher chance of steel, rock, and ground types at the mines. Pokémon that we might not get as many chances of encountering in Mezagoza.

it could also be maybe referencing the Tower of Hercules in A Coruña, Galicia. that tower is also associated with a medieval irish story where the soon-to-be irish saw ireland from the top of the tower and then went and conquered it from the tuatha de danann

And I cannot blame you for this, because it is a fun scene and cool narrative.
It is isn't it? But from a Quest/AP perspective it could very well end up being a lot of time, actions and updates spent on Mary essentially pushing herself to the edge and wearing herself down little by little while she shuns everyone away and chases Nemona's shadow, until the Big Break happens. No socials or fun stuff. Only training and fighting.

That just sounds depressing lol.

Our macro choices in the Nemona plotline are definitely gonna be "damage ourselves trying to keep up", "give up" or "justify using Nemona as a guiding star while maintaining our own identity" every single week. The real question is how long do we want to keep doing the first before moving to 2 or 3 and how dramatic we want that shift to be.

The East side has access to seemingly rarer mons and a higher chance of steel, rock, and ground types at the mines. Pokémon that we might not get as many chances of encountering in Mezagoza.
Also pokemon that might do better than average against bug and normal type pokemon. Mostly from resistances mind you, although a fighting type would handle normals and rock would handle bug on the super effective front.
